"And where are you going?" "To work" Tying my shoelace double knotted, I got up and fixed my appearance one last time. "Rose, I hope you're happy where you at." It's been about three weeks since the last time I spoke to Mr. Pierce. That night was the last straw for me. I've been at it nonstop searching for a job that contains similar features to my career description.

The one that I have now is working with my economics professor. I was a bit dumbfounded when he explained to me that he did internships. He couldn't have told me that before I went on my break? I could've already started working and receiving insight on what to do and what not to do.

The only difference in his internship is that he didn't build a company from scratch nor is it payable. So I'll be working for free...yippie. I've been working for professor Simon for a week now and I regret it infinitely. The only "work" that I do is provide him coffee cups filled with espresso and clean his desk.

An advice he told me was, "Believe that you can do it and if you can't become a college professor. At least you won't be broke." I literally trailed to my car, went back home, and came back the next day.  I've never been so uninterested in working for someone than him. I've tried quitting on the first day but I decided to wait until the week was over before he hit me with the "I'll give you an F" on an assignment I wasn't even assigned to yet.

"Alright, Professor Bill, I'll be going now," I informed him. Time read 2:45 and I had enough of sitting in a seat organizing test papers in alphabetical order. "Okay, Rose if you need anything let me know. Thanks for your help today." "Actually I do need something. For you to not hire me again once I quit." I stated.

His eyes read confusion until finally understanding what I concluded. "Have a nice day sir." I smiled and walked out. In my head, the week was over and I hope he knew that too. For the time being, I decided to visit Steph at a fashion studio that she currently works in. It was about fifteen minutes away from my school, not too far, and I picked up two donuts on the way.

Parking my car, I walked to the front door and was welcomed as the bell rang. "Hey, Rose!" Steph burst. Strolling over to her station, I observed as she was making a floral dress. Her stitches were completed in perfection and her design was original. "I love it." I awed.

I couldn't be more proud of my bestie's performance. "Thank you. I'll be done with it by Friday," she told. I nodded as she continued to add her embroidery. "So what's up?" "I quitted." "Aww Rose, I'm sorry to hear that." "Say what you really mean Steph."

"It's about time you quit. He wasn't paying nor showing you how to develop into what your heart desires," she admitted truthfully. I breathed in the truth. No other internship is going to fulfill my desires except EPC. "Desperate times calls for desperate measures huh?" Steph quoted. "You have no idea."

Me and God's relationship has been rocky ever since the rejection. Although I try to think sometimes it's not his fault. If I wasn't supposed to get the internship, I know He has something bigger and better planned for me. It's just on a waiting list. A long waiting list.

I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to the new intern. Nothing to physically harm her for example, getting hit by a car. Nothing to emotionally or mentally taunt her spirit, like being loaded with weeks supplies of paperwork. I would want her to have an amazing time working with Mr. Pierce and getting all the insight on how to build and work in a successful company.

Wait a minute?! I can always call Ashley to retrieve the intern's number and ask what's the job like! Perfect. Rose, you are a genius, and it only took you about four weeks to think of this. As my thoughts rambled, I dialed the front desk number to hear Ashley's voice on the second ring.

"Good evening Ashley, long time no chat." I started. "Oh, hi Ms. Kamson,  how are you?" she giggled. "I've been good, and you?" I asked. "Same here, how can I help you today?" "I was wondering if I can have the name of the new intern?"

"That is confidential Ms. Kamson, I am not allowed to hand over names, addresses, or phone numbers of any employees unless I am told to do so by Mr. Pierce." she strictly informed. "I completely understand but I am no stranger to this company just a simple friend."

"I would have to ask Mr. Pierce, Ms. Kams-- Call me Rose. Okay Rose, but I doubt he would." "Can you just try for me?" I begged. "Alright." she tried. I waited on the line for the next 5 minutes until she returned. Before I realized that I sent a prayer to God for a yes, she came back on the line.

