Betty POV:
I stood opposite my two friends as I told them the problem I was facing.
Betty: I don't want him to be mad at me. I told Fangs and Toni.
They're both Ghoulies. The Ghoulies are one of two gangs on the South Side.
Fangs: I don't think there's any way you can get him to necessarily approve. He said.
Toni: yeah, I wouldn't have high hopes that he'll be impressed. She said.
Betty: he's going to hate me. I groaned.
Malachai: who's going to hate you Princesa? He asked me.
Malachai is the king of the Serpents and my best friend.
We've known each other since we were four. He's my everything. He's done so much for me, stuff I will never be able to repay him for.
Betty: can we talk alone? I asked him and he nodded his head.
We linked arms as we walked away from the party behind us.
Malachai: is everything okay? He asked as I let go of him.
Betty: no. I sighed, looking away from him.
What Malachai thinks is so important to me.
Malachai: what's going on Betts? You're really worrying me. He said as he walked over to me.
Betty: I'm going on a date tomorrow night. I said.
I have a date with the Serpents king, Sweet Pea Connor.
They're rival gangs and hate each other.
I hate that I've caught feelings for Sweet Pea because I know how unhappy this will make Malachai. And I never want to hurt him.
Malachai: okay. He chuckled.
Malachai: I don't see why you're worried over that. You're allowed to date Betty. He said with amusement.
Betty: it's with Sweet Pea. I said and I watched as his smile instantly faded.
Tears welled up in my eyes. I don't want this to affect our friendship.
Malachai: woah. He said.
Betty: I'm sorry. I said as I turned to face him.
Malachai: how long have you been talking to him? He asked, not looking at me.
Betty: the first time we talked was only yesterday Kai. You have to believe me. I said as my voice broke.
He took a few steps away from me, still not looking in my direction.
Betty: Malachai. I cried out.
He let out an angry grunt as he turned to face me.
He walked up to me and wrapped his arms around me. I let out a shaky breath as I wrapped my arms around him, holding him tight.
Malachai: don't cry Princesa. He whispered softly.
Betty: I don't want you to be mad at me. I said into his shoulder.
He rubbed my back gently, making me feel safe with him.
Malachai: I'm not mad at you. He said.
Betty: you are. I said.
Malachai: I don't know what I am, but I'm not mad. He said.
Betty: promise? I sniffled.
Malachai: I promise. He said as he gave me a soft smile.
We had both unwrapped our arms from each other and stood in a moment of silence.
Malachai: come on, let's go home. He said and I nodded my head.
He held out his hand and I took it. He pulled me closer towards him and he gave me a small smile.
We said a quick goodbye to some of our friends and we headed home.

We arrived home and Malachai went straight to the fridge, pulling out a beer and cracking it open.
I sat on the couch as he soon joined me.
Malachai: you're being very quiet. He commented as he took a sip of his beer.
Betty: I still don't know how you feel. I said.
Malachai: I wish it wasn't a Serpent, especially Sweet Pea, but there's nothing either of us can do about that. He said.
Malachi: I'm not mad at you, I never will be. He said.
Betty: I'm not doing this to hurt you. I said.
Malachai: I know you wouldn't do something like that. He said and I nodded my head.
We spoke a few brief words. I then decided to call it a night.

I had just finished getting ready for my date with Sweet Pea and I was excited. But I didn't want to have to leave my room. I couldn't face Malachai.
I know he isn't mad at me, but I don't want to push it.
I know he's not okay with it deep down.
It started getting late and I needed to leave.
I stepped out of my room and into the lounge. Malachai's eyes landed on me and he scanned my body.
Malachai: you look really beautiful Betty. He said making me blush.
Betty: thank you Kai, it means a lot. I said and he gave me a soft smile.
Betty: I'll see you soon. I said as I walked out of our apartment.
I've lived with Malachai for the past year.
My dad was taken away to prison and my mum joined a cult, where she decided to sell our house. The house I lived in and grew up in.
When Malachai found out about my situation, he didn't hesitate to invite me to live with him. I felt guilty as I didn't want to be a burden on him, but he promised I wouldn't be.
