Y/N POV
Today is like any other day pull my hair back, act like a guy, and repeat. No one knows I'm a girl except my two best friends Mike and Ike. They found out by accident.
~Flashback~
I was running from Oscar and Morris Delaney, I ended up taking a wrong turn and was trapped at a dead end.
"Crap" I whispered
"Looks like little Pigeon here is trapped with no where to go" Morris said
"Don't call me Pigeon, rat face" I snapped
Morris lunged at me and grabbed my shirt, Oscar grabbed me from behind. Oscar held me in place while Morris took punches at my face. I know I stand no chance, Oscar shoved me down to the ground in that process my hat fell down and my long locks feel down in front of my face.
"Well lookie here Morris. It seems that Pigeon here is nothing but a dumb goil" Oscar said
"Don't call me that" I snapped again
":Say what do they do to little goil on the streets?" Morris asked
"Well we send then to an orphange" Oscar said
"NO!"I yelled
I went to go run but they both grabbed me.
"Let go of me, Help" I yelled
"Ain't no one gonna save you" Morris snapped while pulling my hair
Just then I saw Mike and Ike walking near, I could the chance to let out a scream. With my scream they towards me, Oscar and Morris ran away and Mike and Ike looked at me.
"Take a picture it was last long" I snapped
"You're a goil" Mike said
"Ya, what about it. Listen don't tell anyone I can't afford to get sent to an orphanage, my brother would kill me." I said
They both nodded there head at me.
~End of Flashback~
A few months later and they kept my secret, I've became closer to them. Once and I while I head to Brooklyn to visit my bother Spot. Now I should probably explain one thing and that's my Newsie name, they call me pigeon because I'm a quiet person and they met me I wasn't the brightest. I woke up before everyone else and went into the bathroom, I started to tuck my hair into my hat when the door opened.
"Mike don't do that to me, I thought it was Jack or someone else" I said
"Sorry but I wanted to talk to you" Mike said "Look Y/N I really like you and I wanna be with you but I-"
I cut off Mike with a kiss, he was blushing bright red.
"I like you too but we have to keep our relationship a secret for now" I said
Mike nodded before walking out of the bathroom. I finished doing my hair and walked out of the bathroom as the other boys were getting up. After ever was ready we hit the streets, when we got to the distabution center we were all waiting for them to put up the headline,
"Man them sirens kept me awake a night" Race said
"Sirens are like lulibies to me, the louder they hwal the better the headline, the better I eat, the better I eat-"
"The further away from you I sleep" Race snapped
I let out a quite chuckle. Just then Davey and his little bother Les came running in, Les came over to me and I gave him a hug.
"New newsies price 60 cent per hundred" Specs yelled
"Is that news" Davey asked
"It is to me" race said
"I can live two days off a dime" Finch said
"I'll be livin' on the streets" Crutchie said
"You already live on the streets" I said
"In a worse neighbourhood" Crutchie said
I walked over to Mike and Ike, Mike put his arm around me as we waited for Jack to tell us what we were going to do.
"Jack, we can't go on strike we don't have a union" Davey said
"Well what if I says we is" Jack snapped back at Davey
"Strike" We all yelled
"You heard them, Manhattan newises are offically on stike" Jack said
We all left the distrabution center and headed back to the lodging house we all sat on our beds waiting for our next plan?
"Where did Jack go" I asked
"Talking to a goil, who is a reporter and she thinks she can put us on the front page" Specs said
I nodded my head and headed to the fire escape and soon after Mike came out. Mike sat down next to me.
"Hey Y/N" Mike said
"Hey Mike" I said
I laid my head on his shoulder and smiled, he wrapped his arm around me pulling me closer to him.
"Do you think the boys will kick me out if they found out the truth?" I asked
"No" Mike said
I looked down at the streets below, and then at Mike.
"I'm gonna go to Mid-town" I said " I wanna see Red"
Red is the leader Mid-town and my best friend. I started to walk to Mid-town when I was yanked into an alley. I looked to find a drunk. Fun. I punched to drunk in the face and turned around heading back to Manhattan. I'm not dealing with this crap today, when I got back to the lodging house Jack we talking to the boys.
I sat down next Race and and I started to play with my suspenders.
"Pigeon, are yous with us?" Jack asked
"What? Ya" I told Jack
~TIME SKIP~
I all stood around the distabution center ready to take things into our own hands. We got inside to see scabs, Jack and Davey did a little bit of persading to get them to join us.
"Hey, at the end of the day who are you gonna trust? Them? or them?" A scab said
He walked up beside me and the other guy tried to walk pass us but I stood in front of him.
"Ah what the hell, my fathers gonna kill me anyways" The boys said while slaming his papes down
We started to throw papes when few scabs showed up, we started to fight and a few minutes later the bulls showed up.
"Its about time you showed they're sludering us" Romeo said
Snyder slapped Romeo across the face then all hell broke lose. I ended up fighting some scab when he pushed me down and my hat went flying off, my braides fell down and I could feel everyone looking at me. I felt a hand pull me up and I came face to Snyder himself.
"Well looks like we have a little girl here. You will be fun to break, lets send you to an orpanage." Snyder said
"No" I said
I was trying to get out of his grip but he hit me upside the head and everything went black.
Mikes POV
I tried to save her but Ike was holding me back, all the boys seemed shocked that pigeon is a goil. After everything calmed down we all headed back to the lodging house. I went straight to my bed and laid down, I don't know how I let that happen to her.
"You okay Mike" Ike asked
"Where did they send her?" I asked
"There are some guys lookin' for her, don't worry we'll find her and bring her back." Ike said
I nodded my head.
Y/N POV
They shoved me into a room a few other goils, as soon as the door shut I kicked it and started swearing.
"How can you talk like that" A girl asked
"Well I'm a newsie so I'm with a lot of guys" I snapped
I looked around and the window had bars on it so we couldn't escape the building. I sat down on the bed trying to think of a plan. I kicked the bed and noticed the other girls were looking at me.
"What?" I snapped
"Are you okay?" A little girl asked
"No, I'm not okay. My boys need me and I got dragged her, I need to get out of here." I snapped
I pulled my hair out in frustration and through my hat across the room. Another girl in the room went to pick it up hen they stopped.
"The basement, it has a window that's always unlocked but the only way you can get down there is by doing something really bad." She said
"Perfect" I said "What do I need to do?"
"Well find a way to the Ms. mad" She said
"Easy" I said
I sat in the room till Ms. came and got us for dinner, I sat down at the table and crossed my arms. Ms, gave us all food and I sat there.
"Girl you better eat, and stop slouching" She said
"Why should I" I snapped "You're the lady who looks like an actual pig"
She looked at me and frowned
"You're new here so I don't think you know the rules yet. You don't back talk me, I'm the boss." She said
I stood up and crossed my arms.
"Well I don't think you know me. Where I come from I'm the boss. I don't take orders from people like you. Actually last time I checked you aren't my boss I don't have to listen to you" I said
She slammed her hand on the table and she grabbed my hair, she pulled me down to the basement and slammed the door shut. I looked around till I found the window in the basement. I walked over to it and pushed it opened,it was a bit of a tight fit but I made it through. As soon as I knew I was out I made a run for it, I ran all the way to the lodging house. I opened to door and ran straight into Mikes arms.
"Y/N?" He asked in shock
"Mike" I cried
"Your here, your safe" Mike said
"Mike, shut up and kiss me" I said
Mike pressed his lips onto mine and around us I could hear the boys cheering for us.
"I'm so happy you're safe" Mike said
He pressed our lips together again and I know I won't ever leave this boy
