DC's Upcoming Movies Announced

Find out what Warner Bros. will release after 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.' Yes, Wonder Woman is one of the movies!
The comic book movie genre has become massive and it shows no signs of slowing down. There's been a ton of rumors about what the DC Cinematic Universe has in store for us, but now we have the official word on what's coming out. After Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in 2016, DC/Warner Bros. is going to follow-up with a Suicide Squad movie! Don't worry, Wonder Woman isn't far behind and there's plenty more after that! Feast your eyes on the upcoming slate.
2016: Suicide Squad (directed by David Ayer)
2017: Wonder Woman (starring Gal Gadot)
2017: Justice League Part One (directed by Zack Snyder)
2018 The Flash (starring Ezra Miller)
2018: Aquaman (starring Jason Momoa)
2019: Shazam
2019: Justice League Part Two (directed by Zack Snyder)
2020: Cyborg (starring Ray Fisher)
2020: Green Lantern
Only time will tell if these movies will be worth the wait, but this is still totally exciting news. It's great to see Diana will be the first "new" cinematic Justice League character to get a solo film and they'll then focus on the other members. The press release also noted that "Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema will release a slate of at least 10 movies-as well as stand-alone Batman and Superman films-from 2016 through 2020." At least 10 and stand-alone Batman and Superman films, so it looks like the above list may not be their complete schedule. So, what do you think about this news? Damn! comic book movies are going to make age faster than i want to b/c the anticipation of these movies releasing yearly is going make to time go by so fast.

I think it's funny that Cyborg is getting his own film, but still...still... doesn't have his own series.
Suicide Squad before Wonder Woman? Seriously? I love the Suicide Squad. Well, the pre-"new" 52 Suicide Squad. That said, if you're doing a Wonder Woman film, maybe show the character the respect that she is rightfully owed, and release her film before the one featuring a cast of, largely, obscure third stringers.

pleasepleaseplease just merge the new 52 trench and others storyline for the aquaman movie, and make mera extremely prominent, and have her already be his wife when introduced, not like in the throne of atlantis animated film where they have yet to meet.

Why erza miller as flash. Can't they just adapt the tv universe and the movie universe cause now it means that arrow and all the other tv shows are in another universe. Unless it's wally west...

I would be real happy if that were the case. I like how WB/DC is now trendsetting--forcing Marvel/Disney to up their game with female and minority characters.

I think this is fantastic news. Glad to see all the characters I wanted to get a solo movie are actually getting one. The only movie not on this list or indicated to be happening (like the Batman and Superman solos) is the Justice League Dark movie that Del Toro has been attached to direct for a while. I'm a Del Toro fanboy as well as a big fan of DC's Dark stuff so that would be even more anticipated for me than all of these movies if it was confirmed to actually be happening. Maybe they'll announce it one day. Only other minor complaint I have would be the idea of Suicide Squad being the first movie to follow up the universe building of Batman/Superman. Still, as a big DC guy, this is great news. News I have been waiting a long time to see.

Besides Suicide Squad and Green Lantern, all of these have leads attached. Perhaps those films do as well, but WB just hasn't released info about those leads yet? I hope we learn who will play GL soon. I'm still rooting for Chadwick Boseman.

More like a couple of movies will come out and not pull in that Marvel Money that WB is so desperate for after losing their yearly Harry Potter billions, and the people signing checks will sweep it all under the rug. I think DC is currently killing it with TV and animation, but I just don't see these grand cinematic plans turning out the way they hope.

This is an interesting slate. I'm curious to see which green lantern and flash they use. I wonder if there will be two barry allens or potentially two hal jordans (if he is introduced on CW). I'm skeptical about Ezra Miller but am glad the flash is getting his own movie. I'm also pretty excited for the suicide squad movie.

Great news! It still amazes me all of these movies are being planned and happening. I just hope the general public doesn't get superhero fatigue with all of these DC and Marvel movies. The bottom can fallout a whole lot faster than the time it takes to build and get there.

