CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
× reliving the past ×

•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•

IT HAD BEEN OVER AN HOUR SINCE ELENA HAD UNDAGGERED ELIJAH AND THE MAN HAD STILL YET TO WAKE UP. Neither girl dared to speak a word in fear of the Salvatore's hearing them and wondering what they were doing. Cassandra knew it would take the man extra time to come back since he had been daggered for quite a bit. She didn't know if he would be angry at her or not, she wasn't there when he was daggered but he had to have known she had something to do with it. But she was still beyond furious with him so he had no room to take his frustration out on her. Plus, they had a bigger problem. Klaus.

A gasp makes both of them jump as they notice Elijah finally beginning to go back to his normal color, moving around ever so slightly. "Elijah?" Elena asks in shock as she kneels down next to him. Elijah looks around, disoriented and confused before his gaze lands on Elena, his whole body freezing at the sight.

"Katerina." Elijah gasps out as he stares eyes wide at the doppleganger in front of him. She shares a look with Cassandra who furrows her eyebrows for a second. She bends down, resting her hands on the man's shoulders trying to bring him back to reality but it didn't seem to be working.

"Cassandra, you are back." Elijah says as his eyes settle on the raven haired woman before him. A warm smile makes its way onto his face as he pulls the girl in for a hug. What he would give to be able to call her his or to kiss her in front of everyone is infinite. But with his brother in the picture, he knew that it would be a very slim chance. Cassandra had left for about two weeks, not giving the brothers a clear indication of where she was going but saying that it was a surprise and that there was someone who they needed to meet.

"I am indeed. Now where is your brother?" She asks as she glances around the room, not seeing her lover anywhere present.

"He is coming down soon." Elijah tells her, trying to keep his internal annoyance down. Cassandra nods slightly as she wanted to introduce the woman to both of them at the same time. "Where is this mystery girl you are so eager for us to meet?" He asks with a small smirk as he takes a step closer to her. Cassandra looks at him eagerly, excited to finally contribute something as it seemed that she was always just on the sidelines, watching the brothers.

"Right this way." Cassandra tells him as she grabs Elijah's arm and pulls his towards the girl she wanted him to meet. Elijah furrows his eyebrows a little bit, confused what the big deal was. That was until the woman turned around. A small gasp leaves his lips as his eyes roam over the girls face, memories running through his head of his former love. "Katerina, may I introduce to you, the Lord Elijah." She says as she glances between the two. Elijah was staring wide eyed at the woman standing in front of him. Never believing that she was really real. Katerina was gazing back at him, a stunned expression on her face as the man in front of her was truly magnificent.

"Forgive me, you just remind me of someone." Elijah apologizes as he snaps out of his gaze, not entirely sure if he wasn't dreaming. It didn't seem real to have the woman in front of him. Tatia's doppleganger but also the woman who his brother was going to sacrifice, unbeknownst to Cassandra. The girl knew of their past with Tatia but she only thinks they needed Katerina's blood for a spell. They didn't tell her about the girls certain death.

"Pleasure my lord." Katerina says with a small smile on her lips, her eyes roaming over the man obviously liking what she was seeing. Cassandra smirks a little bit, maybe Elijah would finally open up and allow some love into his life.

"The pleasures mine, Katerina."

"I-i can't. I can't breathe." He gasps out as he returns to reality. His eyes move to the two girls who were just watching him freak out. "What's happening to me?" Elijah asks as he lets out a pained noise making Cassandra flinch as a frown forms on her face. She didn't like seeing him in pain no matter what he had done.

"Elijah." She says softly as she bends down to him, her hands moving to either side of his face. For a split second, Elijah could feel the pain fade only for it to resurface but keeping his eyes locked on Cassandra helped a little bit. Elena was just watching the interaction, noticing how the girl was rubbing his cheek with her thumb, her forehead almost touching his. It surprised them both at the girls sudden affection but Cassandra only did it because she wanted to help him with pain.

"I cant--i can't be in this house." He admits as he keeps gasping to catch his breath which he couldn't. Cassandra furrows her eyebrows for a little minute, looking back at Elena. Elijah was gripping onto the girls shirt, pulling her closer. Cassandra allowed him as she was trying to think of why he would be feeling like this. She had seen Klaus undagger his siblings before and this has never happened.

"You're not invited in." Elena says as realization hits her. Elijah groans as he grips at his head. Cassandra remembers that Elena had signed a form, the house was technically hers. No vampire could enter without permission and since Elijah was already inside the house, he was suffocating.

