"What are you doing here?"
Evan was confused since they hadn't made any plans, and when he told him he didn't want to celebrate his birthday, he seemed resigned to it. It disappointed Evan a little, as he'd assumed he'd be harder to convince or at least want to watch a movie, but Ryan agreed without further questions and changed the subject.
But now here he was, on the doorstep of Evan's house, wearing a black short-sleeved shirt with a black leather jacket over it and looking damn good. And Evan couldn't do more than ogle.
"You didn't think I wasn't going to let you not celebrate your own birthday, did you?" Ryan declared, taking a step forward that made their chests almost touch. It took Evan a long moment to understand what he was implying, as he could barely focus because of the sight of him, but then he stepped back and let him in.
Ryan automatically dropped his jacket and hung it on the rack in the hallway.
Evan's brown eyes followed his every move, and for a moment, all thoughts faded from his mind. He had also thus forgotten what the ink-haired boy had told him.
"You need to change," Ryan said in a tone that suggested he wasn't taking any objections.
With a shake of his head and a clearing of his throat, Evan finally snapped out of his staring stupor, and the meaning of his words finally dawned on him.
"What? Why?" He blurted out the questions, closing the door behind him.
"We're going out," he explained curtly. Looking at him, Evan realistically had no desire to protest, especially when it meant Ryan would be wearing this outfit for a little longer. However, he hadn't forgotten that he didn't like surprises, so he frowned at the vague answer.
"Where?"
Instead of answering, the black-haired boy sighed and stepped closer. With both hands, he gently grasped Evan above the elbows, offering comfort, and then stared intensely into his eyes.
"Stop with the questions. I promise you'll like this. Let me celebrate the first birthday with my mate." At those words and the soft tone Ryan chose, Evan couldn't protest anymore and nodded.
"What should I wear?" He couldn't resist the question. From what Ryan was wearing, he was planning something spectacular, and he didn't want to be underdressed for the occasion.
"Anything that makes you feel great. We're going to have fun. Anything you've wanted to wear and haven't had the courage, now's your chance." Ryan had a knack for choosing his words, as after his last sentence, Evan had a clear picture in his head that included the depths of his closet where he hadn't dared to look in a long time.
"Okay. Wait here." Evan instructed, hoping he would have the same effect on him that he had when he saw him in the doorway. He didn't have Angie here to help him, so he had to rely on his instincts when it came to fashion.
Speaking of Angie, Evan was surprised that Ryan didn't invite her and Michael since they had been doing everything together for the past few months. He knew even more now that it was a special occasion when his mate decided to spend his birthday alone with him.
As he opened the closet, he could clearly hear Angie's voice in the back of his mind telling him to look as sexy as possible. And while at other times he would have chosen to ignore it, this time he agreed.
Ryan looked like a model who stepped out of a fashion magazine, and so he decided to try to match his appearance. Since Ryan was wearing a black shirt, Evan reached for a white one, but with long sleeves. He quickly buttoned up all the buttons and then pulled a black sweatshirt over it, adjusting it so that the collar and sleeve ends were sticking out, which he eventually pulled up to his elbows.
Next, he put on black pants, which were tight but not as tight as jeans, and he had a chain on his side and completed them with a simple black belt. It was a pretty simple outfit, but as Angie would say, the accessories saved it. Evan chose two silver chains, one thicker and one thinner, which he placed on the sweater, but left the shirt collar to partially overlap, and of course, he didn't forget the rings he wore whenever he went out.
The last thing that was missing was his favourite bracelet, which he decided to wear today for everyone to see.
Satisfied with his outfit, Evan made his way to the bathroom, where he quickly fixed his hair, making it elegantly tousled, and picking up his favourite shoes from his room, he made his way back to his mate.
"Are you trying to kill me?" The words flew out of Ryan's mouth the moment his eyes landed on the boy in front of him. His dark eyes carefully ran over his figure, taking in every detail and every curve of his body until they finally settled on his arm, where a silver snake-like bracelet was situated.
"I could ask you that too," Evan countered immediately, gesturing with his hand to his outfit. Ryan immediately took advantage of this and caught his hand in mid-air, pulling him closer to him. Of course, Evan didn't fight back and appeared right in front of him, with his arms around his waist, and so he naturally wrapped his own around his neck.
Ryan's eyes briefly drifted to his significant other's lips, but he quickly looked back up. It was like slow torture for Evan, his heart pounding loudly to support this claim. It was as if it was trying to jump out of his chest to tell him to finally drop his inhibitions and claim this sexy man as his own.
"If you don't stop looking at me like that, we're going to move to the couch behind you rather than out of the house," he said, meaning it completely.
