Ella and Lottie have been best friends their whole lives but Ella's feelings have always been a little romantic towards Lottie. At a young age she is bullied for being gay when Jacob found out. Ella is worried that her feelings will ruin their relationship but soon things seem to grow between them. Ella tries to find out if Lottie is gay as Lottie catches feelings for her best friend. Bertie blackmails Lottie into helping him and they become friends as they find themselves in similar situations with crushes on their friends. Ella and Lottie grow apart as Lottie tries to help Bertie and Ella is plagued by Jacob. Finally meeting by circumstance at a party Ella and Lottie confide in each other. Ella steps outside of her comfort zone and goes to a party with Lottie. A game of truth or dare ends in disastrous results with Bertie running away and Ella having a meltdown after being outed for liking Lottie. At school the next day Ella is targeted and Megan the school counsellor suggests Ella has a few days off. After a long period of no response from Ella, Lottie decides to visit her and finds her broken and small from the hate she received Ella's mum tells Lottie that this has happened before when they weren't friends for a while. The next day Lottie confides her worry and feelings for Ella to her friend. Before Lottie leaves for the summer holidays Ella confesses her feelings but Lottie is too worried about Ella's mental health. Lottie deeply regrets this and misses Ella over the summer while Ella tries to get over Lottie by going out with her grandparents' neighbour Jaz. Ella and Jaz start going out on dates in Thailand while Lottie hangs out with her family in the UK. Jaz and Ella kiss but it causes Ella to realise that Jaz was never the one she wanted to kiss. Jaz is heart broken but Ella and Lottie reconnect and Lottie is rejoiced. Ella and Jaz become friends again and the summer is over. Ella and Lottie meet and they express their feelings and kiss.