"Get me out of here." Elijah tells them in a harsh voice as he starts to vamp speed, only to go into the wall. Cassandra snorts a little bit but Elena only sends her a look telling her it wasn't the time. The vampire rolls her eyes before making her way over Elijah and grabbing a hold of him. She vamp speeds them both out of the house before getting back inside. Elena rushed up the stairs and towards Cassandra who was watching Elijah as he coughed on the ground. He glances up at them before speeding towards them but being stopped by the invisible barrier. Elijah glares at both of them, banging on the hinges of the door.

"What happen--" He begins to ask as his hands stay on the doors, heavy breaths leaving his lips. If Cassandra wasn't so pissed off at him, that would have been a turn on because he looked hot at that moment but her anger trumped that.

"Shh." She cuts his off as she points to her ear and then upwards, indicating that the Salvatore brothers were still in the house. "I'll tell you. Not here." Elena promises as she couldn't risk Stefan and Damon overhearing them and then redaggering the man. "Can I trust you?" She asks him in a whisper as she glances at Cassandra who had been trying not to make eye contact with Elijah the entire time

"Can I trust you?" Elijah hisses back, a glare set on his face as he stares at the girls. No doubt he was angry but he got what he had deserved. Cassandra only rolls her eyes a little bit but a startled expression makes its way on her face when she notices Elena holding the dagger out to the man.

"Elena." She scolds as she didn't think it was the best idea to give Elijah the dagger. He takes it from the girl, looking at it in his hands for a moment. Elena only ignores her as Elijah stares back at them.

A couple minutes go by and they are now sitting in Elena's car, keeping their conversation more private and Elena wanted to ask more questions without the worry of Damon or Stefan listening in. "You look better." She tells him as the man was back to his original color but he still looked a little beaten up, his suit torn up a and charred a little bit, his hair a mess as his face was slightly pale from the lack of blood.

"Where did you get the dagger?" Elijah asks, his eyes landing on Cassandra a little bit suspiciously. It crossed his mind the second he knew they had a dagger that the girl had mentioned something to them. He never thought she would go to great lengths though, especially getting him daggered.

"I'll tell you everything but we have to work together Elijah, I need your word." Elena tells him as she pleads him with begging eyes. They needed him if they were going to stop Klaus but it would be hard to gain his trust since they did stab him in the back. Twice.

"Your ability to make demands is long past." Elijah grumbles at her as he accepts the blood bag Cassandra had handed to him. She would've drank it herself but she figured he needed it more.

"I have no demands. I'm offering you my help and in return I want yours." Elena tells him with a pleading expression on her face.

"Why should I even consider this." Elijah asks as his eyes flicker between the two girls, uncertain of the endgame here.

"If not for me then for Cassandra." Elena pipes up, her eyes moving to the girl who only shakes her head.

"That doesn't mean anything to him, Elena." She mumbles as she fiddles with her fingers. Elena frowns a little but she saw the love in Elijah's eyes when he looked at the girl.

"Then for the same reason you haven't killed me. You need my help to kill klaus and I need you." Elena tells him making Elijah consider actually going along with her. She was right. They need each other to be able to defeat his throat. Elena's phone suddenly rings making Cassandra glance at it, seeing Stefan's name. The brunette sighs before answering it, putting the phone to her ear. "Yes, I'm fine. He's right here." Elena answers him, her eyes flickering to Elijah for a moment. "No, Stefan. Elijah and I need some time alone." She tells him in scolding tone. "Elijah is a noble man, Stefan. He lives by a code of honour, I can trust him. He knows I would be incredibly stupid to cross him again and by removing the dagger I have proven myself." She explains to the man, trying to keep herself in check. Cassandra only tunes out of the conversation, feeling Elijah's eyes on her. She meets them for a split second before looking away. "Its my decision Stefan, let me do it." Elena says with a sigh before she hangs up the phone, trying to ignore the stares on her.

"He's here." Cassandra pipes up, watching Elijah's face as it turns to slight shock. His eyes move to the girl, fear in his eyes as he didn't want his brother getting inside her head. He would try and make her see that he wasnt a bad person, that he never meant to intentionally hurt her.

"Klaus is here." Elijah repeats, still trying to wrap his head around the idea that his brother had found the town.

"He's taken over Alaric's body." Elena explains as she glances at the man next to her.

"Of course he has. It's one of his favorite tricks." He says In an annoyed tone as he licks his bottom lip. Cassandra bites the inside of her cheek as she tries to keep her eyes trained on either Elena or something outside.

