Hello :)

Just a friendly reminder: There's a prologue in this story! :D feel free to read it if you haven't.

Anyway, here's Chapter One. I know it's a bit corny, this chapter is mainly focused on the Introductions. Don't worry, I don't have a lot of characters :)

I'm still nervous about my story writing ability :S I guess I'm not to perfect at it. I'd love to receive some feedback about my story writing, at least I get to know what I can improve on, so I'd appreciate it if you would comment :D

Thanks for stopping by! It means a lot to me.

I hope you'll enjoy reading!

Chapter One

“Wake up, would you?! Its half past seven and you’re terribly late!” Tessa banged the door with her fists rudely, causing an unwanted commotion on a not-so peaceful morning.

“Would you just shut up already?!” I shouted, face flatly against the pillow. The coziness of the pillow is just too tempting, but either way I still had to get up.

I got dressed and practically ran down the stairs without looking at the mirror. I’m not even going to take a look at my crazy hair, so don’t get me started.

“Gosh you’re early.” Tessa rolled her eyes showing a hint of annoyance.

Tessa is my bossy older sister who can never leave me alone without nagging. With her being one year away from reaching twenty-one, she’s probably going to try acting mature or taking over mom’s place when she’s not around. Unlike me, Tessa has perfect straight hair which doesn’t get all over the place and has perfect teeth and gorgeous eyes.

“Where’s mom?” I asked, ignoring her comment.

“She left early for grocery shopping and she literally commanded me and told me to make sure that you’re not going to be late again! Like last week…”

“Would you just forget about last week?”

I swallowed a few cakes and drained my cup of milk before I bolted out of the house, trying to tie my shoelaces properly without getting one of my fingers stuck in between them.

“Hurry up! We don’t have the whole world’s time here.”

I jumped into the car and pulled the door shut. Maybe she’d stop talking now. Unfortunately, I’ve spoken too soon.

“If mom asks me why you’re late again, you’d better consider sleeping with one eye open tonight.”

                                                *        *        *

Thank God, I wasn’t late!

“Oh darn, I thought you’d appear later than last week.” Zoey pouted, unsatisfied.

“Yeah, and I thought you were a great friend.” I sulked.

“Aw, c’mon! You can’t be serious!” she groaned.

Zoey has been friends with me since like forever (Okay, not forever, maybe she’s my first friend?) and if there’s one thing about her that I dislike, that’d have to be her habit of always wanting to see me get into trouble in order to fulfill her daily needs. Honestly, she’s quite a handful. I envy her a little too, despite that she has brown smooth hair and she’s a few centimeters taller than me.

“And by the way, Zoe, please be a friend and drop whatever happened last week, okay? I’ve been getting that a lot from home so don’t bring it here.” I said through gritted teeth, heading towards my locker.

“Fine. You’re always so moody.” She sighed. “Oh, have you seen Shane? He owes me five bucks.”

“I just got here and what makes you thing I did?”

I had ignored her after the bell rang and headed straight for class. I grabbed a seat by the corner and tried to press my hair to prevent it from blocking some other guy’s view.

“What’s up Taylor?” a voice greeted me from behind.

          “Hi Cain.” I greeted half-heartedly.

          “Bad day?”

“And it’s getting worse.” I flopped lazily onto the desk.

Cain happens to be Zoey’s boyfriend of two years. I wasn’t entirely convinced when he said they’d only held hands and did nothing more than that last week when I met him. But I wouldn’t protest. Cain had blonde hair with brown roots and had a pair of brown eyes. He’s much taller than I am, roughly around six feet? I don’t know, I’m a sucker at estimation. Cain is also the most intelligent one in the group, the only one who’s got their brain working, at least. Getting a B on every subject must be his weakness, I think.

“Have you seen Zoey?” he asked nervously.

“Have you not?” I asked, slowly lifting my head up.

“Have you?” he repeated, more firmly this time.

          “Maybe. Why?”

“Nah, nothing, just wondering.” He looked around innocently. I know that look.