How have DC managed to not make the massive cash cow of a new Batman film. Also Justice League should just be called 1 and 2 because calling it Parts 1 & 2 make it seem like a cash grab that they split the original movie in two. Dissapointed that since Cyborg will get his own film that presumably means that Martian Manhunter won't be a member of the JL. Picky negativity aside it's good that they're finally cranking into gear

Some of those movies are never going to happen. They couldn't even finish up Batman VS Supes in time to release it this year,and they are going to start releasing two movies a year like Marvel? they can't even get out one movie.

I'm gonna be 33 years old when we get another Green Lantern movie but at least they have a Wonder Woman film on the way.

It's going to cause a lot of confusion to casual viewers when they see there's a Flash TV show and another character playing him on the big screen. Not the best move DC even if that Flash could be Wally or someone else.

I have to say it. i'm not impressed.
Cyborg I have no interest in. To me he is really boring, and doesn't belong with the league.
Suicide Squad i have no interest in either UNLESS it's the Arrow Verse squad, which I doubt it is.
I hate that they are using flash but not using Grant Gustin. I have loved his performance as Barry.
I like the idea of a GL movie, but not having to wait until 2020.
Aquaman...eh. Not as boring as Cyborg. I'll see it once. Same with Shazam
Wonder Woman and the JL movies have potential.
For me, Marvel wins the movies hands down and I don't see that changing. I'll stick with tv for my DC stuff.

Very unusual and ambitious really it matters who is directing and writing these movies.
Not liking the idea of a Flash solo movie while the show is doing good. Did not expect Grant Gustin in Justice League but giving Flash a show and movie seems like overexposure. Too much of the same characters and too many movies sounds risky for audiences. It's strange now there are two speedsters from Marvel and DC played by four actors.

I'm extremely excited about this. Especially at a new Green Lantern though i wonder if they'll go back to Hal or introduce us to John or Kyle. They might do something crazy and have all three Earth based Lanterns together in the movie

Why not using Grant Gustin ? a matter of shedule? It would be interesting to have connections between small and big screens.
And practically only stand alone movies. Hope it won't mean 6 origin story type movies. Fed up with this. Also, where's Del Toro Dark Universe.

Wow they actually gonna attempt a Cyborg movie? I figured his origin would be in Dawn of Justice. Ezra Miller is an odd choice for Flash but I guess we will see. Suicide Squad seems a bit out of place too. I figured maybe down the road after they introduce some villains but for being one of the first movies out of the gate seems odd. I hope when they do Green Lantern we get John Stewart this time around and I hope he makes an appearance at least in the Justice League films.

I guess this is the part where I'm supposed to be impressed with DC making their own Cinematic Universe. Only thing is I'm far from a fan of the depressing and dark excuse for the DCCU. Shame Marvel is already touting a more successful model from years earlier and that a certain introduction film to the DCCU polarised critics and fans alike. I don't see why Justice League needs to be split into 2 films though, why not just get it done in one? It's fallen prey to the current splitting syndrome in big blockbusters.

SOMEBODY PINCH ME. I AM FREAKING OUT AT THIS.
1st - surprised that SS is the other 2016 release... we all seemed to think that would've been Shazam, but David Ayer is confirmed as director! Woo!
2nd- Confirmation on Wonder Woman... YES.
3rd - The Flash solo movie. Seriously, someone call me an ambulance. I like the casting of Erza so far... Other than his hair color though, he looks the part. I checked his histroy, and he's been in some good 'indie' movies. An unknown actor is fine for me :) Gives him a chance to shine. (Also, props to WB for keeping his casting under wraps.)
4th - Aquaman solo. Nothing more needs to be said.
5th - Cyborg? Hell, I'm in.
6th - Green Lantern reboot. Definitely deserves it.
Seriously, this is the best news I've heard in a long time. I'm gonna make a wild guess and say that Flash & Green Lantern won't appear until Justice League 2, but I'm ok with that.