"Her name is Amanda Jackson. Her shift ends at 9 tonight and you can catch her on 10th Blvd," she revealed. I stared at the phone blankly with a widened mouth. "He said you could..." "Surprisingly yes. He told her to meet you at the cafe near the building. I don't know why just was told to let you know."

"Uh okay. Thanks for your help Ashley. I hope I didn't get you in too much trouble." "Hopefully not, have a nice chat," she replied and hung up. I was a bit confused about how quickly Mr. Pierce allowed me to know Amanda's information. If it's something that serious I'm surprised he didn't include her phone number.

Once I finished my rant thoughts, I got up to change into something more comfortable. It was 8:30 and I want to get to the cafe before she does, just so I don't seem fashionably late. Not that I believe in that type of stuff. Before I left, I explained to Steph what was happening causing her to display a puzzled look but that didn't allow me to wait any longer.

I expected the night to be filled with traffic but it was possible for me to reach the cafe in about 25 minutes. Surprisingly it was still open hoping that Mr. Pierce wasn't going to play me. As I entered I found a booth and ordered a milkshake. To ease the time I texted Steph and Mariah in our group chat, waiting for the woman to finally arrive.

It took her 10 minutes to come and I motioned her to where I was sitting. "Hello, My name is Rose Kamson." I smiled leaning in my hand for a handshake. "Hey, I'm Amanda," she said nonchalantly ignoring my hand and taking a seat across from me. Okay. Strike One.

"Congratulations on getting the new intern position at EPC." "Thanks." I waited for her to say anything else, but I figured I would be the one doing the talking tonight. "Do you plan on being the same as Mr. Pierce? Your own boss?" I questioned. "No, but I plan on working in the political field. Possibly to become a political journalist or a role within the civil service."

That sounds interesting. "Is that why I'm here? To let you know what I'm doing as Mr. Pierce's intern?" I nodded in honesty. "Yea, I was just wondering if you could give me some points from time to time on how he built his company. If you don't mind." I explained.

"Do you like him?" she yawned. I coughed uncontrollably. "Ha, no. I'm just glad I found someone who shares the same interests in me." I admitted. The night continued as we chatted about her internship and introductions about one another. She didn't seem to bad as a person, it just seemed as if she wasn't grateful for the internship.

Before she left she handed me a large envelope sparking my curiousness. She left the cafe before I did just so I could pay the bill. Strike Two. And to think I was starting to like her too.

When I reached home, I opened the envelope to find a letter and a few unknown sheets from EPC.

Dear Ms. Kamson,

I want to personally say that I apologize for the inconvenience of not accepting you as my intern. It wasn't because you weren't good enough. Nor was it because of your communications skills, one of the qualities that I admire about you. However, I chose Amanda because she is apart of a situation that I am going through right now. Although it may seem like she doesn't enjoy the job, trust me, she does in a sense. Anyways, I allowed Amanda to visit you in the cafe from time to time giving you insights on what she completes in her schedule. These insights will also help you advance in your knowledge and preference in your future career field. I want to help you as much as possible in fulfilling your dreams. I hope time tells when you accept my apology and soon enough we can be friends in the business. Good luck on everything God has set in your path.

Sincerely,

Mr. Pierce.

Even after declining me as his intern, he still wants to help me. I don't understand. As I placed the letter to the side, I shuffled through the piles of worksheets taking a glimpse of certain information that he shared for today. I was amazed at what I still have yet to accomplish in my business. I'm wondering is it possible to do what he's offering and school at the same time.

I spent the rest of the night researching and analyzing what I could begin to do starting the next day. I felt extremely grateful for finding a man who has the heart to help. However, as I searched my mind reflected on the last sentence of the letter. "Good luck on everything God has set in your path."  I wonder if this help really going to benefit me?

God, is he a part of my path?

I personally feel like I could've done better in this chapter, but I hope you like it for now. I'll probably add or change some things later on.

A picture of Steph is on the top.
