Door CreateTheMemories

Time to wake up for the second time.

I yawn, and roll out of bed.

I quickly check myself in the mirror in case Colby was still here.

It's almost ten, maybe I'll make some eggs for him quickly while I'm at it.

I fix my hair into a messy bun and hop out into the kitchen. I begin making the eggs and my own breakfast sandwich. I'll be nice and make him one too. We should try and be friends at the very least. Hmm, it's about ten. Where's Colby?

I mean, he sleeps a lot so maybe he's just too pooped out from yesterday.

Finally, I set the food down on the table and take a seat. After getting five bites into my sandwich, the meal I just prepared for Colby was starting to get cold.

I decide to get up and just wake the damn fool. It just turned ten o'clock.

"Colby! Wake the hell up!" I shout from my seat.

No reply.

"COLBY!" I yell again. That's peculiar. I get up from my seat and trudge over to Ellie's room.

I begin to push open the door, "Colby, get up or else your food is going to ge-" And nobody was there. The bed was made already and looked untouched. "Cold..."

Where had he gone?

He probably just didn't want to see my face since last night; I made it perfectly clear that we were nothing.

Suddenly, my phone begins to buzz on the kitchen counter.

"Ugh," I sigh. I didn't want to make any human interaction at the moment.

I trot quickly to my device and check who had texted.

Colby.

C: Hey, thanks 4 letting me sleep over

A: np

A: but whered u go?

C: I had a meeting at 9 with the producers of fill in the prank w elton and amanda

Someone knocks on the door while I'm watching The Flash on the couch.  I pause Barry Allen for a quick second and yell, "Coming!" As I haul myself off the couch and sprint like the Flash, to the door.

I open it, "Hello?"

"Hey." It was Colby.

"Hi, come in," I give a friendly smile.

He steps in, "So where's ma breakfast? I left without eating!"

I laugh, "In the fridge, I'll heat it up for you. Go sit down or something."

He nods, going over to sit on the couch.

"You're watching The Flash?" He asks.

"Duh, Barry Allen is my bae," I reply with sass.

"You're such a nerd, Neil," He scoffs.

"I think the more politically correct term is geek, but okay," I shrug, putting his sandwich and eggs into the microwave.

"Whatever, you and superheroes are just so tacky," He chuckles.

"Says the boy who owns Batman sheets," I tease.

"T-those are back in Kansas, okay! I don't use them anymore," He stutters with a grin.

"You own a Batman snap back," I retort.

"Yes, well Batman is cool as fuck," He defends.

"The Flash is much better," I argue.

He shakes his head, "No, he is not."

"He's much hotter," I say.

"Batman can be...hot," He awkwardly says.

"Mhm, keep telling yourself that," I laugh.

The microwave dings, meaning it's ready.

"Food's done," I say.

"Nice," Colby rubs his hands together and comes to sit by me. "Damn, looks good," He smiles and takes a bite, "And taste good!"

I blush, "Why thank you."

I watch him eat for some time but then I soon realize that's creepy as hell and I should go finish that episode of the Flash.

/////

"Hey, I'm done. Where do you want me to put my plate?" He politely asks.

"Just leave it by the sink," I reply, slouching further into the couch.

He comes by to sit next to me, "Mind if I join you here?"

"You're already here, doesn't matter now, does it?" I grumble.

He raises his eyebrows and goes on, "Someone's grumpy."

"Well, Barry just fucked up his life, once again," I yell more into the tv. Sometimes I just want to punch Barry so he can stop being stupid or just jump into the show and talk some sense into him.

Iris this, Iris that,

love sucks,

who cares!

But I'm not one to talk.

"Wow, you are really into it," Colby points out like it wasn't obvious enough.

"I'm a fan girl, what can I say?" I chuckle.

"Funny," He chuckles.

We continue watching the rest of the episode together.

Once it ended, Colby says, "Hey," to get my attention.

"Hi."

"I need to repay you," He shyly says.

"What, why?" I question.

"Because you let me stay over and make me breakfast, isn't that obvious?" He grins.

"Yeah, but that's because I'm being courteous," I deadpan.

"Still, let me take you to get doughnuts," He argues.

I gasp. "Krispy Kreme?"

"Duh," He replies.

"Suddenly my respect for you just got raised," I laugh, getting up.

"So you did have respect for me? Interesting," He smirks.

"Don't ruin the moment, Brock," I interrogate.

