All the drivers and everyone that was normally on the grid during a driving weekend watched how the last scene of a movie was being shot. There was a movie coming about a girl who was making it to Formula One. They had shot everything that happened from when she was a kid until she would finally make it to F1. It would show the struggles about being a woman in such a mans world, but it was also filled with happy moments and excitement, and then she finally made it to F1.
Currently, they were filming the last scene, where the main character takes her first win. They were filming it on a real Formula One grid, to make it as real as possible. The cast members didn't drove everything by themself, but the last scene the top three did. They had been training for a long time to make the final scene as real as possible.
Everybody on the grid was eagerly waiting for the reveal of the main character. They knew everybody from the cast, except for the main character. Everything had been kept a secret until now.
You sat in your trailer and looked at yourself. Today was finally the day: you get to drive a Formula One car. All your life, you had been dreaming of this moment. You had worked so hard for it. It maybe didn't go as planned, but for a few minutes, you get to live your dream.
When you were very young, you started karting in your home town, Perth, Australia. That is where you also met your best friend, Daniel Ricciardo. He was your rival at the beginning, but you quickly became best friends. You shared laughs in between the karting races, but as soon as the helmets were on, it was everybody for themselves. You were scoring good points, and if you were a guy, you would be able to make it to Formula One, just as Daniel. But you were a girl, and you couldn't find any sponsors, so you had to stop. It cost too much money, and there was no way that you could make a carrier out of it. So you stopped and turned to acting. Currently, you were shooting a movie about a girl that tried to make it to F1, and she finally did. Today was the day that she would take her first win. She would be the first woman to win a Grand Prix. It was everything you had ever dream off.
You were quite nervous. You knew that everybody on the grid was watching. Today was media day for the Formula One drivers, so it was quite busy on set. But you would really want to see their reactions, especially Daniel. All he knew that you were shooting a secret project. You couldn't wait to see the look on his face when you would take your helmet off once you got out of the car.
There was a short knock on the door.
'Come in,' you said. Your opponents, Ben Hardy and Sam Claflin, walked into your room. In the movie, Ben was your teammate, and Sam was your rival. You could get along really well, so you spend a lot of time together. They also knew how much this meant to you.
'How are you feeling?' Ben asked and sat down on one of the chairs.
'I'm really excited and nervous. I know we're only going to drive 100 meters or so, but everything would be worth it,' you smiled. Even though it wasn't a real race, it would definitely feel like a win for you.
'Not to make you any more nervous, but I've seen everybody already waiting at the start, where we're going to finish,' Sam told you.
'It actually makes me more excited and nervous, yes, but I can't wait to see the look on their faces.'
You talked a little bit more to your cast members and then it was finally time to suit up and get in the cars. With your visor down, you made your way to the car that was already standing in place.
'You got this,' Ben smiled at you before you got in the car.
'Have fun boys,' you said and got in the car. Someone from the crew put on the seatbelts and then you waited for the sign of the direction.
'Have a good time. Enjoy the ride. Come out like he prepared. You're going to nail this,' you heard the director say.
'Thank you. It was lovely to work with you all. Let's finish this off on a high,' you said.
The direction gave you the signal. You drove away. You felt the wind against you, and you had the biggest smile on your face. This is what you had been dreaming of for so long. You had a little fight with Ben, and then you crossed the line, finishing P1.
You drove the car to the P1 board, Ben to P2 and Sam to P3. You got out of the car and raised your hands in the air. Everybody had his eyes on you, and even though it wasn't much, it really felt like you made it. You stood on the car and raised your hands again! Everybody cheered you on, even though they had no idea who was in the suit. Now it was finally time to take of your helmet. You could see Daniel standing front row, next to Nico Hülkenberg, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas; all guys who you raced. Ben and Sam already took off their helmets and were now looking at you. Slowly you took off your helmet, and with a big smile, you looked into the camera.
'We did it,' you smiled and then the scene was done.
The whole grid was silent. Everybody looked at you. You looked at Daniel, and you could see that he was in shock. You put your helmet on the car and zipped down the suit as it was getting quite hot.
Then suddenly you saw Daniel walking towards you.
'Y/N, What in the world...' he mumbled.
'Surprise,' you smiled.
Daniel wrapped his arms around you and lifted you in the air. 'You drove a bloody F1 car,' he said.
'I know. I did that. I just drove a Formula One car. Even though it wasn't how I wanted it to go, but I did it.'
'You did it, and I'm so proud of you,' Daniel said and kissed your cheek.
'Y/N! Holy crab!' you heard and looked up. Lewis Hamilton was walking towards you.
'Long time no see, Lewis,' you smiled and hugged him too.
'That was amazing! I had goosebumps all over my body.'
'Otherwise, I had them. My god, you really have the greatest job in the world.'
Lewis and Daniel both laughed. More people from the grid, but also from the crew came to talk to you and congratulate you on what you just did because it was a pretty big deal that you of all people were starring in a movie that was basically about your life, but not really.
'I am incredibly proud of you,' Daniel smiled and hugged you again.
