Chapter Fifty-One
Remember how I said I wanted to dump Drew on the spot along with a tight slap to remember? Well, it didn’t really go according to plan.
Okay, so maybe eavesdropping isn’t the smartest way either, but I can’t just barge in and disrupt the whole conversation right?
“So Drew, how’s that Taylor girl who you’re dating?” asked Jonah.
“Oh, we’re good.” He responded casually.
“You’re not even cheating on her?” the blonde dude asked disbelievingly. Drew didn’t answer, but just laughed. Okay, what was that supposed to mean? “Dude, you’re weird.”
“Then how about the other girl who you’re hanging out with?” asked Stella. What other girl?
“Oh that? We’re nothing.” Said Drew. “I was just messing around.”
The chattering continued as I decided what to do next. So, is he cheating on me or not? His bunch of friends look scary, all full of make up and piercings, some are just over-grown. Should I go in or not? Man, just when everything was going according to plan…
“Are you planning to dump her?” asked one of them.
“Who, Taylor?”
“Yeah, her. Unless you’re dating more than one girl…”
“I thought she was okay, but there’s something about her that annoys me though…” he hesitated. What, is he back stabbing me now?
“What is it?” asked Stella.
“Yeah, what? I love a good gossip.” Added Francesca.
“It’s her so-called best friend Shane.”
“Oh, that dude.” All of them nodded slowly. Wait, how did they know him? Drew must’ve been talking about him behind our backs, hasn’t he?
“I always get a feeling that she’s treating that guy better.”
“Man, you’re jealous?” asked the blonde.
“Yeah, you could say that.” he nodded. “Shane is just some… weird anonymous guy and I really don’t like the way they hang out with each other, it makes me feel uncomfortable.”
“But you’ve gotta still let her hang out with her friends, right?” asked the brunette.
“Of course I’ll let her, it’s not like I’m stopping her now or anything.” He snorted.
“Hey guys.” A girl had walked towards them. Oh wait, isn’t this the girl who had given Shane some tutoring lessons on Chemistry before the exams? The one who was rumored as his girlfriend, Caroline? “What are you all talking about?”
“Oh you know, gossips.” Said Stella plainly. “We were talking about Taylor and his friend Shane.”
“What about Shane?” she asked.
“Drew thinks that he’s stealing his girl.” Teased Jonah.
“Nah, it’s nothing like that.” Drew corrected hastily. “I just don’t like the way they hang out so often, that’s all.”
“But weren’t you friends with him?”
“Ever heard of the word ‘faking’?” he gave a fake smile. “It was just some kind of way I thought that I could get him to stop hanging out with her so often.”
“You can’t do that.” Caroline objected. “That’s just bad.”
“Of course I can.” He chuckled. “That dude’s all wimpy anyway; I could break his bones in less than a minute!”
They laughed evilly and I felt my heart pounding faster. Shane is not wimpy, he’s nothing like how he’d described. Now Drew is just ticking me off.
“Would you just shut up about Shane? He’s nothing like that. You barely even know him.” snapped Caroline. “He’s a really nice guy and by the looks of things he respects your relationship with his best friend. Why can’t you do the same?”
“Whoa, hey, don’t get all snappy all of a sudden.” Said Jonah. “But you’ve got to admit that it’s normal for a boyfriend to be jealous in this situation.”
“I am not jealous.”
“Ugh, you’re such a poor liar.” Stella droned.
Caroline had sighed and walked out of the class. Phew, thank goodness she didn’t see me or…
“Hey, is that Taylor outside?”
Shoot.
I’d panicked and bolted out of the hallway, not looking back at all.
“It really was her!” Stella screamed.
I’ve ran faster until I couldn’t run anymore, and at that time I was standing right in front of Shane’s classroom. I’ve panted and looked back a few times to make sure no one was following me. Heck, why wasn’t I more careful? I hope nobody paid any attention towards what Stella had announced. I really don’t want Drew and his scary friends to know that I was eavesdropping.
Great, another wonderful plan had turned into dust. Why must I always hesitate? If only I didn’t…even if I did, I could’ve immediately walked away right after Caroline left the classroom door open, right? I didn’t have to stone there to wait for someone to see me. I am such a fool.
But through that amount of time I’d realized one thing for sure: Drew is a snobby cheesehead. I know that I’ve said this thousands of times by replacing cheesehead with another word, but this time I’m definite, really, really definite. He’s actually backstabbing my friends, to his bunch of stupid suicidal-looking friends. He was pretending to be friends with Shane for who-knows what purpose?
I can’t really tell how angry I am because right now I just want to get to class and spill out everything to Zoey. She’ll know what to do and plus, Cain will be there to listen; he can probably try to help out to.
Gosh, I’m such a mess. I feel like I’m creating more and more problems each day and I’d really hate to say this, but it had all started with that makeover. Just when I thought that everything felt so right, it starts falling down making me feel uglier by the minute.
I need a break.
* * *
“Why didn’t you dump him and get it over with?” Zoey snapped impatiently.
“It’s not my fault.” I cried helplessly. “Everything was happening so quick and I just hesitated…”
“Why did you have to hesitate?!” she screamed angrily.
“Please, just relax.” Said Cain. “I’m sure yelling won’t do any good.”
“Well yeah, but I can’t believe he’s so mean to Shane!” she huffed. “Who does he think he is? He’s worse than every bloody people who I know for crying out loud!”
“WE all know that he sucks, okay?” I said carefully. “I really want to chop his head off too, you know.”
“Yeah, but you just had to hesitate.”
“Just forget about that already! What must I do now?” I asked desperately.
“Dump. Him.” Zoey glared.
“What she said.” Shrugged Cain.
“Tell me something I don’t know.” I sighed. “This is all thanks to that stupid makeover.”
“What?”
“It was after that that my life started to go downhill from down.” I frowned.
“Oh, so this is my fault?” Zoey looked angry. “We went through so much trouble for that! You just needed a new look so we got you one and now that you have everything you’re wishing that you don’t have them. What’s wrong with you?”
“No, no, I wasn’t blaming you; I was blaming myself for not handling things properly.” I sighed. “I’m such a mess. I screw things up all the time!”
“Hey Cain, we got your text.” Ash and Shane had walked into our class randomly. “What’s up with Drew?”
“I kind of knew that we’d never get along.” Shane yawned. “Did he say anything else?”
“No, I ran off after that.”
“Darn.” Ash frowned. “So what are you gonna do?”
“Dump him.” I muttered. “Which was what I was supposed to do a few hours ago, but I just had to hesitate and chicken out.”
“Yeah, it’s more like you that way.”
“You can say that again. Everyone knows that I can never get anything right. All I ever do is bring destruction, this and that…”
“Why do you try so hard to be perfect?” asked Shane. “People mess up all the time, sometimes that’s the way we grow up.”
“Yeah, but I mess up every time. Name one thing that I’d actually did right.”
All four of them were silent. See, I knew it. I never did anything right before. I’m probably most well-known for my clumsiness and crappiness. Why do I even bother…?
“I’m probably just a no-brainer.” I huffed.
“Gosh you can be so negative sometimes.” Zoey frowned. “Just dump him and get it over with, don’t even care about your so-called ‘feelings’ or try to assume the worst, just do it.”
“Easier said than done.” I smiled wryly. “Are you sure there isn’t a better way that doesn’t involve harsh moments?”
“No.”
“Fine.” I whined. “I’ll do it.”
“For real? No more hesitating? No more turning back?” asked Faith eagerly.
“Yes.”
“Good!” she beamed. “It’s all up to you now.”
