A lady in black entered the conference room and announced it to Vanraj and Kavya, who were sitting in silence, praying for this nightmare to end.

They knew that they had to do the press conference today itself but they were hoping for some miracle to come and save them, especially Vanraj who had pinned all his hopes on Anupama to come and convince Anuj to spare them the humiliation.

However, the summon for the press conference was here and it seemed Anupama could be seen nowhere.

Toshu aur Pakhi Anupama ko nahi mana paaye kya?

The thought filled him with fear and he looked at Kavya in anticipation, hoping that she had some alternative plan or idea to avoid all this but a lost Kavya had already given up a while ago.

Kavya:- I told you V.....it won't work.....aab kuch aur karke sab bigadne se accha hai.....ki yeh press conference me maafi maang ke sab khatam karte hai !!

She told him to stop concocting his futile plans and give up but Vanraj wasn't ready to accept it.

He turned towards the door where the lady, who had come to escort him and Kavya, was standing and realized that it was no one but Vikram's secretary Ishika.

Vanraj:- Excuse me Ishika.

He called out to Ishika as he stood up from his seat and walked up to her, hoping to inquire about something before the press conference and Kavya followed him.

Ishika:- Yes Mr. Shah.....how can I help you?

She asked Vanraj politely even though she hated his guts at the moment and Vanraj could tell that from the look on her face.

However, he ignored it and went on to inquire about Anupama.

Vanraj:-Is Anupama here?.....Kya wo abhi tak office aayi hai?

He questioned Ishika, hoping for a yes but Ishika refused to answer him.

Ishika:- Sorry Mr. Shah but mai Anupama mam ke whereabouts ka track nahi rakhti.

She said in a cold tone, in order to remind him that it was none of his business and Vanraj's face turned red hearing her refer to Anupama as mam.

He couldn't tolerate the fact that Anupama was being addressed with the same respect that once he used to get in this office in which he was, now, being treated a criminal.

Kavya noticed the look on his face change and tried to calm him down by holding his hand.

Kavya:- V.....please control !!

She let out in a whisper and Vanraj closed his eyes to relax himself hearing her while Ishika reminded the duo that they were getting late for the press conference.

Ishika:- Anyways.....it's getting late.....can you please both follow me?

She requested, wanting to finish her job of escorting them as quickly as possible and both Vanraj and Kavya, having no choice, followed her.

As they passed through the corridor, they noticed every employee in the room looking at them in abhorrence. The eyes that had once held respect for them now held disgust for what they had done and not being able to meet those, both Vanraj and Kavya looked down in embarrassment.

They might not have felt guilty for what they have done but the look on everyone's face surely made them feel ashamed of being paraded like that. They no longer had the privilege of putting all the blame on Anupama as their truth was out in the open for the world to see.

From janitors and the watchmen in the building to the board of directors, everyone they had once worked with or had worked for now knew that they were the people who not only defrauded the company but framed an innocent person for it.

They were a criminal in their eyes and they felt like one when the sound of underlying whispers reached their ears.

They knew what everyone was discussing or talking about even though they couldn't hear it clearly. They wanted to leave that corridor as soon as possible, not wanting to face or hear those people but the deliberate slow pace of Ishika wasn't making it easy for them.

Hence, both of them kept darting their eyes to avoid everyone's gaze and tried to stroll through it, especially Vanraj who just couldn't handle the embarrassment he was going through and kept looking down, not knowing how to face it.

The memory of Anupama walking through the same corridor in embarrassment after being humiliated by him and the entire office crossed his mind and he couldn't believe that instead of her, today it was him facing the same fate.

None of this would have happened if Anuj hadn't come back from US.....none of this.....none of these people would have been accusing him instead of Anupama....if Anuj hadn't been here to clear her name.....never in her life.....Anupama would have betrayed him if it wasn't for Anuj.....it's all him....he is the root cause of everything wrong going on in his life.

The thought kept propping up in his mind while he tried to navigate through the pool of employees, gossiping about him.

His anger towards Anuj knew no bounds and it kept surging with every hushed accusation that was being hurled at him through eyes in the silence of the crowd.

People in there loathed him and Kavya and it became quite evident when one of them called him out.

Mr. And Mrs. Shah.

Kavya and Vanraj heard someone roar their name amidst the crowd and they turned around along with Ishika to look at him.

However, as soon as they did, they realized it was no one but a senior employee from the bid research team named Vinay Ahuja, who they manipulated into believing that Anupama was behind the bid leak.

They were stunned to hear him holler their name in the middle of the corridor but soon their shock turned into embarrassment as Mr. Ahuja walked towards them, clapping his hands in unison and a few people, who were up until now busy in their work, not noticing the duo, shifted their gaze towards them.

Mr. Ahuja:- Waah Mr. And Mrs. Shah waah.....abhi bhi aap dono me itni himmat hai ki itna kuch karne ke baad bhi.......aap humare office me itni besharmi se ghum rahe hai.

He taunted the duo for having no shame as he came and stood in front of them but Ishika tried to stop him.

Ishika:- Vinay sir....please abhi mujhe inhe leke press conference area me jaana hai....Anuj sir ka order hai.

She cited Anuj's orders but Mr. Ahuja assured her that it won't take long.

Mr. Ahuja:- Ishika just a minute.

He said in a soft tone and Ishika backed off for a bit as Mr. Ahuja turned towards Vanraj and Kavya who were already taken aback by his earlier comment.

Mr. Ahuja:- So Mr. Shah.....mere sawal ka jawab dijiye.....itna kuch karne ke baad aapki yaha aane ki himmat kaise hui?

He asked again in an attempt to vent out the pent up anger towards Vanraj that he has been carrying for days but Vanraj tried to avoid dealing with him at the moment.

Vanraj:- Mai aapke kisi sawal ka jawab dena zaroori nahi samajhta....Mr. Ahuja.

He stated in a straight tone before he turned to leave along with Kavya but Mr. Ahuja stopped him.

Mr. Ahuja:- Lekin aapko dena padega Mr. Shah.....you have to explain yourself.....aapne sirf is company ke saath hi nahi.....mere saath bhi dhoka kiya hai....mujhe aise insaan pe sabke saamne ilzaam lagane pe majboor kiya hai jo humesha se innocent tha.....so you have to explain yourself.

He shouted in vexation, feeling guilty and demanding an explanation for the manipulation he was put through by Vanraj and Kavya but Vanraj didn't consider him worthy enough of giving any justification.

Vanraj:- Mr. Ahuja.....mai bhale hi is company me aab kaam nahi karta hoo......lekin jab karta tha....to ek project head tha.....aur aap sirf ek research division ke head hai.....to behtar hoga aap apni had me rahe.

He reminded Mr. Ahuja of his place in the company in arrogance and Mr. Ahuja laughed out loud at his audacity to do that while Kavya stood restless, not being able to handle the situation.

Mr. Ahuja:- Thank God Mr. Shah....mai sirf ek research division ka head hoo.....aapki tarah at least chor ya fraud to nahi.

He commented with a chuckle and Vanraj, who had forgotten for a few moments the situation he was in, came back to reality hearing that.

Vanraj:- ENOUGH....mai yaha abhi aapse behas karne nahi aaya hoo....mujhe aur bhi zaroori kaam hai.

He stated, realizing that he is in no position to argue with Mr. Ahuja and Kavya breathed a sigh of relief hearing this.

She nudged Vanraj to walk with her towards the elevator but before he could oblige, Mr. Ahuja tried to provoke him.

Mr. Ahuja:- Kya unme se ek kaam apni ex wife ko jhoote fraud case me frame karna bhi hai?

He questioned Vanraj but this time Kavya answered on his behalf.

Kavya:- Mr. Ahuja.....please....jo ho gaya so ho gaya....let's not stretch it anymore.

She requested Mr. Ahuja to stop with his allegations but instead of backing down, Mr. Ahuja attacked her with his words.

Mr. Ahuja:- What please Mrs. Shah?.........Isn't it the truth ki aapne aur aapke pati ne milkar yeh sab Anupama ji ko fasane ke liye kiya tha?......Kya mai kuch galat keh raha hoo?

He accused her of supporting Vanraj in framing Anupama in the fraud case and every employee standing there came in his support one by one.

Employee:- Aap kuch galat nahi keh rahe hai Mr. Ahuja.....humne dekha hai ki Mr. Shah kaise Vikram sir ke office ke video ko lekar Anupama Jii ko target kar rahe the.

One of them said and both Vanraj and Kavya looked at him in distress.

Employee:- Haan.....aisa lag raha tha ki wo jaan bujh ke unhe gunahgaar saabit karna chahte hai.....Us din to hum inki baaton me aa gaye....lekin aab nahi....humne inke khilaaf saare proofs dekhe hai....chori inhone hi ki hai.

Another one added and Vanraj couldn't believe that the people who worked under him once and used to shower him with utmost respect were now throwing insults at him.

He looked at those joining in one by one to accuse him and it frustrated him to the core so much so that he let out a terrifying bawl, defending himself.

Vanraj:- Aisa kuch nahi hai.....Aisa kuch nahi hai....Aisa kuch nahi hai !!

He screamed out loud, leaving everyone in there stunned and silent while he went on to shift the blame on Anupama for manipulating them.

Vanraj:- Anupama ne aaa...aap sabko jhooth bola hai.....wo fasa rahi hai mujhe.

He started spewing venom against Anupama in a desperate attempt to restore his spoilt image in front of the employees but none of them let out even a word.

They stood there in silence with their eyes fixed on the elevator and Kavya found it a bit peculiar.

Hence, she turned around to follow their gaze and as soon as she did, her eyes landed on the person standing near the elevator with an enraged look on his face.

Her breath hitched watching him hear every word Vanraj spoke against his friend and she couldn't help but try and stop him, remembering the warning the person gave her a few minutes ago.

Kavya:- V.....stop !!

She let out in a distressed tone but Vanraj ignored her completely and went on and on about how cunning his ex wife was.

Vanraj:- Bewkoof bana rahi hai wo aap logo ko....aap nahi jaante use.....wo kitni chalaak aurat hai......aap nahi jaante ki wo...

He continued up until a voice echoed through the corridor interrupting his rambling and he stopped as his throat went dry hearing it.

Wo kya Mr. Shah?

He heard from behind and instantly turned to find an agitated Anuj marching towards him in long strides.

Anuj was on the floor to attend a urgent work call from his office before the press conference started but as soon as he stepped out of the elevator, he saw Vanraj throwing full blown insults at Anupama even in her absence in the middle of the corridor where everyone had gathered and his blood boiled hearing him speak such nonsense again.

He couldn't control himself and interrupted before Vanraj could utter one more word against Anupama.

Anuj:- Ruk kyu gaye?.....boliye wo kya?

He dared Vanraj to continue with his insults as he came and stood in front of him but Vanraj couldn't as he saw Anuj glaring at him with rage.

Anuj:- Maine kaha tha aap dono se......agar aapne fir se apni limit cross ki to mujhse bura koi nahi hoga......lekin aap dono ko wo baat samajh nahi aayi.....hai na?

Meanwhile, Anuj reminded the duo of the warning he gave him a few minutes ago as a threat and fearing its consequences, Kavya made a desperate attempt to defend Vanraj and herself.

Kavya:- Mr. Kapadia.....we are sorry......Vanraj ka wo matalab nahi tha.....wo to bas...

