it was a bit rough at first
having had lots of attention
at least i'd quit going out
just at the right time
i'd a dozen or more women
at my table every weekend
they were all kind to me
i'd protect them from guys
who were drunk .. on drugs
pawing at them like animals
finally i'd gotten a couple of guys
to watch after these vulnerable women
I danced with .. kissed them all goodbye
even a few women had tears in their eyes
when I politely bowed .. made my final exit
fast forward .. I rediscovered myself
back in nature .. walking in the forest
along the peaceful river's forest edge
i'd almost forgotten what i'd been missing
collected some rare pieces of driftwood
took it home .. my old hobby resurfaced
creating unique pieces of art
the radio's volume was loud
tuning out the entire world
once again gaining peace of mind
pondering the last few years
my life seemed so wasted
creating art .. listening to rock music
somehow kept me from going insane
i'd a few chance meetings with lady artists
pleasant walks in the park
sharing a bottle of fine wine
a quiet picnic on the levee
right beside the rushing river
life took on new meaning
