Bakugou lay on the ground, terrifyingly still. All he could hear was his own breathing and rapid heartbeat. No.
He gulped, lifting his head slightly with shaky breaths. No.
Bakugou pushed himself up onto his knees, terrified. No.
His face twisted into one of horror and shock, hand instinctively flying to his mouth as bile rose in his throat. No. No. No. No. No. No.
Muffled voices shouted around him, but Bakugou paid them no mind.
He quickly pushed himself off the ground, racing towards Izuku's body. As he stood, he tripped over his own foot, landing on his stomach.
Desperate, Bakugou clawed at the ground, pushing himself forwards and scratching his skin on the asphalt below. "I...Izuku," he gasped, the wind knocked out of him.
Finally reaching the boy, his heart plummeted as he saw a growing splotch of red on his shirt, pooling on the ground beneath him.
Izuku smiled faintly at Bakugou, eyes dulling. Bakugou grabbed his hand, squeezing it tightly as his skin became cold.
"I'm sorry," Bakugou sobbed, tears streaming down his face. "It's all my fault. I'm sorry."
Izuku placed his other hand on Bakugou's chest, causing the blonde to stare tearfully.
"I'm not mad anymore, Kacchan," Izuku said, voice barely a whisper.
"No, no, stop talking," Bakugou shushed, "I'll get you to a doctor, I swear-"
Izuku shook his head, smiling. "You know it's too late for that, Kacchan. It's fine. At least I got to see you how you are now, right?" he whispered.
"Please, Izuku," Bakugou said through tears, "Don't leave me. Not now."
Izuku smiled. "Thank you," he said, hand falling limp.
Bakugou's eyes widened, heart racing. "No. No. No. No," he panicked. Turning around, Bakugou stared at his friends. "Guys, guys, help, please!" he cried.
They each stared at him in a stunned silence, a mixture of emotions transforming their expressions.
"COME ON, GUYS!" Bakugou shouted. "COME HELP ME!" his voice became desperate after they didn't move. "Please..."
Bakugou choked back sobs, turning back towards Izuku. His hands were cold and eyes glazed over.
Hysterical, Bakugou buried his head into Izuku's chest, no sign of a heartbeat. "Why...," he whispered faintly. "Why did it have to be you...?"
Suddenly, his shoulders tensed. Raising his body, he turned to see Kirishima placing his hand on his shoulder.
"K-Kirishima," Bakugou said. He grabbed the redhead's hand, begging for him to help. "Please, Kirishima, do something. Save him...!"
Kirishima's expression showed clear horror, but he attempted to be strong for his friend. "I...," he said, throat dry. "You have to let him go."
Bakugou stared at him for a moment, his eyes dull and lips parted. After a moment, however, his eyebrows furrowed and he shoved Kirishima backwards. The redhead stumbled falling onto the ground.
Bakugou breathed heavily, staring at Kirishima's hurt expression. However, he turned back towards Izuku, his sadness returning.
Unable to deal with his emotions, he grabbed Izuku by the collar, shouting for him to come back. "DON'T LEAVE ME, YOU NERD! PLEASE. PLEASE!" he sobbed, "Please..."
Though, once again, he was interrupted. He felt another hand be placed on his shoulder and, without thinking, he smacked it away. Suddenly, though, he was heaved upwards violently, ripped away from his dead friend.
"NO!" he shouted, scrambling to escape. He glanced back, seeing as Aizawa held him. He kicked, still not fully off the ground. "LET ME GO! GIVE HIM BACK! GIVE HIM BACK TO ME!"
He broke down into a mass of sobs, letting out a loud, guttural scream that pierced the air. Pure anguish erupted from the base of his stomach as he fell onto his knees until his throat became raw and unable to produce such sounds.
"Izuku...," he whispered. "Why'd you have to leave me...?"
And, for a moment, Bakugou could've sworn he'd seen the boy smile.
And, for a moment, the world around him stopped.
And for a moment, he spoke.
"Hey, Kacchan," Izuku smiled. "You better become the world's greatest hero, kay?"
And for a moment, Bakugou felt as if everything might be okay.
