Jojo's POV
Should I tell her that her weave is on crooked, or no?
I was sitting at the edge of the couch staring at Danielle while Leena did her makeup. We were supposed to be heading out, but she was taking forever. I rested my head on my hand as I waited impatiently. I was seriously growing bored watching them try and figure out what shade of eye shadow looked good with her out fit....she was wearing white - all fucking white. What color could possibly go with that?
Glanced back a the faux hair pony tail that was slightly hanging off the bun that it was supposed to securely attached to.
I felt the corner of my lips curl up into a smirk as I tried to fight back a smile. I shook my head to myself. Nah, I'll let her figure it out herself. I glanced towards the television and began flipping through the channels, becoming lost in all the many channels that was popping unto the screen.
"Where the hell is Aj?"
Leena looked up and glanced around. " I didn't even notice she was gone." She shrugged nonchalantly.
"She never came home from school?"
There were the sounds of car doors slamming coming from outside. Danielle stood up from her chair and walked over towards the window. " I think that's her out there now. "
De walked over to the window and pulled the curtains back. I saw her cheek bones rise. " I should've known..." I could hear the smile in her voice.
Reluctantly, I stood up and walked over to the window. I pulled the curtain away from De and looked down at the apartment parking lot. There, I could see her getting out of the car and Michael also. He walked around to her side and wrapped his arm around her body.
Damn....this is more serious than I thought...
"Is that my lil girl out there?" Danielle asked her.
I looked at her disgustedly. This bitch is so fake...
"Yeah, that's her alright." De shook her head with disbelief. " I can't believe it, my little baby girl is growing up!" she held her hands over her heart.
I shook my head at her. "Am I the only one who realize that he is out there kissing on a sixteen year old?" Everyone else seemed to be okay by the fact that she was falling for someone four years older than she was. I didn't like it, it sound so unnatural. She wasn't even legal yet." I'll be back." I turned and walked out of the apartment, heading down the steel steps. When I made it to the bottom I stayed behind the wall; peeking to see what they were doing.
They were locked in a passionate kiss. Aj was trying pull away from him but he kept pulling her tightly against his body. She would giggle every time- which was so odd for me to hear. I still wasn't used to seeing her smile.
"I have to go..." she breathed as their lips met again. " They're probably wondering where I am..."
You got that right. I thought.
He smiled against her lips." They know you're with me." he said then kissed her again.
I wasn't told about it.
They stood there for another ten seconds kissing each other before breaking free. " I really have to go now." she whispered.
He cocked his head to the side and kissed her neck causing her to let out a gasping moan.
My eyes widened with astonishment. Oooh, he sure knows what turns her on....I wonder if they-
"..mad at you." I heard her say. " You know, for what happened earlier."
He shook his head. " It doesn't matter to me what he thinks." he said as he pressed his forehead against hers. "I love you."
She kissed him softly." I have to go." she began to pull away from him. " I'll see you later?"
He was holding on to her hand; stopping her from parting. "I'll see you at the studio Monday, right?"
She nodded her head." Monday." she said with clarification.
He pulled her back into his arms." And you will call me tonight, right?"
"If you don't fall asleep, yeah." she said.
He kissed her again.
I rolled my eyes and stepped from behind the wall. I knew that they would be there all night if I didn't say anything. " Aj!"
Her head popped up. She looked at me bug eyed as if she was had just gotten in trouble by her mom. " Jojo, what are you doing out here?" she asked.
"You know, I hate to break up the smooching but you might want to get back in before Sasha comes home and find out you've been gone all day."
She sighed. "Right..." she turned and kissed Michael again. " I'll see you later." she told him.
He smiled and nodded his head. He gave her two more pecks on the lips and the on her nose and her cheek. " Call me."
A smile spread across her face. " I will," she pushed her self on her tip toes to kiss him again.
Good, Lord! what the hell is up with them! I sucked my teeth and walked up to them." Okay! I'm sure y'all have done enough tongue passing for one day! Let's go, Aj!" I ordered.
She scolded at me then turned and hugged him and kissed him on his cheek. " Bye," she said as she pulled from his arms.
He waved at her before opening the door of his car and getting in. When he closed the door he rolled down the window and hung his head out." Its nice seeing you again Jojo."
