Scarlett's POV
****3 months later***It's Now middle May***
I walk in through the front door to see y/n swaying to herself in the kitchen, cooking something and sipping on a glass of wine. I don't think I'll ever get used to not being the solo partner/solo parent. She always tries to make my life easier. If I cook, she cleans. If I'm tired she will get Rose to go outside or play with her just so I can rest. She also gave me that great idea about under eye care which has sold out across the USA for The Outset. I just don't know what I would do without her.
"Hey baby" she says cheery she hands me the glass of wine she was drinking "this is actually yours" she says laughing
"Thank you. Smells great, is that Cajun chicken pasta?" I as
"Yep your favorite." She says turning back around finishing up the dish
"So what did you do?" I ask
"Huh?"
"You only make this when you do something your nervous about telling me about" I say laughing a little
"That's not true" she defends
"Yes. Last time you made this was because you lied about helping Rose and her talent show, then again when you broke that ugly statue you thought I liked." I say laughing at the last part.
"Okay so your right. But I can't tell you" she says
"Why not!" I push
"I just don't want you to freak out." She says and I have to remind myself to stay calm.
"You can tell me anything and I'll support you. You know that." I say to make sure she knows I'm here for her
She looks up at me and I can see how nervous she is. Her eyes are bouncing around not maintaining eye contact, and her right hand is slightly shaking.
"You're making me nervous." I say chuckling a little to hide my own nervousness.
"I quit." She says and stares at me.
"You quit going to the gym? Finally more time for me"I question silly
"No you dork, I quit working for Anna." She says
"Okay. Can you tell me why?" I ask
"I'm sick of it Scar. I'm sick of defending awful people and feeling like I'm helping these assholes get away with thing. Today do you know what I did. I fought my ass off for a guy who swore he was framed. There was no evidence supporting that her murdered his wife and I fought for him, vouched for him and we won. Great right? Except the fact that right after the charges were dropped and filed with prejudice (meaning you cannot retrial or get charged with same charges) he turned to me and said "just you know, I did kill her. She didn't even make a sound when I slit her throat" and he walked out. I can't even tell the cops because no matter what they can't retry him. This system is a joke!" She yells throwing her hand sip in the air at the end.
Wow.
"There's gotta be pros to the cons though?" I ask trying to get her to see both sides.
"Nope. I'm the big shot so I get the big cases. And those are our big cases. And I cannot sit there and defend anyone anymore. Regardless if they are the attacker or abuser." She says with raw emotion. I can feel her pain
"Can you take a break?" I ask and she nods
"I suppose yes. But will I ever want to go back?" She says and I get it. It feels like there's no good purpose.
"It'll be okay. We can talk about other options maybe you could be a legal advisor." I suggest just throwing it out there.
"Maybe" she says plating the food and walking to the table to eat. I sit down next to her and place my hand on her thigh. I just watch her eat. Thinking about how I can help her.
"You don't have to stare at me like I'm going to break into a million pieces. I can probably beg Anna for my job back tomorrow. I just need to really think this through" she says
"Take a day or two and see how you feel. I know you love what you do maybe you just need to find a different way to do it. Or if you want to stay, I'm sure Anna could always lessen your load too. You overwork yourself like crazy and you know it." I say and she nods agreeing. She knows it too.
"I know you're right. I'm just so aggravated." She says putting her head down. I hate seeing her like this.
"It's okay to be upset my love. It just means you care. Cmon let's go upstairs and take a bath and I'll give you a calming massage" I say walking our plates to the sink and waiting for her by the stairs.
"I think I'm going to stay down here for a bit. Clear out my office so I can bring the files back that Anna needs" she says just walking towards her office leaving me at the bottom of the stairs waiting for her.
She never came to bed that night. I found her asleep on the couch in her office clutching a file. I tried to wake her before leaving for work but she didn't budge. I left her a note in the kitchen and started my way to The Outset HQ.
"Gooodmorninggg" Kate sang as I walked into the office.
"Hi Kate" I say with a smile "who's coming in today?" I ask knowing we have a rotation of social media influencers coming in each week to make content.
"We have James Welsh and Lilly y/ln." she says reading off a paper.
"Wait did you say Lilly y/ln?" I ask again making sure I heard that right.