She said, trying to cook up some excuse for Vanraj's words but Anuj was least interested in hearing it.

Anuj:- I don't care unka kya matalab tha kya nahi......I warned both of you to shut your trap but aap dono hai ki apni harkato se baaz hi nahi aa rahe.....lagta hai na chahte hue bhi.....is deal ke regarding mujhe apna faisla badalna hi padega.

He cut off Kavya in between and almost made up his mind to cancel the deal when a tensed Vanraj spoke up in his defense.

Vanraj:- Mr. Kapadia please.....hum yaha tamasha nahi create karna chah rahe the......wo to Mr. Ahuja ne aake humse behas karna shuru kar diya.

He stated in an attempt to keep their deal intact but Anuj didn't believe him even for a second.

Anuj:- Aab aap galti chupane ke liye....mere employee pe jhootha ilzaam laga rahe hai....aapki itni himmat hui kaise?

He accused Vanraj of blaming his mistakes on Mr. Ahuja but Mr. Ahuja, who was fearful of the fact that one of the employees from the crowd could tell on him, came forward at once seeing this side of The Anuj Kapadia.

Mr. Ahuja:- Sir actually they are right.....galti meri hai !!

He let out meekly and Anuj looked at him in bewilderment, not expecting him to say this.

Mr. Ahuja:- Mai hi apna guilt ease karne ke liye unpar apna gussa nikal raha tha.

He further admitted in order to save himself from a situation where he might appear as a liar and Anuj wondered what he was talking about.

Anuj:- What guilt Mr. Ahuja?

He questioned and Mr. Ahuja took a deep breath as his eyes fell on someone walking towards the crowd gathered in the corridor.

Mr. Ahuja:- Sir aap is fraud incident ke kuch din baad aaye the.....shayad isiliye aapko pata nahi hoga.....ki hum me se kuch logo ne Mr. Shah ki baaton me aake Anupama Jii ko kaise treat kiya tha.....kitna humiliate kiya tha unhe.

He said in a remorseful tone with his eyes fixed on the person standing behind the crowd and everyone around curiously followed his gaze to find out that it was no one but Anupama herself.

She was peeking from behind a few employees trying to figure out what was going on and as Mr. Ahuja took her name, everyone including Anuj turned towards her and all of a sudden, all this attention made her feel a bit conscious.

She noticed Vanraj and Kavya standing there along with Mr. Ahuja and she couldn't help but worry if the duo had created another drama to trouble Anuj.

She wanted to know what had unfolded there before her arrival and her eyes automatically went to Anuj in hope of some clue but Anuj was too astounded by her presence there to even utter a word.

He didn't expect her to come to the office today either, when Vanraj was there but she did and the expression on her face told him that she had no idea about the insults Vanraj had thrown at her a few minutes ago.

He felt a bit relieved as he didn't want her to hear the nonsense Vanraj was spewing but with all the eyes fixated on her, Anupama was growing anxious with every second and wanted to ask Anuj why Mr. Ahuja was discussing her and the humiliation she faced with him that too in front of Kavya and Vanraj but she simply couldn't in front of all those people.

However, soon Anuj noticed the discomfort and confusion on her face and tried to assure her with a nod that there was nothing to worry about and he would handle it but before he could do something, Mr. Ahuja continued with his confession and Anuj had to turn back to address him.

Mr. Ahuja:- Hume laga Anupama Jii ne humare bids dusri company ko leak kiye hai.....aur isiliye humne unhe itna kuch bol diya.

He spoke up as he looked at Anupama with regret in his eyes but Anupama kept quiet, not being able to figure out how or what to say to him in that situation.

Mr. Ahuja:- Lekin aisa nahi tha....hume baad me pata chala......aur jab pata chala to realize hua ki Mr. Shah ke behkawe me aakar humne kya kar diya hai....isiliye jab unhe yaha dekha to control nahi hua.....aur mai...

He further added, trying to give an excuse for the situation but Anuj cut him off in between.

Anuj:- Aur aap apna guilt utaarne ke liye yaha tamasha create karne lage?

He said, questioning Mr. Ahuja's unprofessional behaviour at work and Mr. Ahuja along with everyone around gulped hearing Anuj's furious tone as he reprimanded them for the scene created during office hours.

Anuj:- Let me remind you all.....yeh office hai......log yaha kaam karne aate hai.....daily soap dekhne nahi.....so next time jab bhi aap se aapka gussa control na ho.....yaha se bahar jaiye aur apna gussa kahi aur jaake channel kijiye....because this behaviour is not acceptable in my office.

He declared sternly and Mr. Ahuja along with others nodded in agreement but Anupama, for the first time, felt a little nervous around him as she blamed herself for him having to deal with her ex husband Vanraj while Anuj reminded Mr. Ahuja of how it wasn't the right way to ease his guilt.

Anuj:- Aur rahi baat guilt ease karne ki to Mr. Ahuja......guilt gussa nikal ke nahi.....jiske saath galat kiya hai....usse maafi maangne se ease hota hai.....hope you are old enough to understand that.

He advised Mr. Ahuja and Mr. Ahuja nodded, regretting his earlier behaviour while Kavya and Vanraj breathed a sigh of relief as they realised they were out of Anuj's crosshair.

Mr. Ahuja:- Aap sahi keh rahe hai sir.....I shouldn't have behaved the way I did.

He said in a rueful tone and walked over to Anupama taking small steps with a desire to rectify his mistake.

Mr. Ahuja:- Anupama ji ho sake to mujhe maaf kar dijiye.....maine wo video dekhkar jo bhi aapse us din kaha......mai galat tha.....I'm really sorry for that.

He apologized with joined hands as he came and stood in front of Anupama and both Anuj and Anupama were left astonished by his sudden gesture.

Employee:- Yes Anupama ji.....we are really sorry.....hum me se sabne aapke baare me koi na koi opinion create kar liya tha....kuch Mr. Shah ki baaton me aake.....aur kuch apni regressive thinking ki wajah se.

One of the members from Mr. Ahuja's team reiterated and Anupama had no idea how to respond to their apology because she never expected it in the first place while others, who too felt that they had misjudged her in the past, came forward to apologize to her.

Employee 1:- He is right....hume aisa nahi karna chahiye tha.....bina aapko jaane.....aapke baare me ulta seedha bolne ka koi haq nahi tha hume.

Another one of them added and soon one by one, everyone who passed comments on her that day apologized for their mistake.

We are all very sorry Anupama Jii !!

In unison, they said and hearing this, Vanraj smoldered with resentment as he saw his efforts of turning the entire office against Anupama go down the drain.

On the other hand, Anupama finally gathered up some courage to speak.

Anu:- Thank you.....yeh sab kehne ke liye.....lekin aap logo ko mujhse maafi maangne ki zaroorat nahi hai.....agar aap log apna man halka hi karna hai....to sirf itna hi kariyega ki.....agli baar se meri jagah koi aisii situation me ho....to bina uski baat sune.....use galat mat theraiyega.....use apni baat rakhne ka ek mauka zaroor dijiyega.

She requested, overwhelmed by the apology she received from her colleagues and Mr. Ahuja assured her that they would adhere to her request.

Mr. Ahuja:- Hum dhyaan rakhenge Anupama Jii.....thank you humari apology accept karne ke liye.

He stated in a grateful voice and turned to Anuj to apologize for his behavior.

Mr. Ahuja:- Sorry sir for all this !!

He said meekly and Anuj who was silently witnessing the exchange between Mr. Ahuja and Anupama felt relieved that her name in the office was cleared of all the accusations.

Anuj:- It's okay !!

He acknowledged Mr. Ahuja's apology with a nod and dismissed the crowd that had gathered there watching the scene, leaving behind their work.

Anuj:- Everyone get back to work.

He ordered in an authoritative manner and hearing this, everyone around except Anupama, Vanraj, Kavya and Ishika walked back to their desks for work.

As the crowd dispersed, Vanraj and Kavya stood in dread wondering if their stupidity had lost them the deal Anuj had earlier offered them while Anupama's eyes fixated on Anuj waiting for some kind of clue as to whether he went ahead with his plan or not.

However, in the moment, Anuj was too focused on his next course of action to be able to answer her and hence, he turned towards Vanraj and Kavya to proceed with it.

Anuj:- Mr. And Mrs. Shah.....aap dono mujhe paanch minute ke andar press conference area me miliye.

He ordered the duo as he looked at the time on his watch and Kavya breathed a sigh of relief, knowing she still had that deal.

Meanwhile, Anupama's mind was put at ease as she realized that Anuj didn't back off from his plan while Anuj noticed this content look on her face as he turned to address her and his authoritative tone automatically turned softer.

Anuj:- Ms. Joshi.....please aap bhi chaliye !!

He said, wanting Anupama to be there for the conference and Anupama nodded, accepting his request but Vanraj wasn't yet ready to face his fate.

Therefore, as the duo turned to leave, he called out to Anupama, assuming that sending Toshu and Pakhi to her college might have had some impact on her.

Vanraj:- Anupama usse pehle tumhe Mr. Kapadia se kuch kehna nahi hai?

He let out, wondering if Toshu's requests had convinced her or not and hearing this, both Anupama and Anuj turned around to look at him.

Anuj was clueless as to what Vanraj was talking about but Anupama knew very well what he wanted from her when he spoke those words.

So, she dared him to speak up his real intentions by pretending to not understand what he was saying.

Anu:- Mujhe kya kehna hoga Mr. Shah?

She questioned Vanraj with an indifferent look on her face and Vanraj was irked as he realized that she was playing with him.

However, a desperate Kavya couldn't contemplate it.

Kavya:- Vanraj ka matalab hai.....tum yaha apna college chod ke aayi hoo.....must be something important you want to discuss with Mr. Kapadia?

She tried to coax Anupama again but this time Anupama ended the conversation then and there.

Anu:- It's none of your business Kavya.

She stated in a stern tone and Anuj pursed his lips hearing her retort Kavya in that voice while Anupama went on to remind them of the press that was waiting for them.

Anu:- Anyways.....aren't you guys getting late for the press conference?

She added as her eyes moved from the duo to Anuj, who understood and turned to leave but not before asking Vanraj and Kavya to hurry up.

Anuj:- Yes Miss Joshi.....we are.....let's go Mr. And Mrs. Shah.

He stated as he walked off from the area, hoping Anupama would follow suit but before she could do that, Vanraj stopped her with a whisper.

Vanraj:- Tum Anuj ko rok kyu nahi rahi ho?.....what's wrong with you?.....tumhe apne baccho ki takleef nahi dikhti kya?

He grumbled in a low voice and Anupama for the first time, watched him terrified of the consequences.

Anu:- Dikhti hai Mr. Shah......lekin uske peeche ki aapki manipulation aur saazish bhi dikhti hai.

She retorted in the same voice but with a grin and Vanraj knew it was over for him.

Vanraj:- Anupama.....agar tumne Anuj ko nahi roka na to....

However, he tried to intimidate her one last time but Anupama didn't let him complete.

Anupama:- To kya?....Aap kuch bhi kar lijiye Mr. Shah.....mai Anuj ko nahi rokungi....so isiliye behtar hoga yha apna time waste karne se accha hai.....aap press conference ke liye jaiye...kyuki agar Anuj ne apna man badal liya na to aap jail bhi jaa sakte hai.

She cut him off in between and reminded him of what Anuj might do if he tried to create any more troubles for him or her and Vanraj knew that he can't take that chance.