"What are his other tricks? What is he going to do next. You and Cassandra are the only two who know him." Elena says as she sighs a little bit, moving in her seat to face them better. Cassandra only glances at the floor of the car, not joining in on the conversation anymore.

"Yes we do." Elijah says with a slight sneer as his eyes go back to looking out the window.

"So where is this mysterious host I've heard so much about. Who has charmed his way into the hearts of my friend." Katerina asks them, nudging Cassandra slightly who pushes her back. The brunette laughs a little bit, loving to see the girl get embarrassed and blush over the man.

"Fashionably late." Cassandra says with a slight sigh as she wanted to see him again. She hated being away from him for so long.

"Here he is." Elijah gains the girls attention as they notice the man making his way through the crowd and towards them. Cassandra immediately smiles as she practically lights up at the sight of him.

"Look at you, all bright and shiny." Katerina mumbles to her with smirk, giggling a little. Cassandra immediately blushes, looking away from all of them.

"Be quiet, Kat." She snaps teasingly back before her eyes land back on her love who had stopped in front of them. Klaus was staring at katerina for a couple seconds, shocked that she had been found. But that was the only reason he was looking at her before his eyes move quickly to Cassandra who was standing next to the girl. He sends a smirk her way, winking at her. Cassandra rolls her eyes playfully.

"Katerina, may I introduce to you. The Lord Niklaus." Elijah says as he looks between them, taking this time to glance at Cassandra only for her to be staring at his brother.

"Nicklaus is the name my father gave me. Please, call me Klaus." He tells her as he brings her hand up to kiss it. Klaus's eyes stay on Cassandra though, the woman in front of him not catching his interest other than the fact he needed her to break his curse.

"He is quite charming as you said." Katerina tells Cassandra in a slightly muttered voice. Cassandra giggles a little bit as she meets Klaus's eyes, his eyebrows raised at her, a ghost of a smirk on his lips.

"You talk about me?" He asks as he moves towards his love. Cassandra follows his every move, her head nodding ever so slightly.

"Of course, darling." Cassandra tells him as he stops in front of her. She bites her bottom lip, feeling his breath hit her lips before giving her a sweet kiss. She returns it, allowing his arms to wrap around her.

"Oh, I have missed you." He tells her as the last two weeks had been brutal without her, now understanding why she hated him being away for so long.

"It was a while but I hope you like your gift." Cassandra says with a smile as she plants another kiss on his lips. Elijah had looked away at this point earning a curious expression from the doppleganger who was also averting her eyes from the couple but that was only because she didn't want to see people make out.

"You are extraordinary." He grumbles in her ear as his breath hits her neck. Cassandra giggles before feeling his lips leave a kiss on the crook of her neck. Klaus pulls away a little but only enough to be able to connect their lips once more. She kisses him back roughly before pulling back, her teeth dragging his bottom lip. Klaus moved his eyes down her body, lingering on all the parts that were for only him. But they stayed glued to her breasts which were prominently up in her new dress. A small smirk forms on her lips as she leans in again, her lips grazing his ear.

"I imagine you want to see what I have on underneath." Cassandra whispers in his ear earning a slight smirk as he grips her hips. "The answer is, absolutely nothing." She moans lowly making him clear his throat as he tries to recompose himself as they were still in a public setting.

"Nicklaus, our guest." Elijahs voice catches his attention as he internally groans, being forced to look away from his beautiful girlfriend to glance at his brother who standing rather uncomfortably next to Katerina who was only sending a smirk towards Cassandra.

"My apologies, my beautiful Cassandra just took my breath away." Klaus says as he squeezes her backside discreetly causing her to gasp a little bit, her body jumping as she tries to move from his grasp but he only tightens it.

"I do not blame you, my lord. She is an amazing woman." Katerina says as she sends a smile to the girl who blushes as she glances down at the ground. "She saved my life in fact." She adds making Cassandra's whole body freeze. Klaus and Elijah move their eyes to the girl, their whole body demeanor changing.

"Did she now?" Elijah asks with a raised eyebrow as his eyes are trained on the girl. Katerina glances between them, noticing that she had said something wrong.

"My village was attacked and I was gravely injured. She healed me. By taking me to my village doctor, of course." She tries to cover up for the girl, not knowing if the two men knew of vampires. Katerina gulps a little bit as the men give her tight smiles, their eyes still burning holes into Cassandra.

"Will you excuse us for just one moment?" Elijah asks the women who nods, not wanting to make the situation even worse by refusing.

"Oh, of course." Katerina tells him before giving Cassandra an apologetic look, making her way away from the trio. As soon as the woman was out of ear shot, Klaus grabs Cassandra's arm, pulling her closer.

