Nick was standing in the parking lot of Tucker's General Store, when the three police cars and an ambulance pulled on the parking lot.
The paramedics were the first out of their vehicles and Nick immediately walked to them.
"I am Dr. Nick Rose."
The first paramedic shook his hand.
"I am Geoff Carter and this is my partner, Lionel Alexander."
"What have we got?" Lionel asked.
"We have a possible heart attack victim inside. A fifty-five year old male. He was struck by another man and immediately complained of chest pains. When I arrived, his skin was pale and clammy. His breathing shallow.
I administered him a nitroglycerine tablet and monitored his vitals. He seems to be stable now.
I have contacted Western Memorial and informed them that we will be bringing him in."
"Okay," Geoff nodded.
"Let's go and take a look."
As Nick and the two paramedics entered the store, they went straight to Henry.
While they attended to Henry; Harry, Ken and Ron escorted the two men out to where four police officers were waiting.
Before they had put their weapons away, the men had zip-tied the hands of the assailants. They led them down the front stairs of the store.
One of the police officers stepped forward.
"I am Officer Fredricks."
Harry shook the officers hand.
"Dese men came into our store and dey assaulted my brudder, 'enry. The doctor bes wit 'im now.
He tinks me brudder mite 'ave ad a 'eart attack, when dis big fella 'ere slapped 'e across da face."
"I didn't slap anyone. We went into the store to get some smokes and water and the old man in there gave us a hard time."
"Dat bes a lie," Harriette snapped, as she walked from inside the store.
"Ise saw 'e 'it my Uncle 'arry."
"You lying bitch," the big man snapped back at her.
"You weren't even there, when I hit ..."
His voice trailed off.
"Fuck," he swore, realizing he had just incriminated himself.
Harriette smirked, as she walked past him.
"Who bes da bitch now," she laughed.
The big man grabbed at Harriette and got hold of the hood of her hoodie, pulling her backwards.
"I should ..."
Two of the police officers quickly subdued the man and got him on his knees.
"Are you okay ma'am?"
Harriette looked at the police officer.
"Yea, just 'urt me throat a little."
She unzipped the hoodie and gently rubbed her throat.
"Get them both in the car," the officer told the others.
As two of the officers put the two men, still zip-tied, into the back seat of one of the squad cars, the officer went to Harriette.
"Are you sure you are okay? We could have the paramedics take a look at you."
Harriette shook her head.
"No. Ise bes okay."
Moments later, one of the paramedics, Lionel, came out of the store.
"Can I get some help with the gurney?"
"ise can walks," Henry said weakly, as he appeared in the doorway of the store, being helped by Nick and the other paramedic.
"Get the gurney ready, Lionel."
Lionel quickly pulled the gurney from the ambulance and set it up at the bottom of the stairs. Henry was slowly helped down the stairs and the gurney was lowered, so that Henry could lay on it.
As one paramedic strapped him in, the officer that had been with Harriette approached Geoff.
"Can you take a look at this lady. One of the assailants grabbed her hoodie and I think it may have hurt her throat."
Geoff quickly took a look at Harriette and asked her a few questions.
"I think she will be okay. There is some redness there, where the zipper dug into the skin a little, but I don't think any damage was done."
He looked at Harriette.
"If you do develop any issues, be sure to see your doctor."
Nick walked up to Harriette.
"I will keep a watch on her."
The officer took a card from his pocket.
"My name is Officer Bradley. If you have any issues or questions, you can call me."
Harriette blushed slightly and took the card.
"Thank youse."
Lionel came to Nick.
"We are ready to go. I have Henry all settled in the back."
"I will ride with you," Nick informed them.
"Ise will follows," Harriette quickly added.
She looked at her mother and father.
"Ise will calls youse, as soon as wes gets in Corner Brook
"I will ride to Corner Brook with Henry," Nick informed Harry and Mable.
"Ise will follow," Harriette offered.
She hugged her parents.
"Ise will call as soon as wes gits dere and lets youse knows 'ow Uncle 'enry bes."
Nick held Harry and Mabel's hand.
"Henry will be fine. We will get this whole thing under control and have him back home, as good as new."
"We will still need statements from the three of you," Officer Bradley informed Nick, referring to him, Harriette and Henry.
"You can see me and Harriette at the hospital later tonight," Nick responded.
"As for Henry, I want to be sure that he is stabilized and out of danger before putting the stress of reliving this incident on him."
Officer Bradley nodded.
"I understand. I will see you two at the hospital later tonight."
Harriette blushed slightly, again and hurried off to her car to follow the ambulance, that had just left the parking lot.
Officer Bradley looked at the other officers.
"We will need to get statements from the others, before we can wrap this up."
"Wraps up what?" Mabel questioned.
"Whats about da other men dat bes at da Pub and at Bill and Matty's place."
"There are more?"
Harry looked toward Bill's house and saw Bill, Michael and Ryan going in through the front door.
"Dere bes two men at Bill's place," Harry informed Officer Bradley.
He pointed to the lighthouse.
"Dat bes dere place over dere and jest down da road a mite, der bes Dove's Pub and ifin Ise not mistaken, dere bes tree men dere.
Bradley spoke to the other officers.
"Temple, you and Reynolds stay here and start compiling the statements and keep an eye on those two.
Webster, you and Pittman hurry across the street and find out what is going on over there.
Fredricks, you come with me."
Officer Bradley looked at Harry.
"How far is the Pub."
"Jest follow da road. Big blue building on da rite. Big sign. Youse can't miss it."
As Officers Webster and Pittman hurried across the road, Bradley and Fredricks got into a squad car and headed off to the Pub.