I soon arrived at Pops and saw Sweet Pea already there waiting for me.
When he saw me, he barely even gave me a smile.
I took a seat opposite him and smiled.
Betty: you look really nice. I said.
I've never been on a date before so I was a little nervous.
Sweet Pea: you look nice too. He said.

From the beginning of the date, I could tell that something was just not right.
He didn't seem that sincere or interested in what I had to say.
It's when we got to the last ten or so minutes of the date that I knew this was just a trap.
Sweet Pea: so tell me about Malachai. He said as he took a sip of his milkshake.
Betty: I'm sure you didn't come to talk about Malachai. I said with a fake laugh.
The only reason Sweet Pea asked me out was to get information on Malachai and the Ghoulies. I can't believe I was so stupid to think he liked me.
Sweet Pea: I don't mind. What's he planning next? He chuckled, trying to act all chill.
Betty: I don't really know anything, he doesn't tell me. I said.
That was a lie, he tells me everything.
I watched as a frustrated look grew on his face. He was not impressed.
Betty: it's getting late, we should probably call it a night. I said.
I wanted to leave and forget this stupid date ever happened.
Sweet Pea: yeah. He said with a grunt.
He put some money on the table and just left. He didn't even say goodbye.
God he's such a jerk, and I'm so stupid.
The past week or so, we had exchanged some flirty looks. He was the first guy to have ever shown interest in me and I jumped at the opportunity, to have a guy in my life who loves me.
I now clearly see how beyond stupid and desperate I look and feel.
I should never have gone on a date with a Serpent, and this is definitely the first and last time I ever will.
I arrived home, and walked up the stairs to our apartment feeling really defeated. I just feel so stupid.
I unlocked the door and saw that Malachi was sitting on the couch, doing whatever on his phone.
Malachai: hey. He said with a smile, putting down his phone.
Betty: hey, I'm going to bed. I said, wanting to save myself from reliving this terrible night.
Malachai: oh come on Betts, tell me how it went? He said.
Betty: I'm sure you're not interested. I said.
Malachai: of course I am Princesa. Just because I don't like him doesn't mean I don't care about you. Now come sit, tell me everything. He said.
I wish he was angry at me or something, anything for me not to have to tell him.
I took a seat next to Malachai and let out a sigh.
Malachai: was it not good? He asked.
Betty: terrible Kai. I said. He gave me a soft sympathetic look.
Betty: you wanna get drunk? I asked.
If I have to reveal to him the details of this shit date, I'm doing it drunk.
Malachai: that bad? He said as he raised an eyebrow.
Betty: yep. I said as I stood up and pulled him along with me.
I took us down to the bar and got Toni to make us six shots.
We took a seat at the back as we waited for Toni to bring them to us.
Malachai: did he touch you? He asked angrily.
Betty: no Kai, I'm fine. I said and he nodded his head.
Toni soon brought us our shots and we both took the first shot, then the second.
Malachai: sure you want that third shot? You know you get sad and clingy. He warned me.
Betty: oh trust me, I'm already sad and clingy. I said as I picked up the third shot and took it.
Malachai: to clingy and sad Betty. He smirked as he took the shot.
Malachai POV:
It have been about five minutes since we had both taken our last shots and she was sitting in my lap, cuddling into my chest.
She's such a light weight.
Malachai: you wanna tell me what happened now? I asked as I raised an eyebrow.
Betty: he only wanted to see me so that I could give him information on you and the Ghoulies. She sighed.
I looked to her and felt so much guilt consume me.
Malachai: Betty I am so sorry. I said.
I can't believe that the reason she is so hurt right now, it has partly to do with me.
Betty: not your fault. I should have realised he didn't think I was pretty enough. She said.
Malachai: Princesa, you don't know how beautiful you are. I said.
Tonight was the night I realised I loved her.
I mean I always knew that she was really important to me and that she would always have a special place in my heart and life. But tonight, seeing how dressed up she got for him, how excited she was. It made me jealous.
