Back in 1962...
It was senior year, you were 18 and you were gonna start your life.
You had so much opportunity ahead, you wanted to just enjoy the time you had with Julie and Rosemary before you all went separate ways.
It almost wanted to make you cry, all these years doing things together and sticking together.
Even in junior high you and Rosemary were together at the hip, and Julie entered your guys duo making it a trio! That was just fine for you and Rosemary! Julie shared your gossip moments and sleepovers and it made both you and Rosemary happy.
But this last month of school was special, extra special.
You and Julie were sitting at the lunch table where you both usually sat, but this time enjoying the slight silence between you all.
You ate your lunch which was a sandwich and Rosemary enjoying her grapes and banana smoothie, with Julie eating strawberries and her chocolate milk.
You spoke up, "Do you guys ever notice anyone else in the hallways besides our class? It's kinda weird if you think about it. It's like the lower grade classmates don't exist sometimes!" You explained the random thought in your head, turning to Julie and her thinking about what you said "yeah, now that you do indeed mention it. I think the same too! Wowie!" Julie giggled.
You turned to Rosemary for her input and she was just smiling at Julie and just looked to face you with her eyes still looking at Julie's. "Well uhm, yeah! I mean I see them sometimes..only when I actually mean too. But you know sometimes I'm in my own world."
Rosemary told us. But yeah it was like that, we both all continued our conversation and the bell soon rang, Julie getting up and throwing her food away and waving bye. "Byeeee girls! I'm heading off to algebra 2!" She said putting on a fake sad face with her arms dropping to her sides and giggling walking away.
You and Rosemary both watched her walk away for some time then you both getting up and throwing your trash away. You and Rosemary had P.E together and you both felt groggy about it. You just wanted to scream! But Rosemary just sighed "P.E again, you know we are both almost failing this semester right? We better get it up, this last month. No more P.E afterwards!"
You just gave your monotone voice and sighed, "yeah, we better start making up those laps. Seniors and still hanging on, golly gee." You said rolling your eyes. You still needed this credit for school so you and Rosemary got into P.E and started running and sweating. Making you and Rosemary feel bleh! But both making jokes making you both laugh and causing you both to get tired too fast.
"Have you ever noticed that guy Wallace?" Rosemary said randomly,
'who was that?' You thought.
"Who? I don't Even know who that is." You questioned Rosemary wiping the sweat off your forehead. You both stopping and looking at a junior named Wallace..his last name? You both never knew.
But he was handsome, you think you noticed him joining in on Drama Club sometimes. It made you kinda interested but trying to get into romance wasn't really wanted, especially since you already had a thing going on with Liam, the most popular guy in the senior class.
This guy Wallace had blue hair that was dropped over his face a bit and the way he dressed was more darker, phases I'm guessing? You thought.
Rosemary jokingly pushed you in his direction making you panic slightly "what are you doing you wilted rose!" You yelped at Rosemary trying to not make much noise. You gave her the nickname wilted rose because sometimes she did things like this that teased you and you gave her a nickname for it.
Rosemary snickered and gave you a raised eyebrow, her glasses shining at you perfectly which made you roll your eyes at her antics.
"Why him, Rosemary?" You asked her, she just shrugged and told you "I'm not sure he just seems lonely! You and him talked a bit in drama club! Don't you remember?"
You tried to use all your brain power and give a reasonable response but nope! You didn't remember him at all, so much so! That you thought Rosemary might be making this up!
Rosemary POV:
Why doesn't she remember him? They had a full convo and she told me he was kinda handsome!
She's so forgetful with people she doesn't talk to everyday! What would she do without me!? I am not always gonna be there to take care of her schedule and remind her of stuff!!
I just sighed and told her how he had a small part in the play they did when she played Juliet in the school play.
He was Benvolio! Romeo's Cousin.
(Y/n) gave me a look and just looked at that Wallace guy and just thought, "I'm not sure, I don't wanna try and start something with someone I'll probably never see again! I'm a senior and he's a junior!" She responded to me.
It made me shake my head, then we went back to jogging and running laps to make up for the days we have countlessly sat out doing nothing.
I liked sitting out and I feel maybe I rubbed off on (Y/N) this year, but maybe (Y/N) was right! She already had something going on with Liam. I didn't really like him but they were happy so I didn't say anything. It's not my place.
But class was over and me and (y/n) walked out after we got dressed in the locker rooms and met up with Julie for the last class of the day we had together which was English and we all read together and talked.
"Do you know a Wallace, Julie?" I asked her, her eyes looking up to me and it made me smile! Almost making me avert my eyes away.
