I was feeling cold. The place smelled like death and disinfectant. The walls were gray. The cold metal of the chair was making me shiver. Paranoia was running in my veins. I was clutching the note in my hand.
A note was left beside Ryder when he or she whoever it was purposely hit him with the car. I ran outside and called the ambulance. The writing on the note made my blood ran cold.
"Stay away from her."
It was happening again. Someone was threatening him just like last time. Landon's death was made to look like an accident. But I knew it wasn't. And now someone purposely tried to kill Ryder.
No matter how much I try to figure out who could it be, I never understand. Luke was by my side. I didn't tell him about the note. I just couldn't. It would put him in danger too.
The doctor walked out of the operation theater after what seemed like eternity. We immediately stood up.
"He's going to be okay. Just some internal bleeding but he'll survive. You can see him." Doctor's words soothed me. My posture relaxed upon hearing his words.
Luke waited outside while I went inside. He was sitting there, his skin pale. A lopsided grin graced his lips making me smile.
"Hey my knight in shining armour." Ryder said. "How are you feeling?" I said, as I sat down beside him and took his hand.
"Better now that you're here." He winked at me. "Stop being cheesy." I said, punching his shoulder lightly.
He winced a little as he tried to move. I kept playing with his fingers. His hand clasped mine.
"What's on your mind?" He said. "Nothing. Just I was scared." I said, honestly.
"Oh my god. Am I hearing you right? You care about me, Rose. You were scared to lose me. Now I can die peacefully." He said, putting his hand on his forehead dramatically.
"I never should've admitted that." I groaned. "But you did. Good to know you care about me too." He said smiling.
My heart fluttered as he said 'too'. I just smiled.
"Do you want me to stay?" I said.
"No you should go. You already have a lot on your mind." He said. "But I wanna stay." I said.
"Ok. Stay." He said.
And I did.

Next day I woke up to see Ryder sleeping peacefully. I took a paper and wrote on it, telling Ryder I'll be gone. I yawned loudly.
I got into the parking lot and went to my car. When I got home, I was ready to collapse.
"Lee. I need to talk to you. Right now!!" Andrea said.
"Can't it wait, Andy. I'm really tired. Please." I said.
"No you need to listen to me. It's about Dad." That immediately caught my attention. What could be so important about Dad??
She dragged me to my room and shoved a piece of folded paper in my hand. I looked at her confusingly.
"I found this in Dad's room. Lee, Dad has a serious heart condition. There's no cure for it. He's gonna die, Lee. Our dad is gonna die." Andy said, breaking into sobs.
My hands started shaking as my heart threatened to burst out of my ribcage. I was frozen. No it can't be true. It can't. Dad looks healthy.
"We need to ask Dad about this." I said, as I went to my room to catch up on some well needed sleep.

I woke up a few hours later well rested. We still needed to ask Dad about this. Maybe there is a cure. Maybe he will not die. The thought alone of Dad dying crushed me.
I went downstairs to see Andrea talking to Dad.
"Hey Dad." I said, as I went up to him and hugged him. He ruffled my hair.
"Dad we need to talk about something." Andy said. I flashed her a warning look to not talk about it now but she ignored me. Chris was also with us.
She dragged Dad to his room. Me and Chris trailed after her. She reached her hand in her pocket and pulled out the piece of paper she showed me earlier. She unfolded it and showed it to Dad.
"Where did you get this?" Dad said, his eyes wide with fear. "Is it true? Are you gonna...die?" I said, timidly.
"Yes." He said, voicing out my fear.
Andy and me started crying. Chris held Andrea as she cried onto his shoulder. I bawled my eyes out on Dad's shoulder. He kept saying 'it's okay', but it was not.
"Does Mom know?" Andrea said. "Yesh she does for a while now. But I beg all of you. Do not tell Mike. It's better for him." He said.
"But Dad you can't just leave us." I said, anger and sadness filled me.
"I'm sorry kiddo. I've lived my life. I've experienced love. I've had kids. I've seen Andy get engaged. I adopted you and Mike. Don't you think for a second that you're not a part of this family. Cuz you'll always be one of us. I've done everything I wanted in this world. My time is done here. I'm not happy to leave you guys. But at least I won't have any regrets." He said, his eyes glistening with tears.
We all hugged Dad as we spent crying because once again, fate was taking away yet another person from our lives. And I don't know if I will be able to survive it this time.

The next day I went to school feeling awful. I met Luke and Ryder outside the entrance. Ryder was having trouble climbing the stairs because he had crutches. His one leg was broken. Luke was helping him.
I saw a slope beside the stairs. I rolled my eyes at their stupidity.
"Yo! This slope is for handicapped people." I said, pointing to the slopes. They both came towards me.
"I don't think you're supposed to say handicapped in front of him. It's kinda insensitive." Luke said, as Ryder tried to pull himself up.
"Fuck you both." Ryder grumbled as he went inside the school.
I told Luke everything about what was happening. He was crying. He saw my Dad as a father. I kept consoling him that it will be fine.
But how can someone be fine when the person they love the most be taken away from them in the most agonizing way possible?
Luke suggested me to tell Ryder about this. I went to look for him in the cafeteria. He wasn't there. I was roaming the halls when I saw him. But he wasn't alone. He was kissing a girl. And not just some girl. He was kissing Crystal.
Hot tears ran down my face as my heart broke even more. That's what you get for getting attached to someone. He broke away from her to see me there. His eyes widened as he tried to speak but I didn't hear him as I ran.
I broke into a sprint, desperate to get out of the school. He was trying to run after me, with his crutches. But he couldn't. I ran and ran until my legs gave out and my lungs could no longer take the pressure.
Now that's just a fucking cherry on top on my pile of misery!!
