Might is right in Baskanville and without it...you're dead! How well The Lake knows that adage--and fears what it means. For years, life has been bittersweet for the hidden waterway. That's why, today, it wants to live--existence, though, is out of its hands.

Alone. Scared. Exhausted. Eighteen-year-old Amanda Colberg's quivering body is hiding under the sheets of her bed...but she's not safe! And the town of Baskanville never seemed so far from civilization to her, than on such nights--ones when her drunken father did not seem human...and was on his way back to her room.

Can an unconventional connection and love--between Amanda and The Lake--save her? Or, will this twisted "watery" romance become more than anyone can handle, in this godforsaken town?

Great job, the mystery is there and you captured the voice of the lake perfectly.

Fantastic job with this first chapter! I love how The Lake is alive. Your descriptions give it an extra creepy feel.

I thoroughly enjoyed this at the Wattpad Block Party, with its moody atmosphere. Casting the lake as the main character is a brilliant move. Dying to know why the lake is dying and why it so desperately needs Amanda. This is such a unique concept that I've never read before and I'm eager to read on.

Love the idea of something like a lake having a life force and a life force dependant on human life for survival. What you have here makes me want to read on. Excellent beginning.

This is a great start indeed. It just got the narrative flow to give that horror twist. I like how you managed descriptions here and dialogues. Perfectly balanced!
