I stared at my outfit nervously as I finished getting ready for Dawn's funeral. Her dad asked me to come and even though I wouldn't know anyone there I decided to go anyways.
August volunteered to go with me but I knew he didn't do well with funerals so I'm grateful he pushed that to the side for me.
After he got out the hospital we spent time with his family even though he couldn't do much. I met his nieces' mom and she was beautiful and cool just how I imagined. We had a sleep over and celebrated August birthday. This time we actually got to eat the cake.
"You ready?" August spoke, standing behind me.
I nodded my head and turned around to adjust his shirt. He kissed my forehead and wrapped his arms around me.
I sighed. "I'm ready." I told him.
I grabbed my bag and walked downstairs. The girls waited by the door with open arms. We did a group hug then we left out the door.
On the way to the grave site, where the funeral was being held it started raining. August hand gripped my thigh while he drove with his left hand. The ride was quiet besides the rain hitting the windshield.
I stayed in the car once he parked. We were running behind so we didn't get a good place to park. August went to the trunk to get the umbrella then came around to my side. He opened the door and helped me out.
"August the umbrella all on your side." I complained as we walked up the hill.
"Well if you scooted your ass over here you would be dry."
I stood as close as I could next to him. "And stop being mean."
"I'm not bein' mean." He replied, as we walked up the hill.
I was slipping cause the rain and the ground didn't mix. August kept laughing but I didn't find it funny.
"You could help me." I mumbled.
"Nope since I'm mean."
I stood in the same spot as he walked ahead of me. He turned around after he noticed I wasn't walking. He came back and shook his head while I folded my arms.
"So damn dramatic." He picked me up with his free arm and continued walking.
"August stop." I demanded.
"Fawn I'm not in the mood right now."
"Me either, just stop being an ass." I rolled my eyes.
"Please be quiet." He mumbled.
I sighed and laid my head on his shoulder. I understand he don't like funerals but he doesn't have to be rude. He sat me back on my feet once we got to the site and went to find seats under the tent.
Michael walked over and I stood up. We shared a hug and he turned to August. They shared a look before he turned his attention back towards me. I reminded myself to ask August about it later.
"Thanks for coming." He smiled.
"The least I could do, she was my twin." I half smiled.
He nodded his head and walked to his seat after thanking me again. I looked completely lost but everyone just kept staring at me. They were whispering to each other the least they could was come up to me and say something.
"I shouldn't have came." I turned to August, feeling uncomfortable.
"You'll be aight'. We hea' now."
I sighed as the ceremony started. I hugged on August arm like a lost child and prayed this would be over very soon.
Throughout the funeral, they talked about how an amazing person Dawn was. How she was smart and just a very loved person. They even spoke about my mom. Saying she was now with her in heaven. My farther shared a few words along with some other people. After the ceremony, when it came down to lay her casket some people were crying out loud and August and I felt each other discomfort. It felt awkward since we were like the only people who weren't crying. I mean I did just meet her so I basically didn't even know her.
We held each other hands as we placed a rose on top of her casket. Going back to our seats the stares from people never ended. I held my head low and walked over to Michael.
"Hey we're going to head out."
"Your not going to the repast?" He asked.
"No I'm kinda tired, but thanks." I smiled.
"Ok but I'll give you a call so we can meet up and talk."
"Alright bye and I'm sorry for your loss."
We shared a quick hug then August and I left. We walked back down the hill where the car was parked and got inside.
"You hungry?" August asked, buckling his seatbelt.
"Not really, but you want to go eat somewhere?"
"Yeah we can." He put the car in drive and pulled off.
"That was really awkward babe."
"Sure was, everyone was starin' at yo ass."
"That kinda pissed me off. They could've at least came up to me."
"They was probably nervous."
"I guess." I said, not believing that.
"You and Michael know each other?" I asked since he didn't say anything.
"Some like dat'."
"How?"
"I'll tell you another time."
"You can tell me now."
"Fawn, please. I will tell you another time." I could tell he was getting frustrated so I just dropped it.
I was ready to go home and get in my bed. I really didn't want to meet up with Michael but I did have a lot of questions that I could finally ask and move on with my life. It was weird they spoke on my mom today. It's like she was involved in Dawn's life, so I'm guessing Michael talked to Dawn about her. I just wished I got to know her before she died.
A U G U S T
"Don't go please." Fawn begged.
"I'm coming back Fawn." I pried her arms from around me.
"August." She whined.
"Why you actin' like this? I said I'm comin' back damn."
She didn't say anythin' else while I slid on my shoes. I don't know why she was actin' crazy. I fed her and we came home and took a nap together. I been with her all day.
"What's wrong?" I looked at her.
"Nothing, leave me alone." She turned her back against me.
"Aight'."
"Don't come back either." She mumbled.
I laughed amused at her tactics. "This my house."
"Then I'll leave." She shrugged.