"Yeah, mmhm, nice seeing you too. Now go before someone sees you."
He laughed and looked at Liyah." I'll call you, Liyah."
She nodded.
We waited until he started up the car and pulled out of the lot before turning and heading towards the stairs. I stopped at the first step and sat down on it. I looked up at Aj who stating at me confusingly." Aren't you comin' in?"
I shook my head. " Not right now. I need to talk to you, baby girl."
She gave me a disgusted look. I knew that look was because I called her Baby Girl. She hated that. " About what?"
"You and Michael."
Her eyebrow raised in suspicion. "What about us?"
"You look like you're getting serious."
"What exactly do you mean by serious?" She quoted her fingers on the last word.
"You two kissing the way you do. You haven't known him for that long." I said. "I mean, can you possibly sit here and tell me you know everything about him? Do you know what kind of person he is?"
She nodded her head slowly. " I know exactly what kind of person he is. "
"Are you sure, Aj?"
She sucked her teeth. " Jojo, do you honestly think I would be with him if I didn't?"
" No." I said after I thought about it. " But still, you have to be cautious. You never know."
"I don't think he wants to hurt me." She said as the corner of her lips began to curl up. " He makes me happy. I love him..."
My eyes grew wide. "Love?"
She nodded as her green eyes darted towards the night sky. "Yes, I do."
"Have you two..."
Her eyes fell upon me again. "Have we what?"
"You know," I said as I looked at her over my imaginary glasses.
She stared at me blankly.
"Oh my God, have you had sex with him yet?!"
"What?! No!" She practically yelled. " Why would you even think that?"
"I'm just going by what I see, sweet heart, and by the looks of things you two are getting serious."
She rolled her eyes." Jojo...."
"What?"
"He's not....like that."
"Yeah, that's what they all say." I said, pessimistically.
"I'm serious,"
I nodded my head up and down. " Okay, I believe you, but seriously... love?" I asked. It was so unlike Aj to allow herself to fall for anyone. She had built such a strong wall that separated herself from people who she thought may hurt her; for as long as I had known her, we were only able to play outside that wall. Other people were chewed away by the dogs that she had guarding them.
She shook her head up and down. " Yeah," she sighed." And I'm scared of it."
"You're scared of love?"
She nodded.
I knew that. It was rare that that word ever came out of her mouth. "Honey, if you're scared of love, why are you letting yourself fall in it?"
"I tried to stop it, Jo," She said. " It just.....happened. Totally unexpected."
"His age doesn't matter to you?"
"No," she shook her head. " Not at all. He has a child heart." She began climbing the stairs. " I'm tired, I'm going to go lay down." This is what she did when she didn't want a conversation to get too far.
I decided to let it go. I stood up from the hard steps and began dusting my butt off." We're going out tonight, you don't want to come?"
She turned, giving me a look. " Is Danielle coming?"
"Yes,"
"Then no,"
I pursed my lips." Even if she wasn't would you still come? I mean, we could always dump her off on the side of the highway, and hope it rains on her ass. I'm just saying..."
She laughed. " No. I'm tired, really," She said convincingly. " I'm just gonna go to sleep."
Sighing, I began following her up the steps. Watching has the shadows danced on the back of her head.
Back in the apartment, De, Leena, Nikki, and Danielle was all sitting around listening to the radio and talking about something that I didn't catch on to when I did hear about thirty seconds of where I picked up at. Aj had went into the kitchen and grabbed a roll off the stove that Liana had made before turning and headed towards the room that she shared with De. "Where have you been?" Danielle asked her.
Aj stopped and slowly turned towards her mother with her eyebrow cocked up." Minding my own business. Something you obviously don't know how to do."
Danielle's facial expression changed from curious to disgust. "Girl," she said as she stood up. "I am your mother, you don't talk to me like that."
Aj just stared at her mother. Not changing her facial expression. Not making a move. The whole room had fell quiet and the only sound was the unfamiliar music playing faintly from the radio the sat on the coffee table near Nikki. "Hmph..." was the only sound that came out of her. She looked away then back at her mother. " Since when...did you become my mother?" she used her fingers as quotations.
