Song Above: So High Fredo

If you like this story then please check out my new story Me You And Winnie The Pooh! It needs all the love it can get! 😊🐻🍯

"What are you doing here?" I hissed quickly flickering my eyes to the front door hoping Ryan didn't see. I wrapped my arms around myself and stepped out onto the lawn.

"Nice Pyjamas," Brody smirked his eyes raking in my appearance. I felt my stomach flutter and I internally scolded myself.

Don't let him get to you. Don't let him get to you. I chanted over and over again in my head hoping it would stick.

I was growing tired of his hot and cold act. He can't pretend that one minute we are somewhat friends and the next he hates me. I don't need that drama in my life.

"I'd never expected Disney though, didn't take you for a Disney kind of girl,"

"And what kind of girl did you take me for?" I cocked a brow.

He shrugged his shoulders, "That I'm not too sure about yet,"

We both stared at each other in silence. His eyes scanning my features in a way that made my head hurt. He shouldn't be looking at me like that. He shouldn't be looking at me at all.

"Seriously Brody, what are you doing here?"

"I came to see-"

"Brody, what are you doing here?"

We both span our heads round to find Ryan stood at my door, his eyebrow raised and his eyes flickering between us. I wanted to facepalm at how surreal this moment was.

"I came for you Ryan, I figured you'd be here, didn't you see my call?"

Ryan reached into his pocket and looked at his phone his brows drawing together, "I haven't got any missed calls?"

"Oh that's weird," Brody awkwardly scratched at the back of his head and I wished I could teleport. Anywhere would be better than standing here.

"Is everything okay?" Ryan asked.

"Yeah everything's fine," Brody shifted his feet and even he looked uncomfortable which is a first.

"What made you come all this way then?" I didn't like the possessive tone in Ryan's voice. I understood he felt threatened by Brody, most people did but he didn't need to feel threatened over me.

We weren't together and even if we were he's related to Brody, given not by blood but still he didn't need to be standoffish.

"Just didn't know where you were at, your moms cooking a big dinner today because of Dad's deal, a celebration as she calls it," he rolled his eyes at the last bit.

"So you decided to come to find me rather than call?" Ryan faces scrunched up in confusion. Even I was confused. I couldn't see his car, which meant he had walked. Our school was a good fifteen/twenty-minute journey on foot. For me, it was about half an hour but only because of my pace resembled's a snail.

Why had Brody walked all the way to my house to tell Ryan dinners at home? There had to be more to it.

"I did call you, but maybe your phones broke or something," Brody groaned gesturing to the iPhone X that was in perfectly good condition in Ryan's hand.

Yeah, I'm sure his phones broken.

"Well, Ryan is here, so you can go now," I didn't mean to sound so abrupt but I was on edge whenever Brody was around.

I was also still mad at his behaviour last night. It was uncalled for and how dare he think he could stand on my property with his fat head weighing down the grass.

His eyes widened and even Ryan was taken back.

"I mean- um, yeah I guess," He stammered and I couldn't help but regret the way I had responded. I stared at his face, the way his lips curled downwards and the way his eyes were darker than usual made the realisation dawned on me.

"Ryan, would you mind picking a movie? I'll be a second," I said without moving my eyes from Brody's face.

"Sure," I tried to ignore the suspicion in Ryan's tone and as soon as I heard his feet turn the corner I let rip.

"Now honest to god Brody, what the hell are you doing here? Cus it sure as hell isn't because your stepmoms made lamb pot roast,"

"Our stepmoms don't like lamb so probably would-"

"Just shut up," I sighed, "Will you care to enlighten me as to why you're here?"

"A truce,"

I blinked and I blinked again. I waited for a couple of seconds analyzing his face to see a trace of a joke but by the look of his intense stare, he wasn't joking.

"A truce?" I repeated.

"A truce,"

"Yeah I got that bit but a truce to what?" I crossed my arm over my chest and waited.

This would be interesting.

He let out a sigh and ran a hand through his hair, for a split second I remembered how it felt to do that, how soft it was on my skin and I scolded myself.