          “What did you do?”

“What? Nothing. What’d I do? It’s not like I didn’t sorta’ stood her up on a Friday night because I had to run some errands for my mom.” He made a face.

“You make a horrible boyfriend.” I blurted.

“C’mon! Be more supportive! This dude has been through a lot over the weekends, ya’ know?” said Cain.

          “No, I don’t know.”

“Okay, quiet down class, we’re a little behind schedule and time waits for no one. Let’s begin.” Mr. Mortmain popped right in front of the class and starts his low-pay job.

As Mr. Mortmain continues with his boring lecture, Cain wouldn’t stop poking me on the arm, pestering me for answer about Zoey the whole time.

          “Was she mad?”

          “No.” I grunted.

“Did she show any mad expression at all? Like anger?” He asked again. I shot him a baleful stare as he relented. “I mean, after all, anger is just one letter short from the word danger, right?”

“Have you apologized to the girl?” I murmured, half-listening to Mr. Mortmain’s lecture about Mangrove trees and Cain sweating over somebody who’s not that much of a worth.

          “Yes!”

          “Well, there you have it.”

“No I don’t have it! She kept ignoring my phone calls and she avoided conversations with me this morning when I walked her to school. Oh, the agony!” he said dramatically.

“Shut up, Cain. Sometimes your relationship with Zoey doesn’t seem to go anywhere.” I winced.

“Well, could you be more supportive?” he frowned.

          “Like I said, NO.”

                                                *        *        *

The final bell took forever to ring, but it pretty well did anyway, and I was sure I was the first one to disappear in class. I ran hastily into my locker, wanting to get this day over with and soak myself in the bathtub.

“Taylor,” I heard someone else say. I turned around and sighed.

          “Shane,”

“I didn’t see you the whole day. Were you late?”

“Heck no, I wasn’t. You seem to assume that everyday now.” I made a face.

I knew Shane shortly after I knew Zoey, and well, that kind of makes him my second friend I guess. Shane is a year older than me and had black hair that happens to look too long (he said that he was going to get a hair cut soon, but only God knows when) and wears a pair of spectacles. Shane is one of those people who I’ve always admired, inside though. It’s not everyday that you get to meet a nice guy who isn’t a jerk in disguise. However, his annoying and overly carefree behavior occasionally ticks me off, but I’ll let it slide.

          “Where’s Ash?” I asked casually.

“He’s staying back for practice, as always.” He gave a wry smile.

          “What about Faith?”

          “She’s with Zoey, somewhere…”

“Gosh, Zoe, sometimes I think you’re too harsh.” Faith appeared by magic before us, talking to Zoey about something.

“I wasn’t! Look, Faith, when you date a guy and if you’re unlucky enough like me to have him do the same thing to you, you’ll understand.” Said Zoey.

Faith is probably the sweetest girl and the youngest one here. Her sweet smile is impossible to ignore, not to mention she’s rather attractive. Shane and I first met her in church last year and she just happens to be studying here too. She has reddish-brown hair with natural curls and a pair of blue eyes. She’s a little shorter than me though, but it suits her because she’s the kind of girl who is born with small features. She’s also known as the ‘holy one’, since none of us have ever heard her swear or saw her doing ‘unholy stuff’.

“Is this concerning about Cain?” asked Shane.

“Yes, duh.” Said Zoey incredulously. “Wait, how’d you know?”

“Well, he was constantly blowing my cell phone with his missed calls, saying something about a stood up and about you practically pointing a gun towards his head.” He hesitated.

“I’m not letting him off so easily.” She puffed.

“Boy would I hate to be in his position.” Faith murmured silently to no one in particular.

          “You’ll forgive him eventually, right?”

“Maybe.” Said Zoey mulishly. “Sometimes you just gotta play hard to get.” She winked. “Alright peeps, I’m leaving just to make sure Cain doesn’t catch up with me and apologize, not that he hasn’t.”

          “You’re a cruel girl.” I winced.

          “Sure took you long enough.”