"You healed her?" His voice was quite low as he licks his bottom lip. It hadn't been hard to put things together and he was angry that she had even showed the doppleganger her vampire side.

"She was hurt. What was I supposed to do, let her die?" Cassandra asks with a snappy tone. Klaus was taken back for a moment, even Elijah was surprised at the girls sudden change of attitude. Klaus clenches his jaw, glancing away from her to try and keep himself from doing something he'd regret. She had never used that tone with him and it made him proud she was sticking up for herself but the fact that it was to him made his blood boil.

"You could have compelled her." He tells her, a little bit of frustration in his voice. It made Cassandra frown as he rarely ever got angry at her. But she did get snappy with him so she understood.  Klaus wouldn't say he was angry though, he was just thinking of the possible scenarios that could happen with Katerina knowing about vampires.

"But she was not scared of me. She was intrigued. She only knows about me and she will not run because of it. She trusts me." She tries to get out so that the men don't compel her friend to forget. It also gave her someone else to actually talk to and not have to keep any secrets from. Klaus sighs a little but nods as he wouldn't do anything about it unless it caused problems.

"You have done excellent, my love." Klaus tells her as he turns his whole body to face her. Cassandra felt proud that she had found the doppleganger before anyone else. It gave her a sense of accomplishment. She felt the man's hands running down her back, his eyes gazing into her with pure admiration.

"Thank you." She says with a smile before feeling his lips on hers. Cassandra kisses back just as passionately before pulling away from the man, a slight blush on her lips. Klaus brushes her cheek with his hand for a second before turning to Elijah who was looking at anyone but them.

"Keep our guest company, Elijah. Cassandra and I have some business to attend to." He said with a smirk playing on his lips, his hand moving to guide her away from his brother. Klaus knew of Elijah's love for his girl and it made him beyond furious. But it did make it fun for him to relish Cassandra in front of him. The way she would look at him, even if Elijah was in the room, she payed no attention, her eyes would always stay on Klaus.

"Of course, brother." Elijah says with a tight smile, his eyes watching his brother and Cassandra make their way out of the main room. A sigh leaves his lips as his gaze then lands on Katerina who was waiting patiently for one of them to come back. She was quite magnificent but she didn't make his heart skip like Cassandra did. No one could replace the raven haired vampire. But she would never be his and he had to learn to accept that.

•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•

THEY MADE THEIR WAY TO THE LOCKWOOD MANSION, the two girls confused as to why they were even there in the first place. Cassandra only lets out a sigh as he follows behind the battered man as he knocks on the door. After a couple seconds, Carol Lockwood opens it, surprised to see the three standing on her porch. Elijah had been sneaking glances at the girl this entire time but Cassandra had been avoiding his gaze. She was only there to make sure Elena was safe and not getting herself into more trouble.

"Elijah? Elena? Cassandra? What are you doing here, what happened?" She asks in shock as she notices Elijah's appearance, her eyes going wide.

"We've had a bit of an incident, Carol. I'm hoping you could help." He tells her as he moves closer to her.

"Well, I'm on my way to a meeting so.." Carol starts to deny, not having to time to help them out even if they were In some sort of accident.

"It won't take a minute of your time." He compels her, blocking her from leaving. Carol stares at him for a moment before nodding.

"Of course, anything you need." Carol tells him with a smile as she glances at the other two girls as well.

"Thank you." Elijah says with a small smile. "Well, first things first, I'm gonna need a change of clothing." He tells the woman who continues to glance at the man's clothes.

"Well, we could try one of my husband's suits I haven't boxed them up yet." She suggests as she didn't quite have anything else other than her son's clothes but knew the man would not prefer those.

"Wonderful." Elijah tells her as they walk into the house. Once Carol is gone, Elena furrows her eyebrows.

"How did you know she wasnt on vervain?" She asks.

"Because I'm the one who got her off it. Right before you and your friends killed me. Twice." Elijah tells her with a blank expression on his face. Elena gulps a little bit, feeling bad for the man after what they did. "If you'll excuse me, I'll be down in a minute." He states before heading up the stairs in order to change.

"So, I'll assume that the Martin witches are no longer with us?" Elijah asks once he had finished upstairs. Cassandra was sitting on the couch in her own little world as she wondered if Klaus was near. If he was coming for her next. Maybe he didn't even want her until everything was over.

"No. I'm sorry." Elena tells him with a small frown, remembering both of their deaths clearly. Damon had killed Luca and Katherine killed the father.