Not being able to do anything about the situation at the moment, he took a step towards her in agitation and warned her that he won't let her go easily.

Vanraj:- Tumhe to mai press conference ke baad dekh lunga !!

He stated in a threatening tone before he walked off along with Kavya and Anupama let out an exasperated sigh as he did.

Meanwhile, Devika, who had been observing the whole scene for half an hour from a distance, walked upto Anupama and gently tapped on her shoulders.

Devika:- Kya keh raha tha yeh?

She asked and hearing her voice, Anupama immediately turned around to find her best friend by her side.

Anu:- Kuch nahi.....aakhiri wakt me haath pair maar rahe the.

She replied with a small smile, not wanting to bother Devika with the details but Devika could sense the tension in her voice.

Devika:- Tu theek hai?

Therefore, she asked Anupama if she was alright and Anupama couldn't help but confide in her.

Anu:- Mai Anuj ke saamne dikhana nahi chahti thi Devika....but honestly I don't know.

She tried to express her fears and Devika helped her through it by holding her hand tightly.

Anu:- Press conference se pehle hi Samar aur Pakhi ke saath itna kuch ho chuka hai Mr. Shah ki wajah se.....iske baad to mujhe bhi nahi pata kya hoga.....aur mai sab kaise sambhalungi....Mujhe bahut dar lag raha hai.

She let it all out at once and hearing her anxious tone, Devika tried to calm her down.

Devika:- Tu chinta kyu kar rahi hai......Hum hai na......Pakhi aur Samar ke saath kuch galat nahi hone denge....trust me......aur waise bhi......Samar to kuch dino me aa raha hai na humare pass.....aur rahi baat Pakhi ki to......agar aaj jo tune socha hai.....wo nahi hua.....to hum koi dusra raasta nikal lenge.....tu tension mat le please.

She said, trying to give Anupama some confidence so that she doesn't stop before she has Pakhi's custody and Anupama took a deep breath as she realized that Devika was right.

She needs to stay calm for what she has planned after the press conference or it won't work.

She thought to herself while Devika reminded her that it was time for them to leave.

Devika:- Chal aa jaa.....tamasha create karne walo ka aaj tamasha bante dekhte hai.

She stated, feeling content and low key happy about the fact that Vanraj and Kavya would finally be served their Karma after so long but Anupama just hummed in response, not sure of her own feelings as she left with Devika for the press conference room.

Meanwhile, down in the same building, the press conference area buzzed with reporters as they contemplated in hushed tones the reason behind AK Group organizing an urgent press conference and these whispers intensified as soon as Vanraj and Kavya stepped into the room along with Ishika.

Every eye in the room turned to look at them and under normal circumstances, the duo would have enjoyed being the center of attention in a room full of people but today Vanraj and Kavya knew that all this attention was for the wrong reasons.

For the first time, they felt ashamed of being looked upon like a criminal and lowered their gaze in embarrassment as Ishika escorted them through the crowd to a small space near the stage.

Ishika:- Mr. and Mrs. Shah, aap dono yahi wait kariye.....Mr. Kapadia will go first and then you will be called up on stage to read the apology when the time comes.

She stated, informing the duo of the protocol but before they could respond, Anuj walked in along with some of his staff, all ready to start the press conference.

Anuj:- Mr. Shah?....are you ready?

He asked Vanraj as a formality but Vanraj was too overwhelmed with fear of losing his reputation in front of the whole world to be able to respond to him.

Kavya noticed his condition and decided to ask Anuj for a little bit of time to deal with the situation.

Kavya:- Can you give us a few minutes before starting Mr. Kapadia?......It's not easy for us.

She requested but Anuj was in no mood to entertain any pleas at the moment.

Anuj:- I'm afraid Mrs Shah.....I can't......the press is here and we can't keep them waiting....it's already late.

He stated as he heard his name being called upon stage by the host and walked off, leaving Vanraj and Kavya in anxiety and distress.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for coming here at such a short notice.

Anuj greeted the journalists as he reached the podium set on the stage and hearing him, every reporter seated in the area turned on their recording devices as he went on to address them.

Anuj:- We have organized this press conference to share some updates with you regarding the fraud case we have been fighting against the MG Group and Mr. and Mrs. Shah.

He announced as he took a quick side glance at Vanraj and Kavya standing by the stage and continued with his disclosure until his eyes fell on Anupama, who stood in the corner, trying to keep herself away from all the attention.

Anuj:- We wanted to inform y....

His lips halted as he realized that her inhibitions to be seen in media were a result of the series of allegations that were being thrown at her in the past few months and his resolve to clear her name of those accusations strengthened while Anupama gulped as she noticed his eyes fixated on her amidst the crowd, drawing attention that she was not comfortable with.

Not wanting to be the cause of any disruption, she turned around to leave but Vikram, who wasn't far away from her, marched up to her and held her hand firmly.

Vikram:- If you still are afraid to face the media right now, how are you planning to make Vanraj sign the papers after the conference?

He questioned in a harsh tone and her eyes shot up, wondering if Devika told him about her plan.

Vikram:- Yes, Devika told me. Stop pondering over it and turn around. You are not going anywhere today. Enough is enough.

He almost ordered Anupama and she nodded, realizing that he was right.

She can't hide away from her fears anymore. She needs to face it in order to get over them completely.

She thought to herself as she turned around to face Anuj on the stage and as soon as she did, Anuj gave her a faint smile, feeling relieved and continued with his statement.

Anuj:- We want to inform you that Mr. and Mrs. Shah has legally accepted that they had a hand in the fraud case and are here amongst us to apologize for the same.

He revealed this to the journalists and soon the entire room of journalists started bombarding him with questions while Vanraj and Kavya closed their eyes hearing them.

Reporter 1:- Mr. Kapadia.....is an apology enough for defrauding your company?

One of the reporters asked and Anuj shared with them some of the details of the deal that he had finalized in the conference room.

Anuj:- Of course not....That is the reason.....Mr. and Mrs. Shah will not only be apologizing for their mistakes but will also pay us a hefty sum of twenty lakhs in compensation for the trouble they have caused us......and in return we will withdraw our case against them.

He stated and hearing this, Vanraj gritted his teeth in vexation while reporters kept cross questioning Anuj.

Reporter 2:- Mr. Kapadia....the tender your company lost was worth hundred crores.....how twenty lakhs from Mr. and Mrs Shah will compensate for that?

One of them argued and Anuj addressed his query.

Anuj:- To a middle class family.....a sum of twenty lakhs is worth hundred crores.....and I hope you understand that.

He replied with a small smile before another reporter tried to inquire further about the case.

Reporter 3:- But what about the MG Group?.....there is still no proof that their top management was involved in this fraud case and even if Mr. and Mrs. Shah have accepted that they were the one who stole confidential information from the company......where is the proof that it was leaked to the management of the MG Group?

He raised his doubts about the allegations against the MG Group but Anuj wanted to keep the news about Singhania and MG Group under wraps.

Anuj:- We have enough evidence now to prove that MG Group's top management was involved in this fraud along with Mr. and Mrs. Shah but for the time being.....we will be keeping that information to ourselves until the court proceedings end.

Therefore, he kept his answer short, not wanting to disclose too much to the media as of now but the reporters in the room were not satisfied with his answer.

Reporter 4:- But Mr. Kapadia....

They tried to force an answer out of him but Anuj shut them down in a strict manner.

Anuj:- I think those are enough questions for the day.......now I would like to call upon Mr. Vanraj Shah and Mrs. Kavya Shah to say their piece and I hope everyone here will let them without any interruptions or disturbance.

He said in an authoritative tone and looked at Vanraj and Kavya, who didn't respond to his call and stood there unmoving, constantly looking at the swarm of journalists, visibly terrified of coming up on stage and confessing to their crimes.

Watching them not move an inch, Anuj decided to invite them again.

Anuj:- Mr. And Mrs. Shah !!

He called out their names in an assertive tone and this time, Vanraj and Kavya listened and started taking small steps towards the stage.

As the duo moved up the stage, their eyes kept darting from Anuj to Anupama in the hope that she would come up at the last moment to save them from the embarrassment they were about to face.

However, she stood in the corner with a blank expression on her face and this indifference of hers to their plight made Vanraj realize that there is nothing more he can do to salvage this situation.

Therefore, he looked down, avoiding eye contact as he made his way to the podium while Anuj moved to the side, giving him and Kavya the stage to honor the terms of the deal.

As Vanraj reached the podium along with Kavya, all the cameras started flashing, focused on him and this unwanted attention made him want to flee the scene as he felt ashamed of admitting to his wrongdoings but he knew he couldn't as the cost of not admitting was jail time, which was worse than facing the humiliation he will be subjected to right now and after the press conference.

Therefore, he swallowed his pride and went ahead with the statement in the file that was kept in front of him.

He began with a bit of hesitation, looking at the journalists recording him but Kavya, who was standing a little behind him, nudged him on his elbow to go ahead.

Vanraj:- Ever....everyone.

Therefore, he continued but in a low voice that reeked of guilt and shame he was feeling right now, being glared at, by everyone in disgust while Anuj, who had left the stage to go and stand at the back beside his friends, keenly observed Vanraj as he resumed his statement.

Vanraj:- Jaisa ki aap log ja...jante hai.....I was accused of stea....stealing bids from th...this company.....

He stuttered as a pit of unease began to form in his stomach and Anupama could sense it from the tremble in his voice.

Her innate nature would have made her feel sorry for the person standing over there in this situation even if it was Vanraj but to her surprise, this time, she felt nothing.....no pity.....no sympathy....for the father of her children and somehow this change gave her a sense of liberation from the shackles that had been holding her back.

Meanwhile, Vanraj reluctantly went ahead with his apology.

Vanraj:- And th...those allegations are unfor...unfortunately righ....right.... mai bas itna kehna chahta hoo ki.....I am sor....sorr...sorry.....jo maine kiya wo mujhe nahi karna chahiye tha !!

He expressed his remorse for committing the fraud even though what he actually regretted was that he didn't cover up his tracks properly to avoid getting caught.

Vanraj:- Mujhe is company se bids nahi churane chahiye the....aisa karne ke liye mai is company ke har employee aur shareholders se maafi maangta hu.....jinhe meri is harkat ki wajah se kisi bhi tarah ka nuksaan hua hai....especially....

Nonetheless, he pretended to mean his apology so that he can get out of this situation as soon as possible but his tongue halted as he realized that now, he had to read out the hard part where he had to apologize to the person he hated the most.

Therefore, he shifted his gaze from the file to the person.....to Anupama.....standing in the corner of the room beside Vikram, Anuj and Devika, casually waiting for him to continue and his inability to intimidate her in the moment was making him furious and fearful at the same time that his threatening words or gaze won't have any sway over her in the future.

However, he knew that any of this doesn't matter right now as he had to apologize to Anupama or his deal with Anuj won't go ahead.

Hence, he lowered his gaze and, unwillingly, continued reading out the statement.

Vanraj:- Especially Miss Joshi tum....

He addressed Anupama in the same disrespectful tone in which he used to but this time, a loud sound of someone clearing his throat echoed in the silent conference room and even without lifting his head, Vanraj knew who it belonged to.

It was a cue for him from Anuj to be respectful and stick to the words written in the statement and he understood it.

Vanraj:- Miss Joshi aapse.....aapse mm....mai maafi mang....mangna chahta hoo !!