"Well...maybe! Wasn't he in the drama club this year?" Julie replied, making (y/n) look up and stop reading and her eyes wide making me laugh "see I wasn't lying! We know about that Wallace kid!" I just giggled and (Y/N) shook her head "well it's too late now, me and Liam are thinking about applying to colleges close to each other!" (y/n) told us happily.
But me and Julie sneaked glances at each other and just gave each other a 'yikes!' look.
"There's somewhere close to that fine arts school you are going too?" I asked (y/n) and she rambled on about her plans with Liam her eyes filled with love.
But me and Julie listened along and sometimes Julie held my hand squeezing it and smiling at me looking at me from time to time but I couldn't take it and I just felt so embarrassed and flustered.
Sometimes I pulled my hand away and noticed Julie looked confused and just went back to chatting with (Y/N).
Still Rosemary's POV: (present day..aka 1969 7 years later.)
"That fucker Liam!!" (y/n) yelled out mad at Liam and from the info I just gave her.
My stomach twisted and did jumps making me feel like I made the wrong choice, but after what Julie and (Y/N) were chatting about in the car. Wally seemed to take interest in (Y/N).
I didn't want that to hold my best friend back, she thinks I don't see it but I live there too! I see the way she's sad and how she looks at herself in the mirror. I want my old best friend back, her happy days here and the way it was in high school.
Now that Julie is back too maybe I can become close to her again, maybe she likes me back too.
Maybe us going bowling will help bring the vibes back, but I slightly smiled for a moment remembering what I said about me not always being her looking after her for being so forgetful.
I'm here, we are here. She has a chance to change it with that Wally guy..wait a minute he did look familiar!? Not just from the Tv shows... what is it! Now I'm kinda needing to jog my memory.
But I snapped out of my thoughts at (Y/N) getting up and quickly packing our stuff.
"It's time to go pick up (C/N), we gotta go get them and go back home."
She said angrily probably still thinking about what I just told her.
So I got up and helped get things and put them in the car, it was best we left because soon people will start flooding the place and I don't want any of them to be here while (Y/N) is crazily upset right now.
We then drove to the school in silence, probably for the best. I didn't wanna distract her from being in the zone in driving, I just looked out the window seeing the trees pass by and the rain starting up, 'how convenient, wow.' I just thought to myself.
But we slowly drove up and waited in silence once again. But I glanced over at (y/n) and saw her wiping her eyes and looking at herself in the mirror and fixing her face and making sure it's dry and taking deep breathes.
Soon we heard the school bell ring and it made (y/n) look at the enterance of the school with her getting out and suddenly seeing her acting skills go to use, never thought it would be in a place like this. Being an actor paid off sometimes.
Your point of view again.
My child walked out of the school enterance and started hugging me so I held my child and scooped her up in my arms like I usually did not breaking or slipping up my act once. I pretended this was the moment of my life, as a show.
I needed to be strong in front of my precious baby.
I looked at them and they rambled on about their day as I picked them up and carried them to my car and put them in the back seat and buckled them up.
I got in the drivers seat and heard Rosemary say hi, and talk to her. Probably knowing I have a lot on my mind, I swear when I get home Liam is in big trouble.
He didn't even wanna take care of our baby no more, she's in kindergarten! Way earlier than I was expecting.
It made my heart hurt, break even. I fought the tears back and just drove, getting to our home and opening the door for my child and me unbuckling them and carrying them inside and setting them down and me asking Rosemary to get them a snack and as I went to my room, I made sure not to slam the door but I quickly went over to my bed and flopped on the bed.
Instantly grabbing a pillow and screaming into it, muffling my cries and pain.
I wasn't in love with him but he was still something to me all those years, of work, plan, and raising a kid so far.
But you heard Liam talk to Rosemary out the door, and heard him walk downstairs and chat with (c/n).
Meanwhile you heard your door slightly open. It being Rosemary, she looked at you with a sad face, seeing her start to tear up too.
She ran over to me and as I sat up on the bed she gave me a embrace.
I just held onto her too and put my face into her shoulder and cried.
Trying not to cry too loud as she ran her fingers through my hair, just telling me "it's going to be okay" , "we will figure this out", and "you are better than this and you are strong, you can do anything (y/n) you made it this far."
After 30 minutes, I stopped crying and my breath got steadier.
I pulled away and Rosemary was crying too, she shared my pain.
We were always best friends and we stay together no matter what. What one another went through we went through together.
Rosemary just weakly smiled at me "Wanna call up Julie and ruin this bitch ass guys life?"
"You fucking know it." You said your voice quiet but laughing through your broken voice the atmosphere getting cheerier..
