Chapter 42: Melissa's Quince
This part will focus on planning the party. Next part will focus on dance rehearsal.
Melissa was having tea with her mom and grandmother before they headed to run errands for Melissa's party. Just then Paul called Melissa on face time and she answered and said.
Melissa: hi daddy, how's tour going?
Dad: going good, how are you and mom doing?
Melissa: we are having tea discussion with grandma for my Quince
Dad: oh yeah your Quince is in a couple of weeks
Melissa: yup, so make sure the boys don't have anything book on October 19, they also have to take some classes for my dance on their days off
Dad: for the brothers and sister dance right?
Melissa; yup, that's the one
Dad: well thanks for letting me know the details
Melissa: oh and also, I told grandma I've been doing very well with my Spanish ever since she's been teaching me. Grandma wants me to speak some Spanish at my Quince since she had relatives from Mexico coming over
Dad: are you okay with that?
Melissa: yeah I guess, most of my Americans friends won't understand but I will translate it for them after
Dad: shouldn't you ladies be shopping for her dress
Mel : that's the other thing I want to talk to you about...
Dad: what is it?
Melissa: my dress for my quince, I need money
Paul: Melissa, you already have my permission to use my money for your Quince only, nothing else. I already talked to your mother about it. If I get a bill transaction of something expensive charge, I will make you charge it back.
Melissa: two expensive dress got it
Paul: Melissa...
Melissa: relax dad I was kidding, thanks daddy, have fun on tour, tell the boys I miss them! Oh mom says hi
When they arrive at the popular store for Quince dress grandma said.
Grandma: this is the best store you can find?
Mom: we do live in a small town
Melissa: can we go shopping for my dress in LA instead
Mom: absolutely not those dresses are expensive
Melissa: but, I don't like any of the dresses here, and they don't fit my theme
Grandma: pretty in pink?
Melissa: grandma I told you, my favorite color is mint green
Grandma: or you can just wear my dress
Melissa: I rather braf, grandma I know you want me to have pink fairy tale Quince, but that ain't me
Grandma: okay fine, since you don't like any of the dresses here will shop for heels first
Melissa: sneakers
Grandma: no grand daughter of mine is wearing sneakers at her Quince
Melissa: but I hate heels, mom when was the last time you seen me in heels
Mom: never, you didn't even wear heels at your brothers documentary premiere
Melissa: see!
Grandma: in the ceremony you're supposed transition from regular shoes to heels
Melissa: but grandma
Grandma: but nothing. I'm gonna make your dance instructor teach you how to walk and dance in heels
Melissa: and if I don't?
Grandma: I will spank you with my chancla
Melissa: mom! Tell grandma she has no rights
Mom: honey, she is your grandmother by blood and she has rights to take you away from us and discipline you
Melissa: but daddy does the discipline not grandma or you
Mom: did you forget I use to take the bathroom brush to your wet bottom when you didn't want to take a shower when you're father wasn't around and I had to do the discipline
Melissa: oh yeah, wet spanking hurts a lot *rubs bottom at the memory*

Melissa: *sighs* there's no way of convincing you is their?

Melissa: *sighs* fine, doesn't look like I got a choice anyways *think* I just thought about the perfect solution for my dress, mom where are the boys currently on tour?
Mom: in Anaheim... they have a concert their Saturday why?
Melissa: tell the boys we are going, I want to talk to their stylish to get them to make me my dream dress. Plus we have to see them anyways, they have off the next day, which is the perfect opportunity to practice my dance with my brothers
Grandma: so we are doing everything this weekend?
Melissa: kind of have to since this place is a bust
Mom: honey you haven't given this place a chance
Melissa: mom look around, none of these dress are for Quince
Grandma: she's right, we can always go with my dress
Melissa: grandma...
When Saturday came around, Melissa, her mom and grandma were on their way to the venu to see the family.
Melissa: are you excited grandma? You get to see my brothers perform for the very first time
Grandma: honey, you know I'm not a rockstar type of music
Melissa: trust me, you will love them, have you heard of their song Run Away, you'll love that a lot, here take a listen
Grandma: honey it's not necessary, wow this is a good
Melissa: see I told you, you will like it
When they arrive at the venu, they greeted Paul and Denise and him kissed and Melissa hugged her dad.
