-Shelby's POV-

Hunter:)- I'm outside:)

Hunter's text read.

I ran over to my mirror, making sure I looked alright, and then began to leave my house.

Before I opened the front door, I grabbed my heavy winter jacket, and some warm gloves because it's about 34 degrees outside.

I never liked the winter. It was always too cold for me.

The only nice memories were when Hunter and I would go outside and make snow angels together. After we did that, we would go sledding. I really do miss the old days.

I walked out the door, and instantly felt like I was an ice cube.

I looked up and Hunter was standing there smiling.

His smile made me feel warm.

Any girl would be falling head over heels for him with just that one smile spread across his face, including me.

"Hey Shelbs!" Hunter greeted me.

"Hi Hayes!" I said, jumping into the passenger side seat, after he opened the door for me.

"You ready for the game?" He asked me as he got into his side of the car and turned the keys.

"I'm not sure. I mean, I'm ready for the game itself, just not so sure about the weather." I said, laughing.

"You've never liked the cold." He said. I shook my head. "Well dont ya worry. I will keep you warm." He said.

The sides of my lips grew into a smile, and my face went red.

I reached up to the dash of the car and turned the heat on full blast.

"Wow Shelby! You must be cold!" He laughed.

"I'm freezing!" I said shivering.

We both laughed as he took off down the road towards school.

I got out of the car after he parked, instantly putting my coat on and my gloves.

Hunter laughed at me, but I just laughed with him.

He joined me at the front of the car and we walked in together.

He paid for my ticket like he always does, and then we started to walk over to the bleachers to find a seat for us.

When we found one, we sat down next to eachother, but we sat closer than normal, this time our legs were touching eachothers.

Soon, the National Anthem played, and the game started.

"Hey, I will be right back!" Hunter said as he stood up to leave.

"Uh, ok." I said, missing him sitting so close to me.

He walks off as I just sat there and watched the game.

Our team has already made 2 touchdowns in the first 5 minutes of the game.

I guess you could say we are pretty good...

A few minutes later, Hunter returned by my side.

"Here you go!" Hunter said, handing me a cup.

"Thanks." I said as I took it.

I took a sip of it, but cautiously.

"Thanks Hunt. I like hot chocolate." I said taking another sip.

"I know you do.." He winked.

-3rd quarter-

I saw something white floating in the air.

Wondering what it was I looked up in the sky to see more coming.

Snow!

"Hunter, look, its snowing!" I said, fascinated by the snow.

He laughed. "Yea it is."

I started shivering. It's too cold!

I felt two arms wrap around me.

I looked over to see that it was Hunter's.

"What are you doing?" I asked him, laughing.

"I told you I would keep you warm. I meant it." He said, still keeping his arms around me.

I started to blush.

"Thanks." I said.

He nodded his head. "Anything for you."

That made my heart skip a few beats.

I'm falling hard for my best friend...

-After the game-

-Hunter's POV-

It felt so good to hold Shelby in my arms, even though it wasn't for long. But the best thing is, is that I get to hang out with her tonight!

We are in my car driving back home from the freezing cold game.

"So, what do you want to do?" I asked Shelby.

"What do you mean?"

"I told you today, that since I kept blowing you off, that I would hang out with you tonight. Soooo, what do you want to do?"

"Uhh...I dont care." She said.

Ugh! I want to do something that she would like to do.

"Just tell me!" I said, urging her to tell me.

"I dont know, as long as we are together, I am fine with it." Right after Shelby said that, she looked like she was embarrassed.

I just laughed.

I pulled into my driveway and hopped out, running over to her side to open the door for her.

"Follow me..." I said leading her to my house.

I opened the front door and allowed Shelby to go infront of me.

"Hey kids! How was the game?" My father asked us.

"It was great! We won 56 to 0." Shelby answered. She has always loved football, but she does competitive cheerleading.

Her practices start up soon.

"That's fantastic! Well what are you guys going to be doing?" My dad asked.

"Were gonna be downstairs." I told him.

"Ok, I will see you guys later." He said.

I took Shelby's hand in mine and pulled her down to my finished basement.

It has wood floors, a big screen TV, a Refrigerator, a big couch, and a bathroom.

The walls are white and the ceiling is white also.

I pulled Shelby over to the couch and sat down next to her.

I grabbed the remote and turned the TV on to one of her favorite shows to watch on a Friday night...Ghost Adventures.

Shelby put her head on my shoulder about 15 minutes in, letting her long dark brown hair fall on my chest.

I wish Shelby was mine so I could hold her without it being weird, and me having to make up a dumb excuse to hold her.

