PROMPT: Before the barrels; you're trusted with Bard's children.
It always worried you when Bard had to go out to fill up the barrels. Sure, it was a simple enough job, but there were so many thing that could go wrong when he was out that far. You knew that you shouldn't worry, after all, he was a grown man and he could handle himself out there in the big world. Plus, worrying wouldn't help anything. You couldn't help it, though, you loved him.
You had told him to be careful countless times when he was about to leave, and when he finally did you were already worried. The kids hadn't awakened yet and you knew it would be just another day with them. It wasn't as if you minded; you loved Bard's kids as if they were your own and the feeling was mutual. ''Y/N?'' Bain called from the kitchen where he looked at me gazing out the window.
''Hey, Bain,'' you greeted, ''Are the girls up yet?''
He shook his head and plopped down at the table while rubbing the sleep from his eyes. ''They'll be really excited to see you, though. Sigrid and Tilda have been going on and on about how you should be coming over more often,'' he chuckled at his own words before seeming to recall something, ''Father always blushes whenever they mention you. I think he likes you.'' You sucked in a breath but managed to laugh at his comment. It was hard to hear things like that because it fueled your hope and made you think that something could happen between you and Bard.
''Oh, let's not be silly,'' you laughed shyly and you placed a plate of breakfast in front of him.
He thanked you with a smile before looking around the small space, ''Speaking of father, where is he?''
''He went to take care of the barrels,'' you answered and he groaned in reply. You just shook your head but your smile was soon replaced with surprise when you were tackled by Sigrid and Tilda. They hugged you tightly before releasing you and heading to the table to eat their breakfast. You patted their heads gently and playfully before heading back over to the window to look outside at the awakening lake town. The sun was finishing it's slow rising into the sky and lighting it with bright yellows, blues, and a few dashes of reds. You couldn't help but look out at the stretch of water and try to find Bard's small boat. Surprisingly, you could make out the outline of the tiny boat while it made it's way away from the town. You couldn't help but hope that one day, just maybe, Bard would actually consider you as a romantic option rather than a friend, and that the kids that you loved and that loved you equally would be able to think of you as more.
