SEEING BLIND

36| Turner Falls.

Annie was beyond furious. She had all this adrenaline storming through her veins as her mind clouded with every bad thing she could ever think about the Masons. The parents, obviously.

Luke thought it was better to stay silent and not to get in her way, which it was. Annie wasn't upset with him, not at all, she felt bad for him and wanted to make him better but she was still so furious at his god damned parents.

Dragging Luke to her room, she huffed and groaned as she kicked off her shoes, mumbling incoherently.

She tugged Luke's hand towards her, wrapping her arms around his neck as she pressed her lips on his, a lot faster and hastily than what they're used to.

Surprised by her movements, Luke hesitated a moment before kissing back, unsure of what they were actually planning on doing.

He just wanted Annie to calm down and not get ahead of herself, he didn't want her to be angry or upset.

She lifted his shirt off, chucking it on the ground before moving his hands towards the hem of her shirt, helping him tug it off of her.

Pushing him back onto the bed, she straddled his waist and started to kiss down his neck and chest, leaving a hickey in her path.

"Mm, baby," Luke hummed, lips still connected to hers as he shuffled up, feeling her hands tangle in his hair and tug lightly. "Baby, stop."

Annie pulled back slightly, looking at him with furrowed eyebrows as she thought about what he said. Shaking her head, she continued kissing down his neck, rocking her hips on his as Luke had to bite his lip to stop a moan.

"Babe, stop, you're upset," he mumbled, stroking a hair behind her ear as he rubbed her sides with his other hand. "I don't want to do this when you're upset, or when we're both thinking about my parents..."

Annie let out a sigh, biting her lip hard as she stared at him sympathetic smile.

"I'm sorry," she rested her head on his, frowning as he pecked her lips again, fingers poking at the flesh of her sides. "I'm just- ugh."

"It's ok, I just don't want you to be upset princess." He answered, trying not to think too much about the fact that Annie was just in her bra and shorts on top of him. "We should be happy."

"We should be, yeah, but you're parents are dicks." She mumbled, hoping not to offend him but still itching with agitation towards the adults.

Luke's eyes widened, not because she called his parents dicks but because she said dicks. She's never sworn in front of him, she's never sworn in general, she said she didn't feel the need to. Realistically, it wasn't a swear word, not to Luke anyway, but it was the most un-sensory thing she's ever said.

"Language!" He joked, listening as a breathy laugh left her lips, her hair fanning across his face as she shook her head, rolling her eyes at her boyfriend.

-

4 hours into the two day trip, the couple and Andre- who Luke invited along- had already become increasingly bored. There's only so many songs the radio can play and only so many conversations the three of them could have without their voices becoming sore and irritating to hear.

They decided that the only thing they could do now was get something big to eat, that's why Annie pulled over as they were in one of the few cities they will drive through before finally getting to the clinic in Oklahoma.

Annie decided that for lunch she was going to treat them, to a not-so-fancy restaurant serving primarily Chinese food. They were too hungry to even speak as they started demolishing the food served to them within minutes. Once they had finished Annie left a generous tip before they got back on the road, Andre offering to drive until they're next stop at night.

The whole trip consisted of this, Annie and Andre bickering over who was driving as Luke thought aloud about everything and anything he was going to do once he could see again.

"First I'm going to take you on the best fucking date ever, a super-awesome Mega date," Luke started, gesturing with wide hands as a smile so generous graced his lips.

"Awe, thanks, I think I deserve one," Andre commented sarcastically from the back seat, like he had been doing the last hour since him and Annie swapped. They should be arriving at the clinic anytime now, it was just a maze of roads to follow before finally arriving.

"We'll go to a concert, Andre, a proper festival and then we can get you laid again." Luke pointed out, his body shaking with excitement for the future.

"I think you're the one who's going to get laid, mate." Andre chuckled, watching as Annie's cheeks flared up with embarrassment. He wasn't wrong, the two of them knew it, but it was still an uncomfortable topic to talk about.

"Anyway..." Annie drawled on, shifting her eyes from Luke back to the road, where their destination became insight. "We're here." She breathed, biting her lip at the adorable expression on Luke's face.

Oklahoma Clinic For Visually Impaired.

Annie read the sign aloud, observing how Andre shuffled up in his seat and Luke tapped his fingers nervously.

Pulling into the parking lot, Annie cut the engine before stepping out of the car, Andre following quick on her tail as she helped the soon-to-be-no-longer-blind-boy out of the car.

Walking into the small little warehouse looking place, Andre and Luke went straight to the seating area as Annie went to the kind looking, ginger receptionist.

She gave her name, as well as Luke's, nibbling on her bottom lip as the lady tapped away at her computer.

Her name tag read Liz, a simple name for this simple woman. She nodded her head, commenting how the wait should be short.

Luke's leg was bouncing furiously, his hand constantly combing through his hair as Andre nonchalantly scrolled through his phone.

Annie sat herself next to Luke, placing a hand on his to stop the fidgeting, kissing his cheek as she tried to calm him, even though her nerves were equally as high.