"And Katerina? She would've been released from my compulsion when I died." Elijah points out, already knowing the answer to that question since there wasnt a way Katherine would've made it out of Mystic Falls.

"Klaus took her. We think that she may be dead." The doppleganger states, not knowing the true fate of Katherine just yet because no one knew where she was.

"I doubt that. Not Klaus's style. Death would be too easy after what she did." Elijah states as Elena takes a glance at Cassandra, knowing she would probably suffer the same fate soon if she didn't leave.

"I don't understand. You say that you want Klaus dead, but you still made Katherine pay for betraying him." Elena points out, not understanding why the man would punish Katherine for something that Klaus ultimately was responsible for.

"I have my own reasons for wanting Katerina to pay. There was a time, I would've done anything for klaus." Elijah tells the girl as his eyes move over to Cassandra for a second before looking out of the window.

"Where have you come from, Katerina?" Klaus asks as he stood with his brother and the two girls after Cassandra and him had finished with their business. No one was blind to it, it wasn't like they tried to hide it. Cassandra's hair was partially the way it was, her dress not being put on properly. Katerina was surprised the girl wasn't showing her breast every time she breathed since the corset was horribly tied. Klaus's shirt was unbuttoned a couple at the top and his hair was a bit tangled. Of course no one made any comment towards it though.

"I'm new to town, my lord." She tells him with a polite smile as she was practically attached to Cassandra's hip.

"Katerina's from Bulgaria." Elijah states as he looks at Katerina but Klaus could tell that the man was staring at Cassandra mostly, his eyes roaming over her a couple times. Klaus thought his girl was beyond beautiful, he just didn't like the fact that Elijah thought so as well.

"Her village is tiny but it has so many amazing things." Cassandra adds with a smile as she had her hand entertwined with Katerina's. It threw the two men off a little bit as she had only been gone for two week, they had questioned if she had maybe knew of the girls existence for longer than that. But she was here now which is all they cared about.

"Stravé Katerina." He says with a smirk playing on his lips making her raise her eyebrows a little bit.

"Very good." Katerina tells him with a smile as she glances at Cassandra, wanting to go off with her but that didn't go as planned.

"It was a little off." Cassandra points out with a teasing smile making Katerina let out a loud laugh. Klaus squints his eyes playfully at the girl, nudging her side.

"Do you mind brother. I would like to have a moment alone with her." Klaus states as he stares at his brother, raising an eyebrow expectantly. Cassandra steps forward to plant a soft kiss on his lips, knowing that they may seperated until the end of the night. Klaus noticed how Cassandra and Elijah acted around each other so he thought by being with Katerina, his love would start craving his affection more often and not hang around his brother so much. But by the look on her face, she wasn't the slightest bit worried about him and Katerina. She trusted him. It wasn't that he didn't trust her, it is that he didn't completely trust his brother.

"No, not at all. Happy birthday, brother." Elijah tells him with small smile before the two walk off, leaving the other two standing next to each other. Cassandra fixes her dress which had folded a little at the bottom before glancing up at Elijah and gaining his attention.

"Elijah, I will come with you. Perhaps go see the butterflies?" She asks him with a sweet smile on her face. Cassandra didn't see anything wrong with Klaus going off with Katerina because she knew he only had eyes for her. Plus, she could instantly tell that the doppleganger had a thing for Elijah. The man instantly lights up again as he offers a hand to the girl before guiding her outside, Klaus's eyes on them the whole time before heading out with Katerina who he didn't even want to be with. It was a mutual feeling too as Katerina liked the man for her friend but would much rather be with his brother or Cassandra.

"Yes, Klaus is my brother." He answers her question before she even asked it. Elena was sat in shock, not knowing what to do with the Information she had just found out. If Elijah and Klaus were brothers, that changes the whole perspective of him wanted the man who was after her dead.

"I heard that. I'm still processing." Elena says blankly as she stares at nothing in particular. Cassandra really wanted to just throw some water in her face or something but decided against it.

"I'm a little behind on the times but I think the term you're searching for is omg." Elijah tells her before taking a sip of his drink. Elena squints her eyes a little bit at him as Cassandra inwardly groans.

"Shut up." She tells him as she kicks her feet together. Elijah only raises an eyebrow at her for a second.  "Don't forget to tell her about your other siblings too." Cassandra points out making Elena's jaw drop. Why hadn't they known about this before? This would've helped them a lot but it didn't seem like anyone knew much about the originals other than Cassandra apparently.

