Connor's POV

I open my eyes and find myself back in the Zen Garden. I walk around until I find Amanda in a boat and walk towards her.

"Hello, Connor." She greets. "I thought you might enjoy a little cruise."

I hop in and push the boat away from the shore and further into the river.

'Yeah and I gotta do all the work.'

I row the boat in the river as Amanda speaks.

"I love this place. Everything is so calm and peaceful. Far from the noise of the world. Tell me, what have you discovered?"

"My relationship with Lieutenant Anderson is problematic. He continues to struggle with psychological issues. I suspect it clouds his judgment regarding deviants. On top of that, (Y/n)'s disappearance doesn't help. She's been gone for two days now."

"Nothing matters more than your investigation." Amanda snaps. "What's happening is too important. Don't let the Anderson's or anyone else get in your way."

I row for a bit more before Amanda speaks up once again.

"You seem lost, Connor. Lost and perturbed."

I look at her and look down. "I thought I knew what I had to do but now I realize it's not that simple."

Amanda ↓

"You had your gun trained on those deviants at the Eden Club. Why didn't you shoot?"

I think about my answer wisely.

'I can't tell her the truth. She wouldn't like that.'

"We need the deviants intact for analysis. Shooting them wouldn't have told us anything."

She stays silent so I'm guessing my response was okay.

"If your investigation doesn't make progress soon, I may have to replace you, Connor."

"I know I will succeed. All I need is time."

Amanda ↑

Thunder rumbles in the sky and Amanda looks up.

"Something's happening." She says. "Something serious. Hurry, Connor. Time is running out."

Your POV

I hear police sirens so that's my cue to leave. I look at Simon.

"I have to go. I'll try to keep them away from the roof. Find a way to get back to them and stay safe." I tell him.

He nods. "Thank you, (Y/n)."

I smile and then open the container. I check my surroundings to make sure it's clear before I step out.

'Time to head inside. Dad and Connor are probably already in there.'

I open the door to the roof and walk down the stairs and back into the broadcast room. I look around to see officers are already on the scene and what looks like... FBI agents?

'The fuck are they doing here?'

"Oh Lieutenant, this is Special Agent Perkins from the FBI." I whip my head over to the sound of Chris' voice. I smile as I see Dad and Connor.

'Turns out I was right about the feds being here.'

"Lieutenant Anderson is in charge of investigating for Detroit Police." Chris continues the introduction.

"What's that?" Perkins asks, nodding his head over to Connor.

'Who the fuck does he think he is, talking to Connor like that.'

I start walking over to them.

"My name is Connor. I'm the android sent by CyberLife." Connor introduces himself.

Perkins scoffs. "Androids investigation androids, huh?"

"What's wrong with that?" I say from behind Perkins and all their heads turn towards me but I keep my eyes focused on Perkins. "It's just like humans investigating humans. Crazy right?" I ask sarcastically.

Perkins glares at me. "Who let a child on an active crime scene?" He asks as he looks around and then looks back at me. "Who do you think you are?"

I open my mouth to answer but then I'm tackled with hugs.

"(Y/n)!" Dad and Connor say simultaneously as they rush over to me and bend to my level and hug me. Connor on my left and Dad on my right.

I smile and chuckle at them. I then look back at Perkins. "The name's (Y/n) Anderson. I help the DPD solve cases."

Perkins looks at us. "You sure you want an android hanging around? After everything that happened." Dad and I glare at him but don't say anything. Connor and Dad let go of me and stand up. "Whatever, the FBI will take over the investigation, you'll soon be off the case."

"Pleasure meeting you. Have a nice day." Dad says and starts walking away.

"And you watch your step. Don't fuck up my crime scene."

"Nice meeting you too, Agent Dildo. Have a nice day." I say and wave. "Hope the door hits you on the way out."

Dad and Chris laugh once Perkins is out of range and even Connor chuckles.

"See you still got the sass," Chris says to me. "Glad to have you back, (Y/n)."

I smile. "Well, he deserved it." I shrug.

Dad nods. "What a fuckin' prick!"

Chris smiles. "I'll be nearby. If you need anything, just ask." He says and walks away.

Connor and Dad look down at me and I smile at them. "I missed you guys."

"You have no idea how much I missed you, kiddo," Dad says and picks me up, holding me tight and I giggle. "I was so worried."

"Worried to the point he started drinking excessively and played Russian roulette," Connor says.

I look at Dad. "Dad!"

"Connor!" Dad yells at him.

"Dad," I say once again and raise an eyebrow at him.

"You were gone for two days!" Dad says defensively. "Anything could've happened. You had the whole precinct worried."

"How did you find us?" Connor asks.

I shrug. "Followed the sound of sirens." I lie.

"And the change of clothes?"

"I had help along the way," I tell him. "Why do I feel like you're interrogating me?"

Connor gives me a small smile. "I am an android detective."

I smile at him and hold an arm out to him, indicating I want Connor to hold me now. Dad gives me off to Connor and he holds me stiffly at first but then relaxes. I look at him and giggle and then run my fingers through his hair, messing it up.

"Hey!" He says and puts me down. He then fixes up his hair as I giggle at him. Dad even smiles.

"Let's have a look around," Dad says, finally getting to work. "Let me know if you find anything."

"Ok, Lieutenant." Connor answers.

Dad points at me. "Don't go off wandering this time."

"It was one time!" I say defensively. "And I was chasing a deviant not wandering."

