Have you ever fallen in love with a person who had made you feel special in just a short amount of time, with his undeniably amazing personality, swindling looks and jaw dropping talents, but cannot love you back?

I stepped into high school, learned new things, experienced a lot of stuff, made new friends. But there was this one person that made me forget all the painful memories of the past and be replaced by the good ones.
My best friend, Paula.
I met her during the first few days of high school, and she became my best friend. She's the one to talk to me first when I lost my way around campus, and she offered me her help. That's where it all began.
She's a very nice person. We hang out whenever we have free time and extra money. We work part-time under the same cafe every after school. We share the same dorm room. We share the same interests, likes and dislikes. In short, we have the same taste and it made me happy.
"(Y/N)!!"
There she was. I giggled and walked up to her with my books huddled close to my chest.
"(Y/N)! Oh my gosh! I met a guy at the cafeteria earlier and I accidentally dropped my things in front of him and he helped me! OMG he even smiled at me! (Y/N) help, I think I'm in love." Paula ranted, and I could literally see her eyes turning hearts.
I sighed happily. Finally, she had liked someone here in school. She's always too preoccupied with her studies and her job and she never had time for guys, parties, anything that a normal teenager does nowadays.
According to her, the guy she likes is our schoolmate, but she doesn't know his name. Everyday, she would always have stories to talk about him, whatever it is. I'm so happy for her!

I thought Paula was the only one to tell about her love life. But I was wrong.
I met Hyunjin at the library, when I was doing some research on my project and Paula couldn't be with me since she's busy with some club project.
He's very sweet, kind and caring, and he even offered to help me on my English project, in which I accepted. He's a cute and funny guy, why not?
As time passed by I hung out with him whenever Paula couldn't make it. We would meet up in the library and help each other out in homework or projects, or just talk about random things at random times.
I could say that, I have fallen in love as well.
"He's so cute, Paula. And he's so kind. He's literally the most perfect guy in the world. He had helped me with my English papers a month ago, and he always smiles at me whenever we see each other! I think, I'm in love." I ranted to my best friend before biting my churro dipped in chocolate.
Paula giggled and ate her own churro. "We're the luckiest girls in the world. We're going to get ourselves boyfriends in no time!" she squealed.
We would always spend our time like this-talking about our "Mr. Right" and imagining our fantasies with him. But, I completely forgot, we haven't told each other the names of our crushes yet.

Until one day, Paula came up to me.
"(Y/N)! He's courting me!" she squealed, jumping up and down while tugging on the sleeves of my blouse.
I giggled, slowly pushing her hands off me, "That's great! He better treat you right, or I'll smack him where the sun doesn't shine if he makes you cry-"
"Don't bother. I'll make sure to do that even if he thinks about it."
We laughed at our stories until I had to leave, remembering that I still have to meet up with Hyunjin since he had asked me for help with his Greek mythology homework.
When I went to the library, I saw him sitting all by himself, surrounded by a small army of books and notebooks, scratch papers, colorful pens and post-it notes, and his black laptop.
As I made my way over to him, I couldn't help but think of confessing my feelings to him. Over the short amount of time I had spent with Hyunjin, I felt like the happiest girl in the world. He had taken care of me and made me feel loved-he's like the boyfriend I never had.
"Hey, Hyunjin."
He looked up at me with a smile. "Hey, (Y/N). I'm sorry if I made you come here, I know you're a busy pers-"
I shook my head and took a seat beside him. "No worries, it's alright. Let's start?"
"Let's start."

One day, I confimed my feelings to him and decided that I should confess to him. I needed to let all of these feelings out. Whatever the result may be, I will accept it. If he rejects me, it's okay. But if he accepts my feelings, I'll be more than happy.
I just hope everything will happen according to my way.
"(Y/N)! I'll accept his feelings later!" Paula giggled, gripping the strap of her bag. "I want you to be there with me, please? It's one of the best memories in my life and I need you there by my side." she states, giving me her puppy eyes.
I chuckled and patted her head. "Of course I'll be there. But after this, can you go with me? I want to confess my feelings to him and I need moral support."
"Yeah, I will." Paula smiled and hugged me. "You're the best person in the world."

The bell rung. Which means, I will be accompanying Paula to her suitor and after that she'll come with me then I'll confess to Hyunjin.
Easy to say, hard to do.
I took a deep breath and waited for my best friend to finish her business inside the restroom. Once she came out, her hair was brushed nicely, and her face was free of makeup.
Honestly, my best friend is so beautiful, I don't know why she's getting insecure of herself. With or without makeup, she's beautiful. I can see what her suitor had seen in her-beauty, brains and personality.
"Let's go?" I asked.
Paula took a deep breath and flashed her bright smile. "Let's go."
We walked to the gym, where she said they would meet. Actually, I'm so excited to meet the guy. He clearly makes her happy, and I want to see my best friend happy all the time.
Then, when we walked inside the basketball court, I saw a tall guy, with his back facing us. He was wearing a different set of clothing-a branded white shirt, a black leather jacket, a pair of black ripped jeans, and a pair of expensive shoes.
He seems familiar.
Paula ran to him and held his arm. She turned to me, with the tall guy.
My heart broke.
Hyunjin.
"(Y/N), meet Hwang Hyunjin. He's from another section, but he's the same age as us." She says.
"Hi. I'm Paula's boyfriend." Hyunjin says, smiling widely.
Ouch.
"I know him," I smile through the pain, "he's the one I'm meeting up with during our projects."
Paula smiled happily. "Really? So you know each other! Wah, it's a small world, isn't it, Jinnie?"
Jinnie? Nice nickname.
"Yeah, I know her. She's the special friend I'm always talking about. She's very helpful and kind, the same girl you're jealous of. You see, love, (Y/N) is only a friend, and will stay as a friend." Hyunjin pinched Paula's nose.
Friend. Ouch.
"Yeah, he's right. We're only friends." I say bitterly, staring at Hyunjin's eyes.
"Oh," Paula nodded and smiled at me, "come on, let's go to the love of your life!"
"No need." I state coldly, cracking a bittersweet smile, "I realized that...maybe he's not for me."
"But (Y/N)," Paula whined, "you helped me with Hyunjin and I want to help you with your future hubby."
I shake my head while biting the inside of my cheek to prevent the tears from falling.
"I've made my decision, thanks anyway." I say, staring deeply into Hyunjin's brown eyes.
"I'm letting him go."
