"How long does it take to wash one, like 10 seconds?" April says following Madelyn
Madelyn rolls her eyes "Look, I don't like a filthy kitchen, either. Dirty cereal bowls in the sink aren't gonna exactly tip the scales" she says stopping at the nurses station
"Well, you could at least put the bowls in the sink" April scolds
"Yeah, yeah" Madelyn dismisses, when she doesn't get a response she looks up at the redhead who's staring into the distance "Okay, fine i'll do the dishes geez"
"Do I know that woman?" April asks
"Huh?" Madelyn questions
"The one that's staring at us, well you"
Madelyn turns around following Aprils eye-line "Shit" Madelyn says turning around quickly "No, no, no" she mumbles
"What?" April questions
"My mother" Madelyn mutters
"Your mother- Oh god, Oh god she looks pissed. Did you tell her?" April asks
"No" Madelyn replies
"Well she looks like she knows" April exclaims "Who did you tell?"
"Uhhh, Derek, Amelia and Lizzie...damn it Lizzie" Madelyn groans "I don't talk to my mom, only on her birthday and mother's day and christmas"
"Well, She's walking over" April whispers
"Please lord" Madelyn begs
"Madelyn Rose Shepherd" Carolyn says
Madelyn puts on a fake smile and turns around "Hi mom" she says
"So... I understand congratulations are in order" Carolyn says before diverging her attention to April "You must be April" she says
April smiles sweetly "Yea-yes, it's a pleasure" she says holding out her hand only to be ignored

After some convincing Madelyn managed to get her mom into a quiet room so they could have a proper conversation
"I'm sure it was a shock. I mean, I was shocked. I can't even imagine what you must be feeling. Actually, I can. I can imagine it because I..." April rambles
Madelyn sighs "You know what? April , don't. She doesn't care. Why are you here mom?"
"Because my daughter got married without telling me!" Carolyn yells
"Oh come on, you've never been involved in my life, why start now?" Madelyn asks
"Don't do that" Carolyn says "Don't make me out to be the villain, i'm here and i'm trying. And forgive me if i'm interested in who my daughter has decided to spend the rest of her life with. I mean god knows what she's after" Carolyn directs towards April
"Don't you dare! You're not gonna march in here and start questioning my wife's character" Madelyn yells
Carolyn scoffs "You want to talk about her character? She left a man at the altar. She broke his heart and humiliated him in front of everyone that he loves. I have no idea what she's capable of, never mind you"
"Okay, that's enough" Madelyn replies "This is totally inappropriate"
"What's inappropriate is the engagement was 15 minutes at a rest stop on the turnpike" Carolyn says "What would your father think"
Madelyn scoffs "This conversation is over" she says taking Aprils hand and leading her out of the room

"Let me, let me talk to her. Maybe she really is just worried about you. I mean it's completely normal for moms to be concerned-"
"April we don't have that kind of relationship okay, just leave it. Please" Madelyn says before walking away

"I hate your brother" Callie says as Madelyn sits down
Arizona turns to her wife "Owen said not to talk about it"
"I'm not. I'm talking to myself. I hate Derek Shepherd. Really? Why? Oh, 'cause he's an arrogant, stealing bastard. I totally agree" Callie mutters to herself
"Do you ladies think she's hot?" Cristina asks showing Callie, Arizona and Madelyn a picture of a woman
"I'm a married woman" Madelyn replies
"Yeah, very" Arizona replies
"And now I hate you" Callie says to her wife before getting up

After some convincing from April and a conversation with Derek, Madelyn hesitantly agreed to have a civilised conversation with her mom
"Mom" Madelyn says walking back into the room from earlier
"You're back" Carolyn says "Are we ready to have a proper conversation?" she asks
"Yes" Madelyn and April both reply as they take a seat opposite Carolyn
"Good. Now, let's talk about the children" Carolyn says
"Oh, my God" Madelyn exclaims
"Will you have children?" Carolyn asks
"Yes. Yes" April says instantly as Madelyn says "No, I don't know- I mean maybe"
Carolyn ignores her daughters rambling "In what religious tradition will they be raised?"
""We don't know. We haven't talked about what religious tradition we will or won't raise our theoretical children in yet" Madelyn replies
Carolyn notices the look on Aprils face "That's a conversation you might want to have" she turns to April "You are a born-again Christian, who I presume is pro-life"
April nods "That's right"
"Will your children be taught that people who are pro-choice go to hell or their pro-choice mother is going to hell or their grandmother?"
April interrupts "Wait. Whoa! I-I don't think anyone is going to hell. I-I-it's so much more complicated than that"
Carolyn continues "Will they stop supporting medical institutions that perform abortions or provide information about abortions like, for example, this hospital? Will they vote to stop supporting stem-cell research? All six of my children are doctors so medicine is very important to me"
"Stop it mom. Just stop" Madelyn begs

"Oh, my God, I'm gonna say this to you for the last time, all right? This relationship is not new. This decision was not rash. You only feel that way because you didn't get to weigh in on it" Madelyn yells
"Because you didn't include me in it, like everything else in your life" Carolyn yells back
"I don't need to include you! You practically ignored me when I needed you so why would I want you now!" Madelyn replies
"Stop!" April interrupts "Stop. Please, let's just go home Madelyn, okay. I'm sorry Mrs. Shepherd but this conversation is going no where. There are a lot of things we still haven't figured out, but we will figure them out...Madelyn and I. But if you... if you think that I am judging you or anyone because of my beliefs, then I'm-I'm so sorry because I'm not. That is not me. And... I-I-I would love to talk to you about that sometime" April sighs "We did something that wasn't responsible, but we did it because we love each other and we want to spend every day together until we die"
"I love her. Mom. And I am sorry. But I love her. She's the one" Madelyn says following April out "Don't stay mom, go back home" Madelyn whispers

April and Madelyn sit opposite each other sharing drinks at Webbers birthday celebration
"You don't want kids?" April asks breaking the silence
Madelyn sighs "I knew this would come up. I honestly- I don't know"
"I do" April says "It means a lot to me that we do"
Madelyn meets Aprils gaze "Okay, then we'll have kids"
"Really?" April questions
"Yeah. I have no real reason why I don't, I guess I just assumed I would never meet someone who'd want them with me. But I have. So yes, we'll have kids"
"I love you" April says
"I know" Madelyn teases "I love you too"
"I Uh - I know. What religious tradition I want to bring my kids up in" April says "It's important to me that they're Christian. I thought you knew that"
"That my kids I agreed to having two seconds ago would have different beliefs than I do? That's-that's a little weird, April" Madelyn sighs "Look, I'll...i'm willing to go along with whatever, I just want you and our future babies to be happy and healthy"
April smiles "I wanna have kids with you...now like right now, we could- we could look into IVF or-"
"April. Relax. There's no rush. We're not looking into anything tonight. But tomorrow. We can look tomorrow okay"
"Okay" April replies
