A mash-up of Frostpunk and the Long Dark. I loved Frostpunk, and already wrote an unpublished story for it. When I played the Long Dark, I expected to be bored, until I discovered 'unending night' plus 'aurora set to high frequency.' That definitely got me engaged: surrounded by the mundane, but global circumstances suddenly turned everything alien. This story, is effectively the original Frostpunk outline, with a more fleshed out beginning, and a bonkers apocalyptic event that goes beyond just freezing people to death. As per usual with my leads, this story follows someone whose experiences forced them to rethink they're understanding of people, and past experiences influence their every decision. This leads to conclusions that 'Joe Everyman' probably wouldn't understand. Disclaimer: This story starts off pretty dark, with the main character wanting to do the 'right' thing, only to wind up worse off for it. The beginning circumstances are inspired by a note found in the Long Dark, Seasonal Affective Disorder on steroids, and stories from Mount Everest. I do not personally suffer from the issues related to the plot's 'catalyst,' but I can certainly empathize with those who do. Hence... National Suicide Prevention Hotline 800-273-8255
