Chapter 27

(Check out my new story in the external link (or under 'Works' on my page); it's Undercover Protection if you haven't already)

This chapter is dedicated for everyone who's voted/commented on this story. Thank you all so much!

For New Years, my mum let me have a group of friends over. Obviously, I chose Zach, Rebekah, Jake, Dan and Ryan. I was only choosing the few people that I had made friends with over the past months. In case that wasn't obvious enough already.

It was only going to be a small get together type of thing for the New Year, my dad was setting off fireworks and my mum was putting out some food for us.

My parents and I done this every year; celebrated New Years, the only difference this time was that I was having a some friends over to celebrate it with me. I was actually looking forward to it.

Looking in the mirror, I ruffled my hair up after I applied the last small amount of makeup. I didn’t really wear a lot. Tonight was New Years and everyone was due to arrive soon; at six pm to be exact. It was currently only quarter to six but I wanted to make sure that I had plenty of time to get ready.

I hadn’t gone all out considering it was only a small-ish get-together in my house, I’d simply put on a black dress that my mum had brought for me for Christmas. It was cute and I wanted to wear it and there wasn’t a better time than tonight.

The doorbell rang earlier than I expected it to, someone had arrived. Part of me guessed it was Zach since he was… well… Zach.

Ever since the whole issue with Mark and Paul, he'd been so nice and caring. He didn't like to leave my side. And since we'd gotten back together, he'd been treating me so good. Zach was literally the sweetest person ever.

I never mentioned Max and Paul to my mum or anyone for that matter. We watched the news and from there we found out that he had indeed been arrested so that was one less thing to worry about. Now he was out of the picture, there was no one threatening Zach so we didn't have to worry about that anymore.

My mum would only worry way more than what was necessary, I mean I would most likely be put on house arrest or something. I loved that she worried about me, I really did, it showed how much she cared but sometimes, she could go over the top.

Also, I didn't want Zach to be brought into this because it would just make him look like the bad guy when he was only involved to protect me. In all honesty, it was a sweet gesture. To some extent.

The doorbell rang again making me jump back to reality.

I ran down the stairs before mum or dad could manage to answer the door, I wanted to be the one to do it, just so I could see my friends for the first time in ages, I missed them and it'd only been a few days.

“Hi!” I grinned when I pulled the door open. Zach was stood there, a wide grin on his face. He looked breath taking.

“Hi yourself,” He grinned back leaning forward and leaving a kiss on my cheek. His hand rested on the other side of my face as his thumb slowly stroked my cheek. It was a sweet gesture. “You look so beautiful.”

I could feel the blush slowly spreading across my cheeks as he spoke those words. “T-thank you.”

Zach chuckled at my stuttering before he pulled me into a tight hug. He planted a soft kiss on my neck then pulled back, grasping my hands in his. “Aren’t you going to invite me in? It’s a lil’ bit cold.”

It was still slightly snowy outside since it was still winter. The snow wasn't as bad as what it was but underneath the snow was ice and the ice was horrific. I managed to fall every time.

Giggling, I nodded my head, pulling the door open wider for him. Zach stepped inside, kicking off his shoes whilst I shut the door behind us, keeping the heat in. He pulled off his coat and hung it up leaving him in his jeans and a smart t-shirt.

Suddenly, little footsteps could be heard from down the hall and then a little body appeared, running at us at full speed. My little brother.

“Zach!” Austin screamed running up to Zach and wrapping his arms around his legs. He almost sent Zach flying to the ground but Zach somehow managed to keep his balance.

Zach just laughed; looking up at me as he picked Austin up at threw him over his shoulder whilst making sure to keep a tight grip on him. “Hey buddy.”

“I missed you.” Austin screamed from his position on Zach’s shoulder. His hair was flopping around as he hung upside down; a massive grin was planted on his face. I loved seeing my little brother happy more than anything.

The smile on his face just showed how much he liked Zach and that made my stomach bubble with happiness. My little brother (and family for that matter) liking my boyfriend was the best feeling in the world.

“Stop screaming, you’ll give yourself a sore throat.” I chuckled, ticking his sides before heading off to where the kitchen was whilst motioning for Zach to follow me.

Zach carried Austin on his shoulders all the way to the kitchen where he then sat him down on the top of the bench. The table was full of food already which only made me want to eat it. It looked so mouth watering and delicious, not to mention it was all my favourite foods.