Melissa: hi daddy, grandma here too. She's a bit busy, she had Runaway on repeat
Paul: uh... Rose, Rose!
Grandma: oh, sorry Paul, hello dear
Paul: hey Rose, how are you?
Grandma: I'm good
Melissa: daddy, where are the boys?
Paul: at rehearsal
Melissa: come on grandma let's go join them
The boys were rehearsing Sucker as we walked in and I noticed Sophie and said.
Melissa: Sophie *hugs her*
Sophie: hi Mel, I didn't know you were coming
Melissa: it was last minute thing, I'm actually here to rehearse with the boys for my Quince dance
Sophie: I cannot wait for that dance
Melissa: me either, I'm just so proud of my brothers for taking a day off that day so they can come to my party. Sure my birthday will be on the day of the concert, but at least they will be here for that
Frankie: *walks over* hey Mel
Melissa: Frankie! *hugs him* I miss you
Frankie: tour sucks without the rest of the family
Melissa: unlike you, I do have school to finish
Frankie: how is sophomore year
Melissa: it's good, dad says this is the year colleges focus on my grades so I've been trying to keep my A's and B' streak
Frankie: that's good to here
After rehearsal the boys greeted me and mom and met my grandmother too.
Melissa: guys, don't forget tomorrow Quince rehearsal
Nick: we wouldn't miss it
Melissa: you guys are the best! *kiss all three of them on the cheek*
Frankie: hey!
Melissa: *roll eyes* you two Frankie *kiss his cheek*
Frankie: good because unlike them, I however will show up
Melissa: *confused, turns to the boys* what does he mean by that?
JB: *nervous* nothing!
Frankie: I love watching them sweat
JB: *glares at him*
Melissa: hmm... anyways, this is gonna be the best Sweet 15 ever! Nothing could ruin this day, my brothers will be their *puts arms around them* my grandmother is here with us and, mom and dad are paying for the whole thing
Dad: wait what?!
Melissa: *bats eyes at him* you're paying for the whole thing right daddy
Dad: of course, anything for my princess
Melissa: good because we have until next weekend to planned this, oh and boys I need to borrow you're stylish, I want my Quinceañera dress to be a different and new
Grandma: that's my grandmother, getting into the spirit. You're mother would be so proud of you
Melissa: thanks grandma, Sophie come with me to talk to the boys stylish
Sophie: oh okay
Joe: gahhhh she's so happy, when did she get so happy about this, I thought she didn't want it
Dad: her grandmother convinced her and told her, her mother wanted this for her
Nick: So she's doing this because of her mom, not for her?
Dad: part of it, but I know she really wants it whether she wants to admit it or not
Kevin: when did she become so bossy all the sudden and demanding like we are gonna automatically hand her things? She does know she's not getting whatever she wants right dad? If you don't lay down the law with her spending habits she's gonna bankrupt you
Dad: that is why I'm asking you boys to do it
JB: no way!
Joe: have you seen those demon eyes, you cannot turn that away
Dad: it will make up for you three bailing on her Sweet 15
Joe: we're not bailing, we told you that will back on time for our dance entrance
Mom: what are the boys talking about?
Dad: I was gonna tell you about this in person hun, but the boys will be attending WeCanSurvive concert on October 19
Mom: and when were you gonna tell me this
Dad: I just found out from them today
Mom: And you can't cancel?
Joe: they already put us on the flyers mom, and fans already bought tickets to see us
Mom: you're sister gonna be so disappointed she was looking forward for her brothers to be their
Nick: Frankie will be their
Mom: she wants all of you guys. It's a wonderful thing what you boys are doing
Joe: is there anyway Mel can change the dance number time towards the end of the night
Dad: what is she supposed to do for her entrance? Boys, you got to think of a better plan if you don't want to disappoint everyone
Nick: dad's right guys, they both are. We can't disappoint Mel again
Kevin: Then what are we supposed to do? We can't be two places at once
Nick: The point of "Keeping it Real", is to be there with family too, so we have to corporate family into this, without upsetting anybody. Come on guys we need to think.
Melissa: *comes back with Sophie and her grandmother* think about what
JB: ahh!