It feels weird having Suicide Squad so soon, and people already know my feelings on Captain Marvel in film (regardless I am trying to be positive), other then that looks like a solid list. Flash casting is a bit odd, but if the guy is a good actor then I'm fine with the casting. Pumped for Wonder Woman, I really hope they use her New 52 series as inspiration. If the Metal Men are involved, that'll just be fantastic... Yeah I was super surprised to see SS so quickly. I think the actor playing Flash is pretty good, but I usually don't have a problem with unknowns. Who to direct Wonder Woman though? Ultimate fanboy moment ensuing. Peter Jackson to direct a mythology based Wonder Woman.

A cyborg solo movie isn't interesting enough unless they intend introduce the teen titans shortly after.
Plus Warner bros is wasting their time entertaining kids with LEGO movies. Who cares about LEGOs. I slept half way through the LEGO movie anyway.
If it's gonna take 3 to 5 years to make a flash or green lantern movie then they better put a little thought into it. With a flash movie, u need team ups every time because a guy who can run fast isn't interesting enough. That's why the TV show is popular because the flash is mixing it up with firestorm and vibe

Personnely he is my favourite black superhero but I can see how people would find Cyborg from the show annoying. In the comics he is just there, same with Aquaman although he most likely gets some development in his own series.

Erza Miller is a strange choice, but he's actually a really good actor so i'll give him the benefit of the doubt. However, I don't see why we need a suicide squad movie at all.

Anyone else, feel that maybe Flash is getting too much exposure, there is a tv show and a movie with 2 different actors...

I can't say I'm shocked about this because a very similar lineup was leaked a month ago, just the dates of some of the films were switched and we didn't see Ezra Miller as Flash.
Overall, I'm pretty excited but I really hope that the films making up the DCCU have tones that fit the characters, not have the characters try and fit the tone (like what happened in Meh of Steel).

Ezra Miller does not look like Flash. Suicide Squad is a bit bizarre. I really hope this amount of movies does not mean the end of the golden age of superhero movies, might be too much in a tight space of time.

I think people aren't putting enough faith in movie-going audiences when it comes to the flash. Sure Grant Gustin might be the TV flash, but I don't think it's going to confuse anyone, after all we have two different Quicksilvers for X Men and Avengers and no one's confused in that regard.

That actually sounds cool....I still think it's too early though. The way I understand, and hope it is, everything happening between Justice League Part 1 and Justice League Part 2 is part of huge, epic, singular storyline. So, all 5 of those movies will play off of each other from 2017-2019, coming to their conclusion in JL: P2. IMO, it would make more sense to have Suicide Squad in this mix, and not directly after BvS.....what Super humans do they have to hunt yet?

Ezra Miller is a good actor and an interesting choice for Flash. I'd rather see him portraying Barry next to the likes of Cavill and Affleck over Grant Gustin.
Perhaps the more intriguing aspect is that Flash would seemingly be much younger than the rest of the Justice League save Cyborg I'd imagine.

@buttersdaman000: Frankly I don't think they have a clear plan of what they want to do with these properties and they just making announcements at this point to keep people interested, they should wait to see what's gonna happen with BvS. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these projects were dropped down the line.

Great list but where is Justice League Dark? I'm hoping it's on of the 10 "Not Announced" movies. Why is Flash getting a movie if he already has a tv show? Do they have no faith that the tv show will last that long? Surely a Flash/Green Arrow movie would of worked better seeing as there will be crossover in their respective tv shows?

