Kokichi, Himiko, and Kaede were walking to the hospital. Kaede was holding a large wreath with a banner on which was written, "Get Well, Shuichi."
"Nyeh...why did Shuichi end up in the hospital?" Himiko asked. "I forgot."
"Nee-heehee...he threw out his back trying to kick a soccer ball!" Kokichi laughed. Kaede rolled her eyes.
"Ugh...he wasn't trying to kick the soccer ball, Kokichi!" she said before turning red with embarrassment. "He actually did kick it."
"Pffft....yeah, right!! The soccer ball is the one that kicked his ass!!" Kokichi exclaimed, wheezing with laughter.
"Kokichi, shut up!" Kaede scolded.
"Okay, okay...one more!" Kokichi wheezed, wiping the tears from his eyes. "I bet if that soccer ball told Shuichi a joke, he'd get a kick out of it!! BWA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!!"
"Nyeh...and how does he expect to be Kaito's sidekick if he can't even kick?!" Himiko added, making Kokichi laugh even harder.
"Hahahahahahaaa!! Good one, Monkey Buns!" he said, giving her a high five. Kaede sighed and rolled her eyes as they arrived at the hospital.
"Kokichi, Himiko, why are you two here if all you're going to do is laugh at Shuichi?" Kaede asked.
"Because it wouldn't be an exciting Kokichi and Himiko fanfiction if we just stayed home," Kokichi replied. Kaede gave him a look of bewilderment.
"What did you say?!" she exclaimed.
"Oh, I said we came for the hospital food," Kokichi said. "That stuff is really good!"
"No! That's not what you said!" Kaede huffed testily.
"Hm? I don't know what you're talking about," Kokichi said with a smile as he placed his hands behind his head.
"Whatever! Just forget about it," Kaede grumbled. "Shuichi's room is on the fifth floor, so let's take the elevator."
"O-kie-dokie!" Kokichi and Himiko replied. They followed Kaede into the elevator. Kaede was about to push the button for the fifth floor until a woman with a large tummy came rushing over.
"Excuse me!" she said. "I'm so sorry! I don't mean to hold you guys up! I just need to get to the fourth floor."
"Oh, it's no problem at all!" Kaede said kindly, holding the doors open for the woman.
"Thank you," the woman said with a smile. Kaede pushed the button for the fourth floor, and the doors closed.
"Nyeh...so, when's the baby due?" Himiko asked, looking down at the woman's tummy.
"Himiko! That's rude!" Kaede scolded. Then, she did a double take at the woman. "Oh! You are pregnant! I'm s-so sorry. I didn't realize!" The woman smiled kindly.
"It's quite alright," she assured. She turned back to Himiko. "The baby should be coming real soon!" she replied cheerfully.
"Cool! Is it a boy or a girl?" Kokichi asked.
"Oh, I don't know," the woman admitted. "My husband and I wanted to be surpr-" Suddenly, the woman was interrupted by a sudden, violent jolt followed by the elevator coming to a complete halt.
"W-What's going on?" Himiko asked, grabbing Kokichi's arm.
"I...I think we're stuck," Kaede said.
"But we can't be stuck!" the woman cried out in distress. "I have to get out of here!"
"Miss, please! Calm down! Everything's going to be fine," Kaede assured the woman.
"No! No, no, no, no, no, no!!" the woman gasped, grabbing her head in a panic. "I-I don't do well in small, enclosed s-spaces!"
"Nyeh...why didn't you take the stairs?" Himiko asked.
"She's nine months pregnant, Himiko," Kaede reminded her.
"WHOA, LADY!!! YOU'RE WETTING YOUR PANTS!!!" Kokichi exclaimed, pointing to a small puddle on the floor underneath the woman. The woman's eyes grew wide with horror.
"Oh, no," she whispered in terror. "My water broke!"
"W-What does that mean?" Kokichi asked.
"I-It means the baby's coming!" the woman said, trying to catch her breath.
"Ohh...please tell me it's coming in from the airport!" Kokichi said, beginning to freak out.
"It means she's going into labor, Koki-" Kaede began.
"I KNOW WHAT IT MEANS, WOMAN!!!" Kokichi cried, grabbing Kaede's face and shaking it. He let go of her face and began to sob. "WE'RE STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR DOOMED TO WITNESS THE MIRACLE OF LIFE!!!"
"I DON'T WANNA WITNESS THE MIRACLE OF LIIIFE!!!" Himiko sobbed. "I WANNA DIIIEEE!!!" Suddenly, the woman cried out as she doubled over in pain. She fell to her back, gasping in horror and shock.
"I DON'T WANNA SEE A WOMAN GIVE BIIIRRRRTH!!!" Kokichi yelled.
