Chapter 37 - Action
Rick Castle's POV
"So, wait a minute, you two are spies?" Laila asked and we could all hear the shock she felt in her voice.
"And you were ordered to kill each other?" Dalia said with the same shock.
"But you fell in love instead and decided to run away?" Viola added and I could sense some kind of 'awe' in her voice besides from the same shock.
Together we tried to explain everything, or at least the things we felt they needed to know. They all looked at us with shocked faces and gaping mouths. Before we'd finally sat down to tell them we had made sure Burke wouldn't be able to escape, or talk. We'd tied him to a chair in the basement and put duc tape on his mouth.
"Yeah, that's pretty much it" Kate said and I looked at her.
Kate probably felt my gaze and looked at me, our eyes meeting.
"Do you have cool toys?" Jack asked excitedly and I couldn't help but chuckle.
"Some yeah, of course, what would else be the good with being a spy" Kate said with a cute, small cocky smile.
"What happens now? We can't have that man in our basement" Robert said and we turned back into serious mode.
I thought for a minute and then cleared my throat.
"We could drop him off at the police station on our way to the airport. We tell them he's a traitor and that they shouldn't believe any word he's saying" I said looking at Kate.
She nodded before she added "and to be sure being listened to we show them our ID and we take everything on Burke indicating he's a spy too".
I nodded in agreement, Viola excused her and we looked at her.
"What do you mean by when you're on the way to the airport? Aren't you staying? I mean, are you going back there?" she asked and I recognized worry in her voice.
"We have no other choice, we have to take out our bosses, they need to be stopped. I can't believe they've done that much horrible things with their power" Kate said and Dalia raised her hand as if we were in a class room.
I nodded to her and she asked her question.
"What did they do?"
I looked at Kate, unsure if she would be able to answer it, if we should answer it or not. She looked at me and gave me a reassuring smile before she turned to the group of people in front of us.
"They sold guns to enemy countries and organisations, when my mom walked in on them and refused to keep quiet they..." I saw her hesitating and put my arm around her waist, giving her the comfort she needed. "They killed her and wrote it off as if she was killed in a mission."
I could hear the lump she had in her throat. I knew I wouldn't be able to keep her from getting tears in her eyes, but I wouldn't let that stop me from trying to prevent them from falling. I kissed the top of her head and she leaned into me, embracing the comfort. When I looked at our company they were quiet and I could see in some of their eyes that they felt a little uncomfortable with the scene in front of them.
"Maybe we should get going" I said and Kate nodded breaking out from my arms.
"Is it okay if we let Burke stay downstairs until we have gathered our stuff in our house? We promise to be back to get him" Kate asked and Viola looked at Robert.
"Of course, just, please, hurry" Robert said and we nodded before making our way to the door.
We got outside and we half jogged to our house. Once we got inside we both headed for our guns.
"What do we need?" Kate asked and I opened the hiddened door.
"I'm going to get the laptop, I think we might need that" I said.
"I'm going up and get some of our clothes!" I heard her shout back while she disappeared up the stairs.
I walked down the stairs and took the laptop. I put it inside a bag and almost forgot the charger. I put everything we needed in the bag and I put some of the food in the bad as well. Then when I was done I walked up the stairs again and met Kate in the hall.
"What is our plan exactly?" Kate asked me.
I shrugged my shoulders. Not really knowing what to say but deciding to tell the truth.
"To be honest, I'm not sure" I answered and when I looked into her eyes I could see the fear she tried to hide.
I took her hand in mine and pulled her closer to me.
"Hey" I paused. "Don't worry, we'll get through this" I said and our eyes locked.
I drowned looking down into her hazel eyes. I leaned down and kissed her lips. Before I pulled away I pecked them and we got to work. We walked out of the house and I couldn't help but stop at the end of the yard and look back at the house. We hadn't been here for long but I would miss it. It could have been the perfect house for me and Kate, maybe even Alexis would've liked it.
"Maybe we'll come here again, once we're safe enough to have a normal life" Kate said and I looked at her.
She was also eyeing the house. I looked at it again and sighed.
"Yeah, hopefully" I said and I felt her hand sneak into mine, squeezing it softly.
We stood like that for a few more seconds before we turned to each other.
"Let's go, put Burke behind bars and go back to US" Kate said and I smiled down at her.
"And put your mother's killers behind justice" I added and a fading smile traced her lips.
"Here we go" we said at the same time and turned away from our safe house.