He corrected himself and Anupama was shocked as to how a single move of Anuj was enough to put Vanraj in his place.

She looked at him in gratitude, unable to form words for his kind gesture but Anuj just assured her with his eyes that she doesn't need to worry about it.

Meanwhile, Vanraj noticed this exchange between the duo and was agitated by how close they were getting with time but what else he could do other than gritting his teeth, reading the apology.

Vanraj:- Miss Joshi....I feel terr...terrible for framing you for the fraud.....when it was I who stole the bids.

Therefore, he went ahead as he wanted to get it over with asap but unfortunately, he hadn't glanced at the whole apology in his anger and ego before signing the deal and soon came the part that made him feel a pounding ache in his chest.

Vanraj:- Maine aisa sirf isiliye kiya kyuki...

He stopped to look at the words written in the paper to check if he was right and his eyes couldn't believe what he read.

A drop of sweat trickled down his forehead as he realized that he had to admit to the one thing in front of the whole world that he wouldn't even admit to himself even in his mind.....his deepest....darkest fear that he had buried within himself.....the real reason that dictated his actions against Anupama....his insecurity that had led him into this situation.....it was time to admit it in front of the whole world and his legs trembled even at the thought of it.

How dare Anuj do this to him?

He thought to himself as he looked at the file and then at Anuj in rage and Anuj understood the reason behind his reaction.

However, he remained calm, not responding to Vanraj's look and this irked Vanraj even more.

He wanted to leave the stage to go and teach Anuj a lesson but Kavya's words from behind held him back.

Kavya:- Vanraj kuch bhi karne ka socha na tumne to yaad rakhna uska nateeza kya hoga. We will be sent to jail. So whatever it is....just swallow your ego and read the damn apology. This is our last chance to get out of this case.

She whispered in a low voice and Vanraj knew that she was right.

His and his family's future is hanging in the balance and he can't afford to go to jail.

He thought to himself as he gulped down his anger while the reporters bugged him to continue.

Aap chup kyu ho gaye Mr. Shah?....Bataiye aapne aisa kyu kiya?.....Boliye?

Some of them asked and he just closed his eyes, feeling humiliated as he went on to read the statement further ahead.

Vanraj:- Ky.....kyuki mai Miss Joshi se jeal...jealo.....jealous tha......she is my ex wife and I cou....

He faltered at every word, feeling mortified to admit in front of the whole world that he is inferior to his ex-wife but he still continued in order to save himself and Kavya from going to jail.

Vanraj:- And I couldn't tolerate the fa...fact that her work in the office was much bet...better than mi...mine.....aur bas isiliye maine yeh sss...sab kiya.....lekin aab mujhe apni galti ka ehsaas hai aur isiliye mai Miss Joshi.....aa...aapse maafi ma...maangna chahta hoo.....I apolo...apologize for my mistake.....for frr....framing you in the fraud case.....and for everything you had to go through in the past few months because of me....I am sorry.

He stated it all in one go, using up all the strength he had left in him to admit to this and Anupama was left stunned by this confession.

She knew, very well, that Vanraj didn't even mean a word of what he said but the fact that he agreed to say it, is what left her astonished.

How did Anuj manage to do this? Most importantly, why did he do this? An apology was enough for her.....she didn't need more.

A plethora of thoughts ran through her mind as she looked at Anuj in bewilderment and her one look was enough to tell him what was going through her mind.

He knew that she didn't want Vanraj to say all this because she was too kind but it was needed and right now, he wasn't sure how to explain this to her.

Therefore, he averted his gaze and focused on Vanraj's speech and Anupama also did the same, making a mental note of asking him later while Vanraj concluded his statement in a hurry, not wanting to be subjected to further humiliation from the media and Anuj.

Vanraj:- At the end....mai bas itna kehna chahta hoo ki.....I am really thankful to Mr. Kapadia and his company for giving me an oppo...opportunity to apologize and make things right.....no one else would have done that....Thank you so much.

He ended the statement and walked off the stage, avoiding any questions from the journalists that would disgrace him and his reputation further and in the process, left his wife Kavya behind to face the media all by herself.

This move of Vanraj made everyone in the hall including Anuj and Vikram wonder about his relationship with Kavya but Anupama and Devika were not surprised at all. They had seen this before and knew that Vanraj was a man who didn't care about anyone but himself.

So, as everyone in the room pondered over how Vanraj could leave his wife alone, Anupama decided to follow him outside and go ahead with the plan she had devised for him. Therefore, as soon as Kavya started with her statement, Anupama, quietly, took a few steps back and left the room from the back door but Anuj noticed her and wondered where she was going right now.

Curious about her suddenly leaving, he followed her outside but not before asking Vikram and Devika to take care of the press after Kavya gave her statement.

Meanwhile, down a few floors, in the reception area, Anupama saw Vanraj furiously marching towards the exit and decided to stop him before he left the premises.

Anu:- Mr. Shah

She called from behind but Vanraj ignored her call and continued walking.

Anu:- Mr. Shah.....ruk jaiye.

She did it again in a loud voice and this time an agitated Vanraj couldn't avoid her.

Vanraj:- How dare you?....Itna sab kuch hone ke baad.....tumahri himmat kaise hui mujhe rokne ki?

He shouted as he turned around and stomped towards her back inside in rage but it didn't scare Anupama at all.

Anu:- Maine aapko gossip karne ke liye nahi roka hai yaha.....in papers sign karne ke liye roka hai.

She retorted back in the same tone as she walked up to him and pulled out a file that baffled Vanraj.

Vanraj:- Mujhe jo bhi papers sign karne the is deal se related....mai already kar chuka hoon.

He let out, vexed and confused about what more papers Anuj wanted him to sign but Anupama clarified that it's not Anuj but her, who wants him to sign some papers.

Anu:- Yeh aapki Mr. Kapadia ke saath deal ke papers nahi......aapki mere saath deal ke papers hai.

She stated clearly but Vanraj couldn't comprehend what she was trying to do.

Vanraj:- What?

He asked perplexed and Anupama just forwarded the file instead of trying to give an explanation.

Anu:- Aap khud hi dekh lijiye.

She said, asking him to have a look at the papers and Vanraj snatched it from her, not wanting to waste any more of his time.

As he opened the file and started reading the papers, his face turned red with every line and fury overcame him.

Vanraj:- WHAT THE HELL !!

He hollered as he threw the file onto the ground and took a step towards Anupama aggressively, trying to intimidate her.

However, as he came close and towered over her face, looking at her threateningly, instead of backing off or pushing him away, Anupama stood her ground, glaring back into his eyes with a fierceness that he had already seen a day before.

Vanraj:- Tumhe sach me lagta hai ki mai tumhe Pakhi ke joint custody rights dunga.....wo bhi tumahri wajah se jo meri puri duniya ke saamne itni beizzati hui....uske baad?

He grumbled in a deep menacing voice as his insides quivered with anger looking at her audacity to demand something like this after ratting him out in front of the whole world and hearing this, Anupama's lips, unexpectedly, curved into a small smirk.

Anu:- Lagta nahi hai Mr. Shah.....mai jaanti hoo aap mujhe Pakhi ke custody rights khud denge.

She stated with conviction, aware that she has an upper hand on him right now but Vanraj wasn't ready yet to accept his defeat.

Vanraj:- Aur maine nahi diya to tum kya kar logi?......Bacha kya hai tumahre pass aab karne ko?.....puri duniya ke saamne mera aur meri family ka to tumne mazak bana ke rakh hi diya hai......aab isse zada tum kya kar logi?

He challenged her, thinking that he had nothing left to lose but Anupama was ready to remind him of what he could.

Anu:- Wahi jo maine kaha tha Mr. Shah.....aap agar mujhe Pakhi ki joint custody nahi denge to mai.....Anupama Joshi.....uski sole custody ke liye court me case file karoongi.

She stated, prepared to go out of her way to get Pakhi's custody this time but Vanraj was still too confident of his hold on her.

Vanraj:- Tum aisa kuch nahi karogi......tumhe idea bhi hai ki agar tumne yeh kiya to.....Pakhi ki mental health pe kya asar hoga?

He tried to bully her into caving but Anupama was not the one to get manipulated after all she had witnessed during the past two months.

Anu:- Wo to tab hoga na Mr. Shah......jab yeh case zada lamba chalega.....Aapke is public confession ke baad to......court mujhe pehli hearing me hi custody de dega aur aap bas khade khade dekhte reh jaayenge.

She let out in a stone cold voice and Vanraj could do nothing but grit his teeth as Anupama's words started to get under his skin.

Vanraj:- Tumhe lagta hai mai aisa hone dunga?.....bhulo mat ki maine pehle bhi tumhe Pakhi ke custody battle me haraya hai Anupama......aur aab wapas fir se hara sakta hoo.

He retaliated, trying to get her to back off by reminding her of the past consequences but Anupama knew that, on the inside, he was petrified of losing his daughter, especially to her and she decided to play on that fear.

Anu:- Tab aapke pass wo case ladne ke liye resources the Mr. Shah....aur mere pass na resources the aur na hi himmat....lekin aab aapke pass kuch nahi hai......na job hai na izzat aur na hi savings.....are aapko to yeh bhi nahi pata ki aap bees lakh compensation ka amount kaha se laayenge aur aap baat kar rahe hai mujhe harane ki.....seriously?

She stated, making him aware of his situation and Vanraj clenched his jaw in anger hearing her.

Anu:- Mr. Shah.....agar aapke pass paise bhi hote.....fake certificates produce karne wala lawyer bhi hota.....tab bhi aap yeh case pehli hearing me haar jaate.....but aab to aapke pass kuch bhi nahi hai.....to aap kis dam pe yeh case ladne ki soch rahe hai?.....Toshu ki kamai ke dam pe yaa Baa Bapuji ki savings ke dam pe?

She, further, questioned him on putting his family's savings at risk to satisfy his ego and Vanraj just couldn't tolerate her attitude anymore but before he could say or do something, Kavya cut him off.

Kavya:- Anupama is right V. Humare pass already bahut cheeze hai tension lene ke liye.....tum usme ek aur cheez kyu add kar rahe ho?.....Anupamaa ki baat maan lo.....aur yeh sab khatam karo.

She requested Vanraj as she came and pulled him back by his elbow to stop him from hovering over Anupama and Vanraj didn't expect this.

Vanraj:- Kavya yeh meri beti ki zindagi ki baat hai....tum beech me naa hi bolo to accha hai.

He warned Kavya to stay out of their argument but Kavya wasn't ready to deal with his nonsense anymore.

Kavya:- Yeh humari bhi zindagi ki baat hai V......agar tum saare savings aur time yeh case ladne me laga doge to hum Anuj ko bees lakh kaha se denge.....socha hai kabhi tumne?

She reminded him of the twenty lakhs they have to pay in a month and Vanraj finally started to realize the gravity of his situation when he heard it from someone else other than Anupama.

Meanwhile, Anupama waited for Kavya to continue as she knew that Kavya might be the only one who he might listen to without any ego clouding his judgment and he did as Kavya went on.

Kavya:- Isiliye keh rahi hoo.....just sign these paper and get it over with. Custody Anupama ke pass bhi ho.....to usse kya farak padta hai?.....Pakhi to humare pass hi rehegi na.

She added, trying to help Vanraj see some kind of upside to the situation as she picked up the file and put it in his hand but before Vanraj could take in her words and look over the file, Anupma interrupted, correcting Kavya's words.