Dad rolls his eyes and takes a look around. I look at Connor to see him looking at the CCTV recordings. I walk over to him to see the recording of Markus, North, Simon, Josh, and Rupert outside of the broadcast room, calling for access and then stepping in.

Connor turns around and looks at Chris. "They didn't break in?"

"No, no sign of forced entry." Chris answers.

"There are cameras in the hallway," Connor says and points towards the door and then turns back to the recordings. "The staff would have seen what was happening. Why did they let them in?" Connor looks at Dad.

Dad just shrugs. "Maybe they didn't check the cameras."

Connor looks back at the recordings once more, placing his hands on the console as he bends over and shakes his head. Then he spots the chair in front of it and turns it around to show that an android was positioned there.

"We stored the station androids in the kitchen. There's no evidence that they were involved but we didn't know what else to do with them." Chris says, noticing Connor looking at the chair marked 'android.'

Connor doesn't say anything and just goes to the big TV where Markus' message is displayed. I just follow behind him silently. He plays the message and Dad comes over to hear it.

"We ask that you recognize our dignity, our hopes, and our rights. Together, we can live in peace and build a better future, for humans and androids. This message is the hope of a people. You gave us life. And now the time has come for you to give us freedom."

I look at Connor as he just stares at Markus.

"Think that's rA9?" Dad asks.

"Deviants say rA9 will set them free," Connor says without taking his eyes off the screen. "This android seems to have that objective."

Connor doesn't say anything after that and continues to stare at the screen. Dad and I share a look.

"You see something?" Dad asks him.

Connor looks at me in the corner of his eyes.

'Oh no. Did he find out?'

He then looks away and answers. "I identified its model and serial number."

"Anything else we should know?" Dad asks.

"No. Nothing."

Dad and I share a look, obviously not convinced but neither of us says anything.

'He's withdrawing information. And the way he looked at me... Maybe he did see something that we both can't see that links me to this case.'

Dad walks away and I follow Connor around as he looks at the hat Markus left behind. Connor then looks at the control panel where the speech was shot from. From that, he goes over to the bullet holes where the SWAT team entered from. After that, he goes over to the blue blood splattered on the glass and takes a sample of it with his fingers and puts it in his mouth.

"Connor! That's disgusting!" I say and resist the urge to gag.

Connor doesn't say anything as he analyzes the blood on his fingers. He then examines the bullet holes next to it and the ones near the roof access.

I look at all the bullet holes and sigh. "SWAT wouldn't have shot this many rounds of bullets if they were human, so why treat androids differently?" I say.

Connor looks at me. "You've been really quiet, (Y/n). You're usually pointing out evidence and helping me solve this."

'Yeah well, I was involved in this and don't want to risk you finding that out if you haven't already.'

I shrug. "I'm just really tired. I haven't been home for two days and had to look out for myself." I lie.

Connor looks at me and I know for sure he probably knows I'm lying but he doesn't say anything.

"I'm going to check on the androids in the kitchen." He tells me.

I nod and wander around. I make my way to Dad and see him trying to do Connor's coin trick.

"Tryna do Connor's coin trick I see," I say as I come up behind him.

Dad jumps, dropping the coin in the process. "Jesus." He says as he turns around to face me. "I'm gonna start putting bells on you." He points at me and then bends down to pick up the coin.

I chuckle. "Can I try?"

Dad shrugs and hands me the coin. "Sure. Knock yourself out."

I try flipping and throwing the coin in my hands only to fail. I let out a frustrated sigh.

"How does Connor do this?!"

"See!" Dad says as he was watching me try the trick.

I shake my head and then look towards the kitchen to see one of the androids leave.

'I thought Connor was interrogating them.'

"I'm gonna check on Connor. He's been in that kitchen for too long." I say.

Dad nods. "Alright."

I walk over to the kitchen and hear something. It's weak but audible.

"Hank. (Y/n), I need help."

It's Connor!

I rush in and see Connor on the floor, crawling.

"Connor!" I rush over to him and cradle his head in my lap.

He grunts and points to something. I look over to see his power core on the floor in the middle of the kitchen.

"Grab... grab my... power core." Connor grunts out.

I set him down and nod. I pick it up and run back over to him, placing it in Connor's hand. He takes it and rolls on his back, placing the power core back where it belongs. I see his shirt is covered in blue blood and so is his right hand where it looks like he was stabbed at.

Connor takes a moment to regain control of his system before hurrying to his feet.

"We have to warn them!" He says.

I nod and the two of us run out to the hallway where the deviant was trying to get away.

"STOP HIM!" I yell as we run into the room.

"It's a deviant! STOP IT!" Connor yells.

The deviant grabs a gun from a police officer and goes to shoot. Connor pushes me behind him and takes a gun from the FBI agent next to him and shoots the deviant before he could react. The deviant's body slumps to the ground and Connor hands the gun back to the FBI agent without looking at him.

Dad gets up and helps Chris to his feet too.

"Nice shot, Connor," Dad says to him.

"I wanted it alive," Connor says.

"You saved human lives. You saved my life."

Connor just looks at him.

I playfully punch Connor in the arm. "Good job."

Connor looks down at me. His LED blinking yellow.

"Come on you two," Dad says, gaining our attention. "Let's get you two cleaned up. I bet (Y/n) would like a shower after being missing for two days."

We nod and the three of us head out while the FBI is left cleaning up the mess.