I want Betty to be my girlfriend, the official Princesa of the Ghoulies.
Betty: I'm not. I'm ugly. She said, breaking my heart.
Malachai: let's talk in the apartment. I said.
Betty: carry me. She said as she rested her head on my shoulder.
I couldn't help the small smile that formed on my face.
I picked her up and carefully carried her up the stairs and into our apartment.
I gently placed her down on the couch and took a seat beside her. She instantly moved herself so that she was sitting in my lap, straddling me.
Malachai: you comfortable? I asked as I raised an eyebrow. She nodded her head.
Betty: never let me go on a date again. She said as she faced me.
Malachai: I'll never let you go on a date with a Serpent again. I told her.
The only thing Serpents are good for is target practice and drama.
Betty: why does no one love me? She asked sadly as she looked into my eyes.
Malachai: I love you, you know that. I told her softly.
Betty: you love me, but you don't love love love love love me. She said.
Malachai: and how do you know that? I said as I raised an eyebrow.
Betty: fuck me. She said.
Malachai: no. I told her.
Betty: see, you don't love me anymore than a friend does. She sighed.
Malachai: Betty, you think because I won't fuck you when you're drunk I don't love you? Maybe I have too much respect to ever take advantage of you and I love you way too much to ruin the possibly of us being together by starting our relationship with sex. I said.
Betty: now you're mad at me. She sobbed out.
And here comes sad Betty.
Malachai: Princesa I'm not mad at you. I said softly as I wrapped my arms around her back.
Betty: promise? She said threw tears.
Malachai: I promise, calm down. I said softly and gently.
Once she calmed down, she wiped her cheeks and look backed to me.
Betty: will you marry me Kai Kai? She asked. I smiled
I have two options here. I say yes and I keep her happy. I mean she won't remember any of this by tomorrow morning or the second choice, I say no. Where I know she will once again burst into tears.
Malachai: yes. I said and she smiled, hugging me tight.
I decided that we should call it a night. Betty needed rest and that would put an end to her drunken questions.
Malachai: Princesa, time for bed. I told her.
Betty: I wanna sleep with you tonight. She told me.
Malachai: not tonight. I said softly.
Betty: but I want to! She said as she huffed.
Malachai: some other night. I told her softly.
Betty: fine, I get it. She sighed as she stood up.
Betty: you don't love me. She said as she walked off.
I decided not to say anything, there was no point.
I heard as she closed her bedroom door behind her so I knew that she had made it safely.
I headed into my room and got into bed, not bothering to change.
Tonight has been a crazy night for the both of us.
I really want to talk to her tomorrow, about us and what the possibly of that is.

I woke up the next morning and changed into some new clothes. I then headed into the kitchen and made breakfast for Betty and I.
As I was half way done, I woke Betty up so she could get changed and eat breakfast with me.
After I took out the toast, I grabbed some painkillers for her head and a glass of water.
Once breakfast was done and set out on the table, Betty walked in.
Her hair was messy and she was still in the same dress from last night.
Malachai: how's your head? I asked as i took a seat opposite her.
Betty: horrible. She mumbled.
She reached for the painkiller and took a sip of her water.
Betty: did I do anything stupid last night? She asked as she looked up to me
Malachi: god, what didn't you do last night? She let out a groan as I chuckled.
Malachai: let's start from the beginning.
Malachai: you were sad, so the normal. When I said I loved you, you wanted me to prove that by fucking you. I instantly saw her close her eyes and groan. I smirked.
Malachai: then when I said no, you bursted into tears. Thank you asked me to marry you. I said.
Betty: well what did you say? She asked.
Malachai: to stop you from crying again, I said yes. I said.
Betty: so in other words, we're engaged. She said making us both laugh.
We finished up breakfast and sat on the couch together. We had the tv on but we weren't really focusing on it.
Malachai: I like you a lot Betty. I said as I had my arm wrapped around her.
Betty: I like you too Kai. The date last night was a big mistake and made me realise, it should have been you. She said as she looked into my eyes.
Malachai: well I guess you're now my official Princesa. I said causing us both to smile.
