Just to give him a try, I drive Kyle back to my apartment while Jake’s at football practice. He was supposed to be teaching me how to read. I knew how at one time, but who had time when you were always chasing a two year old around when she have been getting a decent education? We pull into the parking lot of the apartments, and head in out of the rain, holding our jackets above our heads as shield.

Once we were finally inside, Kyle goes to set his belongings on my kitchen table so that he can get settled. First off, he is definitely not walking through my house with those shoes on. “Hey!” He freezes in his place. “Before you go doing anything, take those shoes off. I cant have you walking on my hardwood floors with mud all over the bottom of the soles of your shoes!” I was even pointing my finger, resembling my mother when she used to scold Caleb and I when we did something wrong.

“Sorry, mother hen.” Kyle smirks and kicks off his shoes, leaving them by the door.

“Caleb, crap! Be right back, I have to go pick up my brother!” Grabbing a quick jacket and an umbrella, I open the door and go rushing out, knocking into someone who grabs my arm before I can topple over to the floor. “Jake?” I ask.

“Yes,” He looked furious. “Caleb, why don’t you go play the Wii while I talk to your sister?” He shoves Caleb gently in the direction of his room and pulls me out into the hallway. “What is your problem? Don’t you know when to pick up your brother?” He was really angry, I’d never seen him so mad at me before.

“Look, I forgot okay? He hasn’t been going to school lately!” I say, using my hands as gestures instead of swearing. Now it was my turn to get riled up. “And it’s not like your any better. According to your little “friends” I was only part of a bet.” Oh no, me and my big mouth. How could I do that to Kyle and Jack? Even if they did hate me it wasn’t my place and it wasn’t the right thing to do.

Jake smashed his hand against the wall. “Look, Allie.” He grabs my hands, tilts my chin up to look at him, and kisses my forehead. “The day of the bet, I walked into that club not knowing what to think or anything, and I was terrified. They dared me to get my virginity to get taken away by someone in your joint, so I did. And I wouldn’t change anything in my life for the world, especially you and Caleb. You guys are my life and it’s never going to be any other way again.” Wow.

“Nice try, but you are so not getting make-up sex.” I joke.

“Now come on, let’s go inside. I want to help Caleb with math and stuff.” He puts his arm around my waist.

Oh crap, Kyle’s in there. “No way your going in there mister.” I put myself in front of the door, blocking him from entering. “Kyle’s in there and I know you wanna kill him, but there’s reason behind it-” Before I could finish my explanation as to why Kyle was here, Jake moved me out of the way, opened the door, threw me on the couch, and was glaring at Kyle.

“You promised to lay off of her!” Jake shoved Kyle out of his chair. It fell over with him, and the chair completely busted. Uh oh. “I told you before, she’s mine, man!” Now Jake was throwing punches his way. I get up off of the couch and it’s hard to manage with my still broken arm from when my dad threw me down in the parking lot. I was able to remove it on Sunday with the doctor’s help.

“Stop it, you idiot!” Jake stopped immediately, knowing that I wouldn’t call him an idiot over no reason. “Don’t you see? Kyle’s here to help me study for school and teach me how to read!” I explain hurriedly, worried that Jake would go after Kyle again.

“Why didn’t you ask me to help you?” He asked, hurt obvious in his voice. Kyle got up off the floor, out of breath and angry looking, fixing his shirt collar.

I sigh. “Because, Jake. I didn’t want you to think I was anymore stupid than when you found me! I’m dumb and I you don’t deserve someone like me. I’m a prostitute for god’s sake!” I stomp my foot, throw down the algebra book I’d been holding and run off in the direction of the bathroom, locking the door.

Instantly, I hear my name being called by both Jake and Kyle, pleading for me to come out. “Come on, babe. Your not stupid, and yes, I do deserve someone like you. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me!” Jake called through the bathroom door, his voice pleading.

Sniffling, I open the door and wipe my eyes and blow my nose.

Jake and Kyle barge in immediately. “Look, I’m sorry I told her, man.” They hug each other manly and then back up, leaving me speechless. They’d made up with each other that fast? Wow, they really did care.

“I was all part of a bet though.” I say, sniffling one last time.

“The best bet of my life!” Jake hugs me and kisses me, squeezing my butt from behind.

