I opened the car door before Jay even stopped the car. "I love you" I jumped out and ran up to one of the cars. I turned around and smiled at Jay. "Hey honey, what's your name?" "Ruby" "Hey Ruby I'm Kat" I fell down on the floor and checked under the car. Then truck and squad pulled up. I turned around and looked at them "I've got a driver and a kid passenger" Severide and Cruz came running across
"There's a leak" Severide nodded. "Hey, Ruby can you tell me where it hurts?" "My chest" I looked at Severide "Can you point to where?" she pointed to the right side of her chest "What about your neck?" "It's a small bit sore" "Ruby I'll be right back these are my friends, Kelly and Joe, they are going to get you out" I smiled and ran over to 61.
"Brett I'm stealing a kids c-collar" "Ok Hart" I jumped in the ambo and took out a c-collar and ran back over to the car.
"Kels I'm going in" "Kat be safe" I nodded and climbed into the car through the front driver's side. I put the c-collar around her neck "Kat protect her face" I nodded and took my jacket off and covered her face. Kelly was close to getting the car door just as the car caught fire. "Kelly move faster" I grabbed my radio "51 or 81 can someone get this fire out I've got a kid in here next to me" I lay my body over Ruby in case the flames got bigger and moved closer. Kelly and Cruz got the door open. I moved my jacket away and I moved to the side. Kelly put a backboard in and I slid Ruby onto it. I grabbed my jacket and climbed out. "That was close" "Damn right it was" I nodded just as the car exploded.
"Kat, can you hear me? Kat?" I opened my eyes and blinked a lot so I could adjust to the light. "Hey Kat" I gave a weak smile "How do you feel?" I looked at Kelly "Like a car just exploded" I smiled and gave a little chuckle "What hurts?" "Just my wrist." Kelly helped me sit up "Thanks" I smiled and Kelly kissed my head. "Kat I want to take you in to make sure you don't have a concussion and to get that wrist checked" I nodded "Let's go were taking Ruby" I nodded and Kelly helped me stand up and walk over to the ambo because I couldn't put weight on my right ankle. I sat in the back of ambo next to Ruby "Jay is not going to be happy with you" I nodded "That's true he was mad at me earlier never mind now" "You're not having a good day today" I shook my head then turned my attention to Ruby "So Ruby how old are you?" "9" "9 wow" I smiled.
Foster opened the door "Take Ruby first" they nodded and took the gurney out of the ambo then Will came out "Sylvie said you were out here" I nodded "So what happened this time?" "Car explosion I was knocked out" "I'll help you in" I nodded and put my arm around Will's neck and he helped me in "Where to Maggie?" I smiled "Kat again? Trauma 3." Will helped me onto the bed. I took my straps down off my shoulders. "So Kat what hurts?" "My wrist and I can't put pressure on my right ankle" "I'll get some x-rays" I nodded and Will walked out. After my x-rays, Will walked back in with Jay behind him.
I looked at Will then Jay "Ok Kat you have a sprained ankle and a fractured wrist" I nodded "I'll get April in but I want to check you don't have a concussion" I nodded and Will made sure I didn't have a concussion "Ok you don't have a concussion but you won't be able to work as a firefighter for a month or so and you will be off for 2 weeks becasue you won't be able to walk without crushed" I nodded "Alright I'll get April in now" "Thanks Will" I smiled and looked at Jay "Twice in one day" I nodded and took my phone out my turnout pants that were on the bed behind me "I'm going to finish my shift even if I can't go out on calls" "Ok fine." April walked in with a splint and some crutches.
"Hey, Hart" "Hi April" "Ok so I'm gonna bandage your ankle then splint your arm and you can get going after that" I smiled. After April was done I grabbed my turnout pants and put them on. "Jay I want to go see Owen" "Ok last time I was in here he was moved upstairs" I nodded and grabbed my crutches and walked over to Jay and kissed him "I'm never gonna stop" "You're never gonna stop running into burning buildings like I'm never gonna stop jumping in front of bullets" I nodded "Exactly" "Now let's go see Owen" I smiled and we walked up to Owen who was in the paediatrics ward.
I knocked on the door and Owen smiled and I walked in and over to the chair. I handed Jay my crutches and sat down on the edge of the bed. "Hey Owen" "Hi Kat" he had a big smiled on his face "What happened?" "I fell" "So Owen how are you feeling?" "Better" "That's good" I looked at Jay "I'm gonna come visit you when I can" I smiled "Ok thank you for saving me" "It's my job" Jay handed me my crutches and I stood up "Bye Owen" "Bye Kat" I walked out and over to Jay and kissed him "Let's get you back to 51" I nodded and we walked out to Jay's car. Jay helped me into the car and he took the crutches and put them in the back of the car.
Jay handed me my crutches and I walked up to the apparatus floor. "Kat" Kelly came running up to me "I'm fine" "The crutches and splint say otherwise" "Ok I have a sprained ankle and a fractured wrist" Kelly shook his head "Where's Noah?" "With Sylvie" I nodded and took my turnout pants off and put them to the side then walked into the common room.