"Fine, but why are you standing now?"

"C'mon, let's go!" I wave.

"Now?" He questions.

"Yes, now! Don't just sit there, get up! You're taking me to Krispy Kreme!" I exclaim, dragging him by his wrist.

"The things I do to be nice..." He mumbles.

"First time you're doing something nice..." I reply under my breath.

We hop into the elevator and it was so awkward now that we're not a thing.

I mean, we never were a thing.

Or friends.

Might as well try.

We get into his car and the first thing he said is, "So, is the car pact still on the table?"

I roll my eyes, "No. It was wiped off the face of this planet."

He grins, "You sure?"

I deadpan, "You have a girlfriend."

"Yes, but the car pact states-"

I cut him off, "Okay, maybe this was a mistake." I begin to unbuckle my seat belt and exit but he grabs my hand.

"Wait! No, I really want to repay you, Ash. I can't if you just leave," He frowns.

I glare into his ocean eyes, "You swear not to make any moves?"

He nods, "Course."

"Alrighty then," I sigh, strapping myself back in.

He smiles and starts to drive.

/////

Colby and I were making some nice small talk in the car.

God, I'm trying so hard to think of him as nothing more than my enemy or at most, my friend. However, I'm failing miserably. I keep getting tongue tied. I try to make things flow but I just stutter and stumble on my words.

Like all of them.

The awkwardness was not fading away.

Could he tell?

After we got out the car, I was mentally slapping myself upside the head. It was such a shitty conversation but at the same time, I thought it wasn't terrible when it was shitty.

See, that doesn't make any fucking sense, whatsoever.

It's like riding on a Ferris Wheel and you really want the guy or girl to kiss you at the top, but you just keep spinning and spinning and next thing you know, the ride is over and you didn't get your kiss.

All you earned from that Ferris Wheel ride was awkward but funny conversations that you weren't too sure about and maybe an arm around your shoulder, but that was it.

You try and try to make him kiss you, but it doesn't happen.

How tragic that is.

Why?

Because Ferris Wheels are made for girlfriends and boyfriends to have a romantic time.

But not getting that kiss...

It's awkward.

When you tried so fucking hard to get it.

That's my car ride with Colby.

Except I didn't try and get any kisses, I tried getting a real conversation.

And it didn't happen.

"Hey, what kind of doughnut are you getting?" Colby asks me, snapping me out of my trance. We're in line at Krispy Kreme in the Grove.

I stutter, "Uh, g-glazed." I then see all the other options on the menu board, "Oh but there's also chocolate icing and vanilla icing. I also really like the ones with the sprinkles, those were my favorite as a kid when I went to Dunkin Donuts with my mom back in Kansas. Too bad I've only been to the Krispy Kreme in Kansas once, ugh I miss that, I miss a lot of people. That makes me miss my family, my sister too, but she's in college now. God, college might suck, I'm pretty scared for it. Do you know how tough UCLA is? Damn, that party we went to was pretty crazy. Almost as crazy as that guy that tried to rape me, but thank god you were there to protect me. I owe you for that, ya know, I should be the one repaying you! Not the other way around, let me pay for our doughnuts."

"Woah, hey dorkatron, are you good there?" Colby chuckles.

Fuck was I rambling?

"Y-yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I stammer.

"You kinda just connected a bunch of ideas and brought it back to the original topic. It was fast and confusing," He says, scratching the back of his neck.

"Oh," I shyly say. "I can still pay for your doughnut."

"No, that's okay, I'll pay for ours."He chuckles lowly, "And what doughnut did you want again? You talked about, like twenty there."

I feel my cheeks heat up, "Thanks, and just glazed."

He nods and orders for us. Soon, the employee arrives with the goodness but to my surprise, Colby ordered us a dozen. Half glaze, three chocolate icing, and three vanilla icing, both with sprinkles like the ones I was talking about when I was rambling on. It was super sweet and I thanked him a million times.

As we sat down on the seats, we began to talk. But with food in our mouths, we were pretty occupied.

"So, how's the chocolate icing doughnut?" I ask, trying to break the awkwardness.

"It's good," He concludes.

"That's...good," I reply, looking away.

Ugh, is this what it's like to be friends with him?

"So, how do you think Sam's holding up?" Colby asks, taking a bite out of his doughnut.

"I bet he's fine, Sam seemed fine and good by the way Kai was talking," I say.

