You looked at your brother Daniel Riccardo, who was getting ready for his race.
'Be safe okay? I'm going to be with McLaren in the garage today.'
'You know I'm always safe. I'll be fine. Enjoy the race.'
'You too.' You smiled at your brother and quickly gave him a kiss on the cheek.
You quickly made your way to McLaren. You wanted to see your boyfriend, Lando Norris, before the race too. You wanted to wish him good luck. Even though you have said it to him this morning, you still wanted to say it to him now. You weren't planning on staying at McLaren during the race, when you said goodbye to Lando this morning. But something just drew you over there. It was a feeling, but you just wanted to be with Lando today.
When you walked into the McLaren garage, Lando was just getting into his car.
'Good luck and be safe,' you smiled at Lando.
'I didn't know you were coming!'
Jon handed you a set of headphones, so you could hear everything going on during the race.
'I changed my mind. Now go kick some ass.'
Lando smiled at you and quickly waved before he went off.
Lando was starting P6 today. Daniel was starting P11. There were some problems during the qualification, but you had all confidence in him that he was going to do well, the both off them would do well.
It was fun being on the road with your brother and your boyfriend. You loved being at the races. Ever since Daniel joint F1, you where there too. In the beginning not so much as now. Now you're hanging out with Lando, George and Alex most of the time. You try to divide your time the best you can. You want to spend time with your brother of course, but also with Lando. It's hard sometime, but you all make the best of it.
The race started and it was not a bad start. Lando quickly passed Perez and Albon. Daniel passed Kvyat. And that went on for a few laps. You had your eyes on your friends and brother. You heard Lando humming. You smiled and focussed on the race. It was to early to say this, but if Lando was continuing like this, he could make it to the podium. He was now at P4, but they were on lap 10, so a lot could happen.
They were halfway through the race. Lando was trying to make it past Verstappen, but he was defending his spot. Daniel had some technical difficulties, so he was out of the race. You had texted him that he did a good job and bad things could happen. He hadn't responded yet. You now had all your focus on Lando. You were feeling you heart beating so much faster no that he was going for P2. It was so exciting to see. Lando tried to go past Verstappen in turn 3. He passed Verstappen on the outside and then Verstappen bummed him. Lando was set off against the wall. You felt your eyes widen.
'Lando, do you copy me?' you hear Andreas say.
You looked at these screen, not taking you eyes off the car. There was no response from Lando.
'Lando, do you hear me?' you heard Andreas say again.
You looked over at him in worry. This was not a good sign. You looked back at the screen and saw how someone walked over to the car.
'Red flag!' you hear someone yell through the garage.
'How is he doing?' You looked up and saw Daniel running into the garage. It was normally not allowed, but now no one said a thing about it. Daniel walked over to you and grabbed your hand.
You wanted to say so many things, but the lump in your throat was to big. There was no way that a word was coming out of your mouth right now.
'Lando, I'm asking you once again, do you hear me? Please say something or just a hum,' Andreas said. You could hear the anxiety in his voice. This was bad. You saw medics arriving at the car. You felt like your heart was beating off your chest. But at the same time you felt it breaking. With every second that passed by without a response from Lando, you felt your heart breaking a little more.
All the F1 cars got pulled into the garage. No one had any idea what was going on with Lando. You heard people around you, but it passed you. All you could do is stare at the screen and look how they pulled your boyfriend out of the car. Your heart felt so heavy. You could cry, scream that you wanted to know how he was doing, but you were numb. You could only stare at the screen and see how his body was put on a stretcher. Medics stood beside him.
'Is he responsive?' you heard Jon ask. It was silent for a moment.
'Copy that,' he said.
'How is he doing?' George came running into the pit. Now you knew that it was bad, really bad.
'Y/N, I think you need to sit down for a minute. You look a little pale,' you heard Daniel say. You looked up at him. You didn't want to sit down, but once again the words didn't come.
'Is she in shock?' you heard Daniel ask someone. You were gently pushed into a chair. Daniel kneeled before you. You looked him in the eye.