Shelby balled her legs up and put them on mine, snuggling up against me. It felt so right.

"Are you tierd?" I asked Shelby.

She nodded her head "yes."

"Ok. Well, I guess I should get you home-"

"No!" She cut me off. "Can I just stay here for the night?" She asked me.

"Of course." I told her, smiling.

My parents wont care.

If it were any other girl, then it would be a different story. But its not any other girl. It's the girl I have had in my life since I was a baby. It's the girl that would play with me outside on the playset when we were kids. It's the girl that I would run around and play tag with at the playground. It's the girl that trusted me to drive her around the day I got my liecense. It's the girl who got me the record deal. It's the girl who I have had a crush on for as long as I could remember. It's the girl..... that I love with all my heart.

My parents love her too. She's like a daughter to them, and shes the only girl that they trust around me.

The only girl that I trust.

-Morning-

"Hunter wake up! HUNTER GET UP!!!" I heard a sweet voice yell and shake me awake.

I opened my eyes and Shelby was above me with a smile on her face.

I smiled back.

"You're finally awake!" She joked.

"Sorry bout that." I said.

"You're ok!" She smiled. "So, Cameron texted you and invited us over today!" Shelby said excitedly.

"Wait..you read my text?" I asked joking.

"It's not the first time Hayes..." She said matter-of-factly.

"I know, I know."

She laughed and grabbed my hand, pulling me upstairs.

"Hi Lynette!" Shelby said walking into the kitchen and sitting down at the counter.

"Hi Shelby! How are you?" My mom asked.

"I'm doing great. How about you?"

"Fantastic!" Mom said, sitting a bowl infront of Shelby and the seat next to her. "Hunter, go eat." Mom said, motioning towards the seat next to Shelby.

I gladly walked over and took a seat. Then taking a spoonfull of Lucky Charms and stuffing them in my mouth.

"Cameron said he wants us to be there around 2." Shelby said, breaking the silence that was about to start.

"Ok...did he know he was texting you?" I asked her, worried that he would say something about me liking her.

"Yea, he first texted you and said, 'hey, you and Shelby wanna come over later?' and I texted back and said 'hey it's Shelby, Hunter is sleeping and sure!' and he texted back 'ok! Sounds great, there will be a lot of people there, including Alexis. Be there around 2.' and I texted back, 'ok see yawl there.'"

I laughed hiding my sigh of relief. "Ok. Well we will leave around 1:30." I told her.

"Ok." She said, picking up a marshmallow and eating it from her cereal.

She hates milk. She wont put it in her cereal or drink it. I think it's kind of weird...

After Shelby finished her cereal, she grabbed her phone and left my house to go get ready since it was already 12:56. I slept for a long time!

I ran up to my bedroom and shut my door behind me.

Before I started to pick out clothes, I looked over at Shelby's window. Her blind was down which means she's getting dressed.

-Shelby's POV-

I spent a whole night with Hunter last night without any interruptions!

I miss being able to do the every night, but I guess that's how the music industry is.

I ran to the bathroom and started to straighten my hair.

As I looked in the mirror my far dropped. I look horrible! I have a huge rats nest on the side of my head from where I slept and my hair was really wavy. How could Hunter not have told me that I looked horrible?!

After my straightener heated up, I started to do my hair, making sure it was stick straight.

I smiled at myself in the mirror after I applied a small amount of makeup on.

I've never really been a fan of a lot of makeup. I never wear foundation or powder on my face.

I walked out of the bathroom and back into my room to grab my phone.

I checked the time. It was 1:26.

I ran down the steps, grabbing my jacket, and walked out the door.

Hunter was waiting in his car with a smile in his face.

I walked over to my side and got in. "Hey Hunter." I said as I buckled up my seatbelt.

"Hey Shelbs." Hunter said as he began to pull out of my driveway.

"Why do you always drive over to my driveway when I can easily walk over to yours and get in your car?" I asked.

"Maybe I dont want to make you walk..." He said, stickin his tongue out.

"You used to!" I said, remembering when he first got his license he would make me walk over to his driveway to get in.

"Well, I'm not stupid now." He said.

"Who told you that?" I asked, jokingly.

He punched my arm lightly and I began to laugh.

"So, when are you starting your cheer practices back up?" He asked more seriously.

"Tomorrow." I simply said. "After church."

"Oh, ok. I will drive you there!" He said.

"It's ok, I can drive myself."

"Nope. I'm driving you."

I rolled my eyes. "You're so stubborn!" He laughed.