"Mr Mason? You can all come in now, we'll talk about the procedure and everything in between." A slim brown haired woman smiled, beckoning the three in as she held the door open for them.

Introducing herself as Katie, she explained how everything was going to work and what she was going to do.

Step One of Curing Luke:
- the operation, this will take anywhere between 5 to 10 hours. Sometimes it can be more and that's nothing to worry about.

Step Two of Curing Luke:
- wait until Luke awakes from the anaesthetic, then he will think it didn't work as when he opens his eyes it will be black.
- the lights that he was since used too will be too harsh for his newly sensitive eyes for the first three weeks.
- this means heavily tinted sunglasses are what he's going to have to deal with.
- these will be provided when he wakes.

Step Three of Curing Luke:
- make sure his eyes stay closed as Katie placed the sunglasses on them, telling him to slowly open his eyes.

Step Four of Curing Luke:
- Katie will explain that the stinging is normal, especially if he were to cry.
- He may want to rub his eyes at any time during the next three weeks which he is not allowed to do.
- he needs to try and stay away from things getting in his eyes, even if he is wearing the glasses.
- of a night, he needs to wear a sleeping mask, and have all of the lights off, of a morning he may NOT open his eyes until the glasses are on.

Step Five of Curing Luke:
- come back to the clinic after the three weeks for a check, where Luke will finally be allowed to take the glasses off.

Luke and Annie and Andre nodded along to every step, listening intently so they knew how to follow them.

Now it was time for Step One of Curing Luke, meaning he had to say goodbye to Annie and Andre for now.

Luke gulped as Katie allowed the three a few minutes alone before she took him away. He hugged Annie tightly, squeezing her body painfully but she didn't mind, she needed it too.

"I'm so scared," he mumbled into the skin of her neck, breathing in the air around her as he tried to calm his racing heart. "I love you."

"I love you too, everything's going to be ok." She cupped his face in her hands, pressing their lips together for the last time before he could finally appreciate her beautiful self.

He nodded, following Katie's arm to the operation room, it was going to be a long and painful 5 to 10 hours.

-

Annie and Andre left the place, not having the mental capacity or strength to wait that long doing absolutely nothing.

They decided to go to a diner a little down the street to start off with, they'd probably go somewhere else afterwards.

They didn't know what to say, it wasn't everyday their best friend and boyfriend got their vision back.

"D'you think things will be different?" Andre asked, eating at his chips as he stared at the pretty girl sat opposite him.

He wondered what Luke's first reaction would be to seeing her, probably something along the line of; Holy fucking shit she is hot as fuck or oh my fucking god how haven't we had sex yet or even fuck me. Because that was definitely what Andre was thinking.

Never, ever in a million years would he admit to Annie or Luke or even himself about the tiny little crush he had on the girl.

He didn't even know if it was a crush or just his boyish hormones kicking in trying to get him laid.

He shook the thoughts, and tried to pry his eyes away from her plump lips which would look amazing as they-

"Yeah, they'll be different, but I don't think it'll be a bad thing." She shrugged, sucking on the straw to her chocolate milkshake as she scrolled through her phone, searching for things to do in Oklahoma as they waited.

"We could go to turner falls for a swim, that looks cool. Or the national museum?" She asked, looking at the few things to do that was close to them.

"Turner falls sounds cool, I don't care swimming in my underwear, in this heat it'll dry in minutes." Andre commented, staring out to the wavering sky from the punishing heat.

They agreed on going, finishing their meals before going to the car and starting to drive to the place, it only taking around an hour.

Andre realised he should have picked the museum. He really should have picked the museum. Surprisingly, his first thought wasn't that he would be seeing Annie in her underwear, whilst wet.

He tried not looking at her as she stripped, instead focusing on the other families and couples here- not that he was thinking they were a couple because they weren't she was dating his best friend. Right?

"Ready?" Annie chuckled, her arms feebly covering her body as she ran and jumped into the natural swimming pool at the bottom of the 77 meter waterfall.

Andre's eyes widened, he was definitely going to embarrass himself with probably- but hopefully not- a boner.

He jumped in, dive bombing right next to her and causing her to be soaked to the bone with the fresh spring water.

The only thing on Andre's mind at the moment was Annie, and he felt so sick about it. He should be thinking about Luke, how his operations going and what not, he definitely shouldn't be thinking about how bangable his girlfriend looks.

They spent maybe half an hour in the water before deciding they should start driving back, the traffic being shown on Annie's phone may take an hour or two to get through.

Andre offered to drive, thankfully, so Annie could fix her make up in the passenger seat, her nerves consuming her as she realised Luke was going to see her for the first time. She had to look good.

"You don't need make up, Y'know? You're gorgeous without it, he'll think so too." Andre commented, gulping as he hoped that wasn't too much, too far or too readable.

The last thing he wanted was for her or Luke to find out about his increasing crush.

"Thanks," she sighed, only applying some mascara and lip gloss instead. "Let's go get him, yeah?"