I could dig it. Especially since Professor Hamilton is now dead (or trapped in the Phantom Zone) at the end of MOS Steel took over as Supes' tech support and ally after Hamilton's fall from grace in the comics, so this could be a quasi-accurate introduction for him in the DCCU.
Idris Elba, Morris Chestnut, or perhaps Boris Kodjoe would do well in the role (as well as provide some beefcake for the ladies who also buy movie tickets!;)

The Justice League has Batman as the brains of their operation, they don't need an ex-jock turned cyber geek for technical support. I mean have u seen the recent incarnations of Teen Titans? Not that impressive. They have no Starfire or Cyborg to shake things up. Plus the Teen Titans seem to be falling into parallel dimensions or other worldly realms these days so Cyborg would be perfect to have on the team since he's the supposed authority on dimensional barriers and what not.

Nice, Ezra is an odd pick for Flash. Maybe he's just one of the stars and not The Flash himself? Very odd choice imo.

Its a good thing that Batman is working hard to have Lex removed because Superman is too busy getting laid by Wonder Woman to care about what Lex is doing with the AMAZO virus. Plus where is Cyborg during this debacle? If Cyborg was too blind to see that he was being controlled by his alter ego "The Grid" then what possible help could he provide to the Justice League now?

John Stewart's predecessor is Hal Jordan. Or in the other version, The Guardians of the Universe just chose him, which means he has no predecessor storyline.
John Stewart's ex-wife, Katma Tui was the one who tried to kick the dictator Sinestro out of the planet Korugar, but eventually killed by the Star Sapphire, Carol Ferris.
John Stewart once blew an entire planet accidently, and that event created his greatest enemy, Fatality, the one who is loved by him now. She was a lackey of the Sinestro, and member of the Star Sapphire, but eventually became a non-lantern villain again.
...Seriously, John "may be" the main GL of the JL film, but Hal "must be" the main GL of the GL film. If WB/DC want an "another Star Trek" or "an another GotG" film, they could use John. But if they want a "GREEN LANTERN film", they must use Hal.

It's a pity that they couldn't contract somebody else other than Ezra Miller to be the Flash. I guess the film project leader is running on a low budget and couldn't hire A-list actors to play the Flash like Chris Pine or Ryan Reynolds.

Its only taken 9 years to reboot Green Lantern solo movie, dang.. I'm not as excited as everyone else for some reason, but I'm looking forward to seeing how a Justice League movie is pulled off.

A Cyborg movie! That is definitely the one I am most excited for. Shame it's six years away. A lot could happen between then and now to make that project a no go. Optomistic about Suicide Squad, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman as well.

That is not my point. My point is, "If they're going to use John, they have to abandon the storyline of the Abin Sur (which is quite huge), or the Sinestro thing."
Most of the Antman storylines dosen't connected to Hank Pym, so they can use Scott Lang in the film. But most of the Green Lantern storylines are connected to Hal Jordan, so if they abandon Hal, the GL film will become just a ordinary space opera film, or John Stewart will become a "Another version of Hal Jordan". (just like Bruce Timm did to Kyle Rayner)

Superhero films are adaptations; it's what they do with movies like Ant-Man, GotG, Avengers, etc. There's no reason they can't tell a story about Sinestro or Atrocitus waging War on the GLs just because John is the center of the film. They can use the Manhunters. They can use the Blackest Night prophecy. They can use Black Hand. The Dark Knight films drew liberally from The Dark Knight Returns, but Bruce was young, there was no Carrie Kelly, there were not mutants, etc. They also drew from Dark Victory, but there was no Dick Grayson.
I doubt we will see the GL reboot covering the same territory as the 2011 film.

Because If they use this story for John, then THAT John will become NOT MY JOHN, JUST A COPY OF HAL. But if they just introduce Sinestro without Hal, Sinestro will become a normal villian like Malekith of Thor 2.
I want this in the new GL film. Not just this, sooooooooooo many things and storys that GL have. And in most of the GL story, Hal was in there. If they uses that stories for John, without Hal, that would be so akward. If they abandon those stories, that's just dumb.
I love John, and I would love to see him in the future film, but "Abandon Hal and change his story for John!" is just the distruction of the character, I think.