Ryan's cheeks turned a faint red at the words, and for a moment, it looked like he was considering the suggestion. After that, though, he shook his head and released Evan from his embrace, only to take his hand and pull him towards the door.
"That's not the kind of celebration I envisioned," he declared.
"Just to be clear, I wouldn't object to such a celebration," Evan stated after the front door closed behind them.
Ryan immediately gave him a look that showed how much his words pained him, and Evan was glad he had such an effect on him, otherwise it would have been unfair. One look from him was enough to make Evan want to start promising anything while looking for a thousand ways to get him undressed as quickly as possible. Especially when he was wearing something like today.
"How about we make a deal?" Ryan stopped a few steps away from Evan's house, not letting go of his hand, and turned to face him with a serious expression.
"What kind?" Evan knew she would say yes to whatever he suggested, but at least he had to try not to give in so easily.
"If you let me celebrate your birthday with you, I'll give you a present you won't refuse," he said in a husky tone that sent shivers down Evan's spine.
"And what that's supposed to be?" Evan almost didn't recognize his own voice as it was stuck in his throat, preventing his desire to get out and make itself known. However, he had no doubt that Ryan knew exactly what he was doing to him.
Ryan took a few steps forward again, reaching for Evan's other hand, and when he had a firm hold on both Evan's hands so he couldn't escape, he leaned into his ear and whispered, "I'll let you do whatever you want with me, wherever you want."
Evan's world froze for a moment, and he swallowed hard. His mind was filled with a million ideas that could happen thanks to Ryan's words, and he felt like a dog that had just been waved a bone in front of his nose.
"You won't be leaving my bed for a week," Evan promised the moment he found his voice again, and although it was meant to be a threat, Ryan's grin revealed that he was more than looking forward to this ordeal.
"Don't promise something you can't fulfil," he teased as he saw the effect his words had on him.
Only a few months ago, Evan couldn't imagine them even being together, and now he was thinking of different ways how to rip his clothes off and throw him on his bed. He could barely think in his presence, and the fact that Ryan didn't let him doubt for a second that he felt the same way made his situation even worse.
"If you want to go back and test it, there's still time," Evan suggested, nodding towards where his house was. His empty house since his parents went to visit some family for a few days.
Ryan looked like he was seriously considering his suggestion but then shook his head.
"Nope. That can wait. Now we have to celebrate your birthday." At least one of them was able to think with a cool head in the end, but it wasn't the birthday boy.
"So, you're finally going to tell me where we're going?" Evan caught on immediately and couldn't stop the question.
"We're going to dance," Ryan revealed, lifting their joined hands to demonstrate, making Evan spin in place.
"Okay," Evan giggled, agreeing with his idea, which made him not want to ask anymore.
"Okay?"
"Mm-hmm. Let's have fun," he stated cheerfully, bringing a smile to his significant other's face.
Ryan didn't need any more convincing and started pulling Evan towards the forest. This surprised Evan as he assumed he would take him to the centre of their town, but then Ryan explained that they were going to walk a bit to reach a neighbouring town where no one knew them, and they wouldn't have to worry about anything.
Evan didn't expect it, but then he realized it was a good idea. Especially with the mood they set. If he was going to rub against Ryan on the dance floor, it would be nice if it was somewhere where no one could take a picture of him and send it to his parents.
Together they made it to the forest, where Ryan revealed a hidden backpack in which he planned to carry their clothes in his second form. It wasn't an uncommon practice, at least not for people in their pack, so Evan didn't see a problem with it. The hardest part for him was not to look as Ryan began to undress to shift.
Eventually, he was able to resist the temptation and also began to shed his clothes.
This was followed by a set of quick actions like moving their clothes into a backpack without ruining it and then Ryan putting it on his back as if he was in his human form, and then they together ran off towards the forest.
And although it wasn't the first time they'd run together like this, Evan was once again overwhelmed by his almost unmanageable feelings. In this form, Ryan's scent was even more intense, as was his sense of smell, allowing him to pick out every component of his beautiful mate.
He smelled like Santana wood, pine needles, honey, and home. Evan's favourite smell.
Even though it was dark outside, their werewolf eyes allowed them to see even more than the normal wolves that were predators of the night could. Evan could see so perfectly how the night breeze ruffled Ryan's fur and how the moonbeams reflected in his dark fur. He loved the sight of his wolf form as much as he loved the sight of his human form.
Ryan was no different, showing his affection by rubbing up against Evan every now and then.
He was in a playful mood, and the moment he lightly tugged on Evan's ear with his teeth, their night run turned into a race.
Evan already knew he wasn't going to regret letting himself get dragged out of the house, even though he had planned to spend today alone, even though it was his birthday. He was sure that thanks to Ryan, it was going to be a birthday to remember.