After I persuaded Jake to go play Mario Kart with Caleb, I settled down on the couch with Kyle, setting all of our school supplies on the coffee table in front of us. “I’m sorry…” I say, looking in the other direction. I was really embarrassed for squealing so quickly on them like that.

“It’s fine, let’s just study.” He snapped, beginning to open up my Biology book to the correct page we’d been studying in class lately. “Read me this paragraph.” I could see the first word, but couldn’t comprehend what it said due to my ignorance in reading. I was okay at writing, but these big words just didn’t appeal to me.

After an hour I could read the whole page. It really was a big accomplishment for me. “You go join Caleb and Jake in his room and I’m going to make us all some dinner.” I smile at Kyle who has surprisingly forgiven me for my sudden outburst on the biggest and only secret he’d ever told me before.

Finally, Kyle gave in and went to go play the child game with the two. Heading into the kitchen, I’d try my best to cook, I mean, I’ve never done it before. That’s where the internet would help me out. Getting on Google, I typed in Spaghetti Recipes. It gave me over a million results, and I clicked on the very first one. It told me I’d need a strainer, a pot, spaghetti tongs, obviously spaghetti noodles, and a jar of sauce. “I have run to the store boys!” I called to their room.

“Okay,” They called simultaneously.

Starting my car, I make sure I have money in my pocket, which I don’t. I’m completely out. Sitting back as far as my seat would allow me to, I contemplate what to do. How could I betray myself and Jake? I promised him I wouldn’t prostitute anywhere anymore. How could I? Thinking about it, I do it anyways. Starting the car, I go to the joint and step inside.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in this place. Studying everyone and everything, no one notices me, which is good. I needed to get in and get out. Some boys woof whistled. I quickly changed into the spare outfit I kept in the back of the trunk. Grabbing some random guy, I get it in, get it out and get the heck out of the place.

Re-starting my car, I hold the sixty five dollars I made in my hands, wanting to just crumple up and cry for betraying Jake who is apparently my boyfriend now. What a jerk I am! Banging my head on the car’s steering wheel, I do it repeatedly. Ugh, I am an idiot. Driving on to the store, I park the car and head into the entrance, going up and down every aisle searching for spaghetti sauce. Finding the right one, I pay for it and leave.

On my drive home, of course rain began to pour down, just my luck. Turning on the radio to distract myself from thinking, I just drive and drive. Suddenly, when I am changing the station, I hear car tires squeal. Controlling the steering wheel, I swerve, but so does the car. Oh no, head on collision? These things weren’t supposed to be fun!

As soon as I crash slightly into the car, my seatbelt chokes my neck and my heart skips a few beats. Other than that, my windshield has cracked and some of the glass is in my head and body, I can feel it. Stupid me, who drives when their wearing a cast? I should’ve known better, but those boys should’ve stopped me! Someone got out of the car and I can notice the figure’s a girl. She opens my car door. “Gee, you alright?” Uh oh, it’s Gina. “I’ll call Jakey for you,” She smirks with fake sympathy. I cannot move. The passenger door is basically crushed on me.

She lays the phone next to my mouth. “Jakey boo, your little girlfriend, Allie is it? She got in a little accident and she’s gonna be beat up for a while. Better come find her if you expect her to live.” She taunts.

Oh god, her voice sends shivers up and down my spine. She pulls out something from her coat pocket, the pouring rain is causing mine and her hair to stick to our face. I don’t care, I just need to find some way to get out of here. Is that a freaking hammer? Is she serious? This chick is psycho!

Gina takes the hammer and brings it above her head. Oh god, I shut my eyes, ready for the pain. It comes and I’m pretty sure I let out an ear shattering scream. “JAKE!” I scream, biting my tongue to reduce the pain. It was so much to bare. She brings it up again, but something grabs her hand and pulls the hammer out of it.

“Are you crazy?” Jake. Thank god. He shouts over the relentless rain. Thanks Seattle, I really needed this!

The pain in my body was indescribably horrid. Every bone in my body ached, and I was pretty sure from the blow from the hammer some of my ribs might be broke. It was getting harder to breathe and things were spinning around right before my eyes. “Baby, Allie?” I feel something stroking my hair through the open window. It’s Jake’s hand. “I’ve got help on the way, okay?” He keeps stroking my hair, and I hear sirens in the distance.

I’m saved.
