Y/N POV
I was woke up by an all to familiar voice shaking me.
"Baby, it's time to get up." Race sad
"No." I mumbled
Race let out a laugh before grabbing my waist and pulling me out of bed. I let out a scream as he tossed me over his shoulder.
"Race my hat" I said as he started to walk away
"You don't need it" he answered
I can feel the smirk on his face as he carried me downstairs, the other newsies laughed as they saw what was happening.
"Race, put the poor kid down" Jack said
Race mumbled something I couldn't make out and he placed me on the ground. I rolled my eyes and ran upstairs to grab my shoes. Once I had my shoes I quickly put them on and ran down stairs. I jumped onto Races back and smiled as he placed his hands on my legs keeping me in place. I gave Race a quick kiss on the cheek before we started to make our way to the distribution center. As we walked I saw Katherine walking with Darcy, I quickly jumped off Race's and ran to a place where Katherine couldn't see me.
"Well hello, hello there beautiful." Romeo said
"Step aside Romeo, good morning miss. May I interest you in morning paper." Jack said
"The paper isn't out yet." Katherine answers
I jumped when a pair of arms wrapped around me making me lose concentration in the rest of the conversation. I quickly hugged Race back, Race and I have been dating for a few months and man does this boy know how to make me feel like a queen/king. Race grabbed my hand pulling me along with the rest of the boys. I tripped over my feet and soon fell flat on my face.
"You good?" Specs asked me
"Yeah. I'm . great" I said laughing between each word
Specs chuckled before helping me up, we got into line to get our papers when I noticed a new boy.
"So Y/N how do you think these new boys will do?" Specs asked me
"Not good because look how the older boy is dressed. God." I mumbled
"Someone has an attitude today" Specs teased
"I will hurt you" I snapped turning around
Before anything could happen Race walked over to me and pulled me away. He wrapped his arms around me, one arm around my waist the other playing with my hair.
"I bought you papes" Race mumbled
I pushed myself away from Race and looked at him.
"Why? I could have done it. I am paying you back and don't say no" I said
I reached into my pocket and pulled out some coins, I placed them in Races hand just as Jack started to yell.
"Newsies hit the streets the sun is up, the headline stinks and this kid ain't getting any younger." Jack said
I grabbed my papes from race gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and them ran down to my spot. When I got to my spot it only took my an hour to sell all my papers, on my way back to the lodging house I saw Katherine walking around with Darcy still. I stopped dead in my tracks before running away to Brooklyn. Once I was in Brooklyn I found an alley and sank down, my head was laying on the cold wall.
"Rough day?" A person asked
I looked up to see Spot.
"How can ya tell?" I asked
"Well your in Brooklyn, you only come here when you're hiding from something or someone" Spot said "Let me guess Katherine."
"Bingo" I answered
At this point Spot was sitting down next to me, I moved so that I was laying down with my head on his lap. Spot might be this big bad boy but he is a huge softy when it comes to people he's close to.
"You know you can't keep hiding from her, she is either going to find you or one of the boys is going to find out" Spot said
"I know, I know. I just don't want them to treat me differently" I mumbled
"You told me and I treat you the same" Spot said
"True, I better get back the Hatten before Race freaks out that I am not there" I said while getting up
Spot pulled my into a hug before I left, I gave him a small smile before walking back to Hatten. Once I got to the lodging house I let out a deep sigh, my life wasn't the best at home. My father expected me to be like my older sister and act exactly like her. But here is the problem, Katherine is super sweet and nice to everyone while I can kill someone if I want to. I soon headed upstairs and found Race laying on his bed, I went over to him and laid down next to him.
"You okay?" He asks me
I let out a small groan.
"What happened?" Race asked
"I don't wanna talk about it" I answered
"Okay, I don't wanna force you." Race said
"Actually can we talk? Away from everyone else?" I asked
Race seemed nervous but he nodded his head and dragged me up to the roof since Jack and Crutchie isn't here.
"Speak" He said
"What I am about to tell you, you have to promise not to get mad or tell anyone." I said
"I promise" Race answered
"Okay, well you know how I told you I ran away from home. Well My father and sister live in New York and I keep seeing my sister and I am worried she is going to see me and tell my father. But my father isn't a normal person you see my father is Pulitzer. I ran away because he wanted me to be like my sister and I couldn't deal with that. God I am so sorry I didn't tell you only one person know other than you and I just had to-"
Race cut me off by pressing his lips to mine.