Joe: think about how, beautiful you will be in you're amazing dress
Melissa: *smiles* thanks for letting me borrow your stylish by the way boys, they agreed
Kevin: uh... we also agreed that we were paying for your Quince instead of dad
Nick/Joe: *turns head* we didn't agree to that!
Kevin: remember it's to make up for that thing...
Nick/Joe: ohhh...
Melissa: What thing?
JB: *scared of her* n-nothing...
Melissa: *gives them look* hmm... well I love you guys so much. You three are the best
Melissa, kiss Kevin, then Joe and Nick all on the cheek and walk off with her grandmother.
Joe: why does she have to make things so hard...
The boys sigh and Sophie looked confused and Frankie.
Frankie: I'll explain later

It was Mel's birthday, and her grandmother went to wake her up.
Grandma: happy birthday darling
Melissa: thank you grandma
Melissa: where is everyone?
Grandma: in the front of the bus
Melissa: how do you like sleeping on the bus grandma?
Grandma: it's different...
Melissa: I know, you'll get used to it.
Grandma: and where do you think you're going?
Melissa: *confused* um... to say hi to everyone???
Grandma: not before your birthday spanking
Melissa: dad never gave me that on my birthday
Grandma: I use to give your mother birthday spanking every year for her birthday. 15 over your pants, 15 on your bare bottom.
Melissa: but that's 30!
Grandma: doesn't matter. Your father gave me permission since it's tradition in our family (a/n: it's only tradition in her mother's side of the family btw). I received the spanking, you're mother did and now you will
Melissa: but grandma-
Grandma: no buts, get over my knees
Her grandmother said, pulling her over her knees. She used her hands and started giving her 15 light swats over her pajamas pants, then she pulled them down and then lastly 15 light swats on her already slightly red bottom and one big swat on her sit spot.

Grandma: that wasn't so bad was it
Melissa: Hmmm...
Grandma: you're lucky you didn't grew up like I did, your great grandmother spanked me with anything she puts her hand on like the switch, the extension cord, hanger

Melissa: well it's the 21st century now and things aren't the same. Sure spanking is allowed in most states of America but some people find it abuse, my school accepts corporal punishment tho
Grandma: good for them, some kids deserve a whooping nowadays. Some parents just let their kids get away with everything with no consequences
Dad: *pokes head out* is everything okay?
Melissa: yeah dad, dad... how can you let grandma spank me *pouts*
Dad: she said it was tradition in her family
Melissa: on my birthday tho! What have I done that was bad?
Dad: *about to say something*
Melissa: don't start, I already know. Kind of better she did it anyways to prepare to things I was gonna say...
Dad: anyways will talk about that tomorrow... time for birthday breakfast, we are going to iHop
Melissa: yay!!!
The family stopped at the hotel before catching an uber together to Mel's birthday breakfast to iHop.
Mel blew out her candle on her pancake after making a wish and her family wished her Happy Birthday.
Dad: my little girl growing up
Melissa: daddy, don't make me cry
Mom: Mel, scoot over to your dad so we can have a picture, and fix your tiara
Melissa: oh...
Melissa fixes her "birthday girl" tiara, and wraps her arm around her dad's waist and their mom took the photo of them.
Melissa: love you daddy *kiss his cheek and let's go*
Dad: love you too pumpkin
Nick: So... how does it feel to be 15?
Melissa: I don't feel any different. I still feel like the same old Mel
Dad: good that means my little girl hasn't change
Melissa: and I never will, doesn't matter how old I get. I will always be the girl you guys raised me to be, and I thank you. If it wasn't for you guys, I would probably have ended up in the streets like my mom
Dad: you're nothing like your mother, she wanted you to have a good life, and I'm respecting that wish for her. I don't ever want you to go to the dark path like she did
Melissa: *smiles* I won't *hugs him* I won't let you down dad, thanks for being the best father figure to me, I probably would be messed up right now if I didn't have you as my father
Dad: thank you baby, and I'm so blessed you're my daughter, blood or not, you're family and we love you no matter what
Melissa: no matter what
Melissa smiled after Papa J kissed her forehead and the family smiled at their bond.
The rest of her birthday they held her birthday at the boys concert and wished her a happy birthday with the fans and blew out her candles on her cake.
Sunday.
