Yoongi's POV
I'm going to drown!
I'm only eighteen and I just got my driver's license.
I haven't surfed the waters of Haeundae Beach in Busan nor asked Jennie to marry me yet!
Unless she's Chinese, for they have this old tradition that a living person can still be married to the dead.
Ugh, no. That will be creepy.
Time stood still. My underwater world was peaceful.
I drifted helplessly like an astronaut who suddenly becomes detached from the mother ship.
Out of nowhere, she appeared.
All black hair that flowed in the glistening water. The most wonderful pink-lipped smile flashed before me. Her angelic skin glowed as her piercing brown eyes stared at me and touched my soul.
She floated majestically before me, a silver locket in the shape of a heart dangling from her lovely neck.
This had to be a dream or a sure sign that I had already died and gone to heaven.
I had never seen this dream girl before.
She definitely didn't go to Central Valley University.
There's nothing plastic about this girl. No silicone or liposuction marks. Just that sparkling silver heart.
Where did this angel girl come from?
Why was she swimming at seven o'clock in the freezing morning?
Why wasn't she drowning like I was?
There was no sign of a snorkel or a tank anywhere.
Why did she swim like a fish?
All my thoughts have been washed away when I feel her lips on mine.
It was the best kiss of my life.
And, if it was to be my last, it wasn't such a bad way to go.
She took me by her soft healing hands as I struggled for life and gracefully pulled me to the surface.
I was able to take a glimpse of her turquoise... tail?!
I coughed and choked, but I felt the warmth of the shimmering sun and smiled back appreciatively to my angel lying beside me.
And then everything went black.
I awoke blinded by the sun, my surfboard lying next to me, my suit still damp, sand clinging to my hair, the tide gently rolling over my feet.
I slowly sat up, wondering what had happened. According to my waterproof Fossil watch, it was nine-thirty.
I was totally late for school and I have a throbbing headache.
Now it all made sense.
I must have been dehydrated this morning and passed out on the beach. The rest had to be a dream.
I apprehensively caressed a mysterious silver heart and gazed out toward the rolling sea.
Where the hell did this come from?
Maybe I had wiped out and hit my head on my surfboard.
Maybe I did almost drown.
Maybe I had been saved.
And maybe in the struggle, I had pulled the necklace of a... mermaid?

A day after...
Jenny's POV
The sun starts to set, making the sky a beautiful mixture of red and orange. The smell of the salty beach water fills the air and my feet feel warm from the now cooling sand.
I can feel the breeze blowing my hair softly.
Today is just perfect.
On top of that, I have Yoongi sitting beside me. His face calm.
Honestly, I didn't know why he wanted to come back here but he seemed so eager since yesterday after he almost drowned.
"I hope you had a great day today Jen." Yoongi says, smiling his gummy smile.
My heart pounded at the sight.
I nod, returning an equally bright smile. "Of course I did. Thanks for inviting me today. I had so much fun."
"I'm glad." He chuckles.
I turn to look at him only to be enchanted by his smile once again.
His eyes are so beautiful especially when they squint because of his laugh. And yes, his laugh is one of my favorite sounds apart from when he calls my name.
He is just so amazing... so special.
I admit, I've been with plenty of other guys but he was the only one to stay despite all the bullshit that I've put him through, with all my mood swings and shit.
He was also the only one who can shut me up with his savage comebacks.
"Jennie?"
"Hmm?" I blinked a couple of times.
"Uh..." he chuckles, "is there something on my face?"
"What? Uhmm, no. There's nothing, just... looking." I can feel my face heat up so I immediately put my head down.
"I must be quite attractive, considering you where drooling when you were looking at me." He leans in and whispered in my ear.
"What? No, I wasn't!" My head shot up as I wipe my mouth frantically with the back of my hand.
He laughs. "I was only teasing you."
"Asshole." I gave him a playful smack on the shoulder and he laughs even harder. This time I joined him.
I sigh, blushing a light shade of pink.
"I wish everyday will be like this. Don't you?" I ask.
He stared at the sparkling sea before he speaks.
"If everyday would be like this, then this would just be another day. This day would mean less." He says, smiling.
I can't help but smile too as my heart beats like crazy inside my chest.
He is right.
I just hope I can collect beautiful memories with him for the rest of our days.