"There she is" I smiled and looked at Casey "I might need a new turnout jacket" "You think?" I chuckled "So how long you out?" "2 weeks as a paramedic and a month as a firefighter" "Well I'll order you a new turnout for then what do you want on it?" "Erm, next month is August so Hart" "Consider it ordered" I looked at Sylvie who just walked into the common room with Noah. "Hey, there's my little man" I turned to Jay "Did you ever get the man who almost caused us to crash?" "Yeah he's in custody" I nodded "Go back to work but don't say anything about the explosion" "Ok I'll say I was coming to see Noah" "Ok I love you" "I love you too" I kissed him then walked over to the circle table and sat down when Chief Boden walked in.
"Hart, how are you?" "I'll survive" I smiled and looked at Noah who was crawling about the place. Then Antonio walked in "Antonio just the man" I smiled grabbed my crutches and walked up to him. "Follow me" I walked into the common room and sat down on one of the tables and put my crutches to the side.
"What happened to you?" "Car explosion" he shook his head "So what's up Kat?" "My dress is getting delivered to Sylvies and you can't tell Jay what it looks like" "Why?" "You owe me for the proposal" I looked around before saying proposal "Fine I won't say anything" "Are you going back to the 21st?" "Yeah don't say anything to anyone about the explosion" "Why?" "I want to surprise them all tomorrow after shift" Antonio shook his head. I grabbed my crutches and stood up and walked back to the common room. "See you later Antonio" "See you tomorrow" I nodded and walked out to squad table.
Kelly was holding Noah when I walked out "I feel useless" I sat down and put my crutches to the side. "Kat don't feel useless you saved a little boy and girl today" I looked down at the floor then I felt 2 arms around me. "Kat you can't feel useless you are an amazing person and if you weren't here none of those lives we have said would be here" I looked up at Kelly "Thanks" I gave him a slight smile and he handed me Noah and I kissed his head. "Lunch is ready" I looked up at Kelly and he took Noah from me and I grabbed my crutches and walked into the common room.
I sat down and put my crutches to the side and looked at Kelly "Can you get me some?" "Yeah" he kissed my head and then brought me a plate of spaghetti over. "Thanks, Kels" I smiled and he placed the plate of spaghetti in front of me. I started eating once I was done I grabbed my crutches and then my plate and walked over. I put my plate in the dishwasher then walked over to Noah's pushchair and grabbed a bottle then fed him. "There you go, little man daddy will be here soon" I kissed his forehead then put the empty bottle back in the diaper bag. "Kelly can you change Noah please" he looked at me and I lifted my arm "Fine" I smiled and sat back at the table. "So how is that little boy?" I looked at Foster "He's up in paediatrics I saw him quickly before I came back" "He's in the best place" I nodded and looked at Sylvie "How's Antonio?" "Good I think." I turned to face the apparatus floor just as Jay was walking in. I grabbed my crutches and walked up to him. I kissed him "Hey baby" "Hey handsome" "I didn't say anything to the 21st" I nodded and kissed him again "So wheres Noah?" "Kelly's changing him because I can't" I put my head on his chest and he put his arms around me "You sure you don't want to come home" I nodded "I'll feel even more useless at home" he kissed my head "Hey Kelly" "Hey man" Kelly walked in just as the bells went

"Do you want anything to eat Jay?" "Nah I'm alright" I looked up at him "Ridder's a good cook he won't poison you" I smiled "I'm not hungry" "Ok" I looked up at him again "Erm all Noah's stuff is in there I think I've been at med more than here" I smiled "How's Owen?" "We caught the guy it was arson but he admitted to it not knowing that we would look into it if he didn't confess" "That's good" I sat down and turned to look at Jay "I'm gonna get going because if I don't I'll be here all day" I chuckled and smiled. I stood up and walked over to Noah and kissed his forehead. I looked up at Jay "I love you" "I love you too" I kissed him then walked him down to the apparatus floor. I smiled and walked over to the squad table. I sat down on the table and put my crutches in between my legs and watched Jay put Noah in the car then drive away. I took my phone out my pocket and I had a message from Mouse "Hey Kat sorry it keeps taking me so long to get back. They didn't leave Ruzek in charge of the computers, did they? Call me when you get the chance" I closed the message then called Mouse. "Hey, It's Kat" "Hey Kat it's good to hear your voice" "You too I'm sorry I would say your name but I'm on shift" "Don't worry about I get it" "Can you hold on a minute while I get somewhere private" I looked at Kelly "Sure" I grabbed my crutches and walked into the bunk room.
"Sorry about that" "No problem is everything ok?" I took my crutches off and put them next to me as I sat on my bed. "Yeah sorry I've only got one leg and one arm at the moment" "Are you ok?" "Yeah car explosion" "What is it you do again?" "Ah I'm a firefighter and paramedic" "Ah that makes more sense" I chuckled "So I want to surprise him by you showing up at the ceremony and to see his reaction I'll get the photographer in on it so I and him are the only people that know about it" "That sounds good" "I need to go and speak to my lieutenant but I'll phone you tomorrow" "Sounds good" "See you" "Bye" I smiled and grabbed my crutches and walked up to Casey's quarters.
"Hey, Hart just the person" I looked at him "Come in and shut the door" I walked in and shut the door behind me "Ok so Herrmann is a man down on Engine so Mouch is moving over there permanently so I was wondering if you wanted to join truck permanently" I looked at him in shock "Are you serious?" "Yeah" "I would love to but I need to speak to Jay" "That's ok take your time even if you said yes you wouldn't be back on truck for a while anyway" I nodded "Thanks Casey" I walked over to my bed and sat down. I put my crutches to the side and lay down.