"Thank you for telling me, and I won't let you go back to that man" Race said
I smiled and pulled Race into a hug.
"it's getting late, lets get some sleep." I said
Race nodded and we headed back inside, Race laid down in his bed and I joined soon after.
~Time Skip~
Today I woke up before Race, that never happens. All the boys are starting to get up so I did the only logical thing, I shoved Race off the bed. Once he hit the floor he was wide awake. I put my shoes on before anything could process and ran. I waited for the boys and soon they started to show.
~Another time skip cause im feeling lazy~
We are all sitting around at Tibbs after decided to go on strike.
"We need to spread the word to every burrow" jack said
"I got midtown" Albert said
"I'll take the Bronx" Race said
"What about Brooklyn?" Jack said "Come on Spot Conlon turf"
No body moved, am I gonna have to go?
"Finch, tell me you ain't scared of no turf?" jack said
I ain't scared of no turf, it's just Spot Colon makes me a little nerves." Finch said while standing
"Davey, Y/N and I will go" Jack said
"What's so scary about Brooklyn?" An all familiar voice said
I tensed up which caused Race to grab my hand.
"Brooklyn is the third largest city you get Brooklyn you get the mother load" Jack said
Katherine started to look at all the boys, I can tell she is judging them. Soon she sees me, she looks shocked but doesn't say anything.
"What are you doing here, are you following me?" Jack asked
I let out a small snort as Jack said that.
"All I'm following is a story" Katherine says
"Can't you beat entertainment" Jack snapped
"This is entertaining.... so far" Katherine said
"What's the last new story you wrote" I snapped while getting up
"What's the last strike you organized" She spat getting in my face
Before I could do anything Race was pulling me away and Jack was standing in front of Katherine, Race pulled me outside and he placed his hands on my cheeks.
"What was that about? I have never seen you do that" Race said
"I'm sorry I just hate her so much." I said
"You don't hate her" Race said
All the boys started to leave Tibbs, Race kissed my forehead before following the other boys. Soon Katherine came out, she grabbed my hand and yanked me away.
"Let me go" I snapped
"Is this where you have been for the past two years? Running around with a bunch of street rats?" Katherine yelled at me
"Don't you dare yell at me! let go of me right this moment" I snapped
I yanked my hand out of her grasp and crossed my arms, Katherine looked at me and placed her hand on her hip.
"Sport" She started
"Don't, don't call me that" I said
"Why did you leave?" She asked
"You wanna know why? Because Dad was constantly telling me what to do and telling me to be like you. I couldn't take it, plus some sister you are. You barley knew I was alive, always being daddy little angle. It made me sick so I left and found a real family who takes care of me" I snapped
Tears formed in my eyes as she looked at me, I went to leave but she soon stopped me.
"And that boy, what's his name? Race" She started "You really think he won't leave you. I am your blood, your own sister. Did you not think about how much I missed you when you ran away that affected me more than when mom died."
"Bull crap, we all know it just gave you more attention from dad because look you are a reporter now. You know nothing has changed. Now if you will excuse me I am going home" I said
Before she could answer I turned around and ran back to the lodging house, tears are falling down my face.
Katherine's POV
When Y/N ran away from me I knew I had to tell Dad, I quickly got home and shut the door. My father looked at me.
"What has gotten into you girl?" He asked me
"I found Y/N" I said
"Where are they?" He asked
"With the newsies. they are one and dating one" I said
"Well then, I will handle it dear" he said
I didn't answer I just went to my room.
Y/N POV
Race found me soon after I left Katherine, he saw me crying and in one swift motion he pulled me into his arms.
"What did she do?" He asked
"It's to hard to explain" I cried
"Ok, it's okay breath" Race said rubbing my back
I don't know what happened but next thing I know I am passed out.
~Time Skip~
Time to go back to the distribution center, we are all sitting around waiting.
" Hey jack you seen Spot Colon right?" Race asked
"Yeah him and about twenty of his gang" Davey said
"And them Brooklyn boys is big" Les said
Once again I let out a snort laugh causing all of them to look at me. I go to Brooklyn so often that it doesn't even faze me about the boys. Soon we are all in the distribution center fighting off scaps and the bulls show up. Before I could run Oscar grabbed the back of my shirt and pulled me with him.
