Today was the day, our first official date. I knew we weren't technically a couple because she was married, but I was happy. She made me happy.

Emma just finished up my hair when my phone started ringing.

"Hey, Jane." I answered with a smile.

   "Hey yourself. You almost ready?"

I glanced at Emma through the mirror. "I don't know, am I almost ready, Emma?"

She smiled and took a step back. "I'd say so."

   I laughed.

"So, what's the verdict?" Jane asked.

"I'll be at your place in a few."

  "Sounds good. I can't wait."

   I smiled. "Me neither."

After saying our long goodbyes, I followed Emma out to her car and got into the passengers seat.

"You gonna come in to say hi?" I asked.

She seemed to contemplate it for a second.

   "Pretty please?"

   She smiled and nodded. "Fine."

I threw my arms up in victory. "Yes."

She laughed as she started the car and headed for Janes house.

When we got there, Emma followed me to the front door. I was nervous and I didn't really know why.

'Maybe because it's your first real date like ever!' I thought.

Emma knocked, pulling me from my thoughts. Then, the door opened and Janes beautiful face greeted us with a smile.

"C'mon in, guys." She said, holding the door open for us.

We walked in and Jane greeted me personally with a lingering kiss.

Emma cleared her throat, breaking up our moment.

We giggled as we looked at each other. Then, I turned to Emma. "Jane, you remember Emma."

Jane smiled. "Of course, it's great to see you again."

Emma smiled back and shook her hand, then she spoke. "So, where are you taking her?"

Jane glanced at me. "Well, it wouldn't be much of a surprise if I told you."

Emma sighed. "Fine, when will you have her back?"

Before Jane could answer, I walked in front of Emma. "Relax, I'm an adult and you're way to young to be my mother." I whispered.

She sighed again before smiling. "You're right, I'm sorry."

I pulled her into a quick hug before turning back to Jane. "You ready?"

She stuck her arm out and I linked mine with hers.

Emma followed us out and made her way to her own car.

"I'll text you when we're back." I said.

Emma gave me a thumbs up before getting into her car and driving off.

Jane ran over and got my door for me.

I smiled. "Thanks."

She smiled back. "Anytime."

After I was in, Jane joined me and started the car.

"So, you really aren't gonna tell me?" I questioned.

She shook her head.

I folded my arms over my chest and faked a pout but, Jane saw right through me. "Sorry, that's not gonna work on me." She said with a laugh.

I dropped my arms in defeat. "Fine, you win."

After a short car ride, we pulled into the parking lot of an ice cream shop.

Jane got out and opened my door for me.

   "Ice cream?" I questioned.

"Not just any ice cream, the best ice cream on the planet."

I laughed a little. "I'll be the judge of that."

She laughed before taking my hand and leading me into the building.

After ordering a big sundae to share, we grabbed a booth in the back.

I closed my eyes and groaned in approval.

   "Like it?"

   I nodded, eyes still closed.

   She giggled. "I told you."

I opened my eyes and smiled at her. "I'll never question you again."

She smiled back before returning to her side of the sundae.

After finishing it, we decided to stay for a little while and enjoy the vintage-style bar interior.

"So, I have some good news." She said.

   "Lay it on me."

She looked down and smiled. "I got a job, like a good job."

I took her hand from across the table. "Like good enough to pay for your own place?"

She nodded, her smile growing a little wider.

"So, what does this mean for us?"

She squeezed my hand. "Well, once I move out, I'll get the divorce. Then, we won't have to hide our feelings."

I smiled at her words. Not only has this been the best date of my life, but her good news really added to it.

We stared into each others eyes for what seemed like hours until she started leaning in. I met her halfway for a lingering kiss.

When we pulled apart, we both wore matching grins.

Then, a song started playing from the jukebox in the back.

She glanced back at it before looking at me again. "Wanna dance?"

   I raised an eyebrow. "Here?"

She nodded before getting out of her seat and leading me with her.

I laughed as she spun me a few times before pulling me into her. We swayed together to the music, neither one of us caring about the looks we were getting. Honestly, it didn't matter, in this moment, all I could think about was Jane. The way her face seemed to light up when I was around, or that contagious laugh of hers, even the way she smiled was enough to make me fall harder for her.

I knew it was to early to tell her and I wasn't sure if she even felt the same way, but that didn't matter right now because I was perfectly happy just being with her. The love stuff could wait for another time.

After our little dance, we decided to head home. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face the whole ride back. Tonight had been perfect and nothing would change my mind about that.

Well, that was until we saw her husbands car in the driveway. She came to a stop a few houses down from hers.

"Shit, he wasn't supposed to be home tonight."

"It's ok, I'll just get out here." I said, a little disappointed I couldn't spend some more time with Jane, but I understood.

She gave me a sad smile. "Sorry, I'll make it up to you next time."

   I smiled back. "It's a date."

She leaned in for a quick kiss before I got out of the car. "I'll text you."

She nodded before saying her goodbyes, then she drove off.

I decided to walk down a little further before calling Emma for a ride.

Just as I was about to turn the corner, I heard a voice call out. "Hey, you!"

I stopped dead before slowly turning around, coming face to face with Janes step daughter.

'Shit, just run. She doesn't know you, you can still make your escape.' I thought to myself, panicking slightly.

My panicking got worse when she spoke up again. "This is second time I've seen you here."

'Dammit, she recognized me. You should've ran when you had the chance.'

I decided to play dumb. "I'm sorry, miss, but you must have me confused for someone else."

She folded her arms over her chest. "Maybe, maybe not, but I'll be keeping an eye out for you." She said before turning on her heel and walking off.

I released a breath I didn't realize I was holding. 'That was way to close.'

I decided to call Emma and get the hell out of there as fast as I could.

When she finally pulled up, I quickly got in and she drove off.

   "What's the rush?" She asked.

She already didn't like the fact that I was seeing Jane because she was married, so I decided not to fuel that fire.

   "I was cold."

She glanced at me before laughing a little. "You're such a freeze baby."

I let out a relived laugh. 'Dodged two bullets in one night. You're getting way to good at this lying thing.'

After saying my goodbyes, I headed inside, where my moms immediately started up their interrogation again.

"How was the date, sweetie?" Marry asked.

I smiled at the memory of tonight, the big sundae, dancing with Jane. "Great." I replied.

They smiled. "Where'd this mystery girl take you?" Vanessa asked.

"Just out to get some ice cream." I said as I made my way to my room, attempting to avoid anymore questions.

Luckily, I was successful and I closed the door behind me before plopping down on my bed with a happy sigh.

With Jane getting a new job, there was a good chance she'd be moved out and single soon. Which meant we could officially start dating. Then, all we'd have to worry about were my parents and they were pretty easy going, so I was confident.

Confident in my future with Jane...