"Since-"
"Hey, hey, hey!" Nikki interrupted. I thought she was trying yo stop a fight that hadn't even started, but she was leaning near the radio with her eyebrows furrowed with concentration. She reached up to turn the dial; turning volume up higher.
My ears fluttered up when I heard the voices coming from the speakers and the words that seemed foreign to me became something highly familiar to me.

Nikki began screaming at the top of her lungs. " Oh my God!!!! That's our song!!!!!" She squealed as she began jumping up and down. "Can you believe, that's us on the radio!!!" Her eyes widened when she realized what she said. "WE'RE ON THE RADIO!!!!" She shouted.
De and Leena jumped in and began dancing to the song and singing the lyrics. " You give me life, the love, and every everything I ever dreamed of!!!!" It was now I'm the middle of the second verse and Aj's voice was what was heard over all their screaming voices. " Ooooh, baby, just wait...." They sung.
"What's going on?" Liana asked when she came in to see what was going on.
"Our song is on the radio!" Aj said
Liana looked towards the radio as smile spread across her face." That's your song?"
"Yeah!"
The phone began to ring and Liana turned towards the nearest phone that was on the side table. I turned my attention back to the girls as I watched all of them dance along to the song. It was nearing the end and all I could hear was us singing the chorus again and Aj's vocals leading us. The beat had began to pick up also.
There was a knock at the door and De stopped dancing enough to get it. It was Wayne who was standing on our door step. De instantly jumped into his arms. " Oh my God, baby, our song is on the radio!"
"I know, I know, it came on while we were coming here." I didn't notice he had brought his sister Jackie and their cousins Britney and Kelly. He kissed De on her lips before letting her go.
The song was over and the radio DJ was on talking about our song. " ....was Promiscuous, an all girl group from Harlem New York who was just signed to Epic records!"
"Promiscuous?" Aj asked confusingly.
" Oh yeah, if you were here you would've known that we changed the group name and this time its permanent." De explained.
"Do you even know what the definition of Promiscuous is?" she asked disgustingly.
" Yeah, but we're bringing a different meaning to it."
She stared at her as if she wanted to protest, but instead she shook her head. "Whatever," she said. She was holding the phone to her ear as she stared at De. Then her attention darted away from her to the phone. " What did you say..." A smile came across her face." ...oh no, I heard it...." She sat down on the couch.
I assumed she was talking to Michael.
"I'm gonna go, get the car ready." Wayne said as he pulled away from De. " Its these De's first night clubbin' in Encino, so y'all need to make sure y'all introduce them to as many people as y'all possibly can. " He was speaking to Jackie, Britney, and Kelly as he walked out the door.
"She's new to California and he wants everybody to pitch in and help her out. " Kelly said as she stared De down with a teasing look on her mahogany face. " He sure has the sudden case of the niceness."
Britney stood next to her, and crossed here arms across her chest. " He probably caught it from that new sway in somebody's ass."
De smiled, but I could see that she was confused about what he was talking about. " What are y'all talkin' about?"
"We know Wayne," Jackie said from the couch. " He's not usually this....gentleman like."
Kelly nodded in agreement. " Mhmm, you might be all romantic lovey dovey now, but wait a few months those true colors will come out."
"Yeah, girl. You gone go from all lovey dovey, hearts and rainbows, to lovey dovey sad and lonely."Jakie laughed.
De rolled her eyes. " Please...he loves me."
"Girl, Wayne got a thing for every young heffa who sticks her butt out. You better watch ya self." Britney warned.
"Yeah, you wish he did."
"You don't have to believe us now, sistah." Jackie said through a chuckle. "But you'd be wishing you had listened to us."
"Wayne ain't at all what he seems, honey." Kelly added.
"As much as I love my brother, he's a player. He don't care about nobody else's feeling but himself."
De 's smile remained but I could tell she was becoming uncomfortable by the conversation she was having. I was glanced at everyone else in the room: Nikki, Leena, Danielle, and Liana all watched he De's have with precision. Trying to catch any signs of her believing anything Wayne's siblings was telling her. Aj, was still on the phone, mumbling as low as she possibly could. De simply just pulled her purse on shoulder and shrugged. " He loves me." She said, then walked out the door.
