8:20 am | william's penthouse

The doorbell rang, the annoying sound ricocheted off the walls. Who the fuck is ringing at my door at this time of the day? I grabbed the revolver I keep under my pillow and the remote at my bedside. I looked through the cameras, hand cradling the coldness of the gun's metal grip, a finger hovering over the trigger. Although I thought it was too soon for my enemy to know where I was, I enjoyed the rush that the gun gave me. The mentality of having anyone at my feet with just a single blow. I adore seeing crimson. The vibrant color painting the walls, the sickly viscous substance sticking onto the soles of my shoes, tainting my hands. I was made for it but he wasn't, the coward who ran away from home.

"It's me, William."

She was at my door again. She doesn't know the definition of enough. Too much greed for such a young thing. She's just like me; a slave to her own desires. Her sleek figure stood outside the door of a man she doesn't fully know. What a brave girl, this one is. I was right to use her as a tool.

I clicked on a button and the door unlocked by itself. She came in, moving confidently in my space, pompous yet graceful. She held an element of beauty around herself. This woman is no longer a thing of the past. She resembles nothing from her past.

Physically, she has no flaws because I made her perfect. Dressed in designer clothing, she stood tall. Her beauty incomparable because I made her like that. I made her into what she is now but this woman isn't a tad grateful.

"What do you want?" I placed the heavy gun on the table beside my unmade bed. My fingers grazed over the velvet material of my robe, smoothing it over my back in a swift manner, "Didn't I tell you to call beforehand? You know I'm not fond of disobedience."

"You're never fond of anything." She replied with a bored groan. "I came by to tell you the good news. He signed the contract this morning. We have infiltrated his company and soon, I'll get his trust." Yi Na sauntered across the room, to my personal bar. She threw her trench coat aside and went to mix herself a drink. "He doesn't suspect a thing. Jimin, he's still the same as always, too thirsty for his own good."

"I don't fucking care about your own vengeance but bear this in mind. I will fucking kill you myself if you mess up my plans. You should be careful not to give yourself away." I reminded her, the words formed from my tongue were as sharp as a knife but she dodged them all and only smiled in response.

"I understand that you're worried but that won't happen and besides, I have no plans of dying in your hands." She swirled the half filled glass in her pretty manicured hands, "Don't take me lightly. I'm not as foolish as I was before."

"Very well." I fixed myself a drink before staring at the view outside my window, the whole city below bustling below my eye level. Tracing the lines of busy cars, "Now, we wait." A smile cracked along my lips. Soon, he will come looking for me, wanting to put a bullet through this thick skull of mine, wishing so bad he could.

"I invited him to come and play with us." I turned around and found her eyes darted dangerously at me. I wouldn't be surprised if one day, betrayal would come knocking at my door in the form of her with the gun's cold nozzle trained at my head. It wouldn't take long for a greedy girl like her to switch sides so I must act fast.

"I'm well informed." She picked her coat up, smoothing a hand over her fitted dress, "He is the only person you trust after all. Am I right?"

I laughed, "Are you disappointed?"

"No. I have no desire to be around you after this." A thick displeased tone was evident in her voice, "You know what I want."

"Of course." An amused expression came upon my face, "As long as we both know our boundaries, I'm sure we won't have a problem. After this, I might even give you the girl, you can do whatever the hell you want with her. Kill her if you want.."

A smile as corrupted as mine formed on her cherry red painted lips, "That would be my pleasure."

...

Somewhere in the bustling city, a young man was awaiting the higher up's signal for him to execute his task. Dressed in chic casual clothing, the handsome boy had his legs crossed, eyes trained outside the glass window, always staying in the crowd and never exposing himself. The aroma of coffee thickly hung in the room air yet he sipped on a small carton of banana milk.

His phone rang, finally, his orders arrived. The nineteen year old pressed the phone to his ear, he felt relieved to hear the familiar voice of the man who found him and picked him up on the streets. He had thought that he had been abandoned and forgotten by him after having no contact with him for two years.

"How have you been, Mingyu?" William spoke. He had taken quite a liking to the boy. "Or should I say, Ashton, my sweet younger brother. "

"Better than before." The boy smirked, knowing what his words meant to William. "You were silent for two years, brother."

"I had things to do." He said, "I will cut this phone call short." William added, the sternness of his voice made the boy attentive, holding the phone closer to his ear as he await his the next sentences, "I picked you up myself and raised you like family but from now on, you will serve as my Consigliere, my right hand man. By now, I assume you know where your loyalty lies."

"I will only serve you, brother." The boy pledged.

"However, if I find out that you're disobeying me or even doubting my words and acting on your own, I'll have your disloyal ass dead. Understand?"

"Yes, brother." Was the boys soft answer despite the threat that was thrown at him. He knew William. He was raised by him and therefore, disloyalty was not a word in his vocabulary.

"You're a clever kid. As expected from my little brother." William smiled with pride in his chest. "Remember that this is the real world, no one will care if you're just a boy, you fuck up once and you're dead."

"I understand." The boy spoke in a mature manner.

He knew the weight of his actions. He didn't have the luxury of other kids. He didn't have time to have friends. His world was different, his world was the one those people abandoned because they didn't like the violence and the cruelty but this is the truth; the reality of life.

The day William found him was his rebirth. He was hunched up in a dark alley way, beaten harshly by a measly bunch of men pretending to be gangsters. He was just a child but they didn't care, they didn't even blink an eye as they beat him relentlessly. His whole body ached as he lied almost breathless on the cold ground.

"Wake up, kid." He could barely open his eyes as he looked at the face of the man who spoke down on him, "Do you want my help?" He nodded his head even when he knew nothing of the man in front of him. "What's your name?"

He opened his bleeding lips, barely making a sound as he spelled his old name out. Then the man crouched down beside him, his shiny black shoes right at his face, they looked as if they were worth more than his life, "From now on, your name will be Ashton. Accept it. This is the only way you'll be saved."

He was brought to his home. A world that was foreign to the boy. The only face he knew was that of William's but he was seated at the top while he was down at the very bottom.

"Prove yourself to me." William said to the boy one day and so he did.

The boy did nothing but prove his worth. He fought, bled and even killed other people in his journey to the top. His mind was set on one thing, to make William recognize him. The boy grew up and became quite an asset to the mob who became his family, doing various jobs within the organization. A sniper, an information broker, it didn't matter what kind of job he took. He excelled in everything because he needed to live up to the name that was given to him.

author's note;