'I need you to say something Y/N. They're brining him here right now, so you can join him, but I need to know if you can go with him.'
You swallowed, trying to make the lump go away. 'How bad?' you croaked out.
Daniel didn't say anything. He just looked at your hands, which he grabbed again. He then looked back up at you.
'They don't know.'
'I don't want them to come.' They had get to get to the hospital as soon as possible. If they would stop here, that would take more time, time that they didn't have.
'Okay. I'm going to take you to the hospital then.'
You just nodded. You stood up and never for a moment let go of Daniel his hand. He, George, Alex and you made it to his car as quick as you could. There was a lot of press asking question and it pissed you off. How could they be so selfish? You didn't even know how, so how would you answer that?
You got into the car and sat in the backseat with George, who was now holding your hand. You stared in front of you, letting the whole ride to the hospital let pass by.
Once you were at the hospital, things moved fast. You were the first one to arrive at the hospital. A nurse was asking a lot off questions, trying to revise any information you had on Lando his health. She asked questions and you didn't have the answer to them. Jon arrived pretty quickly after you and took over to answer to question. You didn't understand how he could stay so professional like this. You all had no idea how Lando was doing. You had no idea and Jon was acting like everything was okay. How could he stay so calm. Alex handed you a cup of water, but you could drink a sip of it. Daniel holden the cup for you, until you were ready to drink some. They all tried to talk to you, but you just couldn't answer. You could see that they were worried about you too, but every time you opened your eyes, you could feel like you were on the edge of crying and you didn't want to cry. Not when you didn't know how he was doing. So you said nothing. And your mind wondered of thinking about Lando how bad his injuries might be, but also to the moments you two had together; the early morning cuddles in bed, the work out sessions, the laughs you had during cooking and Lando burned something again. It was all in your mind.
Jon sat down with you. 'I have information about Lando.'
Your head shot up at him. 'Tell me,' you croaked out.
'He had a pretty big smack with his head. They taking him up for a CT now. He is conscious, but in a lot of pain. So far that they can tell, it might be his only injury. Because he is in so much pain, his body shut down. It caused him to collapse and why he didn't react to the radio or the medics. They have given him so morphine. When they have to CT results they will come back to talk to us.'
'Can I see him?' You whispered.
'After the CT is cleared.'
Your legs was going up and down. You were anxiously waiting for the doctor to come to tell you that Lando would be fine. It felt like hours passed by, while in reality it may be only have been minutes.
You look up when a doctor comes to sit with you.
'Good or bad news?' George asks.
'Let the man talk,' Jon says to him.
'Your friend is going to be okay. He has had a pretty big smack against the head, but the CT is clear and it luckily only a concussion. We have decoded to keep him in his neck brace, because he complained of some pain there, just to be save. For what the scans showed us, it's nothing, so it's just a preprecossion. He will be sore for a few weeks. But the biggest thing is that he will make a full recovery.'
You nodded and sighed in relieve. You let you of Daniel his hand and ran your hands across your face through your hair. He's going to be okay. The biggest change is that he's going to be okay. Now you felt the tears rolling down your face. But they were happy tears.
'Can I see him now?' you said while wiping away the tears from your face.
'Of course. Anyone you want to take with you?' The doctor asked.
You looked at the boys. You didn't care who was coming with you. All you wanted to do was see him.
'I'll go,' George said.
You both got up and followed the doctor to the room where Lando was in.
'Keep it short. A nurse will come pick you up in five minutes. Keep it light and don't make him move his head to much.'
You nodded.
The doctored opened the door.
There he was, laying on the bed. You heart the heart monitor beating. He was alive. It was only now that it fully sank in. He was going to be okay.
'Hey,' you whispered as you walked closer to the bed. You carefully grabbed Lando his hand and looked at him.
His eyes slowly opened and he looked at you.
'Hi,' you said again and started stroking his hair. 'You're going to be okay. You're okay.' Tears rolled down your cheek, but you smiled. He was going to be okay.
'I love you,' you said and pressed a kiss on his forehead.
'Love you,' he mumbled weekly.