"I HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN THE LION KING, YET!!!" Himiko shrieked, tears streaming from her eyes. The woman cried out in pain, rubbing her pregnant belly. Between Kokichi and Himiko screaming and sobbing, and the helpless woman crying out in anguish and pain, Kaede began to grow frustrated.
"WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!" Kokichi and Himiko screamed. In a bout of rage, Kaede raised her hands to both of them. SMACK! SMACK! She smacked both of them upside their heads, causing them to shut up.
"You two will get a hold of yourselves, or so help me you will have more to worry about than being stuck in here! " she growled through gritted teeth. "Now, you guys are going to help me help this woman give birth, got it?" Kokichi and Himiko nodded their heads while rubbing them from Kaede's smack attack. "I'm gonna go see if she's okay." Kaede headed over to the woman, who was still crying out in pain as tears streamed from her eyes.
"Kokichi...she hit me really hard," Himiko whimpered. Kokichi wrapped his arms around Himiko's head and softly patted it.
"Is that better?" he asked softly. Himiko nodded. Kokichi bent down to pick up Himiko's hat, which had flown off her head after Kaede had smacked her, and gently placed it back onto her head.
"How far apart are the contractions, miss?" Kaede asked.
"T-Two...m-minutes!!" the woman gasped, barely getting her words out. "AAA-HAAAAH!!!"
"Okay, okay...listen, I'm gonna help you, okay?" Kaede said. The woman frantically nodded. Kaede turned to Kokichi. "Kokichi, give me your scarf!" Kokichi clutched his scarf and backed away.
"What?! No!! What do you need Scarfy for?!" he asked.
"I don't have time to argue with you right now, Kokichi! Do as I say!" Kaede ordered. Kokichi reluctantly reached for his scarf and took it off before handing it to Kaede. She snatched it from his hands and placed it on the floor between the woman's legs.
"HEY!! WHY IS IT THERE?!?! " Kokichi demanded.
"The baby needs to be wrapped in something when it comes out," Kaede replied, crouching down in front of the woman.
"B-But...Scarfy's gonna be covered in...in...womb slime!!" Kokichi exclaimed in horror.
"TOO BAD!!!" Kaede yelled. "Now, I want you two to hold her hands!"
"Ohh, I hate today!" Kokichi whined. "I knew we shoulda stayed hooome!"
"Me, toooo!" Himiko whined, as well, as she and Kokichi crouched down next to the woman to hold her hands.
"Okay, miss, get ready to push, okay?" Kaede said in a calm manner.
"Nyeh...Kaede, have you delivered a baby before?" Himiko asked timidly.
"Yes," Kaede replied, shooting a quick look up at Himiko before concentrating back on the woman. Himiko turned to Kokichi.
"Did she lie just now?" she whispered. Kokichi nodded horrifically. "Oh, my," Himiko breathed. "We really are doomed!"
"I hope that thing doesn't come shooting out like a torpedo," Kokichi whispered with wide, horrified eyes. "Then it would ricochet off the walls and we'd all be covered in baby slime."
"AAAAAAAAAAA!!!" the woman shrieked in pain.
"It's okay," Kaede assured the woman. "Breathe deep. Did you take a Lamaze class?" The woman nodded and began to breathe deeply. "That's it. There you go. Relax," Kaede said in a soothing voice.
"AA-HAAAAAAA!!!" the woman cried out again in pain.
"SHE SAID RELAX, DAMMIT!!" Kokichi yelled at the woman. Kaede looked at him with a murderous look in her eyes, causing him to fall silent. She turned back to the woman.
"How are you feeling?" she asked. "Whenever you need to push, go ahead, okay?" The woman nodded and began to push.
"AAAAAAAAAAA!!!" she cried out in pain.
"It's okay," Kaede encouraged. "You're doing okay! You're doing great! Keep pushing, miss!"
"I-Is it coming?" Kokichi asked, squinting his eyes in disgust.
"Yes! It's coming!" Kaede said. "I see the head!"
"YOU SEE THE DUMB THING'S HEAD?!?! Ohhhh...." Kokichi moaned as he fainted. The last thing he heard was Himiko calling his name before completely blacking out. The next thing Kokichi knew, he was being shaken awake by Himiko.
"Kokichi...Kokichi..." she said. Kokichi slowly opened his eyes a crack. Then, they shot wide open.
"Whoa! Hey! What?! Where are we?!" he asked. He looked up at both Himiko and Kaede. The woman was nowhere to be seen, but they were still on the elevator. "What happened? Where's the lady?"
"She's in a hospital room," Kaede said. "She's going to be okay."
"Hee-hee...you fainted like a dork," Himiko teased Kokichi, poking his cheek. Kokichi blushed with embarrassment.
"I-I didn't faint!" he pouted. "I fell asleep cuz it got boring!"
"Uh-huh...sure," Kaede said before she and Himiko burst into a fit of giggles.