"Your father is expecting you" He said in my ear
"No, no, no. Race!" I yelled
Race turned around to see me being pulled away but before he could do anything Specs and Jojo grabbed him pulling him away. Oscar pulled me all the way to my father office, he shoved me inside to the point where I feel onto my face.
"Well hello child" My father said
"Don't call me that, how did you find me?" I asked
"Your lovely sister sold you out" He said with a smirk
"Of course she did" I mumbled
"Now I am going to set some rules, you are no longer allowed to leave the house, you have to dress like an actual person. And if you break any of these rules I will see that, that boy of yours will be punished" He said
"No, leave him alone" I yelled
My father didn't say anything Oscar grabbed me again and started to pull me.
"Take them home" My father said
Oscar pulled me away and took me to the place I never wanted to see again, once we got there he pushed me inside and that was when I broke down into tears. I pushed myself up off the floor and headed over to my "room". Nothing has changed, I went over to my closet and pulled out an outfit. I slowly changed out of my normal clothes and put on the stupid outfit. I sat on my bed just as Katherine walked in.
"You did this, you ruined my life! How could you? You said you cared about me and if you really did you wouldn't have sold me out to the monster you call a father. If I don't listen to him he will hurt the one person I cared about. Why? Why did you do this to me Katherine?" I scream and cried
"Y/N/N, I am so sorry. I just wanted you to be safe, I didn't know he was going to do this to you. I never met to hurt you. Please forgive me" Katherine said while sitting down next to me
"I forgive you just promise me something." I said
"Anything" She said while smiling
"Help my boys" I said "help them win the strike"
"I will" She said "Now lets talk. I will admit I have been a horrible big sister and I am going to change. I really can't forgive myself for everything I did to you"
I didn't say anything, I pulled Katherine into a hug. She seemed shocked put soon hugged me back.
Katherine's POV
Once Y/N was asleep I laid them on their bed and covered them up. I need to tell Race what happened, I am going to be a good be sister and do this one thing for her. I sunk out of the house and made my way to the newsie lodging house. I took a deep breath before walking inside, a few of the boys noticed me right away.
"Katherine what are you doing here?" One of the boys asked
"I need to speak to Race." I said
The boy nodded before going to get Race, once Race came into the room he saw me.
"Katherine, where's Y/N?" He asked me worried
"That's why I am here. My father told her if they left the house you would be hurt, they're scared and mad" I explained "I wanted to tell you what happened. I'm sorry too. It's my fault our father found them. We talked it out and they're not made at me. I need your help to get them out though."
Before Race could answer I grabbed his hand and started to pull him to my house. When we got there I told him the plan, I was going to get Y/N and they was going to climb down the tree by their window. Once everything was understood I ran inside and into Y/N room. I locked their door causing them to look at me.
"No time to explain but you owe me big time, now climb out your window and Race will be waiting for you. Love you. Stay safe" I said
"Thank you Katherine" She said while pulling me into a hug
Y/N POV
When I pulled away for Katherine I went over to my window.
"Thank you, I really do owe you. If you need help getting together with Jack let me know" I said
"What do you mean?" She asked
"Kath, don't lie to yourself. I see the way you look at him." I said
"Okay maybe I do like him. Don't tell him" She said
"That's your job not mine, I found my man and now my sister" I said
"Okay, now go before dad finds out that I helped you" She said
"Love you" I said
"Love you too" Katherine said
I soon was climbing out my window, as I was climbing down the tree my foot slipped causing me to fall. I didn't hit the ground because Race was there to catch me.
~Time skip to after the strike~
"Newsies of New York city. WE WON" jack yelled
Everyone started cheering and I wrapped my arms around Race and pressed a kiss onto his lips. Once Race and I pulled away I ran over to Katherine.
"You did it" I cried while wrapping my arms around her
"No we did it" She said
Jack walked over to Katherine and I and he wrapped his arms around Katherine. I am so glade everyone made up and that I am friends with my sister again. I still might be hanging with the newsies but now I have a bond with Katherine. I wouldn't want it any other way.
"You know your not that bad of a sister" I said
"You too kiddo" She answered