Melissa's POV
When it was time for my Quince party after we did the church thing. It was party time, I was a bit nervous to come out in front of my relatives of people I never met on my mom's side of the family, would they like me? Would they accept me for who I am? What did my grandmother say to them, exactly. All these questions were going through my mind.
Melissa: I can't do this
I said to my brothers who were with me in the waiting area with their wives who were joining us for the court of honor.
Joe: what do you mean you can't do this? Young lady, we didn't pay a lot of this money for this party for nothing
Melissa: shut your pie hole Joe, this isn't about you losing money
Joe: excuse me?
Melissa: I mean I love you
Joe: I'm gonna let that one go since it's your special day and your probably not yourself
Melissa: sorry... *bites bottom lip* I'm scared to meet my real family, what if they don't like me? My dad didn't want me
Kevin: That's because your dad is an ass, they're gonna love you. Just like we do
Nick: I mean what's not to like, your beautiful tonight
Frankie: and pretty determined when you can be
Melissa: *smiles at them* what would I do without you guys? You guys are the best brothers in the world *hugs them*
Boys: we love you too
Melissa: even tho your careers are taking off again, you still manage to be here and I never been grateful to have you guys as my big brothers
Joe: and we're grateful to have you as our little sister
Melissa: even when I get on your nerves
Joe: even that
Melissa: *to Kevin* btw thank Mikie for putting all this together, I cannot wait to see everything, grandma didn't want me to see the surprise yet
Kevin: of course, anything for you
Melissa: *smiles*
Papa J: *comes in* time for the introduction
Melissa: Where's Caesar?
Caesar: *comes out from behind Papa J* miss me?
Melissa: hey *hugs him*
First they introduced Frankie and Harley, next was Nick and Priyanka, then was Joe and Sophie, after was Kevin and Danielle, next was Mama J and Papa J.
Announcer: and now... let's welcome the reason why we all are here today, please welcome as we honor Melissa Paula Sorrento-Jonas as she is escorted by her date Caesar Diaz.
Caesar: you ready? *holds out hand*
Meissa: *smiles and grabs hand* yeah I'm ready
Caesar: don't worry, I won't let go
I have the most amazing man ever.
I hung on to him as we were being escorted out as everyone around us stood clapped for us and the two danced to "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran as their entrance dance.
After my introduction grandma and I introduced everyone to her side of my family aka my mother's crazy family which is what my mother would have called them if she was here today. I never knew I had cousins, step-cousin, aunt and uncle. I knew I had an uncle but mom rarely talks about him because he was the one that introduced them in the first place. (a/n: something I also left out as well) I also had a great-aunt, and great uncle. I wonder why my mom turned away from her big family. She literally could have bunk with any of her family members, but she chose someone she hasn't spoken to in 10 years. I'm glad she made that choice because I wouldn't ask for a better family to be a part of.
Next was the crowning of the Quinceanera which is traditionally supposed to be done by my mother. But since she's not in my life, Mama J decided to take her place. Mama J said a wonderful speech about me and the bond with my mother, as she represented the doll and told me, even though she couldn't replace my mother, she was thankful that she can be a mother figure in my life. I thanked Mama J for all the nice things she said about my mom in front of her family, now all the people that have talked about her behind her back can shove the cake up their ass. She put the crown on my head and I gave her a hug and she kissed my cheek.
Next was the changing of my heels, which was presented by my dad, he removed my shoes and put on my heels, and I gave him a hug and he kissed my cheek and told me he was so proud of me, making us both our eyes flood with tears as we hugged.
Later it was time for the dance between me, my boyfriend, my brothers, their wives and my best friend. Dylan was here too but we didn't have a date for him for the dance so he chose to sit out and watch.

After a toast from my dad and we ate. Now it was time for the real party to start. I danced with my friends and my brothers told me they had to go for the We Can Survive event. I thanked them for coming, and the three of them wished me and Caesar well as they hurried up to go to the concert.
Towards the end of the party after we dance, had cake, my dad wanted to say a thank you to my family members for coming out in celebrating my birthday.
Dad: Mel honey, I'm so proud of the woman you have become, and so thankful to call you my daughter
Melissa: I'm proud to call you my dad too
We both hugged and thanked the family and everyone that helped put this amazing Quince together. I'm so glad to be surrounded by my family. I don't know what I would have done without them. I hope things don't change between my family and I, or so I thought...