"Whatever! Let's just deliver the stupid plant ring thing to Shuichi already and leave this place!" Kokichi huffed. As they walked to Shuichi's room, Kokichi leaned over to whisper to Himiko.
"So, what happened after I fain...I mean, fell asleep?" he asked.
"Well, right after the woman gave birth...it was a boy, by the way...the elevator started working again," Himiko explained. "Then, the elevator repairman and the doctors helped her to a proper room. They also thanked us for helping her. And that's when we woke you up."
"Oh," Kokichi replied. "Hey, Himiko?"
"Nyeh?"
"I don't think I want kids," Kokichi said.
"Yeah, neither do I," Himiko agreed. "It sounds like too much of a pain...literally." Kokichi gave Himiko a grateful hug. Kaede knocked on Shuichi's door.
"Come in," they heard Shuichi call out. Kaede opened the door to see Shuichi in bed with a smile. "Hey, guys!"
"Hey, Shuichi," Kaede said, giving Shuichi a kiss on the cheek. "How's your back?"
"It's okay," Shuichi replied. "How was the walk here?"
"Good, unfortunately!" Kokichi huffed in annoyance. Shuichi shot him a quizzical look.
"He's saying that if we never came here, we wouldn't have helped that woman give birth in the elevator," Kaede explained.
"You guys helped a woman give birth?!" Shuichi exclaimed.
"Yeah, and Kaede basically used Scarfy to make a baby and womb slime burrito!" Kokichi pouted, pointing to his bare neck.
"Kokichi, you have other scarves just like that one!" Kaede countered testily.
"Yeah, but Scarfy was special!" Kokichi groaned. "Now he's forever covered in amniotic fluid and blood!"
"But aren't you glad that you got to experience the miracle of birth?" Shuichi asked.
"Hmhmhm...well, actually, only Himiko and I did," Kaede giggled. "Kokichi fain-"
"FELL ASLEEP!!!" Kokichi interrupted, glaring at Kaede. "I fell asleep because it was boring!"
"Ohhh...I gotcha," Shuichi nodded, smirking at Kokichi. Kokichi glared at him, as well.
"Whatever! Let's just go, already!" he huffed. Kaede kissed Shuichi goodbye before they left. As they walked down the hall, one of the doctors stopped them.
"Excuse me!" he said. Kokichi, Himiko, and Kaede turned around. "Are you the three who helped Mrs. Chiba give birth in the elevator?"
"Yeah!" Kaede said.
"That's us!" Himiko added.
"Don't remind me," Kokichi grumbled.
"Mrs. Chiba would like to see you! Come with me!" The doctor led the three to the room in which Mrs. Chiba was staying. She was more than delighted to see them.
"Hiiii!" she whispered. She held up her newborn son, cradled in her arms. "Would you like to see my son?" Kaede and Himiko eagerly went up to Mrs. Chiba.
"He's beautiful!" Kaede whispered.
"What's his name?" Himiko asked, gently stroking the baby's cheek.
"I haven't decided, yet, but..." she looked over to Kokichi. "Excuse me?" she called out to him. Kokichi looked up at her and reluctantly walked over.
"Yes, ma'am?" he mumbled.
"I'm really sorry about your scarf," the woman replied apologetically. "If you still want it, it's on the table over there." With her head, she gestured over to a table with Kokichi's scarf all wrinkled-up and discolored. It had light pinkish and light yellowish stains on it. Kokichi felt his stomach toss and turn.
"No, thanks," he grumbled.
"To make it up to you, I wanted to name my son after you...for being so kind in lending me your scarf," Mrs. Chiba continued. "Is that okay with you?"
"Well, I guess," Kokichi shrugged. Mrs. Chiba gave him a cheerful smile.
"What's your name?" she asked.
"Kaito," Kokichi lied. Kaede and Himiko fought every urge to look at him in utter shock.
"Kaito," Mrs. Chiba repeated with a happy smile. "That's a beautiful name."
"Thanks," Kokichi replied.
"Well, thank you all three for helping me bring little Kaito into the world," Mrs. Chiba said. "I won't forget you."
"You're welcome," Kaede replied with a polite bow. With a final wave, the three left Mrs. Chiba alone with her baby. "Kokichi! Why did you tell her your name was Kaito?!"
"Cuz what if that kid grows up to be a delinquent?" Kokichi asked. "I wouldn't want him named after me! Besides, there's room for only one delinquent in this town named Kokichi."
"Nyeh...what if he grows up to be a success, though?" Himiko asked.
"Welp, at least he'd be a way better person than the actual Kaito!" Kokichi replied, feeling his cheeky self returning. "Nee-heehee...it's a win-win situation for me! I feel better already!" Kaede shook her head.
"I really can't believe you sometimes, Kokichi," she muttered.