"Jennie..." I turn to look at him and he hesitates for a moment. "Do you believe in mermaids?"
WHAT. THE. FUCK?
"What?"
He looks serious so I bit the side of my mouth to keep myself from laughing.
"You know, chics with long hair and... fins?" He asks, blushing.
I don't want to embarrass him or ruin whatever moment he's having with his mermaid thoughts.
Besides, I secretly dream of becoming one so who am I to judge?
"What about them?" I realized I haven't answered his question yet.
"It's just that... yesterday, when I almost drowned, I think..." he scratches the back of his neck, "Ithinkamermaidsavedme."
He said it way too fast but I was able to catch up.
I can feel my mouth drops.
"I also think this belongs to her. Maybe I accidentally pulled it off of her neck when I was struggling for life." He pulled out something from his pocket and showed me a silver heart locket.
My eyes widened.
"My grandma's heirloom!" I gasped.
"Your what?" Yoongi asks as we share the same bewildered expression.
I grabbed it from his hand and open it to show him my baby picture along with my grandma's inside.
This is the type of locket made in a filigree style, which is very rare.
"So you mean... you're a... you're..." Yoongi stutters.
"Oh you dummie." I say, giggling.
FLASHBACK
Jennie's POV
"Where's Yoongi?" Lisa asks, scanning the area.
"Oh, he just went surfing. Don't worry about him. Come on, let's go inside." I tell her and she follows me into the beach store.
I was admiring some handmade souvenirs when I heard Lisa shrieked. She was holding a purple, swimmable mermaid tail and she looks at it like she has seen a real-life unicorn.
She grabbed another one from the rack. A bluish-green mermaid tail and she dangled it in front of my face.
"Seriously?" I asked her raising an eyebrow.
"C'mon Jen it'll be fun!" She says, jumping up and down.
I roll my eyes.
Aish, this kid.
But honestly, I am pretty excited too.
We bought the fins, changed into our swimwear, and head to the beach.
I smiled when I saw Yoongi surfing the waves like a pro.
I put my lips in between my teeth. He looks really hot.
Lisa noticed and rolled her eyes. "Ugh, stop gawking and let's try these so we can take some selfies on them."
"Fine, fine. Geez." I say, putting my tail on.
"You go first," Lisa tells me and I lay on the shore posing like a mermaid.
"Okay,okay. Nice. Hana, Dul..." She was about to take a picture when I looked back at the waters but I couldn't find Yoongi.
I immediately sat up.
"Aish! Why did you move Jennie? The picture was a blur." She frowns.
I didn't pay much attention to Lisa's comment. I am too anxious about Yoongi.
"Lisa, stay here." I tell her, not looking back.
I left her dumbfounded. I couldn't see him and I have no idea where he is but I just jumped in, forgetting that I still have the stupid mermaid tail on.
I spotted him drowning in the deep and swam towards him so I could pull him out.
The water was heavy and I can't swim properly because of the mermaid tail, making it worse.
At some point, I felt like even I won't make it because the force of the current was just too much.
I pushed myself harder and summoned all my strength until I finally reached him.
I caught hold of him but it seems that he's about to lose consciousness so I parted his lips with mine, giving him air.
But I know it won't be enough.
With everything that's left in me, I yanked him out of the deep.
When I reached the shore and lay him on the hot sand, some onlookers rushed to pump water out of his body.
I felt dizzy and exhausted. I heard Lisa's voice.
Her cry swelling up into a scream.
But none of them matters as long as I know that Yoongi is safe now.
I smiled and closed my eyes, waking up in our dorm room the following day.
I jumped slightly at the sound of my phone beeping.
"Jen, come to the beach with me?"
The text reads. It was from Yoongi.
PRESENT
I can't help but laugh hard I'm almost crying.
"You really thought a mermaid saved your ass?" I tell him in between my laughter.
"Hey, stop it. I didn't know okay?" He rolls his eyes and frowned.
"Dummie." I continue to tease him.
"I swear Jennie Kim, if you say that one more time..." He warns.
"Du-" He shuts me up by crashing his lips into mine.
My eyes widened and my heart beat triples.
This time, I did not hesitate.
I want this.
I want him.
I kissed him back passionately, digging my fingers into his hair and pulling him closer.
I know for a fact that no matter what happens, I will always find him, and he will always find his way back to me.
