Maya's POV
I throw my phone to the floor
what is wrong with me, why would he suddenly change his mind,
was I too upfront?
"Maya honey" my mom calls me from down the corridor,
ugh,
she can't see me like this, I roll over and look in the mirror next to my bed,
my mascara has run, and all my makeup has washed off, my eyes are dopey and willing to shut.
"Maya!" she calls again,
I groan and rub at my face, "coming" I yell,
what could she possible want?
I rub my eyes and wander blindly down the hall, my head is heavy, and all I can think about is going back to bed, I don't know how I can show my face at school on Monday.
"Mom?" I mumble, I open the door to the living room and am struck by bright lights, I definitely much prefer the darkness of my room.
But it's not just my mom there are two people standing in the living room, at the door. I squint my eyes, rubbing them again, my mom beams at me and walks out.
"Hi clutterbucket" somebody says softly which I make out to be the voice of Lucas, I groan no way, I am not in the mood for him.
"hey Maya" another voice says, finally my eyes have focussed, and standing before me are Josh and Lucas.
I smile weakly, "uh hi" I mumble.
Then it hits me,
two guys are in my house staring right at me,
and I look like a wreck,
no makeup with my mascara run.
"oh shit" I mutter,
"what?" Lucas says,
I turn around slowly and drop onto the coach,
"make yourself at home" I mumble, I give up they've already seen me,
atleast now that they've seen how ugly I am they will leave, I won't have to try.
Josh comes over and sits down next to me,
usually I would be smiling like crazy, but I completely give up what's the use,
"hi" he says softly,
"hi" I say still not looking at him,
"how's it going?" he says he's voice still soft,
"not very good" I reply,
I continue to look down, "what about you?" I exhale heavily,
"Maya?"
"yes?"
"why won't you look at me?"
I shrug,
"Maya please" he says,
I still can't believe he's trying, nobody want's to end up with a loser like me,
"I am not worthy" I sigh,
"not worthy of what?" he says raising his tone,
"worthy of anybody"
"what?"
"nobody deserves to have me as a burden, I'm just a burden Josh, you may as well leave " I sigh again,
tears well up in my eyes, what even is my point being in this world,
Josh hasn't said anything,
"I know your just here for sympathy, my mom probably told you to come here or something" I say my voice stern
I wipe my eyes,
"I can't -" I breathe heavily, " nobody even cares for me I mean - " tears spill out of my eyes,
"Maya" Josh says softly,
"you can't say nobody cares about you when you have a whole bunch of friends and family who love you unconditionally" he continues,
I shrug looking down,
Josh lifts my chin lightly and turns my face to face him,
"wow" he gasps,
I avoid eye contact, " I know I look awful you don't have to do this" I mutter,
"no" he says, "you look" his eyes sparkle, "beautiful" and he smiles, which makes me blush,
"your perfect" he says dazed,
"Josh why are you here" I say looking into his eyes, and I know once I look into them there's no turning back,
his hand still under my chin, "Maya, you do understand why I was so upset right?",
I nod solemnly, " I would never do that to you again",
Josh removes his hand from under my chin,
he stares at me and I stare at him, his chocolate brown eyes are to die for, I can't believe I thought I would settle for anything less,
he raises an eyebrow,
"oh really?" he smirks,
"yes" I swear,
"prove it" his eyes shine,
I clasp his head in my hands,
and kiss him,
but this kiss wasn't forced,
it was real.