Anu:- Aapki wife sahi keh rahi hai Mr. Shah.....except for one thing. Agar aap yeh papers sign karenge to Pakhi hafte me teen din mere saath mere ghar par rehegi.....in papers me likha hai ki aap mujhe pure hosho hawas me Pakhi ke upar wo saare legal rights de rahe hai jo ek maa ke hote hai.....chahe wo fir Pakhi ke saath wakt guzaarna ho.....uske zindagi ke faisle lene ho ya use sambhalna ho.....agar aap yeh papers sign karte hai to Pakhi ki in saari cheezo pe mera utna hi haq hoga jitna aapka hai.

She clarified what was written in the file clearly so that Vanraj won't have any misconceptions before he signed the deal but after hearing her terms, Vanraj didn't look exactly pleased.

He was about to rebuff her offer in his usual high pitched tone but sensing it beforehand, Anupama cut him off in between.

Anu:- Lekin agar aap papers sign nahi karte hai.....aur mujhe court jana padta hai Pakhi ki sole custody ke liye.....to yaad rakhiyega in saari cheezo pe sirf mera haq hoga.....na ki aapka.
So agar aap Pakhi ki life me apni involvement nahi chahte hai to yeh papers sign mat kijiye......koi baat nahi.....Pakhi ki sole custody mujhe mil jayegi aur kya pata mere saath rehne ki use itni aadat lag jaaye ki use aapki kabhi zaroorat hi na ho.

She laid out the entire scenario that will play out after his refusal and Vanraj couldn't tolerate hearing how his fears would come true.

Vanraj:- ANUPAMAA.....ENOUGH.

He shouted, asking her to stop and Anupama smirked, realizing that her words were affecting him like never before.

Anu:- Mr. Shah....aaram se.....aap bhul rahe hai yaha media hai.....agar kisi ne aapki ucchi awaaz sun li.....to aapne jo andar itna melodrama kiya hai na...sab par Paani fir jaayega.

She stated, reminding him of the media that was waiting outside to pick on his every word and action but Vanraj didn't care about that right now.

Vanraj:- Tum meri beti ko mujhse alag nahi kar sakti.

He declared in trembling words while Anupama understood that he wasn't in his ego anymore and she just needed to give him a little push to sign the papers.

Anu:- Mai kaha alag kar rahi hoo Mr. Shah.....mai to aapko option de rahi hoo......aap Pakhi ki life me abhi bhi reh sakte hai......bas aapko yeh papers sign karne hai......aab yeh aapka faisla hai ki aapka aapki beti ke liye pyaar zada important hai ya aapka ego?

She addressed him calmly this time, not wanting to enrage him and decided to give the duo a deadline to sign the file to make the decision easier.

Anu:- Bas jo bhi hai.....aap dono ko yeh faisla abhi lena hoga kyuki agar aap abhi yeh papers sign nahi karte hai to.....mai aaj hi Pakhi ki sole custody ke liye court me file kar rahi hoo.

She added in a stern yet soft warning and Kavya took the cue to convince Vanraj.

Kavya:- V.....think practically.....we can't fight one more case.....we don't have any money.....aur Pakhi ka socho.....she is not on your side.....agar usne kal jo kaha....wo sach me court me keh diya to.....agar wo Anupama ke side chali gayi to?

She said, requesting Vanraj to give up the fight but Vanraj was in between two minds.

Vanraj:- Meri beti kabhi meri side nahi chodegi.

He argued, though in a rather weak tone and Kavya clicked her tongue in disappointment hearing him.

Kavya:- V stop living in denial......wo tumahre side kabhi nahi hogi....aur agar hogi bhi to is press conference ke baad to na chahte hue bhi wo Anupama ke pass rehna chahegi.....think about it V and give Anupama her custody......at least this way.....tum apni beti ke saath reh to paoge.

She tried to help Vanraj see reason and surprisingly, on the inside, Vanraj understood her point but he was too proud to admit defeat.

Anu:- Mr. Shah....please jaldi boliye.....mere pass yaha khade hoke.....aap dono ki useless discussion sunne ka time nahi hai.

Meanwhile, Anupama asked him to hurry and this made him look at her in abhorrence.

He just couldn't stand her attitude and wanted to just berate her for it but his eyes fell on the shadow of a person standing behind in the corner and he knew that he couldn't today.

He pledged to destroy Anupama's life as he took a step forward towards her and seeing the hostility in his eyes, Anupama reminded him of where they were standing.

Anu:- Mr. Shah.....media.

She stated in a warning to stop him from overreacting but instead, unexpectedly, Vanraj, very calmly, asked for something in her hand.

Vanraj:- Pen?

He requested and Anupama fumbled for a second as she realized Vanraj was finally ready to sign the custody papers while Kavya breathed a sigh of relief at this.

Anu:- Here it is.

She said as she handed him over the pen and Vanraj, instantly, took it from her and signed the papers without wasting any more time.

Today, it wasn't his day but soon he will get an opportunity and he will take full advantage of it.

He thought to himself as he handed back the papers to Anupama and she took it from him, wanting to ensure if the signs were proper before the duo left.

Anu:- Thank you.....aab aap jaa sakte hai.....bahar bhi media aap dono ke swagat me khadi hogi.

She stated with a feeling of content as she, calmly, flipped through the last page of the file but there was clear annoyance on Vanraj and Kavya's face.

However, not wanting to aggravate their already pathetic condition, they gave Anupama an irked look as they, slowly, turned around and left.

Meanwhile, the shadow that was lurking in the corner, watching the entire scene unfold, appeared and with a half smirk on his lips, spoke.....

Why haven't I ever met this ferocious Anupama before?

Anupama heard this voice, coming from behind and immediately understood who it belonged to.

She pursed her lips, trying to suppress a smile that had appeared out of nowhere, hearing that comment and turned around to reply in the most gracious manner ever.

Anu:- Because you are too sweet to be able to handle her.

She responded with a grin as she stood there with folded hands, looking at the gentleman approaching her with his hands in his pockets and a proud smile on his face.

Try me.

He said, assuring Anupama that he could handle her fierce side as he came and stood in front of her and his demeanor made Anupama blush a little in embarrassment.

Anu:- Some other day Mr. Kapadia !!

She stated, trying to avert his gaze, not being able to continue the banter that she had started and Anuj just couldn't help but admire the shyness reflecting on her face.

She looked like a child, who was caught doing mischief and the innocence on her face right now was something that he couldn't get enough of since ages.

How can a person who looked so brutal dealing with Vanraj, a few moments ago, be so pure and childlike at heart?

He wondered in his mind but soon Anupama's words interrupted his thoughts.

Anu:- Right now.....I have to go and hand over these papers to my lawyer so he can file them in the court as soon as possible.

She added, wanting to escape from the scene before Anuj could question the change in her personality that he witnessed a few minutes ago but as soon as he heard her, something clicked in Anuj's mind and he tried to connect the dots before Anupama could turn around and leave.

Anuj:- So that's the reason....in the morning.....you were insisting on me to teach Vanraj a lesson.....so that he confesses his sins in public and you can use it to get Pakhi's custody from him.....that too without going to court.

He said, voicing his thoughts and Anupama bit her tongue, realizing that he figured it all out.

Anu:- In short, yes.

She confirmed, her voice tinged with a slight hesitation.

Anu:- Sorry that I didn't tell you the whole story in the morning. I was not sure if this thing would work out or not and I just didn't want to....

She trailed off, her words laced with uncertainty.

Anuj:- You don't have to tell me everything Anupama......it's quite alright. I don't mind it at all.

He reassured her in a gentle tone, understanding her situation and Anupama felt grateful for having a kind friend like him.

Anu:- Thank you !!

She responded with gratitude in her voice and Anuj acknowledged it with a smile.

Anu:- Kya mai aapse kuch puch sakti hoo Anuj?

She inquired, wanting to ask something that has been popping up in her mind for a while but before she could voice out her feelings, Anuj beat her to it.

Anuj:- Vanraj ne jo abhi speech me bola uske bare me?

He asked, knowing well what she wanted to ask and hearing him put words to her thoughts, Anupama wondered if he had some mind reading powers that she doesn't know of or else how could he guess what's going on in her mind right every time.

Anu:- Unhone jo kaha ki wo mujhse jealous the.....itna to jaanti hoo mai unhe wo khud se yeh sab kabhi nahi kehenge......isiliye janna chahti hoo ki aapne unki apology me yeh kyu dalwaya?....I mean uski kya zaroorat thi?

Nonetheless, she tried to contemplate the reason behind the inclusion of that particular statement in Vanraj's apology and Anuj addressed her concern without any delay.

Anuj:- Zaroorat to Anu Vanraj ko bhi nahi thi na tumhe kal sabke saamne humiliate karne ki.....lekin usne kiya na.....to maine to sirf usse sach bulwaya hai.

He responded calmly in a tone that carried a sense of justification for his actions and a curious Anupama sought some clarification from him.

Anu:- To aapne yeh sab unhe humiliate karne ke liye kiya?

She inquired, understanding the fact that Vanraj, also, damaged Anuj's reputation that day along with hers but her question made Anuj feel that he did something that hurt her.

Anuj:- Mai sirf uska ghamand todna chahta tha.....that's it....so that.....use next time agar tumhare saath kuch galat karne ka khayal bhi aaye....to use yeh din yaad rhe.

He tried to explain his intention behind his actions and Anupama, instantly, nodded, realizing that Anuj misunderstood her.

Anuj:- I'm sorry....mai tumahri tarah accha nahi hoo Anu.....mai itni aasani se logo ko maaf nahi kar pata.....mai.....

However, Anuj carried on, not paying attention to her gestures or the look on her face that tried to stop him but Anupama couldn't see him spiraling into guilt anymore, that too, for doing nothing wrong.

Anu:- Anuj.....Anuj.....please aapko sorry bolne ki bilkul zaroorat nahi hai Anuj....aap jaise bhi hai bahut achhe hai.

She tried to reassure Anuj that he didn't do anything wrong and Anuj finally realized that he mistook her seeking clarification for an accusation.

Anu:- Aur rahi baat meri to....mere jaisa to kisi ko hona bhi nahi chahiye.....Khud ki self respect ko nazar andaaz karke....logo ke saamne jhukne me koi acchai nahi hai.

Meanwhile, Anupama continued, her words reflecting a sense of self awareness and determination that left Anuj bewildered.

Anuj:- Agar nahi hai....to kyu jhukna hai Anu?

He queried in a concerned tone, wanting to know what is keeping her from acting on her own words and Anupama sighed in resignation.

Anu:- Chabees saal ki aadat hai Anuj.....chahkar bhi itni aasani se nahi jayegi !!

She replied, acknowledging the challenge of breaking ingrained habits and Anuj understood that she just needed a little bit of more time and push.

Anuj:- Wo sab mujhe nahi pata.....bas mai itna jaanta hoo ki agar Anupama Joshi kuch thaan leti hai.....to fir wo karke hi rehti hai.

He reminded Anupama of her determination and resolve when it comes to completing a challenge and she smiled at his words of encouragement, indicating that she will reflect on them.

Anuj:- Anyways mai bas itna keh raha tha ki....Vanraj ki apology me wo part dalne ka intention sirf use sabak sikhana tha.....mai tumhe kisi bhi tarah se hurt nahi karna chahta tha.

