Paul and Lucy were enjoying sometime playing with the boys (now 18 months old) in the sunny garden. Paul was trying to teach them to kick a ball. The boys ability to kick was really good, sadly their ability to stay on their feet after kicking it wasn't so good, causing Lucy and Paul to giggle hysterically. Baby Mary was sat up in her pram, watching the fun and games with great interest. Lucy headed in to get everyone a cold drink. Whilst there the phone rang. On answering she was pleased to find Klaus Voorman on the line once more. After some pleasantries, she went to get Paul.

"Phone?" said Paul, running up to Lucy, "Who is it?" He looked worried. More Beatles business was due in court very soon.

"Relax," Lucy told him, "it's Klaus."

Looking much brighter, Paul headed inside.

A short while later Paul came back out. By this time Lucy was sat on the grass giving the boys a drink. She waved to Paul as he appeared at the back door.

"Lucy love," he called from the top of the steps, "Got a minute?"

"Stay there boys. Mummy will bring some biscuits." She got up and went to Paul. "Is everything alright?"

"Yes they're good." He paused. "Lucy love, how would you feel if Klaus came round again?"

"Me, It's fine.Why?"

"When he was here last time, we talked about doing a jam session."

"Oh that sounds great Paul!"

"Tomorrow?"

"No problem."

"Are you sure?" asked Paul softly, "It means you'll have the kids to yourself."

"Yes, and we'll all be fine." Lucy patted his arm, "Go and make you arrangements. I want to see you doing music again. It's who you are. I'll be fine with these three and if I need you, I'll call you. OK?"

"You angel!" Paul; jumped up and returned to his phone call whilst Lucy walked back to the twins.

"Bi-cit mumma." said James.

"There you go sweetheart." Lucy held up a biscuit for him to take. "What do you say?"

"Fan –coo mumma." He took the biscuit from her and began to eat it. Lucy smiled at him, he looked adorable.

Lucy offered the same to Daniel who also said thank you. She sat with the two boys as they munched contentedly. Suddenly James yawned widely.

"Are you tired little man?" Lucy asked.

James nodded and leaned against his mother. "Cug-gul mumma pease."

Lucy put her arms around both boys and waited for Paul to come back out. James lay his head on her knee, thumb in his mouth. Daniel, thinking it looked comfortable, joined his brother. Within minutes they were both sound asleep, tired out by the football game. Lucy sat stroking their dark soft curls and enjoyed the quiet closeness.

Paul finally emerged from the house but stopped at the top of the steps and went back into the house. Seconds later he came back, this time carrying the camera. He walked quietly over to Lucy and knelt down, camera poised.

"You look gorgeous like that!" he whispered.

Lucy smiled back to him but carried on stroking the boy's hair whilst Paul captured the moment with the camera. Finally he sat beside her.

"You look happy." she whispered.

He nodded. "Had a really good talk with Klaus. Got some ideas together for tomorrow. Looking forward to it!"

"Good!" Lucy put her head against his shoulder, "Listen, invite him to stay over if you like. That way you can make a full day of it!"

"Yeah, I will." He kissed Lucy, "Right, are we staying here or taking these two up to bed?"

"Considering how tired they are, I think bed might be best."

"Right, who shall I take?"

"Actually, can you take the pram in first. Be gentle though. Mary's asleep too."

"OK. Then I'll come back for Dan."

Later, when the three children were fast asleep and Lucy and Paul had gone to bed, they lay chatting together in the darkness. They always had a talk before falling asleep. It was their way for ensuring time for each other.

"It's been a lovely day." said Paul, "The boys are growing up so fast. It's like they're hardly babies anymore now!"

"I know," Lucy began to giggle as she remember the football game.

"What's so funny?"

"The boys!" she giggled, "...when they kicked the ball," the giggles became laughter, "...and then they'd lose their balance! It was hilarious!"

Paul began to laugh too. "Aren't we mean..." He chuckled, "....laughing at them finding their feet?"

His comment made Lucy giggle more. Suddenly Paul turned to her and kissed her deeply. Lucy pushed him away, gasping for breath.

"I need to breathe!"

Paul laughed. "You've breathed, now come here and let me kiss you again!"

"Just a kiss?" Lucy asked, grinning at him mischieviously.

"Why? What else do you want?"

"Whatevers on offer!" Lucy grinned and kissed him in return, pushing her tongue into his mouth and prolonging their connection.

"WOW!" Paul locked eyes with her, "Now that was something!"

Lucy leaned against his bare chest.

"Fancy making love Paul?" she whispered.

He eyes lit up in excitement. "You're not too tired? You've had a mad day?"

She put her arms around his shoulder and kissed him softly, "No, not tired. Just want you."

"That's good to hear," he whispered, pulling her to him, "because I just want you."

7th July 1971 9.45am

The following morning Lucy was already up with the children when Paul appeared.

"Morning!"

"Hi love."

"Dadda!!" James waved his spoon at Paul.

After giving all three children and his wife a kiss, Paul sat by Lucy. "Sorry I took so long love. I was looking for something in the attic."
"Did you find it?"