About 10 minutes later, we pulled into Cameron's driveway.

I hopped out of Hunter's car and started walking towards the house.

Hunter caught up with me and knocked on the door.

Cameron's mom opened the door. "Hi Shelby, Hi Hunter. How are you guys?"

"Great, how about you Jane?" I asked.

"Fantastic! Now, come on in, I dont want you guys to freeze to death! Cameron and everybody else are upstairs if you want to go on up."

We took a step into the house.

"Ok, thank you!" Hunter said, taking my hand and interwining our fingers, and pulling me upstairs with him.

Hunter opened the door and we both stepped in.

"Look who decided to show up!" Cameron said walking over to us.

Hunter and I laughed.

"Oh Shelby, Alexis cant make it it till later. I'm sorry, she had to work. I guess your stuck here with just guys." Cameron said.

Great! I get to hang out with a bunch of guys that will be talking about sports and stupid stuff.

"Ok that's fine...what's later?" I asked.

"Oh, we are having a bonfire if you guys want to stay for that."

"Yea, that sounds like fun!" Hunter said nudging me with his shoulder. I nodded in agreement.

Cameron stepped away from us which allowed me to scan the room.

Teenagers were everywhere. Some playing ping pong, some playing x box, some talking. And out of everyone, I'm the ONLY girl. Why?!

Hunter and I stand there for a second while he looks around the room for some of his friends.

He finds someone and I follow behind.

"Hey man!" Ryan, Hunter's friend said patting him on the back.

"Hey dude, whats up?" Hunter asked.

"Nothing man. What about you?" Ryan asked again.

"The usual." Hunter said.

Guys have the weirdest conversations!

"So, whats going on between you guys?" Ryan asked pointing to both of us.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

He pointed down to our hands, still intertwined. I just noticed that I have been holding his hand this whole time.

I let go of his hand as if it would erase what just happened.

"Nothing." I said, wishing it was more than nothing.

Hunter smiled, but looked a little upset. "Yea, nothing."

"Oh, ok." Ryan answered.

Hunter took a seat on the couch in the corner of the room as I just stood there. There was no extra room on the couch.

I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see who it was and found Aaron (Hunter's friend) standing there.

"Hey." I greeted him.

"Hey." He said back to me. "So, are you staying for the bonfire tonight?"

"Uh yea. I think. Hunter said we were."

"You know what I think?" Aaron asked.

"Hmm?"

"You and Hunter. Together. Cute." He said making a heart with his hands when he said cute which caused me to start laughing.

"You're so weird." I said nudging him with my shoulder.

"No, I'm serious Shelby. You guys are meant to be. You may not see it right at the moment, but just wait."

I see it. I just dont think Hunter see's it.

"Look at you trying to be a matchmaker." I said.

"Well you know. Thats going to be my job someday." Aaron said winking.

"Sure it is." I said rolling my eyes.

I quickly looked over to see what Hunter was doing.

He was still sitting in the exact same spot talking to his friends. I smiled to myself.

"Hey Shelby, can you go get me a water?" Cameron yelled from behind me.

"Yea, sure." I said walking out of the room tightly packed with boys.

Thank The Lord I could get out of there. Too many boys...too many.

I walked down the stairs and to the kitchen. Cameron's mom was in there standing over the mixing bowl.

"Hi sweetie, what are you doing down here?" She asked me.

"Oh, uh, Cameron asked me to get him some water." I told her.

"That lazy boy! Here you go." She said handing me a bottle of water.

"Thank you." I said.

"You're welcome. Now sweetie, I have been wondering, whats the deal between you and Hunter?"

"Oh....we're just friends."

"Wow, you act like boyfriend and girlfriend. I really think that you guys should be together."

I laughed, because I practically just had this same conversation with Aaron.

"Do you like him?" She asked me, getting more serious.

I nodded my head not able to answere this out loud, afraid that someone could possibly hear me.

"I thought you did. Why aren't you guys a couple."

"Well. I guess it's the fact that I like him and I'm afraid to say it and me knowing that he doesn't like me anymore than a bestfriend." I said shrugging my shoulders.

"Oh hun, you can think that all you want, but just remember you never no until you find out for yourself." I nodded. "No get back up to the party." She said urging me up the stairs.

I followed her directions and walked back in the room. It was completely silent and all eyes were on me. It was like everybody froze.

Is there something wrong? What did I do?

Ignoring it, I walked over to Cameron and gave him the drink.

"Thanks." He said as he took the bottle from my hand.

Conversations started back up, still leaving me wondering what they were talking about when I left the room.