"Fawn lay your ass down somewhea'."
I went to her side of the bed and pecked her lips, but she wiped her mouth.
"Fawn."
"August."
"I love you baybeh."
She didn't say anythin' so I made my way out the room. "Love you too." I heard her say before I closed the door.
I smirked and walked down the long steps. I turned the corner and walked down the hallway that led to the door.
"Aight' what's the word?" I questioned Killa and Quan.
"Some nigga named Marco." Quan answered.
I looked at the picture that sat in front of me.
"He use to work for Michael." I stated.
"Yeah."
"You wouldn't believe this shit."
"What?" They both said.
"The girl he killed, Fawn twin. That's their dad."
"Say swear." Killa replied.
I looked at him with no expression and his eyes widened.
"Damn, you better tell Fawn to stay away from his ass."
"She don't know anything but he was sizin' me up earlier at Dawn funeral." I shrugged.
"I would've barried his old ass right next to his daughter." Quan laughed.
"I'an trippin' as long as he don't start anythin'."
"But I'm tryin' to figure out why Marco firin' shots."
"We know where he at."
"Let's go then."
"And word around is people waitin' on your club to open since that shooting happened they skeptical about going back." Killa grinned.
I laughed. "I'an even have to do anythin'."
We took my car over to the hotel that nigga Marco was stayin' at. I parked near the entrance and we got out. I guess people didn't know my past and if he thought he was goin' to get away with this shit he betta' guess again. But what he don't know is he killed the wrong person. I'm sure Michael know who did it buy now so either he about to go into hidin' or his ass just don't care.
We stepped out the elevator and walked to his room. I put my ear on the door and heard the tv goin'. I simply knocked and covered his peep hole. The locks turned and he swung the door open.
I pulled my gun out and snatched his ass up. He held his hands up and watched as Killa closed the door.
"Who you workin' for?"
"Nobody man, I just take the price off people heads."
"So who the fuck you tried to off?" I asked calmly.
"Some bitch named Fawn."
I scrunched up my face and looked back at Killa and Quan. They shrugged and looked confused as well.
"Who paid you?"
I could feel myself gettin' heated and if I just happened to pull the trigger right now he'll be sol.
"I can't tell you. I just get paid and do my job. This shit ain't personal man."
I chuckled. "And if I pull this trigger this shit ain't personal either jus' know dat'."
"Alright wait, some girl named Diamond but don't-" I sent a bullet through his head before he could finish.
This bitch really had some nerve. But I wasn't going to say anythin' yet. Ima' play it off and if dat' baby mine ima' take care of my kid and she ain't gon' have shit to do with my him/her but if it ain't ima' give her two days to disappear and if I see her ass again, that's it for her.
"I'll call somebody to clean this up." Quan spoke.
"I knew that bitch was a snake." Killa said.
I walked in the house at three in the mornin'. After getting Marco straight I chilled with my bro's. I made my way to my room but did a detour. I walked to diamond's room and opened her door. She was comin' out the bathroom with a towel around her.
"What the hell August!" She held her chest.
"My bad, jus' came to check on you."
She smacked her teeth and rolled her eyes. "Now you wanna come check on me? What fawn ain't laying it down right?" She smirked.
Yeah ten times better and I actually can feel something.
"Don't worry bout' her."
"I actually went to the doctor August and the first doctor messed up my results so I'm actually not that far along like they thought." She sighed.
"How far along are you?"
"Like two months."
I looked at her like she was stupid. Two months ago I didn't sleep with her ass.
"Are you even pregnant?" I raised my eyebrows.
"What? Yes!"
"Diamond, I didn't sleep with you two months ago."
"I kept your sperm cause I knew you wouldn't give me a family."
I walked towards her bold ass and she backed up. She tried to run into the bathroom but I grabbed her arm. I wrapped her hair around my hand and titled her head back.
"When my kid gets here I want nothin' to do with you." I gritted.
The tears started pourin' out of her eyes but I wasn't fallin' victim for it.
I looked into her eyes. "Bitch do you hear me?"
She nodded her head quickly and I let her go. She fell to the ground and started sobbin'. I really didn't care, she could throw all the fits she wanted. She better be lucky I didn't kill her along with her friend.
He played dumb like he didn't know me or Diamond. She been messin' with his ass for the longest and when I confront him he want to act like a bitch.
"Fuck you August! Your not taking my baby!" She yelled.
"If it's even mine." I closed the door and heard her throwin' stuff around.
I went into my bedroom and stripped down to my briefs. Fawn was sprawled out on the bed. I cut her lamp off and laid down next to her.
"August?"
"What girl?" I groaned.
She turned around and scooted closer to me.
"Nah' you wanna have an attitude." I pushed her away.
"You did too."
She came back over and I shook my head. She always made someone mad then try to act sad when you say somethin' back.
"Goodnight baby."
"Night mama." I wrapped my arms around her and fell asleep.