"There's a whole family of originals?" She asks in shock as her eyes move between the pair before ultimately landing on Cassandra. "How many did you get with?" Elena adds with a slight smirk, teasing the girl who only gives her a hard glare. Now was not the time to make that joke. "I'm kidding!" She says after seeing the deadly look Cassandra was sending her way.

"My father was a wealthy land owner in a village in eastern europe. Our mother bore seven children." Elijah explains as he tries to wipe the amused smile off of his face at what Elena had said prior. Although their was history with both him and Klaus, Kol and Rebekah were only best friends with the girl. Kol and Cassandra were just disgusted if anyone mistook them for being together.

"So, your parents were human." Elena says with a frown as she figured out that they had to die in order to turn into vampire. But if they were all originals, how did they first turn? Did someone kill them or was it their choice?

"Our whole family was. Our origin as vampires is a very long story Elena. Just know, were the oldest vampires in the world." Elijah tells her as he puts his hands inside of his pockets. Elena eyes move over to Cassandra who was swishing some alcohol around in a glass.

"And have you met all of the original family." She questions, wanting to know just how long they have known each other and if she knew any more of their family secrets.

"No. Never met mommy or daddy, or two of the siblings." She states as she takes a sip of her drink, her eyes staring back at Elena. Finn was already in the box by the time she had met Klaus and Henrik had died before the family had become vampires.  "They were long gone by the time I met Klaus." Cassandra explains, standing up from her seat as she paces around the room, glancing at the different art on the wall.

"We are the original family and from us, all vampires were created." Elijah says as he leans against one of the walls, admiring Cassandra for a moment.

"Right, but Klaus is your brother and you want him dead?" Elena asks, raising an eyebrow as she didn't quite believe that Elijah would want to kill his own brother. Stefan and Damon has said that plenty of times but have never actually done it.

"I need some air. I'm still feeling a tad... Dead." He tells them before making his way over to the door. Elena sighs but follows along, practically pulling Cassandra as she was being hesitant about following. The doppleganger had walked ahead of the pair, leaving Cassandra to avoid Elijah's glaring eyes.

"I need to speak with you privately." He harshly whispers to her as he was trying to get the girl to look at him which he was failing to do.

"Elena will leave soon enough." She tells him as she tries to pick up her pace but he only grabs her wrist in order to keep her near him. Cassandra groans as she really didn't feel like talking to him alone anytime soon.

"You let them kill me." Elijah says with a sharp glare on his face, needing to know why she would let them do that to him

"You came back." She snaps at him before ripping her arm from his grasp and catching up with Elena who was glancing at the scenery around her.

"As you have seen nothing can kill an original, not sun, not fire, not even a werewolf bite. Only from the wood of one tree. A tree my family made sure burned to the ground." Elijah keeps going with the story as he realized that Cassandra wasn't going to be easy to talk to or explain to her why he had to lie to her.

"That's where the white ash for the dagger comes from." Elena says in realization as her eyebrows raise. Cassandra downs her drink before pouring another one, earning a look from Elijah which she ultimately ignores.

"Yes. The witches won't allow anything truly immortal to walk the earth. Every creature needs to have a weakness in order to maintain the balance." He tells her as he grabs the glass from Cassandra, earning a glare from the girl who only grabs the bottle. She gives him a rude stare, holding up her middle finger before taking a drink of the large bottle.

"So if the sun can't kill an original then why is Klaus so obsessed with breaking the sun and the moon curse?" Elena didn't get why they would need to break the curse if they could already walk in the sun and do everything that a normal vampire couldn't.

"Elena. The curse of the sun and the moon... It's all so biblical sounding, don't you think?" He questions her with an amused expression, even Cassandra was trying to keep herself from laughing.

"What's so funny?" Elena asks with furrowed eyebrows as she didn't know why he was finding this all so amusing. Elijah only smirks at her, loving the fact that she too believed the curse.

"Look, a Roman parchment." Elijah says as he walks over to his brother and Cassandra who were sitting on a chair. Or rather, Klaus was sitting on the chair and Cassandra was on his lap. She was wearing a simple night gown as she refused to wear a corset so late at night. He hands the parchment to his brother who looks at it for a moment, trying to remember it.

"I remember etching this scroll. I was quite blistered from drinks." Klaus states with a slight smirk as he rubs Cassandra's side with his thumb. The girl who only glances between the brothers, not having ever seen it before.

"What scroll is it?" She questions, moving herself to get situated a little bit on his lap. She wanted to be able to look at both of the men as she spoke.

"It is the sun and the moon curse, love." He tells her as his eyes meet hers but she was just staring back at him with confusion laced on her face. Cassandra wasnt brought in on the fact of the fake curse but that was only because it wasn't relevant.