"Yeah, right," He agrees.

A few awkward seconds go by.

I sigh, this was slowly becoming weirder and weirder by the minute.

Colby suddenly bursts out with, "Do you like Kai?"

I blink, why would he think that? "Uh, no," I murmur.

"Okay. I-I was just thinking that-"

I roll my eyes, "Because we're both medical students who hug, and say we love each other, doesn't mean I like him that way. He's my new really good friend."

"Right, sorry. I was just curious," Colby mumbles.

I nod, "Right."

"Oh, who do you think hit Sam?" Colby asks, quickly changing the subject.

"No fucking idea, whoever hit him and didn't even come back to help him is the biggest goddamn douche bag in the whole world," I state.

"You're right," Colby grins. "Do you think Kai is still with Sam? Maybe you could call Kai and ask for him to see how Sam's doing."

"I'll text him, that's a good idea," I say, pulling out my phone to text Kai.

A: Hey! How's Sam?

A: Are you still with him in Cambria?

"And there, lets see if he'll respond," I say to Colby.

Colby smiles. He takes his final bite out of his doughnut and attempts to talk with the doughnut still in his mouth.

I shush him, "Don't speak, it's rude to talk with your mouth full, did you not learn your manners!" I scold in a teasing manner.

He swallows his food, "Sorry, sorry, I'm such a bad child, oh no, sue me."

I laugh, "And a dirty one." I point at his face and the obvious amount of icing left on it.

"What?" He exclaims, "What's on my face?" He touches his cheeks and licks his lips but still couldn't reach the icing on his chin.

I giggle, "Here, I got it," going over to wipe it off with my thumb. I hold his chin with my hand and lean over the table to wipe the icing off.

In the process, I look into his eyes, and he looks into mine for a brief amount of time. I was becoming captivated once again and I slowly shrivel inside every time for how cute he is.

Though, I pull away and sit back straight. He awkwardly coughs, and I blush to myself.

"Maybe we should get going now? Now that we're both done," He says, standing up but not looking at me at all.

"Sure," I mumble, slowly standing up too.

We silently walk back to his car, as the world around us is busy and loud. We are two people who can't seem to find their voices.

I wonder how Ellie is doing. I haven't heard her voice, or read any text from her.

"Colby, has Ellie texted you?" I ask as he drives out the Grove.

"Mmm, no. Why?" He questions.

"Well, I haven't heard any updates about Sam at all from her," I mumble.

"Then let's go to Cambria's Hospital," Colby Suggests.

I nod, "Yeah, and maybe they'll allow us to bring him to Los Angeles Emergency Room instead."

"Okay, but isn't it like five hundred bucks to do that?"

"Yo but the gas money... that is already expensive. It's like four hours away, remember?"

"True, maybe we should sleep over at a hotel in Cambria. I'm not doing anything tomorrow."

I hum a quick side to side maybe, "Uh, I still have a YouTube video to shoot and edit today... I don't know, man."

"I'll film and help you edit your video, but I need to see Sam. I just don't want to go alone," Colby pleads.

I smile, "Well, only if you'll help me film and edit, fine."

"And, I have the best, easy video idea," Colby grins.

I look at him up and down, "You? Have the best video idea?"

He shakes his head, "Yeah! Course I do."

"Let's hear it."

"A Q&A. Duh. Easy. Barely any editing needed," Colby says.

"Okay, sure. We can also do it on the drive to Cambria!" I exclaim.

Colby chuckles, "See! We're innovators, thought-provokers, we're smarties."

"You so talk like a valedictorian," I sarcastically say,

"I know, no need to get jealous of my greatness, I get it."

"Whatever, let's go back to our apartments and pack."

As the drove to the apartments were much less awkward, I found myself becoming more comfortable with him and myself. He enjoyed my personality and dumb jokes; and I loved everything he said, because hell, he's Colby Brock.

The weird feeling that I previously had was just gone.

My nervousness was lifted, and yet, I still hate myself.

Being friends with Colby is just something I thought I'd never do.

Like ever.

We're rivals.

However, here I am becoming friends with him.

But, nobody can know that.

We can't give anything away of what we were once doing.

Things will not change for other people.

I'm determined to keep everyone happy.

I'm not selfish, like in my dream.

I'm sorry Sam.

I'm sorry for everything I've done.

I'm sorry for liking my rival.

I hate liking my rival.
