"Alright, guys, you're headed to Coldfront," Miss Pauling said.

Everyone collectively groaned. Everyone hated Coldfront. It was snowy and cold. And the base they had there was much smaller, and it didn't have proper heating. Being stationed in Coldfront was the absolute worst.

"I'm sorry, I know, it's not the best. But hey, on the bright side, it's only for this week!" Miss Pauling said, trying to redeem herself. She was often the bearer of bad news, unfortunately.

Sure it was only a week, but it going to be a long, cold week. The team meeting eventually ended with transportation arranged for everyone. They'd fly to the base via plane, since the teleporter Engineer had put there had been destroyed.

***

Everyone arrived in Coldfront a few hours later. Stepping off the place, the cold air hit Scout instantly. He shivered and crossed his arms. Everyone got their bags and went inside, which was about just as cold as it was outside.

"Jeez, did BLU destroy everything?" Scout asked, pulling a hoodie out of his bad and tugging it on.

Engineer shurgged. "Probably. Just gimme a few minutes and I'll have the heat working," He said.

Scout nodded. Everyone got their bags and went to their respective rooms. There were only 5 very small bedroom at this base, so everyone had to double up. Well, everyone expect Spy who insisted that he get his own room.

Scout threw his bags beside the bed as Sniper walked in. Scout smiled at him. "What's up, Snipes?"

Sniper frowned. "It's too cold," He complained.

Scout snorted. "Yeah, you can say that again,"

Suddenly the furnace kicked on, emitting a soft hum. Scout let out a sigh of relief. "Thank god, or I think I'd turn into an ice cube," He muttered.

Sniper nodded, throwing his bag down and sitting on the bed. It was small, much like the room. There was a tiny closet, but since they were only here for a week it would be unnecessary to put their clothes in it. And the outside wall had a large window so you could look out at the landscape, which was basically a bunch of pine trees and snow. It had taken a while to get here, and the sun was already setting. The only sunlight that came in the room was a soft orange glow.

Scout sat beside Sniper, leaning up against him. Sniper out an arm around him. "'M cold," Scout whined.

"I know, I am too," Sniper said.

Scout sighed. The room was already starting to feel warmer, thanks to the furnace. An idea popped into Scout mind and he smirked to himself. His hands were icy cold, and what better way to warm them up then by sticking his hands up Snipers shirt.

Upon contact, Sniper shrieked. "Scout!" He yelled, shoving him away.

Scout held on tightly. "Sniperrrrrr, 'm collllld," Scout whined.

Sniper rolled his eyes. "Get off me, you idiot," He said.

Scout gave in. "Fineeeee," He said.

"If you're cold then why don't you get under the blankets?" Sniper asked.

Scout shrugged. "Alright," He said.

They both crawled under the blankets. It was late anyways, so they could just go to bed. Scout snuggled up to Sniper instantly, smiling. Sniper chuckled and put an arm around him.

Sniper placed a kiss on Scout's forehead. "Goodnight," He murmured in the darkness.

"Night," Scout said back.

***

In the heat of battle, Scout took a bad few shots to his body. He clutched one of the wounds and ran away from the opposing team's Heavy.

Scout ran himself right into a deserted part of the map, before dropping to his knees from the pain. "Fuck, fuckfuckfuckfuck," He said, clutching the wounds.

Scout had called for Medic, but he was in the other side of the map, probably up in the fight with Heavy. And Scout's health was slowly deteriorating. By time he got there, he'd be dead.

Scout started breathing heavier. He saw the snow around him that was once a crisp white color was a dark, crimson red. He was losing a lot of blood, and fast. Scout couldn't sit up anymore and he laid back in the bloody snow.

"Scout?" Sniper asked, walking over to him hesitantly. He looked over his shoulder to make sure he wasn't being followed.

"Sniper, what're ya doing here? You gotta go..you gotta...you gotta...." Scout trailed off. He could feel a warm liquid sloshing around in his head. His vision seemed to be darkening around the edges and everything seemed blurry. Scout had the faint realization that he was dying.

"Scout..." Sniper said, kneeling down in the snow next to him. He grabbed his hand, and felt his cold he was. He  propped his head up with his other hand. "Scout.."

"Please don't leave me," Scout uttered. Death was terrifying, and everyone here lived through it every day. And despite knowing that he would come back perfectly fine, he was still scared. It was even worse dying slowly like this. Feeling the life slowly drain out of your body. Having the darkness creep into your vision. Bleeding out in the snow and cold. Scout didn't want Sniper to risk dying too, but he didn't want to be alone. It was horrifying.

"I won't, I'm not leaving, I promise," Sniper assured, stroking his thumb over Scout's hand. It was comforting, in the midst of his death.

Scout could feel his heartbeat slow down, could feel the sinking weight of his body farther into the snow, and everything slowly faded to blackness.

Sniper held onto him until Scout took in a breath and he didn't exhale. He pressed a kiss to Scout's hand and laid his arm down in the snow. He had nothing left to do but walk away and left respawn put him back together.

Sniper stopped for a moment to take his glasses off, wipe his tears away, and put his glasses back on before re-joining the team.

***

Scout walked into his room with Sniper after taking a hot shower to wash all the blood and sweat away. It had ended up being a rough day, but the team pulled through in the end and scored themselves a win.

Sniper was sat at the foot of the bed, staring at the floor. "Hey, you okay?" Scout asked, leaning against the wall.

Sniper glanced up. "Oh, Scout, you're back. Yeah, yeah i'm okay," Sniper said, mustering up a smile.