"The what?" She asks as she scrunched her nose up a little bit. Klaus chuckles as he places a kiss on her jawline before his eyes move back to the scroll.

"It's not real. It was something Elijah and I made up to get the things together to break my curse." Klaus explains to her as his arm wraps tighter around her. Cassandra nods her head, fiddling with his fingers as that was something she did when she got anxious or nervous.

"Are you almost ready?" She questions him hit she knew that all he had to do was find Katerina, someone who she knew the whereabout of.

"I still need to find the doppleganger." Klaus points out as it was the last step of his sacrifice, it had been almost impossible to find her though or if she even existed yet.

"Leave that up to me." Cassandra says proudly as it was only about two more months before she could reveal Katerina to them. She wanted the girl to have another month to recover before bringing her to England.

"Love, maybe it's best to just leave this to Elijah and I." He tells her as he shares a look with his brother. That was one thing they had always agreed on, Cassandra's safety.

"But I wish to help." She urges as she looks at him expectantly. Klaus grips her hip, staring into her eyes as he shakes his head at her.

"I know you do, love. But Elijah and I can't be killed while in search for her." Klaus states as he sighs a little, not wanting to get into an argument with her about this, mainly because they rarely ever fought.

"That does not mean that I can't still look." She argues with him, a pout on her lips as she had already found the doppleganger she just was waiting for Katerina to give birth to her child before involving her in the curse. Blood loss would hurt the baby and Cassandra didn't know how much Klaus needed for the curse.

"I said no." Klaus tells her in a stern voice, not wanting to get angry at her but he grew quite irritated by her nagging. Cassandra frowns, glancing down at her hands before going to move off of him but he only grips her waist in order to stop her. "I can't have anything happen to you, my love. I'm just protecting you." He assured her, leaving a small kiss underneath her ear. Cassandra sighs for a moment before allowing Klaus to pull her closer again. She was completely under his spell, doing exactly what he said. Elijah hated this, seeing his brother control the poor girl. She didn't even see how toxic it really was.

"I'm sorry." She apologizes with a frown before giving a couple kisses on his lips and neck. Klaus smirks at her before allowing her to rest her head in the crook of his neck. Elijah fights the urge to roll his eyes, she shouldn't have been the one apologizing.

"Your finest work remains your Aztec drawings." He says, deciding against fighting with his brother. Cassandra could feel her face shift a couple times. Veins forming and then leaving her face. It was something that happened when she was really hungry or she just couldn't control her urges. Klaus seemed to notice this, giving her a slight nod.

"Not the African carvings? Because I was quite proud of those." Klaus announces as he tilts his head a little for her. Cassandra smiles to herself before allowing her fangs to pierce his neck. Elijah is silent for a moment as he just watched the girl indulge in his brother before clearing his throat.

"The Aztec, who can resist a shaman." Elijah says with a smirk as he looks at his brother who let's out a loud laugh, vibrating Cassandra's body.

"Oh, yes." He says as he glances back at it before tapping Cassandra's thigh twice to signal that she had enough. She pulled away from him, licking the blood away from her lips. Usually she would use her tongue to clean up the blood on his neck but decided to use her fingers instead since Elijah was in the room.

"I don't understand so Klaus drew the Aztec sketches about the curse?" Elena asks as it was the only thing she really got from his explanation.

"Roman scrolls. African tribal etchings... And any other culture or continent we felt like planning it in." Elijah tells her as he folds his hands together.

"But why?" She questions, not understanding the point of making a fake scroll, what would It gain them.

"Easiest way to find out the existence of the doppleganger or to get your hands on some long lost moonstone is to have every single member of  two warring species on the lookout." Elijah explains as he leans against the bridge ledge. Elena furrows her eyebrows as she looks between the pair who were the only ones who seemed to know the true story.

"So it's not Aztec at all?" Elena asks as she moves closer to the man, trying to piece together what he was trying to tell her.

"The curse of the sun and the moon, is fake. It doesn't exist." Elijah shrugs his shoulders.

"What?" Elena asks as her eyes widen at the news she was just told.

"Klaus and I faked the sun and the moon curse aging back a thousand years." Elijah states, indicating that Cassandra wasn't around at the time of the making of the curse.

"But if there's no curse.." Elena trails off, wondering why everyone was after her if the sun and the moon curse was fake. Why was it so important.

"There is a curse. Just not that one. The real ones much worse. It's a curse placed on Klaus." Elijah tells the girl as he glances down at the ground for a moment.

