Stevie and her group of girlfriends descended on a circular booth in the far corner of the karaoke bar she had been frequenting since she was 19. Lily had been fine with the concept of Timothée and his friends tagging along, provided she was seated furthest away from him and that Charlotte was there to provide immediate relief if things got awkward.
"I'm so excited to see the two of you together!" Gia exclaimed. Lily and Charlotte had gone to order the first round of drinks for the evenings events. "I've not been in the same room as the two of you at the same time since 2015."
"That's insane." Lola chimed in.
"Almost 5 years." Gia sighed, nodding. "I liked Timothée. I always wanted you guys to get back together. I don't know if it was obvious."
"Oh, it was very obvious." Stevie laughed lightly.
"Yes, very obvious." Lola agreed immediately, almost talking over Stevie. "I liked him, but I always felt like Timothée didn't really like me."
Stevie chuckled and shook his head. "I think he was scared of you."
"Scared of me?" Lola furrowed her brows. "Why?"
"You are pretty scary." Gia shrugged. "I used to think you didn't like me, until I realised you just don't have any variation in your tone of voice so you just sound angry all the time."
"Like a Rosa Diaz kinda vibe." Stevie clarified, rubbing her friends shoulder. "Aggressive but lovable."
"Let's go ladies!" Lily sung as she arrived back to the table, setting down 5 tequila shots on the table and sliding back into the booth next to Gia.
"I'm going to need another 10 of these if I want to erase the entirety of 2019 from my memory." Lola shuddered, taking her shot neat. Salt and lime thrown to the wind. She winced and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. "Finals killed me off."
"At least you're finally finished with school." Stevie reassured her. Charlotte approached the table, another 2 drinks in her hands and a barman with another 3 trailing behind her.
"I just wish I never went to USC for a year. Like what a fucking waste." She shook her head. "NYU was kinda a waste too. Like I don't have a clue what I want to do with my life."
"Ok. Can we talk about this tomorrow? Good vibes only tonights please!" Charlotte demanded, settling down into the booth and thanking the barman for his help. She raised her glass, the other girls following her lead. "To 2020!"

The girls were relatively drunk considering it was only 10pm. They were all having conversations amongst themselves when the door to the bar swung open and Timothée and his friends, Giullian, Will and someone Stevie had never seen before, entered the bar. They waved in the direction of the group but signalled they were going to grab some drinks first. After a few minutes they approached the booth.
"Hey." Stevie stood up to welcome them, giving Timothée a quick hug. She wasn't sure whether to kiss him or not so decided the hug would suffice.
"Hey." He wrapped his arms tight around her and nuzzled his head into the crook of her neck. "I missed you." He whispered, before pulling away, leaving Stevie blushing. "Hey guys." He took the time to smile at all of the girls sat at the table, nodding at Lily to establish their mutual respect. "This is Giullian, Will and Joey."
The girls all stood up to welcome the boys and to rearrange the dynamic of the table. Timothée and Stevie in the middle and everyone else filling in around them.
"It's nice to see you guys again." Stevie smiled at Timothée's friends, her arms resting on the table and then looked to Joey. "And nice to meet you, of course."
"Yeah, same goes for you guys." Timothée nodded at Gia and Lola. "How are you guys? What have you been up to?"
The group fell into casual chatter and they all had the chance to reminisce and catch up on the paths that their lives had taken them over the years. This allowed Timothée the opportunity to withdraw from the intense socialisation discreetly. He started playing with the bracelet on Stevie's wrist, his fingers rubbing her skin accidentally.
Stevie turned her head slightly to look at him. "You okay?" She mouthed, slightly concerned at the boys sudden shyness.
He nodded, pressing a quick kiss to her shoulder before reengaging with the conversation of the table.

A loud bell rang throughout the bar, followed by a large man with a beard hollering. "Midnight in 2 minutes!"
"Oh, shit!" Gia exclaimed. "Come on guys, let's go outside." She started clapping to rush everyone to get up and get their jackets on to go outside.
The group quickly started to get ready and peel off, with Stevie and Timothée at the back. He slipped his arm through hers so that they were linking loosely. "I'm really happy that you wanted to see me tonight."
"I just thought it would be weird for us to be in the same city for New Years and not spend it together." She smiled and just looked at him for a moment as they walked. She thought back to the last time they had spent New Years Together they had been 18 and 19 years old, both naive and inexperienced. In a weird way she was thankful that Timothée had done what he did all of those years ago. They had both had the time to grow and mature and find their own way in life and they ultimately had found their way back to each other.
They found their way to the front outside the bar. Stevie looked around, everyone was smiling and everything was right. Lily and Charlotte were hugging each other to combat the cold, Lola was drunk and trying to see how many members of the group she could pick up. The ecstasy was contagious.
Stevie stopped Timothée before they joined the group.
"10! 9!"
"What's up?" He asked, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"8! 7!"
"I'm ready." She nodded, chewing at her bottom lip.
"6! 5!"
"You're ready?" He leaned closer to her to check that he had heard her correctly.
She sighed deeply and met his eyes finally. Everyone else disappeared. She couldn't even hear the chanting crowd anymore. "I'm ready... to let you love me again."
He pulled back and looked at her properly, wide eyed in surprise, his mouth hung open slightly. "Really?!"
She nodded, her smile taking up her entire face. She pulled him back towards her and pressed her lips against his.
