Chapter 1: The Unlikely Duo
Walter Beckett and Lance Sterling were an odd pair, to say the least. Walter, a brilliant but socially awkward scientist, and Lance, a suave and charismatic spy, couldn't be more different. Yet, fate had brought them together, and now they found themselves working side by side.
"Friends, right?" Walter asked, a hopeful glimmer in his eyes.
"Sure, Wilbur, sure," Lance replied, his tone laced with a hint of sarcasm. "You know my name is Walter, Lance. We've known each other for ages."
Walter sighed, accustomed to Lance's constant misnaming. Despite their differences, Walter admired Lance's skills and bravery. He had always looked up to him, even if Lance didn't always acknowledge their friendship.
One day, their paths crossed on a mission. Lance effortlessly disarmed most of the men, his moves fluid and precise. Meanwhile, Walter's gadgets whizzed past, providing support from a distance. The criminals didn't stand a chance against their combined skills.
However, their success was short-lived. As Walter focused on controlling his gadgets, he failed to notice the boss of the criminals sneaking up behind him. The man was intimidating, with a menacing aura that sent shivers down Walter's spine.
"God, you're just a kid, aren't ya?" the man sneered, his voice dripping with contempt.
Lance watched with anger building inside him, his fists clenched tightly. He desperately wanted to reach Walter, to protect him from harm, but he was too far away. Helplessly, he witnessed the man deliver a brutal punch to Walter's face, sending him crashing to the ground.
Walter huffed and struggled to stand, his body aching from the blow. "Look, sir-" he began, his voice trembling.
But before he could finish his sentence, the man struck him again, this time with even more force. Walter fell to the floor, blood trickling from his split lip, his hair disheveled.
The man laughed heartily, relishing in Walter's pain. "Poor kid's out of his depth," he taunted, his voice filled with sadistic pleasure.
Lance's eyes burned with fury as he watched his friend being mercilessly attacked. Without a second thought, he raised his gun and shot the man, his expression void of any emotion. The man crumpled to the ground, his life extinguished.
Rushing to Walter's side, Lance knelt down, concern etched across his face. "Are you alright?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine worry.
Walter coughed, spitting out a mouthful of blood. His voice was hoarse as he replied, "He was... pleasant."
Lance couldn't help but chuckle, relieved to see Walter's spirit still intact despite the pain he had endured. Gently, he helped Walter to his feet, supporting him as they made their way to safety.
Little did they know, this mission would be the catalyst for a deeper bond between them. As they faced danger together, their friendship would be tested, and they would discover that they were stronger together than they ever could be apart.

Walter smiled weakly, his gratitude evident in his eyes. "It's not your fault, Lance. You did what you could. Besides, I've always been a bit accident-prone."
Lance shook his head, his voice firm. "No, Walter. From now on, I promise to have your back. We're a team, and I won't let anything happen to you again."
Walter's heart swelled with warmth, touched by Lance's sincerity. For the first time, he felt truly seen and valued by his friend. "Thank you, Lance. That means a lot to me."
