Emily lay perfectly still, barely breathing.
Indy squeezed her hands. "Em?"
"I'm here, Dad."
Lizavet elbowed Shorty. "You can let go of her feet."
"Oh." Shorty moved back.
Lizavet carefully reached under Emily's ankles and waited in silence. Her fingers were barely touching her ankles.
"What are you searching for?" Indy asked.
"A pulse."
"I'm not dead," Emily winced. "I just hurt... a lot."
"This is not a blood pulse. It is a... nervous system pulse. If I can find it, I can reset your nervous system and that will help with the healing." Lizavet shook her head and then moved from Emily's feet, to where Indy was holding Emily's hands so she couldn't fight.
Lizavet put her hands on top of Indy's. "You can let go of her, Papa. Let me do my healing work."
Indy sat back, noticing that his hands were trembling. "Never thought I'd have to do that. Never thought I'd have to help hurt my own child. I'm sorry, Em."
"Dad," Emily smiled. "Taking a hot knife and sealing the wounds will help the healing. I'm not angry."
Indy swallowed "But its one of the things that the apkallu said I'd do. They said I'd hurt you..." his voice broke. "And I want nothing to do with the fulfillment of their prophecy. Or anyone's prophecy. Or the unseen."
Lizavet saw tears in his eyes. "Why Papa?"
"Because the first time I saw the unseen and looked into the supernatural realm - my mother died."
