The sun shines down through the leaves of an old oak, underneath it, is Lee having himself a preparatory nap
"You just gonna sit there all day, or are you gonna help out?"
Naomi struts up to Lee
"Nah, rather conserve energy"
Lee says nonchalantly
"If THIS is conserving energy, you better hope you unleash it when Rushmore gets here."
Naomi sits down next to him
"Seems like this one's gonna be tough huh?"
Lee props himself up
"Yeah, despite being a highschool team, they're university level..."
Naomi drops her head, staring at fallen leaf
"I joined in the summer right?"
Lee asks
"And it's already fall..."
Flashback
"Naomi, Naomi! Look"
Lee jumps, pointing at the ground
"What is it!"
Naomi looks down
To her dismay, it's just a leaf.
"It's a leaf!"
Lee smiles
"What about it?"
Naomi stands confused
"It's a weird color!"
"Of course it is, doofus!"
Naomi pinches his cheek
Naomi picks up the leaf, and compares it to the ones still on the branches
"It means it's almost winter..."
Naomi looks saddened by the fact
"What's wrong?"
Lee taps her shoulder
"Nothing..."
She looks away
"Not nothing, tell me!"
Lee takes her face in his hands and makes her face him
"You... You're leaving in spring, aren't you."
Tears trail down Naomi's face
Lee was shocked, yet tired to comfort her to the best of his abilities.
"I am but..."
Lee thinks
"What?"
She wipes tears from her eyes
"I-I'll come back! When I'm older!"
Lee shouted
Naomi's face lit up, as the scene faded to white.
Flashback End
"You never did..."
Naomi whispered
"I know"
Lee responded
"I... Didn't think you heard that"
Naomi looks away
"It was hard moving away, I didn't want to leave you guys"
He leans against the tree
"Kay left a year later too"
She does the same
A deafening silence befell the two, both unsure on what to say next until a high pitched, bossy voice boomed throughout the field
"Come on guys! Rushmore Academy will be here in four days! Four! If we don't get in proper fighting shape, we'll be nothing more than losers!"
Alisa, megaphone in hand, broadcasts to the entire field
"I guess that's our queue?"
Naomi taps his shoulder
"Guess it is"
Lee gets up
The two get up, dusting off some dirt on their uniforms
"Nice catching up with ya."
Lee smiles
"You two. Doofus."
Naomi smiles back
The two share a laugh and walk back to the field to train, Naomi chucks a gumball in her mouth, while Lee puts on his game face.