Officer Temple returned from the squad car with a folder.
"Okay, who wants to go first?"
~~~
Bill opened the front door of the house and rushed inside.
"Matty?" he yelled.
Matty ran from the bar and hugged Bill.
"You okay?"
Matty nodded.
"A little shook up, but I'll be okay."
The two men were standing together, near the rocking chair. They were taken aback by Bill's sudden appearance in the house, but quickly gained their senses.
"So you're the guy we are suppose to bring to the boss," the smaller guy remarked.
"I don't think so," Bill laughed.
The two men started toward Bill, but stopped dead in their tracks when they saw Michael walk in.
"Neither do I," Michael glared.
Nanny Dove appeared in her rocking chair.
"Best watch out fer da big one dere, Willam. 'e tinks 'e sees ghosts."
The bigger man, Eddie, turned around, slowly and looked at Nanny Dove.
She stared at him, for a moment, then suddenly smiled and jumped from her chair, yelling, "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO."
The man screamed, pushed aside his partner and ran for the front door. He kept looking over his shoulder, as he neared Michael.
"I don't thinks so," Michael laughed.
He raised his arm and when Eddie looked toward the door, all he saw was Michael's huge fist. Michael gave him a quick jab to the face and he fell hard to the floor, moaning and groaning.
The smaller man held up his hands.
"Enough of this. This is fucking insanity. You won't get no trouble from me. I didn't sign up for this bullshit."
He pointed at the man on the floor, still moaning.
"I don't know what the fuck his problem is. He has to be on some kind of drugs or something. Keeps seeing some old lady."
Matty smiled.
"Oh. You mean my Nanny Dove?"
"Who?"
Matty pointed toward the rocking chair.
"My late Nanny Dove."
The man slowly turned and there, large as life, in her rocking chair was Nanny Dove.
"Where, where did she come from?"
"Young man. Ifin Ise didn't knows any better, I'd swear dat youse never seen a ghost before."
The man stood in silence staring at the chair.
He tried to talk, but no words came out. He just stood there, mouth open, pointing at the rocking chair.
Nanny Dove laughed.
"Dis one bes ready fer da funny farm, Ise tinks."
Officer Webster quickly entered the house, standing just inside the doorway, pistol drawn. "RCMP. Nobody move."
Officer Pittman followed behind him and stood a few feet to his left, his pistol drawn as well.
"There bes no needs fer dat, Benny," Michael laughed, as he slapped Officer Webster playfully on the back.
Officer Webster stared at Michael for a moment, then recognition set in.
"I'll be damned."
He laughed and holstered his pistol.
"Michael Simpson. Its been a long time my friend."
Michael nodded, as he shook hands with the officer.
"Been nar on ten year, I guess, Benny."
Officer Pittman also holstered his pistol.
"So. What do we have here?"
Michael laughed, pointing to the man on the floor.
"Well, dat one came runnin' at me likes a madman and Ise were feared fer me life, so Ise put up me 'and to protect myself and 'e jest ran into it."
Officer Webster started laughing.
"You? You feared for your life, Michael? Seriously?"
Michael smirked.
"A little."
He showed Officer Webster his hand.
"See, Ise gots a scratch on me 'and. 'is face must 'ave scathed I."
"And what about that guy?" Officer Pittman wondered, pointing to the man, still pointing at the rocking chair.
"Is he okay?"
Bill walked to the officer.
"He just started freaking out and claiming that he saw an old lady sitting in the rocking chair."
"An old lady?"
Officer Pittman pointed at the rocking chair.
"In that chair?"
He looked at Bill.
"And you are?"
Bill shook his hand.
"Bill Williams. This is my house and this lovely lady is my wife, Matty."
Matty shook both Officer's hand.
"They both claimed that they saw my grandmother. Only thing is, poor Nanny Dove has been dead for years."
Nanny Dove blew a kiss to Matty and disappeared, leaving the smaller man, still pointing at the chair.
He turned slowly.
"She blew me a kiss."
Officer Webster nodded.
"The invisible woman in the rocking chair blew you a kiss?"
The man nodded and walked to Officer Webster, holding out his hands.
"Please arrest me and get me out of this house."
Officer Webster took his handcuffs and put them on the man.
"My pleasure."
Officer Pittman, with Michael's help, got the second man to his feet and handcuffed him as well.
"I'll take these two across the street and get them in a car."
"You want me to come?" Officer Webster asked.
"Ryan and Ise will walks across wit dem," Michael offered.
"Ise don't tink dey will try and run."
"Just get me the fuck out of here," the smaller man pleaded.
The five men left.
Officer Webster turned his attention back to Bill and Matty.
"Are you both okay?"
Matty nodded.
"I am fine. The big guy grabbed me, but that was pretty much it."
"I'm okay," Bill added.
He looked at Matty.
"You sure you are okay?"
"I'm fine, my love."
She kissed Bill quickly.
Officer Webster looked at the two.
"So, you two feel up to making a statement."
Matty nodded.
"Sure. Would you like some coffee?"
"I wouldn't want to put you through any effort."
"No effort," Matty laughed, looking at Bill.
"Honey? Will you make some coffee?"
Bill laughed.
"Sure."
"I have to go and get my paperwork," Officer Webster told them.
"Won't be long."
By the time Bill returned with the coffee, Officer Webster had returned and he and Matty were sitting in the new living room.
Bill passed him a coffee.
"Black okay?"
"Perfect, thank you. Okay, shall we get started?"
At the same time, Officers Fredricks and Bradley had Hirst and his two accomplices in custody and they were taking statements from Lindsay and Carl.
