-Brianna's POV-

It was finally Friday and I entered the school in a happy mood due to the fact it was sunny and the end of the week.  I probably looked weird since it was still early in the morning and I had a smile on my face, but I didn't care at the moment.  I even noticed Brook and Claire glancing my way!

"Well, what's got you in a happy mood?"  Sophie asked, smiling as I approached her and Ally.

"It's sunny, it's Friday, and I'm actually looking forward to being dragged to my brother's gig tonight!"  I replied once I reached them.

"You're excited to go to some concert?"  Ally raised an eyebrow, doubtful of me.

"Yeah!  I mean, usually they play the same old stuff but they're actually playing a new song today!"  I explained, probably not helping my case since both of them weren't really into the whole "band" thing.  Especially Ally who thought it was a waste of time.

"Are you doing okay?  I mean, the next thing you'll tell me is that you won't do homework until after the show," Ally joked, though she might actually be right.  I might not have too much time to do homework before their gig.

Sophie shook her head at Ally but chuckled at her joke.  "Well I think it's great that you're excited to watch your brother.  Sister support, I call it," Sophie said.  She had an older brother too, he was just in college right now.  He was studying to become a lawyer at the moment, which meant he was smart and like she is.  It might be part of her motivation.

"Whatever you call it, it's different than normal," Ally concluded.  She was an only child and didn't get the whole "supporting a sibling" concept.

        "Hey, Brianna."

I turned around and came face to face with Drew.  I raised my eyebrows, surprised that someone, especially as attractive as Drew, was talking to me.  "Uh, hi."

"You're in my math class, right?" he asked.  I nodded, understanding why he was talking to me now.  Something to do with homework or what we're doing in class.  "I thought so.  You're pretty quiet so I wasn't sure, but we should talk sometime.  Maybe we can talk more in math?"

Now I was back to being shocked.  "Y-yeah.  Sure!"  I agreed.

He smiled.  "Cool, see you in math," he said before walking away.

I slowly turned around to face my friends once again.  Both of them had their jaws dropped, as did I.  "Did that just happen?"  I asked blankly.

Sophie quickly nodded.  "Yes!  Oh my gosh!  Do you think he likes you?  Have you talked before?  What is going on?!" she blurted question after question.

"I don't know, do you think anything could happen?"  I asked hopefully.

"Okay guys, let's just go through what happened," Ally stepped in.  "Drew Reedman, the most popular and cutest guy in school, just approached Brianna, one of the smartest and quietest girls in the school.  Not only did he approach her, but said they should talk," she basically summed it up, shaking her head.  "It can't be possible!  Not to be mean, but guys like him don't like girls like us."

"You never know, Ally!  I mean, he literally just walked up to me out of nowhere!" I pointed out.

"He's just out of our league!  He's popular, good looking, athletic, and everything else we're not!  It couldn't happen, and I don't want you getting your hopes up just to get hurt," Ally explained, being "logical".  "Like I said, I'm not trying to be mean, just realistic."

I looked down, understanding where she was coming from.  It's just nice to think about someone actually being attracted to me, especially when that someone is a person like Drew.  The bell rang and I went off to class, silent the rest of the time.

By the time English came, my mood was brought back up.  Drew actually did talk to me in math believe it or not.  I still wasn't sure why, but I decided I'd just go with it.

I sat down in my usual seat and waited for the bell to ring and Mrs. Gregory to start talking.  Luke was late like always, but not to the point that Mrs. Gregory would give him detention.

"Okay, I've gone through everyone's poems and let me say how proud I am!  For the first actual assignment and doing it with someone who may be a stranger or someone you don't exactly get along with..." she trailed off, her eyes going from me to Luke before continuing.  "You all did pretty well!  So, I'll explain the next assignment as I pass back your graded poems," she finished, walking around the room and handing out the poems like she said.

I honestly loved Luke and I's poem, but I was a bit nervous to get it back.  It was so last minute that I didn't feel confident in it like I did with my other assignments in school.

"So, for your next assignment you will be writing another poem.  It will have the same guidelines as the last one, but I really want to challenge your creative abilities.  So, you and your partner have to write about the opposite of your last poem!" she announced, some kids groaning.  "So, if you wrote about light, write about dark.  If you wrote about summer, write about winter.  If you wrote about nature, write about humans.  Get it?  Good, it's due next Friday."

I sighed, nodding casually as she handed back mine and Luke's poem.  I smiled at the big "A" written on the top.  My reputation of good grades remains.  I stood up and walked over to Luke, putting the paper on his desk.  He stared down at it.

"First A you've ever gotten?"  I questioned, sitting in the now empty desk beside him.

He scoffed.  "No.  I told you before, I'm actually good with poetry."

I rolled my eyes.  "Well, since you're so good, let's hear about our next poem."

"Well, what's our topic?  We wrote about heartbreak, and the opposite of heartbreak is..." Luke stopped once he thought about it.

My expression changed as well and my eyes traveled to the floor.  "Love," I finished softly.  Luke let out a breath, obviously not liking our new topic.  "This is why we should've gone with my original idea of happiness for the first poem, because then we'd be writing about sadness and not love," I said.

"Like either of us knew we would have to write about the opposite of our first poem!"  Luke snapped.

"I'm just saying!"  I defended myself.  We both sat there in silence as the rest of the class talked about their own poems.  How was I supposed to write love poem with someone I hate?

"Can we at least agree it won't be all mushy-gushy?" Luke spoke up.

I nodded.  "Yeah.  Let's just write about something simple, not too emotional," I agreed.

"Okay, at least we agree on that," he said as the bell rang.  We both stood up and started walking towards the door.

"Should we start working on it when you guys come to my house?  I know you have the gig but it's not until later and I really think we should work on it as soon as possible," I explained, walking with Luke out of the classroom.

"Do we really have to work on it today?  It's not due until next Friday, we have time," he reminded me.

I shook my head.  "We can't procrastinate, Luke!  Remember how last minute our last poem was?"

"The poem we got an A on?"

"I don't like waiting until the last minute to do things.  I want it done before next Friday!"

        "C'mon, Brie!"

"Don't call me that!"  I warned, not feeling it.  "Can we just work until we get an idea for our poem before your performance?"  I tried compromising.

He sighed.  "Fine, but I won't work any..."

"Brianna!" Luke was cut off by Drew walking over to us, or me.

I smiled at him.  "Hey, Drew!"

"It was great talking to you in math today!  I forgot something though," he pulled out his phone and held it out to me.  "I need your number."

I raised my eyebrows.  This boy was just full of surprises today.  "Oh!  Okay," I agreed, taking his phone and putting my number in before giving it back.

"Thanks, I'll text you this weekend so we can hang," he said and walked away.  I watched as Drew walked off to his friends, finding myself smiling.

"What was that?"  I turned, completely forgetting Luke was standing there.  He had his eyebrows furrowed, looking at Drew and obviously annoyed that he was cut off.

"What do you mean?  He just asked me for my number," I played it of coolly, giving a little shrug.

"Exactly!" he replied, still watching Drew with the same expression.

I scoffed.  "Well if you must know, it's called kindness!  You should try it sometime, Luke!"  I snapped before walking away from him.  I thought writing a poem in general with him would be hard, but a love poem?  How in the world is that possible?!