He further added, clarifying his intentions that he didn't want to hurt her and Anupama assured him that she understood.

Anu:- Aap mere aur meri family ke liye yeh press conference tak nahi karna chahte the Anuj....aap mujhe kabhi hurt nahi kar sakte hai.

She said, putting him at ease and went on to express her regret for the troubles he had to go through because of her.

Anu:- Infact hurt to maine aapko kiya hai......meri wajah se kal pooja me aapko Mr. Shah se kitna kuch sunna pada.....I'm sorry for all that Anuj.

She apologized in remorse and hearing her, Anuj was suddenly transported to the terrifying moment when Anupama's life hung in the balance.

The scene when Anupama was about to fall off the balcony played in front of his eyes again and his heart stirred in fear as the following words escaped his lips.

Anuj:- You should be sorry Anu.

He uttered, his voice flat and distant and Anupama was taken aback by his tone but before she could misunderstand him, Anuj made it clear what he meant by those words.

Anuj:- But not for what Vanraj said.....but for what you did after he said those things.

He clarified in a tone that pierced through air like a blade but Anupama was still not sure about what Anuj was trying to say.

Anu:- Matalab?

She questioned, seeking an explanation but Anuj, right now, wrestled with his emotions, struggling to articulate the depth of his feelings without revealing too much.

The fear of losing her, compounded by the memory of her near-tragic fall gnawed at his soul and he couldn't help but feel furious at Anupama for not taking care of herself.

However, in any case, he didn't want to unleash it on her and therefore, he, subtly, tried to put an end to the conversation.

Anuj:- Kuch nahi. Let it be !!Tumhe yeh papers bhi submit karne hai na....I think tumhe nikalna chahiye.

He suggested, hoping to spare her from the storm raging within him as he asked her to leave and Anupama, just, stood there, unable to comprehend the myriad of emotions passing through his face.

Anuj:- Mai upar jaata hoo....kaafi kaam pending pada hai.

He informed her, masking his inner turmoil behind a facade of composure and with a forced smile, he turned around and retreated to the elevator, leaving Anupama baffled.

His tone which had always been so soft towards her suddenly turned distant and she couldn't understand the reason behind it.

Was he angry with her?....Was it something she said or did?.....or....Was it because of what happened a day before due to her presence in the pooja?

She needed to find out and to do that, she needed to talk to him.

Therefore, she followed him to the elevator and before he could close the door, Anupama entered, catching him off guard.

Anuj:- Anu....what are you doing?

He inquired as she pressed the close button, sealing them in the elevator together and a confused Anuj didn't know what to make of it.

Anu:- Aap mujhse naraaz hai?

She asked him in the most straightforward tone and this time, it was Anuj who was left startled by her question.

Anuj:- What?

His response was initially one of confusion but it soon became clear as her words settled in.

Anuj:- Mai tumse kyu gussa hounga?

He turned defensive, not wanting to give way to his frustration simmering inside him but Anupama was persistent with her efforts on seeking clarity.

Anu:- To yeh "let it be" ka kya matlab tha?

She questioned, her insistence clear in her tone but Anuj's response was void of any emotion.

Anuj:- Kuch nahi....wo maine aise hi bol diya Anu.

He stated in a flat tone as he moved to push the button to open the elevator door to escape the situation but before he could, Anupama blocked his path, determined to get to the bottom of his mood.

Anu:- Aap kuch bhi aise hi nahi bolte....Bataiye mujhe aap kya bolte bolte ruk gaye?

She asked again, hoping to elicit some kind of response but for some reason unknown to her, Anuj was adamant on leaving.

Anuj:- Anu please.....I want to go out.

He requested her to move aside and let him go but his plea for escape was met with firm resistance.

Anu:- Well that's not going to happen unless you answer my question.

She asserted, demanding an answer from him again but Anuj's frustration mounted as Anupama pressed him for a response.

Anuj:- What question?

He tried to pretend that he didn't know what she was talking about, hoping that she would eventually give up but Anupama continued to pester him for an answer.

Anu:- Yahi ki kya aap mujhse naraaz hai?

She inquired, looking at him with a piercing gaze and Anuj was finding it difficult to avoid her questions and even her in that closed small space.

Anu:- Anuj kya aap mujhse naraaz hai?

She asked again, her insistence growing urgent and Anuj couldn't help it anymore.

Anuj:- Haan hoon naraaz mai....bahut naraaz hoo.

He lashed out, giving way to the turmoil and frustration that had been brewing inside him and Anupama's heart sank at his admission, her mind racing to understand why.

Anu:- Kyu?

She questioned in a feeble voice, afraid that the response might hurt her and Anuj's reply was tinged with exasperation.

Anuj:- Kyu?.....Yeh tum puch rahi ho?....kal tumne jo kiya na....wo..

He began in a vexed tone but Anupama's apology interrupted him mid-sentence.

Anu:- Anuj...I'm sorry.....mai jaanti hoo kal mujhe aapki pooja me nahi aana chahiye tha....agar waha nahi aati to Mr. Shah ne itna bada tamasha nahi khada kiya hota....aur...

She apologized again and again, her fear of losing her friend taking over her rationale to listen to his explanation first and this guilt ridden apology miffed Anuj further.

Anuj:- Really Anu?.....you still think ki mai tumse Vanraj ne jo kiya....uski wajah se naraz hoo?

He questioned her again, his annoyance evident in his tone and hearing him, Anupama realized that by making her own assumptions, she is not listening to what Anuj has to say.

Anu:- To aap aur kyu....

She trailed off, wanting Anuj to continue with his words but Anuj didn't want to explain anymore.

Anuj:- Tum rehne do....Mujhe is baare me baat nahi karni abhi tumse !!

He stated in a curt response, wanting to end the conversation then and there but Anupama implored him to continue further.

Anu:- Anuj !!

She let out in a soft and pleading tone but Anuj averted her gaze, not wanting to give in.

Anu:- Bataiye to maine aisa kya kiya?

However, Anupama continued to insist on an answer and her persistence drew a revelation from Anuj that she didn't expect to hear.

Anuj:- Tumne mujhse dur jaane ki kosis ki Anu.....you tried to leave me.

He looked Anupama straight into his eyes and with a cracking voice, accused her of leaving him.

Anuj:- Tumhe idea bhi hai....kal agar mai waha us building ki balcony me time pe nahi aata to....kya ho sakta tha?

He said as his voice trailed off, leaving the unspoken question lingering in the air and Anupama's breath caught in her throat as she realized the gravity of her actions.

Meanwhile, Anuj struggled with raw emotions that surged inside him and he didn't realize when he moved closer to Anupama and gently held her elbow and pulled her towards him but Anupama, surely, did as she felt a sudden tug on her elbows that drew her close to him.

The atmosphere around them crackled with tension as his grip on her elbows tightened slightly, conveying a sense of urgency and concern that sent shivers down Anu's spine.

Their proximity seemed to magnify the weight of his words as he uttered the chilling phrase....

He couldn't complete it and Anupama's voice faltered as she echoed his unspoken fear....

Died?

She let out in a low voice but Anuj couldn't even tolerate the sound of it in his ears.

Anuj:- Shut up okay !! Just shut up !!

He snapped in fear and with a sudden jolt, he pulled Anupama closer to him with a powerful tug while her hands instinctively clutched his suit to steady herself, the space between their faces diminishing to mere inches.

Anupama recoiled at the sudden outburst, feeling the tension between them escalate with each passing moment. But even in his anger, there was a vulnerability in Anuj's gaze that tugged at her heartstrings, inviting her to delve deeper into the emotions swirling between them. Their eyes met in a silent exchange, conveying emotions too profound to articulate. As they stood locked in this silent embrace, time seemed to stand still, drawing them closer to each other, both physically and emotionally.

Yet, amidst the intensity, Anupama didn't feel uncomfortable. Instead, a strange sense of warmth enveloped her.....the same kind that she felt when he had engulfed in his arms on the day of the pooja....offering her solace in the midst of turmoil.

Meanwhile, Anuj felt a surge of conflicting emotions coursing through him as Anupama's hands clutched his suit. His heart pounded with a mixture of fear, frustration and an overwhelming desire to protect her at all costs. His mind raced with a flurry of thoughts, each one more chaotic than the last as his grip, involuntary, traveled from her elbows to the palms, that clutched his suit in a tight grasp and held them there firmly.

Anupama's breath hitched as his hands traced along hers but she didn't dare look down as he held her gaze in a silent assurance while hers reflected a myriad of emotions....guilt...confusion.....and a strange feeling of longing that she couldn't quite comprehend.

Anuj:- How could you Anu?....I know tt...tum hurt thi....tumhe us wakt kisi se baat nahi karni thi....mujhse bhi nahi....but tum kya koi safe jagah nahi dhund sakti thi akele rehne ke liye?....tumhe ek under construction building me hi jaana tha?.....agar kal kuch ho jata to....

He spoke in a trembling voice that had a mixture of anger and concern for Anupama and she knew that it was her actions that caused him this hurt.

Anu:- Anuj I m sorry.....mujhe realize nahi hua us wakt ki mai kaha jaa rahi thi....

Her voice faltered as she tried to find the right words to respond but Anuj knew that it wasn't the first time she had put herself in danger.

Anuj:- Well this is not the first time you didn't realize....right?.....tum isse pehle bhi yeh kar chuki ho.

He reminded her, his tone laced with a tinge of accusation and Anupama's eyes went saucers as he revealed how he knew all about the incident when Rittika had saved her.

Anuj:- I know all about how Rittika pulled you away from an accident a while ago....Tab bhi tumhe realize nahi hua hoga na tum kaha jaa rhi ho?.....Answer me?

He questioned her and Anupama didn't know how to defend herself or even how to apologize.

Anu:- Anuj...

She whispered in remorse but they were so close that her voice reached his ears and hearing the pang of guilt and pain in her voice, Anuj's piercing gaze softened as it bore into her eyes.

Anuj:- All I want to know is why Anu?.....Why do you always put yourself in harm's way?

He coaxed her to answer but in a gentler tone and the depth of his concern for her left Anupama momentarily speechless, her heart aching with the weight of his words.

Anu:- I don't do it intentionally Anuj.....I don't have a death wish.....lekin pata nahi kabhi kabhi aisii situation aa jaati hai....ki khayal hi nahi rehta hai ki ho kya rha hai.

She confessed, her voice tinged with a mixture of regret and frustration and hearing her, Anuj's expression softened with a glimmer of understanding in his eyes as he, instinctively, replied without much thought.

Anuj:- To khayal hona chahiye Anu....aur yeh khayal koi aur nahi rakhega....tumhe khud rakhna hoga......kyuki agar tumhe kuch ho gaya na to mai.....

His voice trailed off as he hesitated, the meaning of his words sinking in but Anupama still waited, her heart pounding in anticipation.

There was a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes, a vulnerability she hadn't seen before and it drew her in, deepening her sense of connection to him. She could almost feel the weight of his unspoken words hanging in the air, heavy with emotion and meaning but perhaps she wanted to hear it from him.

She let out softly, her voice barely above a murmur as she posed the question, her eyes searching his for answers she wasn't sure she was ready to hear while a solitary lock of hair danced in the air, swaying gracefully before her face, momentarily blocking Anuj's view of her features.

As her words lingered, Anuj felt his resolve falter in the close quarters of the elevator. His fingertips, guided by an instinct he couldn't explain, brushed against her cheek as he gently tucked the stray lock of hair behind her ears as he confessed.