"Yeah, she's gaining popularity on social media from modeling but she started a series called skin with Lil and it's very popular. She reviews brands and gives honest reviews." She explains
"No we can't have her" I say not bothering to explain
"What why!" Kate gets a little snappy.
"That's y/ns sister. I can't have her here kate." I explain
"Scar this would be really good for us. Can you just call and talk to y/n. Maybe she will understand?" She ask.
Ugh I didn't want to put any more stress on her but I guess I'll call her.
"Fine. But your buying us dinner tonight" I say picking up my phone to call y/n.
After the third ring she answers. "Yeah babe" I hear her say out of breath.
"You ok?" I ask concerned.
"Yes just running. Sorry. What's up?" She asks.
"Somehow our team booked your sister to be in our office and on our social media without letting me know first. It's rude to cancel the day of and I was just wondering what you thought." I say a little nervous.
"Uhh it's your brand babe. If you think she will help you guys don't not use her just cause she's my sister. Just don't be alone with her please. I don't know what she will try and makeup to tell you." She says
"Okay I can manage that. I'll keep you updated on her if she tells me anything. Have you spoken to her since that night?" I ask remembering the paparazzi stories from that night and the week after of her sister saying awful things about y/n. She even had to file an order for her to stop talking about her.
"No. Her lawyer contacted me and asked to drop the seize and desist but I told him only if she can go 3 months without talking about me. Which she has so I guess I'll drop it. But I'll wait until after her stuff comes out for your company." She says and I understand why
I see Kate walk into my office and she point behind her meaning people are here. "Thanks babe. Okay I gotta run. I'll call you at lunch. Love you. Oh don't forget Lizzie is flying in today." I tell her. She says okay and her byes and hangs up.
"Is she here?" I ask Kate who just nods her head.
I walk out of my office and see a man and a smaller woman standing by the doorway. I immediately recognize them both as Lilly and Thomas.
"Hi guys! welcome to the Outset!" I say in my chippy actress voice.
"Wow hi, we are big fans." Thomas says shaking my hand. Then I shake Lilly's hand and she just gives me a small smile.
"Aw thanks. Now let's get started?" I say and monitor them to the conference room. I get flashbacks when I step in Here of me thrown on top of the table and y/n fucking me so when a little laugh escapes my mouth, Kate gives me a look and I just have to shake my head.
"So we love your series on YouTube, Skin with Lil, and thought maybe you could take some products and review them on there?" Kate says to Lilly giving her bags full of our top 3 products.
"Oh sure it would be an honor" Lilly says to Kate and I actually smile at her. She seems genuine.
"We could even maybe try the clay mask here? Make a TikTok or two and we pay a small commission to you just because we'd tag you." Kate also explains.
"How about I do it for free?" She says and I raise my eyebrows.
"That's not necessary. We don't mind paying you." I say
"Please, it's an honor to even be here. And I'd love to prove to you I'm nothing of what my sister must tell you." She say looking straight at me.
"I know what you are like, I was there at the gala when you came at her. Also heard all about showing up to OUR house. So please. Let's just get this over with and you can leave." I say a little snippy but I don't care.
I see Thomas stand up from the couch in the other room, sensing we are arguing. I glare at him through the glass wall and so does Lilly so he sits back down. "I apologize. Truly. Can you show me the mask and we can do whatever videos you'd like. Thank you again for choosing me to be here." Lilly says backing down.
I walk out to get the mask and on the way back I think about how quickly she just shut down. The old Lilly would fight me back, be a bit of an arguer, atleast that's what she did 7 months ago at the Gala. What changed? I walk back in and put the clay mask down. She opens it and feels it with her fingers and smiles. She puts a layer on her face, using her phone to apply it perfectly.
Kate sets up our TikTok account and they both do two skits while I watch. "Scar can you just pop in the back of this giving funny looks?" Kate asks which I agree too.
An hour later Lilly is washing her face in the bathroom and Kate walks up to me. "Thanks for this Scar I know it must have been hard." And she walks into the office to answer some emails. Lilly walks back out of the bathroom and walks up to me.
"Thank you for this opportunity Ms. Johansson. I apologize how I acted before. I do hope we could get along one day, maybe you could get my sister to answer my calls. Have a great day." She says and walks to the front of the office gathering Thomas and they both leave.
I thought y/n said she hasn't tried to contact her?
