"Right now?" I hear Sans say when I wake up.
I sit up and rub my eyes.
"It's now or never." Undyne says.
Sans and I look at each other.
"Give us a few." Sans says.
"T-take all the t-time you n-need." Alphys says and leads Undyne upstairs.
'What's happening?' I sign.
"Alphys is gonna try and get some Determination out of you." Sans answers.
'Can you stay?'
"It wouldn't make a difference. You'll be...sleeping...I guess. She's gotta take your soul out, take some DT, then put it back. That's what's so risky about it. I don't want to scare you but I want you to know, your soul could break outside of your body or it could not go back in, if that makes sense."
I nod and look down. I look back up at Sans and can't help but cry. "I love you, Sans." I say and jump into his arms. "Thank you for everything you've done and helped me
with."
"This isn't our last goodbye, Frisk. You'll be fine. But, I love you too." I can tell he's trying to stay strong. I love his confidence.
I grab his shoulders and kiss him. "Now go before I attack you again."
He kisses me one last time. "Stay strong, don't be scared. I know this'll work."
I smile and watch as he walks upstairs.
Alphys comes down and explains what Sans already explained. I'm not listening. I'm to busy fighting back so many emotions that I forget to breathe at some points.
"Frisk?" Alphys says and waves a hand in front of my face.
"Huh? Sorry, I wasn't listening." I say completely forgetting how to sign.
"As l-long as you're h-holding your soul, it w-won't break s-so I need y-you to-"
I place my hand over my chest and the red glow shines through my hand. It's a lot brighter from the Determination Gaster gave me. Slowly, the light weight of my soul comes into my hand. It, very slowly, leaves my chest and I starts coughing. I'm still alive from just holding it. I hovers only a centimeter above my hand. It's not cracking. That's good.
Alphys places a heavy glass container in front of me. "I-I'll take g-good care of y-you, Frisk, I-I promise. Y-you'll be back t-to normal in n-no time."
I take one last look at my soul and pick up the heavy lid in my other hand. I place my soul in the container and slam the lid on before I basically die and fall back onto the bed.
Sans' POV
I get what I thought was the call from Undyne.
It wasn't.
Frisk is still...dead and her soul is still in a glass container. It's been fixed for six months but it won't transfer back into Frisk's body.
I make my way to their house.
"What do you want to do?" Undyne asks leading me to the basement where Alphys is checking up on Frisk. "We've tried everything and we can't get it back in. It's not like we can keep it out of the container for too long, it'll break then we won't be able to get her back at all."
"So you want to kill her?" I ask.
"It's been six fucking months of trying the same things over and over and over again. We can't just keep her like this forever."
"As long as you have her soul alive, she's not going anywhere. So you want to break her soul and let her actually die?"
"Sans, we've tried literally everything. Nothing is working. We warned you of this!"
"You haven't tried everything."
"Oh come the fuck on, Sans. Look, we're all sorry and we're all really sad to see Frisk like this but we've tried everything about ten times already. You were here for most of that! And when you weren't we told you exactly what we did and why it didn't work. So it's your call, keep her here and keep trying things that don't work for another six months, or end it all."
"We're not killing her." I say.
"Ok. We'll continue wasting time on something that's not going to fucking work! I'm sorry I'm being a bitch but I hate seeing Frisk like this as much as you do. I just want to end this. We're not even sure if the soul will work and if it doesn't, I just want to end everyone's suffering."
"I get that but..."
"But what, Sans?"
"Undyne!" Alphys chimes in. "We'll k-keep trying f-for a little longer. U-unless you have an i-idea. Feel f-free to try."
I look between Frisk's body and her soul. "I got something." I pick up the container and set it next to Frisk. "She's the only one who can take her soul out without it breaking, right?"
"R-right."
"Every time you take her soul out of this," I say and look at the container. "It breaks slightly 'cause it's not protected by Frisk or enclosed in something safe. Then you have to fix it which takes even more time."
"What're you getting at here?" Undyne asks.
"Y-you want F-Frisk to put h-her soul back." Alphys says.
"Bingo." I say and point to Alphys.
"Are you guys on something? That's impossible! She's unconscious and can't move on her own- oh."
I put my hand on top of Frisk's and use my other hand to open the container. I wrap Frisk's fingers around her soul. It doesn't crack or look like it's going to crack.
The room is so silent you could here a pin drop and think it's the loudest thing you've ever heard.
The red glow shines through her and my hand. It's not as bright as it was before. I carefully moves Frisk hand to her chest. Slowly but surly, her soul fades into her chest. I lay Frisk's hand back down and stay by her side.
Nothing happens. She's still not breathing and her heart still isn't beating. But her soul is back inside. I don't get it.
Frisk's POV
I gasp for air and sit up straight. Undyne has her spear pointed at me but quickly puts it down. Everyone looks shocked.
"What, what happened?" I ask.
"I-it worked." Alphys says.
"How?" Undyne says and runs a hand through her hair.
"What worked?" I ask.
Sans snaps out of shock. "We haven't been able to get your soul back in for six months."
"What?!" I scream and hurt my voice.
"B-but you're ok n-now, r-right?" Alphys asks.
I nod.
"So we should keep you here to see if it really worked." Undyne says.
"Y-yes." Alphys answers.
"So I guess we'll leave you two here. If one of you screams I'll be down here." Undyne and Alphys leave the room.
Sans watches closely as they leave. He pulls me into a kiss once they're gone. I push him off of me to catch my breath.
"I gotta breathe, Sans." I say in a very faint voice.
"Sorry, I'm just so happy to see that you're ok." He says and kisses me again. "Everyone thought you'd be gone forever."
"And you didn't?"
"I had some doubt but you're here now, and that's what matters."
I smile and let go of Sans. I stand up without problem. I thought I'd collapse but I feel great! Better than I've ever felt before! I jump into Sans arms and wrap my legs around him. I pull him into yet another kiss.
Sans and I spend the rest of the day in Alphys's mini lab talking and kissing a lot. He said a lot of things to piss my off but I never got mad. I did playfully punch him once and he almost had to knock me out because of it but he didn't. I can finally go home and not be scared of attacking him again.
Alphys checked up on me at the end of the day and let us go.
I finally have my normal life back.
