Sophia
I had briefly stomped my foot on his, eliciting a girlish yelp from him.
He hopped on one foot while the other was suspended mid-air with his hands around his shoe.
"Ow! What's with the violence, Ya?" Lucas complained as he hopped in one place.
"Because of you, my prof called me out in class for being noisy," I accused him.
The tall black-haired male wiggled his left foot in the air before putting it down on the floor.
He slid his brown eyes to mine, and he threw me a smile. "You never get in trouble."
"Don't text me in the middle of class!" I told him, flailing my arms up and down.
"Okay. Okay. Just chill," said Lucas as he grabbed my wrists and lowered my arms.
My brown eyes dilated in surprise when I felt another vibration from inside my gray vest.
I shot Lucas an accusatory glare,t o which he crossed his arms in an "X" shape, like a shield.
"Don't look at me, Ya. My hands are free." He then dropped his arms as I fished out my phone.
From: Your Beautiful Sister
Sop, where are you?? I've been standing outside my building for ten minutes and you know I hate waiting around. I'm surrounded by creeps here.
A soft chuckle echoed from my chest, and I began to jab at my phone's keyboard, typing a reply.
"What the--" Lucas snickered as he hovered over my shoulder, peering at my phone's screen.
I felt my cheeks burn. "It was her idea!" I used my humiliation to mask the real reason I was blushing. He was standing so close to me, I couldn't suppress the red that invaded my face.
After hitting SEND, telling Stacy that I'd see her soon, I pocketed my white phone into my vest.
I looked at Lucas and told him: "We better go. I always meet up with my twin after school hours so we can ride home together. She hates it when I ditch her through text message."
He fell into step beside me and shrugged one shoulder. "Let's go, then."
When we arrived at the Fine Arts Building, the two of us spotted Stacy flocked by her admirers.
I stole a glance at Lucas' reaction--He was frowning and his eyebrows were scrunched together.
For some inexplicable reason, my heart constricted at the sight of his jealousy. I faked a smile.
"Don't be so green-eyed," I whispered to my friend, nudging him. "Stacy loathes clingy guys."
At least that's what she told me before. I need to be careful with my tips and advice.
Lucas nodded at me and tried to look more casual and unfeeling. I stifled my laughter.
"Stop laughing!"
"I-I'm not laughing," I fibbed while we walked towards my blonde,blue-eyed sister.
"You're a horrible liar, Ya."
I didn't respond because we were already in front of Stacy, who was rebuffing a guy's invitation.
"Don't you know when to quit?" she hissed at Mark Domingo, her obstinate ex-boyfriend.
Mark pressed his palms together, staring pleadingly at my sister. "One date, Stacy. Please."
"No."
Clark Velasquez, another admirer of my twin, chimed in. "She said no, dude. Just leave."
Stacy sent him a dark glare. "You, too, Velasquez. Go bother someone else."
"Ooh! BURN!" Tom Lloyd butted in.
Mark scowled at both guys, then he focused on Stacy. "It's only an apology date."
"Hmm, let me think." The pretty blonde tapped her chin, feigning interest. "...No."
Beside me, I saw Lucas flinch. He must have been taken aback by my sister's coldness.
"See, man, she's not into you anymore," said Aaron Lee, another admirer, as he slung one arm over my twin's shoulders. She furiously shook his arm from her shoulders.
"Don't touch me, Lee," she snapped at him.
Some of the guys mockingly laughed at Aaron's rejection, and I took it as my chance to get Stacy's attention. I advanced towards her and she immediately brightened when she saw me.
"Sop! What the hell took you so long?" she griped while pulling me into a quick hug.
"Well.." My voice trailed off as I darted a side-glance at the tall black-haired male behind me.
Stacy broke the hug and followed my gaze. I noticed her sky blue eyes shining upon seeing him.
I felt my heart pinch a little. She truly liked him, didn't she? Who could blame her?
"Lucas! What are you doing here?" asked my fair-haired sister, stepping closer to Lucas.
The handsome college freshman stared at Stacy, agog, unable to produce a clear sentence.
Good grief, he was a goner.
I answered Stacy for him: "He wanted to ask it were okay for me to assist him in a school project. It's for his English paper, and he thought I could help him out with his essay."
Liar, liar, pants on fire.
My blonde sister blinked her eyes three times, allowing my words to sink in. Then she cast me a knowing smile and nodded her head, making her yellow hair bounce.
"Oh, okay. I presume this means I'll be commuting alone?"
I nodded at her.
She wiggled her fingers at me in a goodbye motion. "See you at home, then."
"Bye, Ace."
And then she walked away from us, leaving her admirers staring after her retreating figure.
I felt someone's hand on my right shoulder, and I craned my neck, then I looked up.
Lucas smiled down at me. "Shall we go?"
"Where, exactly?" I inquired him as we exited the university.
He stopped in front of a row of parked cars, reached inside his pants' pocket, and fished out a key-ring with two silver keys and a green dream-catcher dangling from the silver circle.
I gaped at Lucas as he pointed the key-ring at a white mustang parked a few feet away from us.
"Let's go grab a bite to eat," he told me. "I'll drive." When I didn't budge from my spot, he put one hand on the small of my back and pushed me forward.
The tall male swung open the passenger's door for me, but I was still immobile. "You can drive?"
An amused chuckle left his mouth. He reached inside his other pocket and showed me his wallet after he flipped it open, presenting me with his driver's license.
Pushing his wallet back into his pocket, Lucas met my gaze and gestured for me to hop in the car. "Come on, Ya," he cajoled while holding the door open. "It's going to get dark soon."
I sighed, dropping my shoulders and shaking off my green backpack, hugging it to my chest.
"Where do you want to eat?" Lucas graciously asked me while I climbed into my seat.
I pursed my lips as he revved the engine. "Surprise me."
"Okay," he replied, looking behind him as he rolled his car out of the parking lot.
With my bag perched on my lap, I put my cheek on the back of my fingers, and I gazed out of the car window, admiring the passing scenery of trees, buildings, and the pale blue sky.
A ghost of a smile crept onto my lips as I saw Lucas' reflection in the window. He kept his brown eyes on the road, and it made me feel like precious cargo.
He's not yours.
The smile slid off my face as I heard my own voice chiding me, but I ignored it.