"There's no way we can avoid each other-"

"Well no shit Sherlock," I scoffed pausing when he gave me a look.

"As I was saying," He sighed, "There's no way we can avoid each other, I'm dating your friend and you are dating my brother,"

"What?" My eyes widened.

Even though Ryan asked me out for dinner and turned up at my house unexpectedly didn't mean we were dating. Okay, maybe that sounded like we were dating a little bit but still.

"Don't play dumb, you don't think I know," He said impatiently and a part me hoped it was for a certain reason.

Was there a chance at all that he would be jealous?

I scanned his features, his jaw, his cheeks, the thickness of his brows which were scrunched together.

Was I searching for something that would never be there?

I couldn't help the sinking feeling in my stomach at the thought. I clutched my arms tighter around me, subconscious protection. If you'd told me before that I'd be one of the many girls pining over Brody I'd have laughed in your face.

Bigger fool me.

"I'm not dating Ryan," I hated that part of me wanted to reassure him, even though he didn't care.

"So he didn't kiss you yesterday?"

"On the cheek," I rolled my eyes. It wasn't a steamy make-out session. It's more like how you'd greet your grandma.

"From where I sat it looked like more than a kiss on the cheek,"

"Well unless you had binoculars, I'm not sure what you saw was accurate,"

"Well it doesn't matter anyway," He mumbled, "I came to say regardless of our differences we should at least try to be civil,"

I wanted to laugh at the irony. If there was anyone uncivil out of the two of us it would be him. Did he really walk all this way to tell me this?

I shrugged my shoulders "I don't have a problem with that,"

I did have a problem with it. I had a problem with his way of insinuating I needed to chill out. He didn't have to say those exact words but it was obvious.

We hated each other, slept together and hated each other again. Staring at him at this moment I just realized there was no point in our pointless bickers. I was always left with an ache in my head and an ache in my chest.

I couldn't do it anymore.

Like he said he's dating my friend and I needed to be respectful of her relationship regardless of who it is with. If I drilled that into my head I was hoping I'd finally listen.

"Well that's good then," He seemed suspicious of me. As if I was going to pull out a gun and shoot him point-blank. The thought had occurred to trust me.

"Well that is settled, can I go back inside now?" I gestured to the front door and his eyes followed. He paused for a second, his face an expression I couldn't decipher.

His eyes fell back onto me and I wanted to shrink away at the intensity, "Just another question?"

"Sure," I gulped, the sight of his chocolate brown eyes warming making my stomach flip.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine?" I questioned, confused as to why he'd asked me. I know I didn't look my best in a messy bun and Disney Pyjamas but I hoped my appearance didn't scream mental breakdown.

Why was it whenever I wore no makeup and didn't do my hair everyone assumed I was sick?

Was I really that ugly?

"You weren't at school today, I figured something must be wrong,"

"I just wasn't feeling great," I lied and hoped he couldn't tell.

"Oh I see," he nodded slowly whilst soaking in my words. If he knew I was lying he didn't say anything and I really appreciated it.

We were silent for a couple of minutes and I peeked up to see him staring at me. I watched as he reached into his back pocket and pulled out a little red packet.

"I thought you might like these," He passed the skittles to me and I couldn't help but smile.

"Thank you,"  I really didn't know what else to say. I couldn't believe he'd been thoughtful enough to bring me them. Maybe he did genuinely want to try and be civil and this was his way of showing it.

"It's no big deal," He shrugged carelessly, "I better head off, I bet Ryan's waiting for you," An emotion flashed through his eyes as he stared back at my house before he glanced back at me.

"I'll see you around," I mumbled holding the skittles tightly in my hand. The packet was still warm from where they were in his pocket.

And with that, he turned on his heel and made his way down my driveway.

I watched his retreating frame. Focusing on the way his long slender legs took big strides with each step and the way his hair stayed perfectly on his head regardless of the wind.

With that imagine I walked back into my house and closed the front door. I leant against the frame and took a deep breath.