"What are you talking about?" Elena asks with furrowed eyebrows, looking at Cassandra for more answers but she only sighs, glancing down at her fingers to avoid the girls gaze. Elijah was more than capable of telling the story so she stayed quiet.

"Klaus has been trying to break it for the last thousand years and you are his only hope." Elijah adds as he shares a look with Cassandra who he was surprised even wanted to look at him. They both knew what Klaus's real curse was and it terrified them because if he did end up breaking it and they didn't succeed in killing him, he would be the more powerful person on the planet.

"Well, what is this curse?" The doppleganger questions as she was still confused on why they would lie about the original curse in the first place. What was so bad about it?

"Your phone will not stop it's excessive buzzing, answer it please." Elijah tells her as he takes her phone out of his pocket, an annoyed expression on his face. Elena sighs before grabbing it and moving away a little bit to answer it.

"Klaus went after Jenna, I have to go to her." She says when she moved back to the pair earning a shocked look from Cassandra. Why would Klaus even want Jenna?

"I'm afraid that wasn't apart of today's arrangement." Elijah tells her with a shake of his head, trying to figure out why his brother would even want to go after Elena's aunt. Maybe leverage? Boredom? It was hard to tell with him.

"She's my family Elijah, I have to." Elena pleads as she needed to be the one to explain to Jenna what was happening. The woman was innocent, she didn't need to be dragged into this mess.

"Just let her go. She'll come back." Cassandra tells the man who glances at her for a moment. She hadn't talked much and when she did, it was only when she needed to. A small frown forms on his face before he covers it to look back at Elena.

"You have my word." Elena says as she stares at the original who only scoffs a little bit, his eyes boring down into her.

"That doesn't mean anything to me until you live up to it." Elijah states before allowing Elena to leave in order to be with Jenna. There was a moment of silence between the pair before Elijah turns to Cassandra to say something only for her to beat him to it.

"I'm sorry for letting them kill you. But do you blame me?" She questions as she looks at the man who is taken aback for a moment. It hurt Elijah that she just willingly let them kill him but she had a good reason but that doesn't mean that it didn't pain him any less.

"I know I hurt you--" Elijah begins to apologize as he takes a step toward her but she only holds her hand out to stop him. He takes a deep breath, closing his eyes for a moment.

"Which you promised never to do." Cassandra points out as she shakes her head, licking her bottom lip. He couldn't possibly think she would forgive him so easily. "Your word doesn't mean much either." She tells him in a slightly harsh tone as she crosses her arms against her chest.

"Cassandra.." He says slowly as he stares at her sincerely, feeling horrible for all the girl had to go through.

"No." She says sternly as she backs away from him making him stop trying to advance towards her. "Elena will be back but I'm leaving. I deserve better than you and than Klaus." She tells him, her voice shaking as she couldn't believe she was actually working up the nerve to end her, whatever the past five hundred years, was. "I deserve someone who will not break my trust and hurt me." Cassandra adds as a single tear falls down her cheek. Elijah stares at her with pain in his eyes. She internally has a battle with herself before placing a soft kiss on his lips. Elijah kisses back eagerly, knowing this might be the last time she does that, or he sees her as a matter of fact. They kiss for a few more seconds, putting all their emotions and love into it. Because Cassandra did still love him. She loved Klaus too. She just knew she deserved better for herself and she also felt like it wasn't fair to them. They were brothers. No matter what Elijah says, deep down he didn't want Klaus dead. He was his brother after all. And whenever Elijah makes that decision, Cassandra doesn't want to stand in the way of them reconciling their family. She had to make a decision and this was the best one. Cassandra pulls away from the man, feeling his tears on her lips. "Goodbye, Elijah." She whispers almost inaudible as she backs away from the man. Elijah only stared at her with hurt and guilt laced in his eyes. He had lost her and it was entirely his fault. There was no one to blame but himself. He couldn't even blame his brother because it was his choice to lie to her all this time. So, he just watched as the girl left his sight, leaving him eternally alone awaiting the doppleganger's return. Unbeknownst to both of them, that another man also had his eyes on Cassandra at that very moment.

a couple flashbacks in this chapter! Klaus was never into Katherine, she only reminded him of tatia. The only reason he was being so charming, even with Cassandra around was so he could make the girl want to stay because of the sacrifice and also to make sure Cassandra felt a little jealous and tried to get his attention more. That way she wouldn't try to get Elijah's. didn't really work thooo haha. anyways comment what you thought of this chapter! fave/follow/check out my other stories if you want!