And for people discussing which lantern to use....Why not all four? But come on, the mythology alone dictates it has to be Jordan as the main. IDC if you WANT John, I'm just saying that won't happen. I WANT Guy to be the main but that won't happen. Hal is the one it always focuses on. Personally I'd rather it focus on the whole corps, not just one human lantern. Get all human lanterns and the aliens we love, from Killowog to Salaak

Justice League Part 1 & Part 2? I wonder what's going to happen in those movies. Cool that they have a bunch of movies lined up. I'm excited for most of them. I hope the movies are good. As long as the movie has a nice balance of an interesting story and action I should be fine. I just hope Green Lantern is better than the other Green lantern movie. I hope they have movies where the heroes team-up in a movie like Flash/Green Lantern or a Trinity Movie. Now I think about it, Wonder Woman is going to be in Batman v Superman, I'm wondering how big her role in the movie is going to be. Or if it's just a cameo.

Heck several of the DC movies we have coming out in the future should have come much sooner in my opinion. That's what I don't like. I'm not surprised not to see Justice League Dark or Sandman on this list. I doubt Sandman was going to be a part of the DCCU anyway, and Del Toro has a habit of taking on a million projects that he develops for a while before working on something else. I seriously doubt a Del Toro JLD movie is going to happen any time soon.
Overall, I'm happy with this list. I really like David Ayer films and I think he's a great choice for a Suicide Squad movie in a Man of Steel style universe. It's good that a Wonder Woman movie is going to happen finally, along with an Aquaman movie. I'm kind of curious who they will end up picking for their Green Lantern. On one hand, the last Green Lantern movie kind of poisoned the well with regards to Hal Jordan, but they seem to be wanting their movies to match up at least a little with the New 52, so I'm betting he'll still be the main character. Either way, it'll be him or John.
I think Ezra Miller will be solid as the Flash; he's been great in other stuff. Those worried about people not being able to separate the CW Flash from the movie Flash aren't giving audiences anywhere near enough credit at all. It's interesting that they formally announced Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa but still haven't actually announced that Dwayne Johnson is doing the Shazam movie. You'd think they'd want at least a few bigger names on the list.
I'm also surprised that they only announced that they were going to go Batman and Superman movies at some point in the future. Then again, BvS and both Justice League movies are probably going to be the Batman and Superman (and hopefully Wonder Woman) show anyway, so it's not like the characters will be languishing unused. Plus, it gives them more time to try to convince Affleck to direct a Batman film.

Cool announcements all will be for-naught if they turn out to be terrible movies though, or these odd casting choices turn out to suck. I'm just happy DC/WB are at least taking some chances with their characters, curious as to how many of these are taking place in the same world, you'd think all the JL characters would be. Though with the Shazam quote I'm not so sure about SS.
Also two movies a year, where have I seen that before :P they aren't even trying to hide the fact that they're trying to catch up with Marvel.

Not do dure about Ezra Miller getting cast as Flash. I'll jut have to wait and see before I start jumping to conclusions.
But OMFG GREEN LANTERN REBOOT! Bummed that it comes in 2020 but at least we're getting it done! Hopefully we get Hal again but I wouldn't mind if it was centered around any of the other big 3 earth lanterns.

I think he's an okay choice. I think he'll be a young, comedic speedster who is friends with the Ray Fisher Cyborg. I see him getting a haircut, but I don't see him getting a dye-job. I don't think he would look good with blonde hair.

Ezra Miller doesn't scream Flash to me but I bet he'll do fine. I haven't hated a DC superhero casting in a movie since Batman and Robin. I didn't hate Ryan Reynolds or Amy Adams so I have some faith. I would've loved Chris Pine.

The reason I wrote I hope you are kidding is because a word as outrageous is a word that should be used a but something more serious than comics. 6 years will go faster than you think. Especially as you get older.

@captain13: I support this. Sinestro could possibly be brought in later for people who seriously want him.