He nodded. "Yes, I had a right handed guitar up there. John used to borrow it sometimes. It's for Klaus."

Lucy nodded. "It's OK. We're all fine. What time is Klaus due to arrive?"

"Around 10am."

Lucy nodded. "You're excited, aren't you?"

Paul smiled, "Does it show?"

"Very much," she leaned over and kissed his cheek, "and it's wonderful to see! Have fun!"

"What are you going to do today?"

"I've got some bits of ironing I was going to do but other than that, I thought we would play in the garden again since the weather is so nice."

"The lads will love that!"

"I know," she grinned, "Plus dad was going to call round. Apparently he's bought something for the kids for the garden."

"Oh...wonder what that could be? Did he say?"

Lucy shook her head. "Apparently it's a surprise!" Suddenly she grimaced.

"What's wrong?" asked Paul.

"Judging by the aroma, one of these three needs changing! Can't you smell it?"

"Want a hand?"

"Please!"

Paul and Lucy then played the game of sniffing around the three children, trying to work out who had created the 'aroma' as they called it. Paul pretended to faint, making Lucy giggle.

"Mary McCartney!" he declared, "How can someone so cute make such a stench?" Mary waved her arms to her dad, beaming at him. He leaned over and picked her up. "Come on smelly, let's get you cleaned up!"

He took her from the room, leaving Lucy with the boys. After a few minutes she began to clear away the breakfast dishes. The gate intercom buzzed.

"Hello?"

"Hello. This is Klaus Voorman to see Mr McCartney."

"Oh Hi Klaus!" said Lucy cheerfully, "Listen, would you mind coming around to the back door once I let you in. I'm on my own with the children at the minute. I can't leave them."

"Certainly."

Lucy buzzed, making the gates open and let him into the garden. The back door was already open, letting a gentle breeze into the kitchen as it was already a warm day.

"Hello again!" Klaus stood politely at the bottom of the steps.

"Hi! Come on in!" Klaus came up the steps and handed Lucy a small bouquet of flowers. "For you."

"Me. Awww, thank you, they're beautiful." She gestured for him to come in to the room properly, "Take a seat. Paul's just changing a dirty nappy for Mary. He won't be long. Would you like a drink?"

"Please." Klaus sat at the table and looked at the two boys, still in their play pen. James was stood up and offering Klaus his toy. "My, these two have grown, haven't they?"

Lucy smiled. "Yes, they're getting quite a handful. They're both walking and starting to talk. It's lovely though."

Klaus took the drink Lucy offered and she sat with him.

"So how are you?" he asked.

"Me? I'm good thank you." She looked towards the hallway but there was no sign of Paul, "Thanks for arranging today with Paul, Klaus," she said hurriedly, "I know how much he misses music and being with other musicians."

Klaus nodded. "It's good to see an old friend." He looked at Lucy, "Has Paul left the music business for good?"

Lucy shrugged. "In all honesty, I don't know. I know he uses me and the kids as a reason not to work but it's not just that. Leaving the Beatles and the subsequent fallout with John and the others has hit him hard. He was very depressed at one point." She laughed, "It was only me discovering I was expecting the boys that got him out of himself. That's how the McCartney album happened. I know he loved doing it because I was there for the final mixing and stuff. He was disappointed with some of the reviews though. Especially when comparing his stuff with John. Doing things like this with you might help him get his confidence back!"

"We can but hope," said Klaus, "It would be a great loss to music if Paul didn't come back properly."

Lucy heard Paul coming back.

"Don't tell him what I've said," she whispered, "I only told you because you're his friend!"

"Of course."

"Mummeee, mummeee!" Paul called, "Mummee where are you?" He came into the room with a happy Mary. Lucy looked at his and then at Mary.

"She wasn't wearing that dress when you went upstairs!"

"I know!" Paul looked sheepish.

Lucy started to laugh. "Go on, what did you do?"

"I forget that this little madam can roll over now, didn't I?" Paul began to laugh too, "So I bet you can guess what happened."

"Where's the dress now?"

Paul pulled the rolled up dress from his pocket. "The yukky stuff is inside!"

Lucy took it from him tutting, "What is your father like Mary, honestly, you'd think he'd know how to change a dirty nappy by now!"

"Cheek," said Paul, kissing Lucy, "Oh, hello Klaus, I hadn't realised you were here!"

"No problem." Klaus smiled at his friend, "I was enjoying the floor show!"

"Oh sorry Klaus," said Lucy apologetically, "It's does get quite mad here at time."

"Hey, it's great to see!" he replied, "It makes me quite envious of you Paul!"

"Well anytime you fancy changing a poo filled nappy Klaus, I'm sure one of our three will oblige!"

"PAUL!" Lucy hit him playfully.

"And who's this little lady anyway?" asked Klaus, "You only had the boys when I last saw you."

"This is Mary Kathryn." said Paul proudly, "The smelliest baby in London!"

"Hey, stop calling my little girl names!" said Lucy is mock annoyance, "Give that child to me and go away. Go on, shoo! Go play music the pair of you! Lunch at 1pm OK?"

Laughing, Klaus stood up and followed Paul out of the kitchen.