Mum wasn't allowing us to have alcohol though, which in a way made me happy because I didn't drink.

“When can we eat?” Austin moaned, staring longingly at the food. He moved his hand to his stomach and rubbed it showing us both that he was hungry.

“As soon as everyone arrives.” A voice from behind me answered. I turned around seeing my mum entering the kitchen alone, my dad was elsewhere.

“Where’s dad?” I asked, looking around her at the door as if checking to see if he was going to enter the room behind her.

Mum pointed to the room beside the kitchen, which happened to be the living room. “He’s still in the living room.”

The door rang again so like before I headed off to the door to answer before anyone else could.  I loved being the one to answer the door to my friends. After that point, everyone else arrived around about the same time, one after another apart from Jake and Rebekah who arrived together.

All in all, the night was good. Jake and Rebekah were officially together and they couldn’t keep away from each other. They were so loved up with each other; it was kind of adorable… in some way.

My parents didn’t really stay with us that much, they stayed together in the living room for most of the night, we stayed in the kitchen. Of course that was where the food was. We were all eating it like it was going to vanish. But it was delicious so I didn't blame anyone.

When it reached nine pm, my dad called us all to the backyard where he was going to be setting off the fireworks. We all piled into the yard, Zach wrapped his arms around my waist from behind whilst he rested his head on top of mine.

“I love fireworks,” I grinned, resting my head back on his shoulder so I could look at his face. “This is the first year I can hear them too.”

He smiled down at me, pressing a kiss onto my forehead. “I hate the noise.”

“Don’t be miserable.” I giggled turning back around and watching my dad as he lit the lighter to let off the first firework.

Jake was stood with his arms wrapped around Rebekah like Zach was with me. And then there was Dan and Ryan. They were still single so they were standing together side by side watching the fireworks. It was quite funny if I was being honest.

Austin had these little ear muffs on to help muffle the bangs made by the fireworks so that he didn’t get that much of a fright. He was only little after all.

The fireworks that dad had were amazing. I was surprised considering what the normal shop bought fireworks were like.

“They’re so beautiful.” I gasped watching as one exploded in the air, gold and red sparks going everywhere.

“Not as beautiful as you.” Zach whispered in my ear.

I gasped turning around so I was facing him full on. I then smacked up side his head. “That was so cheesy!”

He smirked, lifting his hand and patting my cheek gently. “I kinda mean it. Just not in a cheesy way.”

“Then I guess I should say thank you…”

“You should. I’m complementing you after all.” He chuckled before grabbing my hips in his hands and turning me back around so I was facing the fireworks once again.

“You know,” I whispered tilting my head back. “You can complement me without comparing me to a firework. It’s the cheesiest line ever.”

He chuckled, squeezing his arms that were wrapped around my waist tighter. “I’ll remember that for next time.”

“You better.”

The TV was on ready for the huge fire display that was shown on the News Channel. We were waiting for the countdown to start so that we could countdown with it and enter the New Year.

Like before, my parents weren’t with us right now. They didn’t want to sit in a room with teenagers, according to them it ‘wasn’t right’. I was happy for the way they were thinking. Austin was in bed considering he was only little, he wouldn’t understand the concept and he had  a routine that needed to be kept.

“Hey! They’re counting down now!” Ryan shouted pointing to the TV where surely enough the countdown from one minute had begun.

We all gathered together, as before Zach was stood with me only this time with one arm wrapped around my waist. Once it got to five seconds, we all began to countdown.

“5!”

“4!”

“3!”

“2!”

“1!”

“Happy New Year!” We all shouted together.

Zach spun me around and leant me back before he pressed his lips firmly against mine.

“Happy New Year, baby.” He chuckled before kissing me again then pulling me back up so I was standing straight.

“Happy New Year.” I grinned, wrapping my arms around his neck and squeezing him tight.

Zach repeated the same, squeezing my waist and burying his head into my hair. “Let’s make this a good year.” He whispered.

“I love you.” I breathed out, sighing in content. I was so happy.

“Are you sure?” He mumbled. Zach still managed to sound unsure no matter how many times I told him.

I pulled back from him, still keeping my arms wrapped around his neck.

Read my lips; I love you.”