Scout frowned. "What's wrong?"

Sniper shook his head. "It's nothing, i'm okay," He lied.

Scout crossed his arms. "Tell me,"

Sniper fumbled on what to say for a moment. "I just...I keep thinking about what happened," He confessed.

Scout shook his head. "Sniper, look at me, i'm fine." Scout said. He held his arms out and did a little twirl. "I'm all good," He reassured.

"I know, I know, that why I didn't want to say anything," Sniper mumbled.

Scout internally kicked himself. He wasn't being helpful. He took a breath and sat beside Sniper. He started at the wall in front of them. "Why is it bothering you?"

Sniper shurgged. "I just...I hate seeing it happen to you," He said.

Scout took his hand, and rubbed his hand with his thumb, the way Sniper had done earlier. The memory was hazy but he was certain that Sniper had done that. "I know, but it's okay. It's not real. I'm always going to come back to you," Scout said quietly.

Sniper nodded, and he sniffled. That caught Scouts attention. He looked up at Sniper. "Oh, Sniper, don't cry," Scout mumbled, before kissing him. He didn't know why, it just felt right. Like a last attempt at reaching him from wherever his anxiety had him trapped at, trying to wake him up. "I'm okay, I promise,"

Sniper nodded. He reached up to wipe his tears away but Scout beat him to it. Sniper suddenly pulled Scout into a tight hug, resting his chin on Scout's shoulder.

"I love you," Sniper said.

Scouts didn't miss a beat, "I love you too,"

Sniper nodded and pulled away. He finally smiled a real, genuine smile. Scout pulled him into another kiss, though the sad mood of the room still hung over them like a rain cloud

***

Scout was running from something. Something that was chasing him. Something that stabbed him. He was bleeding. He was dying. He fell to the ground.

"I'm going to die, is going to die, i'm-"

"Scout, wake up!"

"Sniper..."

"Scout!" Sniper yelled, shaking him frantically. Scout's eyes finally popped open.

"What?" He asked, sitting up. The bedside lamp was on, and Scout noticed the alarm clock red 3:46am.

"Are you okay?" Sniper asked frantically. His hair was messy and he looked exhausted.

"Huh? Oh, yeah, yeah i'm okay," Scout said, as the recollection of his nightmare came back to him. "Just a nightmare,"

"Does that happen often?" Sniper asked, worried.

Scout shurgged and nodded.

"Scout, why didn't you tell me?" Sniper asked, hugging him. It was then Scout felt the tears on his cheeks and how fast his heart was beating.

Scout shurgged, "I dunno, I was embarrassed I guess," He mumbled, barely audible.

"Scout," Sniper began, pulling back so he could see him. "You can tell me anything,"

Scout nodded. "Okay," He mumbled.

Sniper turned the lamp off and they went back to sleep, but this time with Sniper holding Scout closely and protectively. That time, Scout didn't have any nightmares.

***

There was the faint sound of an alarm, a grumble, something banging the floor, and then the beeping stopped. Scout distantly realized it was Sniper, and that they had to get up, but his eyes remained shut and he didn't move.

Sniper rolled over in the bed, now facing the still half asleep Scout. Sniper smiled to himself and watched his chest rise and fall, silently. He watched how peaceful Scout looked while he was still sleeping, completely relaxed.

Scout faintly felt Sniper run his fingers through his short hair. That caught his attention, pulling Scout out of his deep sleep. He pretended to be sleeping and let Sniper go on for a few minutes.

Eventually, Scout's eyes fluttered open and looked up at Sniper, a warm smile on his face. Sniper's hand froze and his face heated up, which only made Scout smile more.

"Mornin'" Scout mumbled, eyes falling closed again.

"G'morning. How long have you been up?" Sniper asked, still embarrassed.

"Mmm, I dunno a few minutes?" Scout hummed, forcing his eyes open again. Jeez, he was tired.

Sniper flushed again. "Sorry," He apologized, starting to move.

Scout grabbed him hand. "No, it's good," He mumbled. His thoughts were still incoherent but he enjoyed whatever Sniper was doing.

"Okay," Sniper smiled, resuming running his hands through Scout's hair.

They stayed in bed like that for a long time, until they finally had to get up and prepare for the day.

After getting dressed and so on, they headed into the cramped kitchen to get a quick snack on before heading off. Sniper headed directly to the coffee maker, while Scout opted for an energy drink.

"Drinking you're hot bean juice, I see?" Scout asked, grinning.

Sniper laughed. "It's coffee and it's good," He said in defense. They shared a quick kiss before more teammates filled into the room.

However, not quick enough, as when they parted Pyro was standing in the hallways,  staring at them through the blank expression of the mask.

Sniper blushed, as did Scout. "Oh, h-hey Pyro!" Scout said, plastering a fake smile on his face.

Pyro didn't say anything, didn't move. Then, he put a hand over his heart and gave them a thumbs up. Scout smiled, flushing.

Pyro walked away, as if he couldn't handle the situation anymore. Not that Scout was offended, because he was in fact the exact opposite. He was relieved he wouldn't have to awkwardly sit through a meal or explain anything. Thank God it was just Pyro.

Scout breathed out a sigh of relief and Sniper just shook his head.

"We're going to have to tell everyone at some point," Sniper stated.

Scout shurgged, nodding. "Yeah, at some point. Not at this point," he countered. Sniper cracked a smile and rolled his eyes.

Yeah, today will be a good day.