Anuj:- To mai kya kar jaunga.....yeh mujhe bhi nahi pata.

He declared, his tone unwavering, filled with fierce determination to protect her at any cost and the raw honesty in his words along with his soft touch that still lingered on her skin struck Anupama, sending shivers down her spine.

She felt a rush of warmth flood her cheeks as Anuj's words echoed in her ears, his words resonating with a depth of emotion that touched her soul.

Her lips parted to say something but no words emerged as she struggled to articulate the storm of emotions raging within her and this mere gesture put Anuj on the edge.

His heart quickened as his gaze traveled to her parting lips, making him aware of the proximity they shared and a forbidden rush of desire overwhelmed him. No matter how much he tried, he couldn't tear his gaze away from her lips and soon his senses started to kick in.

He was crossing a boundary.

He thought to himself as he looked at his one hand slightly brushing against Anupama's cheeks and the other holding her palm in a firm grip over his suit.

The pure emotions he held in his eyes soon turned into pangs of guilt as he slowly separated himself from Anupama, withdrawing his hand from her cheeks, loosening his grip on her hands and as he did it, Anupama felt a sense of loss wash over her.

The warmth she had felt in his presence began to dissipate, leaving Anupama with a sense of unease and as it did, reality began to sink in.

What the hell is she doing? How can she be so close to Anuj?

A plethora of thoughts flooded her mind as she removed her hands that were clutching Anuj's suit and the expression on her face told Anuj that he had made her uncomfortable.

Damn it !! How can you do this to her Anuj? You know she is not comfortable with physical touch? She is just your friend.....How dare you cross that boundary?

He reprimanded himself for letting his emotions dictate his actions, his heart sinking at the realization of his misstep. As he saw Anupama carefully avoiding his gaze, he felt a pang of regret gnawing at him, a fear that he had jeopardized their friendship with his actions.

However, before he could muster the courage to apologize, a sudden realization struck him, leaving him puzzled and introspective.

Why didn't Anupama push him away? Why did she look so comfortable with him?

He wondered, looking at her but little did he know, she was pondering over the same thing, trying to deal with the complexities of her emotions.

Anupama agar tujhe Anuj ke kareeb aane se itni hi problem thi.....to tune kuch bola kyu nahi?....Why were you so comfortable with him?....Tujhe to unse alag ho jana chahiye tha na....tujhe unke kareeb hone me sukoon kyu mehsoos ho rha tha?

She struggled with a foreign emotion that she couldn't describe, her mind trying to find a rationale behind her actions but deep down, she knew there wasn't one.

Therefore, she settled for the one she was familiar with.

Anuj is her friend. He can hug her. It was just a hug. Nothing more and that is why she was comfortable with him. There is nothing wrong with hugging a friend. Nothing !!

She reasoned with herself, seeking solace in familiar thoughts and with a strong resolve, turned her gaze to meet Anuj's.

His breath was erratic from the confrontation just like hers and his eyes held an unknown fear that she could somehow comprehend.

However, before she could put those fears at ease, Anuj, instantly, spoke up, finding her eyes settled on him.

Anuj:- I'm really sorry Anu. I didn't mean to....

His apology hung in the air, not knowing if it was enough to mend the awkwardness that had crept between them but Anupama understood him.

Anu:- It's okay Anuj !! It was just a hug. There is nothing wrong with hugging a friend.

She stated, trying to reassure him as well as herself that nothing wrong happened between them but Anuj knew, very well, that it was something more than a hug, they shared a few moments ago.

However, Anupama's soft yet firm tone was clear on how she comprehended that close encounter between them and he didn't want to make things more complicated by invalidating her thoughts.

Anuj:- Yeah exactly.....I was saying the same thing....hum dost hai aur mai apne dosto ko takleef me nahi dekh sakta.....chahe fir wo Devu ho....Bunty ho....ya fir tum.

He replied in a desperate attempt to do away with the awkwardness between them but Anupama's subconscious self, wanted to know how she became so important to him in a matter of months.

Anu:- Devu aur Bunty to aapke saalon purane dost hai Anuj.....lekin mai to aap se abhi kuch mahino pehle mili hoo....fir aap....

She spoke up instinctively, her words trailing off as she felt her vulnerability getting exposed with each letter but Anuj understood exactly what she wanted to hear.

Anuj:- Bunty se bhi to tum kuch mahine pehle hi mili ho na....tum kya use Devika se kam pyaar karti ho?

He questioned Anupama with a small smile and she nodded, acknowledging his point, her eyes flickering with a mixture of understanding and gratitude.

Anuj:- To fir tum aisa kaise soch sakti ho ki tum mere liye kam important hogi.....you are my friend Anu....just like Devu and Bunty.....aur mai apne dosto ko takleef me nahi dekh sakta....you got it?

He affirmed, his sincerity shining through, a silent request for her to recognize the depth of their bond and Anupama hummed softly with a smile, understanding him.

Looking at Anupama feel at ease, Anuj let out a sigh of relief and reached out to Anupama with a heartfelt plea.

Anuj:- Now promise me....aaj ke baad kuch bhi ho jaaye...kitni bhi badi problem kyu na create ho jaye.....tum apna khayal rakhna nahi bhulogi !!

He implored, seeking a promise from Anupama to prioritize her well being amidst the chaos and Anupama understood his concern for her this time.

Anu:- Mai nahi bhulngi !!

She stated in assurance, her voice laced with resolve, a silent promise to prioritize her own self care and cherish their bond and hearing her, Anuj's next words flowed effortlessly, a continuation of their unspoken agreement.

Anuj:- Pinky promise?

He asked, his voice carrying a hint of playfulness as he extended his pinky finger in front of her but Anupama was confused as to what it meant.

Anu:- Wo kya hota hai?

She inquired, looking at him with a puzzled expression and hearing her, Anuj, without offering any explanation, simply took her pinky finger in his, guiding her through the motions of a pinky promise.

Anuj:- Pinky promise !!

He exclaimed with a grin, reaffirming the gesture and seeing this, Anupama's confusion melted into a chuckle, a gentle smile tugging at her lips as she indulged in his playful antics.

Anu:- Pinky promise !!

She echoed, her smile reflecting the newfound ease between them and with their bond reaffirmed, Anuj's gaze turned to the present moment.

Anuj:- Aab chale....nahi to tumhe late ho jayega.

He remarked, looking at the time on his watch and Anupama nodded in agreement as she pushed the button that opened the elevator doors.

As the duo stepped out of the elevator and began to make their way to the exit, they were interrupted by the familiar voice of Vikram.

Vikram:- Anuj.....Anu.....tum dono kaha se aa rhe ho?

He inquired, curiosity lacing his words as he stood near the reception area along with Devika and this sudden confrontation caught Anupama off guard.

Anu:- Wo hum....

She hesitated for a moment, searching for an explanation as Vikram and Devika walked up to her and Anuj but realizing that she was struggling to find an excuse, Anuj chimed in to save her.

Anuj:- Aa nahi jaa rhe the....mai Anupama ko parking tak chodne jaa raha tha.

He finished, avoiding any possibility of cross questioning from the duo and hearing him, Anupama breathed a sigh of relief.

Devika:- Okay lekin Anu.....tu abhi tak gayi kyu nahi hai?....don't tell me us Vanraj ne papers sign nahi kiye.

Meanwhile, Devika inquired, worried that Vanraj could have refused to sign the papers and Anupama addressed her concern instantly.

Anu:- Nahi wo.....actually papers sign karwane me hi time lag gaya....but ho gaye.....aab bas lawyer ko dene hai yeh.

She explained, a hint of relief evident in her voice as she confirmed the completion of their plan and Devika smiled, feeling content hearing her.

Devika:- Thank God....chal fir saath me chalke de aate hai.

She suggested eagerly and Anupama was about to say yes when Devika cut her off in between.

Devika:- In fact hum sab chalte hai kahi bahar....for an outing.......finally aaj kitne dino baad sab relaxed hai.

She continued, a sense of excitement reflecting in her words but Anupama glanced at the time and realized that it was getting late.

Anu:- Devu time dekh kya ho raha hai?

She inquired, wanting to adhere to her schedule but Devika reassured her with a casual glance at her watch.

Devika:- Abhi to sirf 7 baje hai yrr.....abhi to puri raat baat baaki hai.

She replied, nonchalantly, dismissing any concerns about time but Anupama was not convinced.

Anu:- Ek kaam kar tu puri raat bahar bhuto ki tarah ghum.....mai yeh papers lawyer ko dene ke baad ghar jaa rahi hoo......mujhe padhai karke jaldi sone hai......kyuki meri kal subah office me meeting hai.

She decided, laying out her priorities and Anuj chimed in with a similar sentiment.

Anuj:- And same goes for me....meri bhi kal subah meeting hai to....I'm retiring early !!

He announced too tired to go anywhere after the hectic day and hearing him, the ever observant Vikram couldn't help but question their synchronized schedule.

Vikram:- Ek minute agar teri bhi meeting hai koi.....to Anu ki subah subah tere alawa kiske saath meeting hai office me?

He pointed out in a curious tone and Anuj rolled his eyes at the question.

Anuj:- Mere Mehra khandan ke bujhe hue chirag.....meri aur Anu dono ki ek hi meeting hai Mishra ji ke saath......kitna mushkil hai yeh samajhna?

He explained in a playful tone and Vikram faked annoyance at his answer.

Vikram:- Aur tum dono ke liye kitna hi mushkil hai yahi seedhe seedhe bolna?.....yeh ek ek karke kaun batata hai?

He retorted in the same tone and Devika joined in, taking a jab at the duo.

Devika:- Inke jaise boring log.....aur kaun !!

She joked, mocking the duo for not participating in the fun and Anupama, hit her gently over the shoulder in fake offense.

Anu:- Hum tujhe boring lagte hai?

She inquired in an amusing tone and Devika continued her banter hearing her.

Devika:- Nahi bilkul nahi....Tum dono mujhe boring nahi buddhe lagte ho !!

She teased with a mischievous grin on her face and Anuj couldn't help but join in on their childish banter.

Anuj:- Accha agar hum buddhe hai.....to aap dono jawan logo ka kya plan hai?

He retorted, questioning their exciting plans for the night but Devika turned the question back to Vikram.

Devika:- Bata na Bunty......kya plan hai?

She asked him to tell Anupama and Anuj about their plans with a proud smile but Vikram grew hesitant as he realized that he too won't be joining her for any plan tonight.

Vikram:- Wo....wo....

He stammered, struggling to come up with an answer but Devika insisted on him to speak up.

Devika:-Yeh wo wo kya kar raha hai?.....bata na jo decide kiya tha.

She said, reminding him of their earlier conversation and Vikram had to finally admit the truth.

Vikram:- Yrr Devu.....jab wo plan banaya tha to yaad nahi tha ki aaj Ritu wapas aa rahi hai....abhi thode der pehle yaad aaya ki use airport se pickup krna hai to....

He confessed sheepishly and Devika gave him an irked look while Anuj and Anupama burst into laughter, seeing the youngsters plan derail.

Devika:- To aab tu bhi mujhe dhoka de raha hai?

She complained, making a baby face but Vikram was well aware of her tactics.

Vikram:- Ofcourse.....tujhe kya lagta hai mai apni biwi ko chod ke tere saath ghumunga?

He joked in an amusing tone and Devika couldn't resist taking a playful jab at him.

Devika:- Bilkul nahi.....biwi ka khauf jo hai.

She quipped, her chuckle ringing out and Anupama joined in as she teased Vikram.

Anu:- Khauf nahi....use pyaar kehte hai pagal chokri.

She corrected Devika and Vikram blushed a little at her comment which Devika, instantly, noticed.

Devika:- Accha to pyaar to mai bhi karti hoo Ritu se.....ek kaam karte hai.....tu ghar jaa....mai jaati hoo Bunty ke saath airport Ritu ko pick karne.....fir hum teeno waha se dinner pe chal lenge.

She proposed mischievously but without wasting a second, Vikram, immediately, refused her.

Vikram:- Oye sochna bhi mat.....meri biwi itne dino baad mujhe mil rahi hai.....mujhe koi kebab me haddi nahi chahiye.

He stated firmly, not wanting to share his wife and his time with anyone and Devika understood his emotions perfectly as she knew Rittika was returning home after almost a month.

Devika:- Accha beta....to tera romance ka plan hai.....pehle bata deta to mai tum dono ke liye honeymoon suite book kar deti.

She quipped with a smirk and hearing her remark, a mischievous grin appeared on Vikram's lips.

Vikram:- Mere pass mera ghar hai.....tu bol to tere aur us event management wale ke liye book karwa doo.

He suggested in an amusing yet low voice to Devika about someone she has been involved back and forth with but both Anuj and Anupama heard him and knew instantly what he meant.

Anu & Anuj:- Bunty.

They called out simultaneously in a reprimanding tone for going overboard with his jokes as they felt protective of Devika but Devika stepped in to save Vikram.

Devika:- Chill guys.....wo mazak kar raha hai.....itna offend to mai bhi nahi hoti.....jitna tum log ho jaate ho.

She reassured, flashing a bashful smile to both Anuj and Anupama that she doesn't mind these jokes and Vikram joined in, agreeing with her earlier assessment.

Vikram:- Tune bilkul sahi kaha tha.....yeh dono sach me boring hai.

He concurred with Devika and both Anuj and Anupama rolled their eyes at his statement.

Anuj:- Bunty darling.....agar tune apna yeh boring jaap band nahi kiya na.....to tune itne dino me jitne bhi interesting gul khilaye hai na.....wo sab jaake Ritu ko bata dunga.

He threatened to spill Vikram secrets in front of Rittika if he didn't stop with his jokes but Vikram was confused as to which secret he was talking about as they shared a lot of them.

Vikram:- Matalab?

He raised his eyebrow in question, pretending to not have any secrets but Anuj started with the least embarrassing one.

Anuj:- Matalab yeh hai ki tujhe kya lagta hai.....mai notice nahi karta.....jabse Ritu gayi hai.....tabse teri junk khane ki aur dawaiya na time pe lene ki habits wapas aa gayi hai.....dikhta nahi hai mujhe kya?

He pointed out his eating habits and Anupama and Devika stifled a laugh watching the duo's relationship while Vikram looked annoyed at Anuj's interference.

Vikram:- Tujhe kaise pata yeh sab?......Ishika ne bataya na?.....usko to mai batata hoo kal....jab dekho tab sab usse meri jaasusi karwate rehte hai.

He complained like a baby against everyone monitoring his eating habits and Anupama couldn't help but take a jibe at Anuj and Vikram's marriage-like dynamics.

Anu:- Bunty.....Anuj ke alawa aur kaun karayega aapki jasusi?

She quipped, a playful glint in her eyes as she glanced at Vikram but Vikram was too annoyed to notice her remark.

Vikram:- Meri biwi....aur kaun....pehle to sirf wahi karwati thi....aab yeh bhi shuru ho gaya hai.

He whined but Anuj couldn't help but take Rittika's side on this.

Anuj:- Teri harkate dekh ke lag raha hai....bilkul sahi karwati thi wo.

He remarked, sounding proud of Rittika and Devika and Anupama silently watched their banter unfold while Vikram called out Anuj for taking Rittika's side but not taking her calls.

Vikram:- Waah beta.....naraaz usse itna hai ki uska call tak nahi utha raha......aur side lene ki jab baat aa rahi hai to meri jagah uski tarafdari kar raha hai.....tera bhi sahi hai.

He commented without taking in consideration Anupama's presence and both Anuj and Devika hoped that Anupama didn't question them.

However, as the air around them grew tense, Anupama sensed that it wasn't a mere joke by Vikram but there was something more to the story.

Anu:- Kuch hua hai kya?.....Anuj naraaz kyu hai Rittika se?

She questioned, her curiosity getting the better of her and Vikram bit his tongue in realization hearing her while Anuj waved off her concern with a dismissive gesture.

Anuj:- Kuch nahi Anu.....yeh bas bakwas karta rehta hai.....aisa kuch nahi hai.

He replied casually, not wanting to delve into the intricacies of his interactions with Rittika and diverted the attention from the topic as he asked Vikram to leave for the airport.

Anuj:- Aur tu.....abhi tujhe Ritu ko airport lene nahi jaana hai....ki yaha khade hoke humse gappe lada raha hai.

He reminded Vikram and he, suddenly, realized that he was getting late to pick up Rittika.

Vikram:- Oh haan....bye guys.....will see you tomorrow.

He, hurriedly, announced, realizing that he needed to leave promptly.

Not wanting to waste any more time, he bid everyone a quick bye and swiftly made his way out of the area.

Devika:- Have fun !!

Devika called out after him, her voice carrying a sense of tease and Anuj sighed at their non-stop banter.

Vikram:- Will do !!

He replied over his shoulder, a smile playing on his lips as he understood the comment that Devika made as he walked out the exit.

With Vikram off to pick up Rittika, Devika decided to tag along with Anupama to the lawyer's office.

Devika:- Anu hum bhi chalte hai....tujhe yeh papers bhi dene hai na lawyer ko.

She suggested, ready to accompany her on the errand and Anupama agreed, realizing the importance of delivering the papers promptly.

Anu:- Haan.....jaldi chal.....kahi unka office band na ho jaaye.

She fretted, glancing at her watch, concerned about the time, while Devika assured her to wait as she went to retrieve the car from the parking lot.

Devika:- Tu yahi ruk.....mai parking se car leke aati hoo.

Sensing Anupama's urgency, Devika acknowledged her concern and hurried off to fetch the car, leaving Anupama and Anuj alone momentarily.

Devika:- Bye Anuj !!

She bid him farewell with a warm hug, and Anuj reciprocated the sentiment with a gentle kiss on her forehead.

Anuj:- Take care !!

He wished her well as she walked away, leaving him standing with Anupama alone in the reception area.

As Devika's figure disappeared into the distance, a heavy silence settled between Anuj and Anupama, the absence of her presence amplifying the awkwardness of their shared moment.

Anuj shifted uncomfortably, adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose, searching for something to break the palpable tension that enveloped them and return them to the normalcy they were sharing a few minutes ago with their friends around.

Anuj:- Soo kal ki meeting ke liye ready?

He finally ventured, trying to stop the awkwardness creeping up between them but Anupama just hummed in response, her mind clearly preoccupied with thoughts beyond the upcoming meeting.

Anuj:- Anu....is there something going on in your mind?

Anuj's voice softened as he addressed her, sensing her distraction and Anupama, finally, admitted that there was something that she wanted to talk about.

Anu:- Ek baat kahu....aap bura to nahi manenge?

She asked tentatively, her words tinged with uncertainty, wondering about Anuj's reaction and Anuj smiled in assurance, asking her to continue without any hesitation.

Anuj:- Mai kabhi tumahri kisi baat ka bura maan sakta hoo kya Anu?

He reassured her gently but Anupama hesitated as she, carefully, chose her words.

Anu:- Mujhe nahi pata aapke aur Rittika ke beech kya hua hai but.....bas itna kahoongi ki dosto se zada din tak naraaz nahi rehte Mr. Kapadia.

She suggested cautiously, trying not to intervene too much in Anuj's affairs but hearing her, Anuj's demeanor shifted slightly.

Anuj:- Aur agar us dost ne tumahre kisi aur dost ke saath kuch galat kiya ho.....tab bhi nahi?

He questioned Anupama, a flicker of defensiveness crossing his features while Anupama responded with wisdom, born of experience.

Anu:- Galtiyaan to sabse hoti hai na Anuj....mujhse.....aapse....har kisi se hoti hai.....agar kisiko apni galti ka ehsaas hai.....to mujhe nahi lagta hume use aur takleef deni chahiye.

She continued, her words carrying a gentle yet firm conviction and Anuj listened to her advice attentively.

Anu:- Har cheez ke peeche koi na koi wajah hoti hai........aur jab baat dosto ki ho to......I think hume unse baat karni chahiye.....unke actions ke peeche ki wajah janni chahiye.....kabhi kabhi baat karne se sab sulajh jaata hai Anuj....sab kuch.

She added, asking Anuj to sort out the differences with Rittika by openly communicating with her and Anuj nodded thoughtfully, acknowledging her perspective.

Anuj:- Tumne jo kaha hai....uske baare me mai sochunga.....that's all I can say for now.

He promised to consider her advice and Anupama smiled softly at his gesture.

Anu:- Well.....that's all I can ask for !!

She replied, a sense of relief evident in her voice and just as their conversation ended, Devika arrived at the entrance with the car to pick up Anupama.

Anu:- Aab mai chalti hoo....bye.

She said as she prepared to leave and Anuj nodded, feeling content at the return of normalcy in their dynamics.

However, before she could take his leave, a concern popped in Anuj's mind, which he thought to convey to Anupama.

Anuj:- Anu

He called out, his tone laced with urgency and Anupama turned back to face him, her brows furrowing in concern, noticing the intensity in his voice.

Anu:- Haan?

She inquired, waiting for him to say something, her anticipation palpable and he did as he reminded her of the media outside.

Anuj:- Tell Devika to use the back gate......saamne media hai.

He instructed her, concern evident in his voice and Anupama nodded in understanding, once again, gratitude welling up within her.

Anu:- Thank you !!

She managed to speak, her voice filled with appreciation for his thoughtfulness and care while Anuj gave her a small smile, acknowledging her words and the emotions that reflected in her eyes.

Anuj:- Bye !!

He waved at her as she turned back to leave and as the sound of her car driving off in the distance reached his ears, Anuj couldn't help but feel a surge of admiration and gratitude towards her.

Despite facing adversity and challenges, Anupama maintained a remarkable level of kindness and forgiveness within her that tugged at Anuj's heartstrings.

How can you be so sweet Anu?.....tumahre saath logo ne itna kuch kiya hai.....fir bhi tum unke baare me kabhi bura nahi sochti ho.....kaise kar leti ho yrr?

He wondered, recalling how Anupama had asked him to mend his friendship with Rittika even after the betrayal Rittika had served her in the past but in no way, that reflected in her tone.

She, genuinely, cared about everyone and her ability to see the good in people, even those who had wronged her, struck a chord deep within Anuj's soul. Her capacity to be empathetic towards the world, even after it had broken her, filled him with awe and admiration. Her courage to trust people, even after being betrayed so many times, left him humbled.

At that moment, Anuj realized the immense value of Anupama's innocence and purity of heart. He made a silent vow to himself to protect and cherish that innocence at all costs, for it was a rare and precious gift in a world filled with darkness and deceit.
